In these remarks I put a question mark by the term conscience recalled by Catholics. Their aim isn’t however an attempt to undermine their faith in the causative force of conscience, but to show that it’s theological interpretation is one thing, but it’s practical application is another. It is worth noting that both in the past and in the present they not just function simultaneously, but also in some cases being in conflict. They were and still are undertaken attempts of erasing this conflict or at least to weaken its significance. In my view, it does not serve well the Roman Catholic Church, and also those who seek other guides for their lives and existence with other people. They weaken the trust towards the Church and the conscience in which existence we believe, or at least want to (no matter the religious affiliation).

The author takes a look at selected issues in the field of quantum mechanics – especially the problem of quantum superposition and supersymmetry – from perspective of great philosophical systems. The author draws attention to the fact that some of these issues reflect old philosophical problems (e.g., empiricism vs rationalism), and – in some cases – philosophical perspective may save interpretations of quantum mechanics from paradoxes.

In the contemporary philosophical debate about probability, one of the main problems concerns the relation between objective probability and determinism. Is it possible for objective probability and determinism to co‑exist? This is one of the questions this dispute tries to answer. The scope of discussion is conducted between advocates of a positive answer (compatibilist) and co‑existence opponents (incompatibilist). In the early twentieth century, many logicians also developed topics regarding probability and determinism. One of them was the outstanding Polish logician and philosopher — Jan Łukasiewicz. The general purpose of this paper is to analyse and implement Łukasiewicz’s views regarding determinism and probability in the contemporary field of this problem. I will try to show the relation between his interpretations of these concepts and in consequence his attempt to confront them. As a result of the above analysis, I present some different positions (located in the fields of logic and semantics) in the contemporary discourse about the relation between objective probability and determinism. Moreover, I will present Łukasiewicz’s views about this relation and the consequence of these solutions in the field of logic.

The article examines semantic aspects of the concept of a house in Gothic literature and its transformation and comprehension by the American writer Howard Phillips Lovecraft. A house in literature is not just an architectural element, an entourage; it is a living space that determines the emotional state of characters, their spiritual and mental quest. The semantics of the word “house” is very extensive, therefore different writers (H.P. Lovecaft in particular) artfully play with meanings, offering their own original interpretations of a house.

Unlike in the classical regime, the measurement performed on a quantum system perturbs the state of the system and its properties remain unknown between measurements. Several early interpretations of quantum mechanics suggested that the reduction of the wave vector that occurs in a measurement is effected by a conscious act of an observer. For example, London and Bauer fostered the conviction that it is the act of observation that decides on the fate of the Schrodinger cat. Later developments of quantum mechanical formalism, e.g., decoherence, indicated that there was no need to causally link the mental states of an observer with the purely physical process of a quantum measurement. In particular, the novel quantum models of human brain put forward by Roger Penrose suggest that it is the reduction of the wave vector that causes conscious act of the observer. Although this reversal does not clarify the specifics of the quantum measurement process directly, it illustrates the principle of methodological naturalism whereby externally introduced heuristic postulates are replaced by well justified scientific explanations.

Article focuses on interpretation of the last novel written by Wiesław Myśliwski Traktat o łuskaniu fasoli. The author presents biography of hero — musician and homo viator. Novel describes his life and its connections with Polish history in XXth century. Above all, it presents a reflections on the role of music in culture after II World War. In his Traktat... Myśliwski performs anti-logocentric turn — music is created as a sphere of art which has power of salvation: it could save human being life from destruction and could stop destruction of rudimental senses formed European culture.

In this article, the author discusses and reviews the first Polish critical edition of Johann Wolfgang Goethe’s The Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily (2015). The literary text was preceded by two elaborate scientific descriptions which the author of this article refers to. The primary focus is on the extensive German tradition of interpreting The Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily (Das Märchen, 1795), because the main spur of its development is the difficulty or inability to obtain its unambiguous interpretation due to the high degree of symbolism and the esotericism of this literary work. Both critical texts feature the following interpretation grounds: historic-literary – emphasizing the role of the literary circle of the Weimar Goethe and Schiller; historical – stressing the importance of the events associated with the French Revolution and its impact on the situation in Germany; philosophical – represented by Rudolf Steiner and his anthroposophic reading of this work; and poetological – focusing on the properties and functions of its poetics. Among the existing explication there is a lack of genology of the fairy tales and a lack of the placing the work in a broader context of ideas and works of Goethe, which, if taken into account could help to clarify its meanings.

The article focuses on one of the major mysteries concealed in Fyodor Dostoevsky’s oeuvre up to the present day, namely the main cause of a double murder committed by Raskolnikov in Crime and Punishment. I present selected scholarly interpretations of Raskolnikov’s deed, some of them being already classical and ever inspiring for subsequent readings of the novel, some using extremely persuasive argumentation on one of Raskolnikov’s possible motives. Each of these readings becomes an object of my commentary and critical assessment as I indicate those fragments in Dostoevsky’s novel which undermine their claim to provide an ultimate solution of Raskolnikov’s reason for crime. This presentation leads to the conclusion that Crime and Punishment is unusually open for interpretations, which probably have more to say about the philosophical identity of their authors rather than about Dostoevsky’s intentions in creating his famous protagonists. Eventually I claim that the novel’s main secret – Raskolnikov’s motive for murder – is never to find its one, satisfactory explanation and that this is what makes a literary work a true, immortal masterpiece.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss extreme views on the sign (interpretable, hermeneutic) character of “humanist objects”, the so called artefacts, and the abuse of methodological choices which produce them. Apart from several introductory sen-tences, I shall remain, however, concerned with these objects, the thing in itself, rather than pseudo-philosophical meanderings “beyond the thing”. Simply, I would like to provide several examples, arguments against the criticised views.inning of the 1930s. Some of the travellers visited the state seeking to be reassured in their negative opinion. Others, in contrast, went there convinced that they travelled to a country of universal social justice. However, they did not realise to what an extent the programme of their visit depended on the Soviet propaganda machine. The combined reading of texts by Antoni Słonimski, Andre Gide, Melchior Wańkowicz and Bernard Shaw shows the USSR as a country whose directions of development are difficult to foresee.

Opis:
One of the most important interpretative problems of quantum mechanics concerns the so called hidden variables. Sometimes it is said that the Bell's theorem falsifies theories of such variables, but in fact, it falsifies only local ones. This paper deals with David Bohm's interpretation of quantum mechanics, which is a kind of nonlocal hidden variable theory. This theory delivers a full deterministic and realistic description of quantum phenomena and predicts the same results as standard quantum mechanics. It is argued that this interpretation is still worth being investigated, because it remains in the full agreement with the mathematical formalism of this theory and it surpasses the standard interpretation as far as simplicity and lack of arbitrary assumptions are concerned.

In this paper, we apply the concept of timing to explore the meaning that women attach towards planned and unplanned pregnancy. We conducted qualitative semi-structured interviews with 42 Canadian women who were pregnant or recently gave birth to examine how they experience the transition to motherhood. We contend that the timing of pregnancy is a socially constructed norm that impacts women through a complex range of life events and circumstances. Participants’ accounts suggest a gamut of compliance, ambivalence, and defiance towards the “timing of pregnancy” standards. Situating women’s decisions on childbearing within the continuum of their life trajectories and societal expectations surrounding pregnancy allows for better understanding of the interplay between women’s personal choices and the social norms informing these decisions.

In modern science, the theory of probability is one of the basic tools. Scientists using probability often refer to its objective interpretation. They emphasize that their probabilistic hypotheses concern objective facts, not degrees of belief. Accordingly, the following questions arise: What is the meaning of this type of probabilistic hypothesis? Is the assumption of objectivity necessary? The paper addresses these questions by analyzing objective probability in the context of the scientific debate on determinism. Two types of arguments will be presented. On the one hand, there is the assertion that objective probability can exist only in an indeterministic world. Then, on the other hand - I analyze the assertions of those who believe in the co‑existence of objective probability and determinism. As a result I show that the acceptance of deterministic and indeterministic fields as possible areas where objective probability can occur is extremely problematic. Depending on the chosen area we encounter different types of problems. Therefore, I show that a significant number of these problems are associated with the acceptance of incorrect metaphysical assumptions. And finally, I postulate that the objectivity of probability (and assumptions pertaining to it) can be reduced (without any losses) to the epistemic variant.

Modern life poses before people various challenges, many of which are associated with the need to be creative. And yet the sphere of amateur musical activity and education conducive to stimulating creativity in the education process of younger children is neglected. Creativity is often just an empty slogan in the core of the curriculum. The article describes a musical project implemented within the framework of extra-curricular activities, that was attended by children living in rural areas. It was based on the assumptions of Dalcroze Eurhythmics (also known as the Dalcroze Method) and one of the adopted strategies was to encourage the chil-dren’s to be more self-reliant and to stimulate their creative behavior through musical activity. The completed project shows how one can develop a child by allowing it to be creative as well as what triggers the emotions within it. Experiencing music and situations associated with it, fosters the development of cognitive, emotional, aesthetic, or social spheres of children. In other words: both teachers and parents should consciously use strategies to encourage musical creativity of children and to develop their creativity. The teacher or instructor can use this to interpret music and movement, which are quite often neglected and undervalued.
Współczesność stawia przed człowiekiem różne wyzwania, z których wiele wiąże się z potrzebą bycia twórczym. Amatorska aktywność muzyczna, edukacja czy kształcenie muzyczne sprzyjają twórczości, jednakże właśnie w edukacji dzieci młodszych ten obszar jest zaniedbany, a kreatywność to często tylko puste hasło w podstawie programowej. W artykule opisano projekt muzyczny realizowany w ramach zajęć pozaszkolnych. Uczestniczyły w nim dzieci mieszkające na terenach wiejskich. Miał u swych podstaw założenia rytmiki Dalcroze’a, a jedną z przyjętych strategii było działanie muzyczne nastawione na samodzielność dzieci i stymulację zachowań twórczych. Projekt pokazał, jak bardzo można rozwijać dziecko i uwolnić jego emocje, pozwalając mu na bycie twórczym. Przeżywanie muzyki i sytuacje z tym związane sprzyjają rozwojowi poznawczemu, emocjonalnemu, estetycznemu i społecznemu, zatem zarówno nauczyciele, jak i rodzice powinni świadomie stosować strategie stymulowania muzycznej twórczości dzieci i pobudzania ich kreatywności. Nauczyciel czy instruktor może wykorzystać w tym celu interpretacje ruchowe muzyki, tak często lekceważonej i niedocenianej, bo nieznanej – muzyki poważnej.
