- In the recent years activities in order to improve quality of superficial waters, where wastewater from sewage treatment plants reach were intensified. Outflow of untreated wastewater to open superficial waters would make up a great threat for that environment. Physico-chemical investigations of wastewater are executed mostly in order to control of the work of wastewater treatment plant and analyze proprieties of inflowing and outflowing wastewater from sewage treatment plant. Single taking of wastewater samples e.g.: in the inflow and outflow of wastewater treatment plant is not sufficient to correctly estimate its work, that is why it is necessary to take samples of wastewater after each stage of wastewater treatment [6]. Investigations presented in this paper were undertaken in order acquaint in circulation of organic compounds in wastewater, including total organic carbon and various forms of nitrogen in wastewater treatment plant of Bioblok type. It is more important, that TOC is considered nowadays the best measure of the quantity of organic compounds present in wastewater. Research was carried out on wastewater treatment plant in Mońki. Samples of wastewater were taken for analyses in 6 following points of the wastewater treatment plant of Bioblok type (Fig.1): before the chamber of gate valves equipped with screen, in desander equipped with mechanical screens for separating big suspensions and sand, in biological wastewater treatment reactor - dephosphatation chamber, in biological wastewater treatment reactor - denitrification chamber, in biological wastewater treatment reactor - nitrification chamber, secondary settling tank where separation of treated wastewater from activated sludge takes palace. Samples were taken once a week or once in 2 weeks form October 30th 2005 till September 15th 2006. Following parameters were determined in wastewater samples: nitrogen ammonia, nitrate nitrogen (V), total organic carbon TOC, chemical oxygen demand COD, biochemical oxygen demand BOD, suspension. On the basis of research results following conclusions were drawn: wastewater treatment plant in Mońki is exploited correctly. Biological reactors: flow and sequential wastewater treatment plant in Mońki are characterized by high efficiency of work. Technology applied which is based on low activated sludge loading method with removal of biogenic compounds in the flow arrangement, allows full biochemical degradation of contaminants. Considerable majority of analyzed parameters in treated wastewater fulfills requirements of Polish standards. Only sporadic excess of nitrates (V), TOC and total suspension were determined in treated wastewater
