The work presents the research results of the silumin coat structure applied on the carbidic alloy ductile iron with the metal matrix: pearlitic, bainitic and martensitic. The coats were made in the AlSi5 silumin bath at the temperature tk = 750±5ºC. The holding time of cast iron element in the bath was \tau = 180s. Irrespective of the kind of tested ductile iron the obtained coat consisted of three layers with a different phase composition. The first layer from the cast iron ground “g1” is built from Fe4CSi carbide which contains selected alloy additives of the cast iron. On it the second layer “g1” crystallizes. It consists of the AlFeSi inter-metallic phase which can appear in its pure form or contain a small quantity of the alloy additives of the cast iron. The last external part of the layer “g2” mainly consists of the hypo-eutectic phases of silumin. The AlFeSi inter-metallic phases in the form of free precipitations with a lamellar or faceted morphology can also appear there. These phases also can contain a small quantity of the alloy additives of the cast iron. More than that, in all the layers of the coat there are graphite precipitations. The phenomenon of graphite movement to the coat is caused by intensive dissolving of the cast iron element surface by the aluminum of the silumin bath.

One type of spheroidal cast iron, with additions of 0.51% Cu and 0.72% Ni, was subjected to precipitation hardening. Assuming that the greatest increase in hardness after the shortest time of ageing is facilitated by chemical homogenisation and fragmentation of cast iron grain matrix, precipitation hardening after pre-normalisation was executed. Hardness (HB), microhardness (HV), qualitative and quantitative metalographic (LM, SEM) and X-ray structural (XRD) tests were performed. The acquired result of 13.2% increase in hardness after ca. 5-hour ageing of pre-normalised cast iron confirmed the assumption.

Opis:
In this paper, we presented the technology of layered castings based on the founding method of layer coating directly in the cast process known as the method of mold cavity preparation by monolithic or granular material of insert. Prepared castings consist of two fundamental parts: the base part and working part (layer). The base part of a layered casting is usually typical foundry material (i.e., pearlitic grey cast iron with flake graphite or ferritic-pearlitic carbon cast steel), whereas the dependence of an insert type (i.e., monolithic or granular) working part (layer) is suitably plated with ferrit‑ ic and austenitic alloy steels or a layer from a Cr-base alloy. The ratio of thickness between the base and working part is between 8:1 and 10:1. The quality of the layered castings was evaluated on the basis of ultrasonic non-destructive test‑ ing, structure, and selected usable property research. According to work out technology, the prepared layered castings can work in conditions that require high heat resistance and/or corrosion resistance from the working surface layer of an element in a medium of industrial water, for example. Moreover, in the case of applying an insert based on Cr-base alloy powder on the working surface layer, it is possible to obtain high hardness and abrasive wear resistance.

Opis:
The use of secondary aluminum alloys is increasing because it contributes to the decrease of production costs. However, these alloys contain bigger amount of iron. Iron has a negative effect and therefore its elimination is necessary in order to add some elements, which are also called correctors of iron. The most frequently used corrector is manganese. Another quite often used correctors are chromium, potassium, magnesium, vanadium. In the following work, vanadium is used as a corrector of iron phases. The application of vanadium in aluminum alloys has a positive impact on their mechanical properties, increases the tensile strength, ductility and hardness. As experimental material AlSi6Cu4 alloy was used. It was alloyed by master alloy AlFe10. After adding to the master alloy the iron content, the critical value in the alloy exceeded. Vanadium was added to AlSi6Cu4 alloy in different quantities. The image analysis (software NIS-Elements) was used for quantifying the amount of iron based intermetallic phases and determination of average values.

Opis:
The paper presents data illustrating the total production of castings in the world and in Poland over the 1974-2013 period. The fractions of basic casting alloys in the total amount of material used for the production of metal castings during the considered period of time were found. It was noticed that the fraction of grey cast iron castings in the total amount of the produced castings decreased significantly over the past 40 years, both on a global scale (from about 65-75% to about 45%) and in Poland (from about 75-80% to about 45-55%). The fraction of SG iron increased considerably, up to about 25% in the world, and up to about 12-16% in Poland. The fraction of malleable became almost negligible (about 1%). The fraction of cast steel took different course in Poland and in the world: it stabilised on a global scale at about 10% in recent years, but dropped down to the level of about 4-7% in Poland. The use of aluminium alloys for the production of casting grew dynamically; their fraction in the total production of casting rose from somewhat less than 4% to almost 15% on a global scale. As far as Poland is considered, this growth was ever more intensive: from about 6-8% to about 25-30% in the 1989-2013 period (the detailed data for the previous period of time are lacking).

Opis:
Badaniu zostało poddane żeliwo wysokochromowe o zawartości 27%Cr i 2,7%C. Przeprowadzono zabieg hartowania z temperatury 950 °C w czasie 4h, następnie odlewy poddano trzem wariantom chłodzenia – w wodzie, w kąpieli solnej i na powietrzu. Zbadano i porównano mikrostrukturę oraz twardość odlewów dla różnych wariantów chłodzenia.
High Chromium Cast Iron (HCCI) is widely use in mining and mineral industry, where abrasive resistance is a principal requirement. Its good properties thanks to the hard eutectic carbides occurring in the microstructure. The effect of heat treatment on HCCI was a subject of many research. High Chromium Cast Iron have an austenitic, austenitic-pearlitic or pearlitic matrix. An important process during the heat treatment is austenite destabilization, thus until after it conduct the martensitic transformation can occur. Depending on the cooling rate that follows the process of destabilization of austenite, perlite, bainite and martensite may form. The present work, aimed at studying the influence of cooling rate after heat treatment, on the microstructure and hardness. The study were carry out on samples of High Chromium Cast Iron containing 27%Cr i 2,7%C. Samples were subjected to the tempering treatment at the temperature of 950°C for 4 hours and three variants of cooling – in water, in a salt bath and on air. Examined and compared the microstructure and hardness of castings for different variants of cooling.

Opis:
This paper deals with influence on segregation of iron based phases on the secondary alloy AlSi7Mg0.3 microstructure by nickel. Iron is the most common and harmful impurity in aluminum casting alloys and has long been associated with an increase of casting defects. In generally, iron is associated with the formation of Fe-rich intermetallic phases. It is impossible to remove iron from melt by standard operations. Some elements eliminates iron by changing iron intermetallic phase morphology, decreasing its extent and by improving alloy properties. Realization of experiments and results of analysis show new view on solubility of iron based phases during melt preparation with higher iron content and influence of nickel as iron corrector of iron based phases.

The physical-metallurgical method was used to eliminate the undesirable effect of the iron rich b-phase on the mechanical properties of the casting material using liquid metal modification by strontium, sodium, and tellurium. The chemical composition of an experimental material didn’t contain any elements for the solid-solution strengthening of a matrix; therefore, the presented results can document the capabilities of modifying the b-phase under a minimum influence on the properties of the basic Al-Si system.

Opis:
In Al-Si alloy the iron is the most common impurity and with presence of other elements in alloy creates the intermetallic compounds, which decreases mechanical properties and increases of porosity. The cause of the negative effect of intermetallic particles on the mechanical properties is that it is more easily break off the tension load as the aluminium matrix or small particles of silicon. By adding suitable alloying elements, also known as iron correctors, is possible to reduce this harmful effect. In the article is evaluated influence of manganese on microstructure with performed EDX analysis selected intermetallic phases and tensile test and measurement of length of Al5FeSi phase. For realization experiments was used AlSi7Mg0.3 alloy with increased iron content. Manganese was added in the amount 0.3 wt. %, 0.6 wt. %, 0.8 wt.% and 1,2 wt. %. From performed measurements it has been concluded, that increased amount of manganese, i.e. Mn/Fe ratio, does not have significant influence on mechanical properties AlSi7Mg0.3 alloy in the melted state.
