Genesis 49 shows the scene that takes place at the deathbed of the patriarch Jacob. In the face of his upcoming death, Jacob calls on all of his sons that they may listen to and accept his words of valediction. The patriarch addresses each of them individually. This piece of text serves an example of the biblical poetry in which metaphors play an important role. In the Hebrew text there are words and phrases that raise many doubts and questions. Not only contemporary translators and biblical scholars contend with these difficulties, but ancient and medieval commentators did as well. The Aramaic Targums testify to the early Jewish exegesis and interpretation of Gen 49. This article presents the paraphrase and discusses a few selected verses of the Aramaic version of Torah (Tg. Onq., Tg. Neof., Frg. Tg(s)., Tg. Ps.-J.). Based on the above examples, the development of principal Jewish views on eschatology (49:1-2) and of Messianic expectations in context of Jacob’s blessing of the tribe of Judah (49:8-12) is portrayed. The last part of this article comprises the rendering and the meaning of the Targumic animal metaphors based on the examples of Issachar (49:14-15) and of Benjamin (49:27) that significantly differ from the Hebrew text.

Artykuł poświęcony jest podobieństwom pomiędzy wykładnią prawa a interpretacją Biblii. Tekst koncentruje się na mechanizmach leżących u podstaw zarówno zasad interpretacji prawa, jak i Biblii. Po pierwsze, omawia się krótko analogiczne językowe dyrektywy wykładni. Po drugie, wskazuje się pozajęzykowe dyrektywy interpretacyjne. W drugiej części tekstu zwraca się też uwagę na pewne wady pozajęzykowych zasad interpretacji prawniczej. W konkluzjach proponuje się koncepcję, która umożliwia przezwyciężenie tych niedoskonałości.
This paper concerns similarity of interpretation of law and interpretation of the Bible. It focuses on the same mechanisms grounding both the principles of interpretation of law and interpretation of the Bible. First, similar textual principles of interpretation are briefly described. Second, extra-textual principles of interpretation are given. In the second part some shortcomings of legal extra-textual principles of interpretation are also indicated. At the end of the text, a theory that allows to disregard these shortcomings is proposed.

The actualization of the Holy Scripture is a necessary task nowadays. On the one hand, we have the Biblical texts conditioned by the times in which they were formed; on the other, we have the the modern reader, also conditioned by his or her times, wanting to live the Word of God. The fourth section of the Pontifical Biblical Commission’s 1994 The Interpretation of the Bible in the Church takes up this issue. The aim of this article is to analyze the statements of the document on actualization and to present the process as a new, special and hitherto insufficiently explored way to reference the message of the Bible to the life of believers today.
Aktualizacja Pisma Świętego jest dzisiaj zadaniem koniecznym. Z jednej strony mamy teksty biblijne uwarunkowane przez czasy, w których powstawały, a z drugiej współczesnego czytelnika, również uwarunkowanego swoimi czasami, pragnącego żyć Słowem Bożym. Dokument Papieskiej Komisji Biblijnej Interpretacja Biblii w Kościele z 1993 roku w swej czwartej części podejmuje to zagadnienie. Celem artykułu było przeanalizowanie wypowiedzi dokumentu na temat aktualizacji i przedstawienie jej jako nowego, szczególnego i wciąż nie dość zgłębionego sposobu odniesienia przesłania Biblii do życia współczesnych wierzących.

Artykuł stanowi analizę dwóch strategii podejmowanych przez feministyczne i lesbijskie działaczki, dokonujące próby reinterpretacji odczytań tradycji i rytuału judaistycznego. Tekst wykazuje podwójne wykluczenie, jakiego doświadczają lesbijki, zarówno w tradycyjnych, jak i zreformowanych gminach żydowskich. Przedstawiając analizę tego zjawiska, ukazuje zarazem, w jaki sposób wzorce wykluczenia są przekształcane i/lub odrzucane przez zwolenniczki teologii emancypacyjnej. Kluczowe jest jednak pytanie, na ile zmiany te stanowią rzeczywistą rewolucję, na ile mogą zmienić główny nurt judaizmu.
The article is an analyse of two main strategies which are adopted by feminist and lesbian activists who reinterpret Jewish tradition and ritual. The text shows that lesbians are excluded in both orthodox (conservative) Jewish community and also in liberal movement. I try to present a deep picture of the excluded group situation. However at the same time I present also how lesbian activists reconfigure or reject oppressive patterns and propose their own emancipatory theological ideas.The key question of the text is: if the changes which are presented by feminist and lesbian theology are adopted in different Jewish communities and if they may change the core of Judaism.

Artykuł przedstawia wpierw założenia i zasady, a następnie trzy kroki aktualizacji według dokumentu Papieskiej Komisji Biblijnej Interpretacja Biblii w Kościele. Zwraca uwagę na teksty zawarte w Dziejach Apostolskich, w których można znaleźć realizację postulatów dokumentu Komisji dotyczącą aktualizacji (Dz 1, 15–26; 4, 1–31 oraz 15, 13–21). W analizie literacko-retorycznej tekstu Dz 4, 1–31 wskazuje realizację trzech kroków aktualizacji zawartych w dokumencie Interpretacja Biblii Kościele. Model aktualizacji, zawarty w badanym tekście, ma niezwykłą wagę, stanowi bowiem natchniony zapis wzorcowego dla przyszłych pokoleń postępowania Kościoła Apostolskiego.
The article first presents the assumptions and principles followed by three steps of the actualization according to the document Interpretation of the Bible in the Church by the Pontifical Biblical Commission.Then the article discusses the texts contained in the Acts of the Apostles, in which you can find the implementation of the postulates of the Commission’s document regarding the actualization (Acts 1:15–26; 4:1–31 and 15:13–21). The literary-rhetorical analysis of the text Acts 4:1–31 indicates the implementation of three steps of actualization as presented in the document Interpretation of the Bible in the Church. The model of actualization, applied in the analyzed text, is an inspired record of best practice for future generations of Christ’s disciples.

Przedmiotem analizy jest dokument Papieskiej Komisji Biblijnej „Interpretacja Biblii w Kościele”. Jest on najpierw odczytany w kontekście odnowy biblijnej, jaka miała miejsce w Kościele katolickim w XX wieku, w szczególności w związku z konstytucją Dei Verbum Soboru Watykańskiego II. Nowością dokumenty PKB jest położenie większego akcentu na kwestię aktualizacji i inkulturacji Biblii, jak również zwrócenie uwagi na duszpasterską rolę wspólnot podstawowych podejmujących lekturę Pisma Świętego. Pewną słabością dokumentu „Interpretacja Biblii w Kościele” jest zauważalny w nim brak współpracy biblistów z teologiami pastoralnymi. Ten mankament jest przezwyciężony w adhortacji Verbum Domini, której główny postulat zawiera się w „ubiblijnieniu całego duszpasterstwa”. W konsekwencji adhortacja stwarza nowe możliwości animacji biblijnej duszpasterstwa, rozwijając i pogłębiając postulaty wysunięte wcześniej w dokumencie „Interpretacji Biblii w Kościele”.
The first aim of the article is to place the document The Interpretation of the Bible in the Church within the context of the biblical renewal of the 20th century. Maintaining a continuity with the constitution Dei Verbum, the PBC puts in its document new elements which indicate the place of the Bible in the Church. It concerns mainly the actualization and inculturation of the Holy Scripture. Vital for pastoral work are recommendations on the biblical apostolate, above all those referring to basic communities that read the Bible. The analysis of the fourth chapter of the PBC’s document also yielded some critical comments concerning the presented postulates. The weakness of this document is, without any doubt, the fact that it was written from the biblical scholarly point of view, without the collaboration of pastoral theologians of various specialities. This fundamental deficiency of the document The Interpretation of the Bible in the Church is absent in exhortation Verbum Domini. Postulates presented by Pope Benedict XVI referring to “biblical animation of all pastoral work” show that the Bible is not an addition to pastoral work, but rather its source and essence. Proposals contained in the exhortation Verbum Domini give new opportunities for biblical animation in many areas of the life of Church.

Opis:
Diverse areas of studies are concerned with the answer to the inquiry on the meaning of human existence. Also theology, referring to the Divine Revelation, points out to the meaning of existence, revealed by God. Also Benedict XVI refers to this issue in his apostolic exhortation Verbum Domini – On the Word of God in the life and mission of the Church. Indicating the Eternal Word, that entered the time and was pronounced in human way, at the same time the Holy Father convinces us, that for the person receiving this Word in faith, it can be the source of the meaning of existence. The Divine Revelation becomes the source of the meaning of human life thanks to its rationality, through responses it provides for the deepest human inquiries and desires, and thanks to the perspective of fullness of life transcending the limits of temporality. The meaning of human existence revealed in the Word of God, is properly understood and most fully accessible in the Church. The community of God's people is called to reveal the Eternal Word faithfully as reality, which can be lived, and thanks to which one can live.

The article presents the problem of structuralism in cultural anthropology as an example of interpretation in the humanities. The main goal is a critical description of Edmund Leach’s proposal put forward in his Against Genres: Are Parables Lights Set in Candlesticks or Put Under a Bushel? The proposed method, as well as its application to biblical texts, is analysed from the perspective of philosophy of science. The analysis leads to the description of areas in which the author breaches the rules of the method proposed by himself.

This article describes the relations between dual grammatical number and theology. The original thesis was: Upper Sorbian translations of the Bible contain theologically problematic uses of dual forms. The hypothesis is accompanied by an analysis of the exegesis and theology of the periscopes Gen 1, 28; Mt 20, 23; £k 2, 7; J 1, 41 and 17, 21. Application or failure to apply dual forms in the texts in question poses significant problems on the level of theology. This article contains also a suggestion of certain rules to be followed in future revisions of the existing translation of the Upper Sorbian Bible. Firstly, the use of dual grammatical number should go hand in hand with the theological perspective of the biblical texts. Secondly, in cases when the category of dual grammatical number cannot accommodate theology, the latter should be a priority.

The Biblical image of Mary Magdalene in the interpretation of Lesya Ukrainka, a Ukrainian poet of the turn of the 20th century The author of this article presents the image of Miriam  the protagonist of the poetic drama entitled Oderżyma [A Woman Possessed] by Lesya Ukrainka, a wellknown Ukrainian poet composing at the turn of the 20th century. The interpretation of the poetic image rests on the theory of intertextuality, which allows the author to exhibit and expound all the levels of senses and references that the image relates to.
Авторка статті презентує образ Міріам – героїні драматичної поеми Одержима авторства української поетеси зламу ХІХ і ХХ ст. Лесі Українки. Інтерпретація образу здійснюється за допомогою теорії інтертекстуальності, завдяки якій можна показати інші рівні значень і зв’язків, з якими пов’язаний образ.

Benedict’s theological work shows his deep interest of the findings of historical and critical biblical scholarship. This article attempts to show a part of Pope Benedict’s thought at this field. The keyword for this theme is “the hermeneutic of faith”. There are a few steps to understand this. First: the critique of historical criticism as beginning the search for a new synthesis. Second: a question about new hermeneutic based on the historical structure of Christian faith. Third: an asking about a new language (authors of Scriptures as normative theologians). Benedict points out that Scriptures are inseparable united with Church. He represents a deep understanding of the inner logic and necessity of reading of Scriptures from the heart of the Church.

Przedstawienie proweniencji tej metody, a dalej prezentacja, na czym ona polega w rozumieniu świętego Hieronima i jakimi rządzi się regułami, stanowi zasadniczy problem niniejszego studium.
Tropology is one of the patristic methods of interpreting the biblical text. Saint Jerome includes it in his hermeneutical canon, which he calls "the triple description and rule of Sacred Scripture" (triplex descriptio et regula Scripturarum). He also explains that the essence of tropology is moral interpretation. The main problem of this study is to present the provenance of this method, and then to discuss what it consists of in the understanding of Saint Jerome and what rules it is governed by.

Benedykt XVI polecał interpretować Sobór Watykański II w optyce „hermeneutyki reformy”. Jednak oczekiwana przez niego hermeneutyka soborowego dziedzictwa sama doczekała się różnych interpretacji. Gdzie w takim razie poszukiwać odpowiedniej hermeneutyki „hermeneutyki reformy”?
The article focuses on the issue of proper interpretation of the Second Vatican Council’s inheritance. Benedict XVI believes a “hermeneutic of reform” is an alternative to a “hermeneutic of rupture”. Nevertheless, the expected “hermeneutic of reform” has received different interpretations. That’s why a relevant hermeneutic of the “hermeneutic of reform” must be applied. The author presumes that an issue of the Bible interpretation, which is in accord with the postulated by Benedict XVI “hermeneutic of faith”, is a practical expression of applying the “hermeneutic of reform”. Therefore, the „hermeneutic of reform” has been interpreted in the light of the “hermeneutic of faith”.

Opis:
In the article the author attempts to present the translation process associated with the concept of “the triad”: identification – interpretation – translation (and the different variations of it). The author gives examples where cultural components also play a significant role in the reception of the translated text (the method of selecting between foreignization and domestication – including folk terminology). In the study, excerpts from different domains of the Holy Scriptures serve a purpose as research materials. The author notices that translation includes the signs of creativity, which give the translator the right for inventiveness and in some cases even free interpretation, which directly corresponds with the objective thesis about ethical and social frames over translation processes of management, especially in the field of written texts.
