Opis:
Iron-regulated outer membrane proteins (IROMPs) of P. multocida serotype A3, which function as receptors for complexes containing iron ions, are induced by iron deficiency in the bacterial growth environment. Analysis of an electrophoresis image of proteins isolated from bacteria grown on medium supplemented with 2,2'-dipyridyl revealed expression of 16 new proteins that were not noted in the case of the bacteria grown in standard conditions, with molecular weights from 30 to 160 kDa. Induction of IROMP expression occurred within 30 minutes after restricted iron conditions were established. In immunoblotting, distinct reactions were noted for proteins of molecular weight ranges of 25-49 kDa, 61-95 kDa, and 108-214 kDa. Proteins of the molecular weight of 68, 75 and 86 kDa were analysed using mass spectrometry and matched with the highest probability to proteins in the NCBI data base. Several dozen different proteins with similar amino acid sequences were matched to each sample.

Opis:
The paper presents the basics of manufacturing and the tribological properties of the developed cast iron-ceramic composite designed for brake discs or drums. The matrix of the composite consists of GJL-150 grey cast iron used for the production of brake discs. The reinforcing phase is a SiC foam with an activated surface. The use of ceramic foam simplifies the production process because it does not require expensive mixing of the matrix and the reinforcing phase to ensure the homogeneity of the composite. An addition of 10% SiC (λSiC= 100–350 Wm-1K-1) improves the thermal conductivity of cast iron (λCI = 50–60 Wm-1K-1). The presence of foam elements homogenously distributed throughout the whole matrix volume reduces the wear of both the composite and the counter-sample. The results of comparative studies of contacts between the cast iron and the composite brake disc showed almost a threefold lower wear of the pad and disc and about a 10°C lower temperature in the pad near the friction zone under the pressure of 1 MPa and at a sliding velocity of 0.5 m/s. The significantly lower wear of the friction elements of the brake system will contribute to a reduction in environmental pollution by wear debris, which is required by European Union directives.

Opis:
Continuous increase in the number of multidrug-resistant strains forces us to look for drugs with completely new mode of action. One of the bacterial property determining the pathogenicity of these microorganisms is their ability to obtain iron. Because in the living environment of these single-celled individuals, its concentration is much lower than this necessary for their growth. For this reason, bacteria created various type of iron aquisition systems, including the Feo system, which mechanism of Fe2+ ion uptake is not fully understood, and protein from the Hmu family belonging to ABC transporters. The Feo transport system is one of the most common systems that is exclusively responsible for importing Fe2+ ions. It consists of three proteins: FeoA, FeoB and FeoC. FeoB is a transmembrane protein that is believed to play a key role in the mechanism of Fe2+ ion uptake. The other two components are cytoplasmic proteins. Both, FeoA and FeoC, are cytoplasmic proteins resembling the construction of transcription regulators. ABC transporters play an equally important role in maintaining iron homeostasis. These include proteins from Hmu family. HmuUV complex catalyses the import of these ions in hem iron form. The structure of this complex consists of TMD dimer (HmuU) and NBD dimer (HmuV). The HmuU is considered to be a permease - just like the FeoB described earlier while HmuV is the ATP binding protein.

Opis:
This paper presents a closed loop simulation model that represents the mining logistics chain of the Vitória Minas Railway (VMR), Brazil. The simulator includes the loading process, circulation of loaded trains, unloading of ores for external and internal markets and the distribution of empty trains for new loads. General cargo and passengers trains are also included in the model, which, along with the queues formed in the circulation and the preventive and corrective maintenance of rolling stock, tracks and equipment, interfere with the transportation of iron ore. The primary objective of the iron ore transport is to meet the daily loading and unloading schedules and minimize queues by maximizing the operations at the loading and unloading points. The VMR simulator developed uses macro-mesoscopic approach with Monte Carlo simulation. To validate the simulator, we used actual data of the railway and compared with reality. We obtained a very good adhesion to the value of 2.9% for the validation scenario (Scenario 1) and 3.4% for the scenario with reducing the number of lots of wagons (Scenario 2). We concluded with this simulation that it is possible to reduce the number of GDE wagons without reducing the current level of productivity of the rail system.

Opis:
An initial assessment of the effectiveness of cast iron inoculation, performed by the method of impulse introducing the master alloy into cast iron, is presented. The experiment was concerned with the hypoeutectic gray cast iron inoculated with either the Alinoc or the Barinoc master alloy by means of an experimental device for pneumatic transportation. Examinations involved pneumatic injection of the powdered inoculant carried in a stream of gaseous medium (argon) into the metal bath held in the crucible of an induction furnace. It was found that the examined process is characterised by both high effectiveness and stability.
