Opis:
The paper presents the effect of suction pressure exerted on the liquid AlSi alloy when it is introduced into a ceramic mould made in the investment process and the results compared with data obtained on gravity poured castings. The study used special pattern sets and ceramic moulds made with the alternately applied soluble silicate binder and ethyl silicate. Additionally, self-supported moulds based entirely on the Ekosil binder were used. In the analysis of castings, the following parameters were examined: a linear dimensional accuracy, the state of surface microgeometry and the possibility of metal penetration into a complex ceramic mould, allowing also for the presence of capillary phenomena. In the process of casting with back-pressure, the pressure values of 500 hPa, 600 hPa and 700 hPa were applied in the chamber where the ceramic mould was located, with the temperature of the said mould kept at a level of 150±10ºC.

Opis:
Podczas wykonywania bransolety wykorzystano metodę szybkiego prototypowania. Podstawą rekonstrukcji były oryginalne zabytkowe fragmenty form odlewniczych z epoki brązu pozyskane w wyniku współpracy Wydziału Odlewnictwa AGH z Muzeum Miedzi w Legnicy. Przeprowadzone badania mikroskopowe i defektoskopowe umożliwiły dokładne poznanie technologii oraz umożliwiły wykonanie bransolety, m.in. zrobienie pomiarów, które następnie posłużyły do wykonania trójwymiarowej rekonstrukcji gotowego wyrobu. W efekcie otrzymano odlane bransolety z brązu, które przybliżają kształty ozdób produkowanych w epoce brązu.
In the Bronze Age ornaments, fine art products made by Lost Wax. It had jewelry and aesthetic function, but also the supply of social status and wealth, was a sign of power and Exchange product to another product. The purpose of the article is to discuss issues related to the implementation of the newly refurbished casting bracelets to the bronze age. The implementation process were analysed castings in bronze and compares it with the modern methods of casting. To learn the design, made by reverse engineering and are ready to cast the bronze bracelets recorded using the Lost Wax method. During the execution of the bracelets rapid prototyping method. The basis for the reconstruction of the former original antique molds fragments of bronze age obtained as a result of the cooperation of the Faculty of Foundry Engineering with the Museum of Copper in Legnica. Microscopic and defectoscopic examination have made it possible for accurate knowledge technology and have made it possible to make bracelets, make the measurements, which are then used to perform three-dimensional reconstruction of the finished product. As a result, received ready cast bracelet, events that approximate the shapes of ornaments produced in the Bronze Age.

Opis:
This paper presents results of a study of the effect of inoculation of yttrium on the microstructure of AZ91 alloy. The concentration of the inoculant was increased in samples in the range from 0.1% up to 0.6%. The influence of Y on the thermal effects resulting from the phase transformations occurring during the crystallisation at different inoculant concentrations were examined with the use of Derivative and Thermal Analysis (DTA). The microstructures of the samples were examined with the use of an optical microscope; and an image analysis with a statistical analysis were also carried out. Those analyses aimed at examining oh the effect of inoculation of the Y on the differences between the grain diameters of phase αMg and eutectic αMg+γ(Mg17Al12) in the prepared examined material as well as the average size of each type of grain by way of measuring their perimeters.

Opis:
Castability of thin-walled castings is sensitive to variation in casting parameters. The variation in casting parameters can lead to undesired casting conditions which result in defect formation. Variation in rejection rate due to casting defect from one batch to other is common problem in foundries and the cause of this variation usually remain unknown due to complexity of the process. In this work, variation in casting parameters resulting from human involvement in the process is investigated. Casting practices of different groups of casting operators were evaluated and resulting variations in casting parameters were discussed. The effect of these variations was evaluated by comparing the rejection statistics for each group. In order to minimize process variation, optimized casting practices were implemented by developing specific process instructions for the operators. The significance of variation in casting parameters in terms of their impact on foundry rejections was evaluated by comparing the number of rejected components before and after implementation of optimized casting practices. It was concluded that variation in casting parameters due to variation in casting practices of different groups has significant impact on casting quality. Variation in mould temperature, melt temperature and pouring rate due to variation in handling time and practice resulted in varying quality of component from one batch to other. By implementing the optimized casting instruction, both quality and process reliability were improved significantly.

Opis:
This paper presents an overview of a research on six practical cases that were solved in a precise casting company where parts are cast by the mean of the low-wax casting method (investment casting) in order to decrease poor quality production. The steel cast parts production technology by the lost-wax method requires the detailed work procedures observation. On the base of statistical processing data of given types of casting products, it was possible to assess the significance of each particular checking events by using the statistical hypothesis testing. The attention was focused on wax and ceramic departments. The data in technological flow were compared before and after the implementation of the change and statistical confirmative influences were assessed. The target consisted in setting such control manners in order to get the right conditions for decreasing poor quality parts. It was evidenced that the cast part defect cause correct identification and interpretation is important.
