    One in four of all households in Poland does not have access to the Internet, while in the EU15, the same refers to only one in every six households. In this paper we analyze the Internet infrastructure from both supply (broadband coverage-speed) and demand (usage of Internet by individuals-SMEs) side, as well as the affordability aspect. In particular, we search for biggest gaps of Poland’s Internet infrastructure in comparison to other European Union Member States (EU15 and NMS12). Our empirical analysis is based on European Commission’s and ITU’s databases. Moreover, we provide some recommendations for the government and enterprises exposing the biggest gaps of Poland and emphasizing the beneficial impact of the Next Generation Access networks.

    This study aims to provide more in-depth knowledge about professionals’ views regarding Internet use among youths with intellectual disability (ID). How do the professionals describe the abilities of the youths with ID when using the Internet for social, romantic, and sexual reasons? What kinds of experiences do the professionals have of these youths’ Internet usage, and how do they talk about their ways of dealing with this? In what ways do the professionals describe their own competence regarding Internet usage among youths with ID aged 16-21 years, and do they express the need for any specific tools? Qualitative research interviews were conducted with 17 professionals, 4 males and 13 females, between the ages of 29 and 58. The professionals described challenges with the youths’ various emotional and intellectual abilities, as well as their technical knowledge in relation to Internet use. The results highlight three themes: A two-fold usage, Between being controlling and permissive, and A lack of strategies. The article discusses the development of a ‘Participation-script’, where a continuous dialogue with the youths with ID exists parallel to a restrictive Net-script. We argue that everyday school situations concern joint decision-making between professionals and pupils with ID. Such an approach to participation is based on relationships, that is, oriented towards the self-understanding and individual agency of youths with ID, as well as to the self-understanding of the professionals involved in the lives of youths with ID.

    This article focuses on the selfie phenomenon among young people, presenting it through mechanisms described by culture experts, educators and psychologists. To this end, a systematic analysis of articles and reports on youth and young adults was carried out regarding self-portrait digital photographs posted on social networks. The text starts with the presentation of the socio-cultural background and the variable most frequently discussed in the context of selfies – their narcissistic quality. It became the key to reviewing international literature pertaining to the use of the most popular social networks sites (SNS), such as Instagram and Facebook. Social platforms have provided a convenient space for narcissists, enabling them to enter into qualitatively weak interpersonal relationships that don’t require emotional investments and are temporary, but which at the same time satisfy their need for attention. The text juxtaposes the use of these websites and the time that young people spend online, the popularity of selected websites and applications, and other concomitant variables related to the publication of selfies by young people. The analysis reveals that the selfie phenomenon is associated with the style in which young people use these SNS, results from young people’s developmental characteristics/interests (e.g. building one’s social position and self-creation), raises a lot of controversy, carries certain research inaccuracies, and is related to a key competence – digital skills.

    Internet to medium, które użytkownikom dostarcza wielu korzyści. Umożliwia on nawiązywanie i podtrzymywanie kontaktów społecznych, zapewnia rozrywkę i jest źródłem wszechstronnych informacji. Ponadto Sieć pełni coraz istotniejszą rolę w edukacji, pracy zawodowej czy w handlu. Wymieniając przykładowe zalety Internetu nie można pominąć jednak faktu, że jego użytkowanie może nieść za sobą różnego rodzaju zagrożenia. Jednym z nich jest ryzyko uzależnienia. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na pewne aspekty związane z korzystaniem z Internetu przez osoby w okresie późnej dorosłości. W związku z tym podjęto próbę nakreślenia wzorców korzystania z Internetu przez seniorów, zaprezentowano wybrane wyniki badań nad zjawiskiem uzależnienia od tego medium w wyróżnionej grupie osób.
    The Internet is a medium that provides its users with many benefits. It enables the establishment and maintenance of social contacts, provides entertainment, and is a source of comprehensive information. In addition, the network plays an increasingly important role in education, work, and trade. However, when listing the advantages of the Internet, one cannot overlook the fact that its use can pose various risks. One of them is the risk of becoming addicted. The aim of this article is drawing attention to certain aspects related with the use of the Internet by people in late adulthood. In connection with this, an attempt will be made to outline patterns of Internet use by seniors, as well as selected studies on the phenomenon of dependence on this medium in a specific group of people will be shown.

    Computerization of companies, functioning in the information society with continuous access to the Internet is closely related to the use of the Internet by employees. A tool with such a large potential can certainly contribute to the improvement of the company's functioning, but it turns out that it also has a negative side. A factor that has a negative impact on small enterprises and large corporations is cybercrime, ie abuse of the network during business hours for private purposes. The article presents the results of a survey regarding the use of the Internet at work by employees and anonymity in the network.
    Informatyzacja firm, funkcjonowanie w społeczeństwie informacyjnym z ciągłym dostępem do Internetu są ściśle związane z korzystaniem z Internetu przez pracowników. Narzędzie o tak dużym potencjale może z pewnością przyczynić się do poprawy funkcjonowania firmy, ale okazuje się, że posiada on także negatywną stronę. Czynnikiem mającym niekorzystny wpływ na małe przedsiębiorstwa i duże korporacje jest cyberprzestępstwo, tj. nadużywanie sieci w godzinach pracy do celów prywatnych. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki ankiety dotyczącej wykorzystania Internetu w pracy przez pracowników oraz anonimowości w sieci.

    Celem niniejszego artykuł jest ukazanie zastosowania elementów metodologii geografii internetu w badaniach medioznawczych na przykładzie analizy mediatyzacji zjawiska społeczno-politycznego, jakim było wprowadzenie tzw. Polskiego Ładu. W przedmiotowym badaniu przetestowano funkcjonalność narzędzia Google Trends w tego typu badaniach na wynikach dla haseł: „Polski Ład”, „Nowy Polski Ład”, „Nowy Ład” w okresie od 31 stycznia 2021 r. do 31 stycznia 2022 r., na podstawie których próbowano ukazać mediatyzację zachowań polskich internautów w związku z badanym wydarzeniem. Analiza zagadnienia jest przykładem zastosowania multidyscyplinarnej metodologii w badaniu mediatyzacji w „nowej rzeczywistości”, jednak studium pokazuje, że Google Trends jako narzędzie przedmiotowej metodologii nie jest kompletnym instrumentem do tego typu badań i wymaga stosowania narzędzi pomocniczych, które nie są w stanie w pełni oddać pogłębionego obrazu zjawiska w multidyscyplinarnej perspektywie.
    The purpose of this paper is to present how the elements of Internet geography methodology can be applied in media studies, basing on the case study of mediatization of the socio-political phenomenon of the “Polish Order”. We tested the functioning of the Google Trends tool in this type of research using keywords such as “Polish Order”, “New Polish Order”, “New Order” and setting the timeframe between January 31, 2021 and January 31, 2022.  Our analysis is an example of how to apply a multidisciplinary methodology in studying mediatization in the “new reality”.However, the study shows that Google Trends is not a sufficient tool for this type of research and requires the use of auxiliary tools that are not capable to fully representing the broad picture of the phenomenon in a multidisciplinary perspective.

    The academia of the University of Mysore in India encompasses faculty and research scholars. Both are involved in research, publication and lifelong learning, and faculty members are deeply engaged in assisting students. Besides the print collection, the library users have access to a variety of electronic resources. In the recent past, the librarians have been encouraging a more effective use of e-books, which are web based and downloadable. The library’s collection of electronic books is growing. It is said that ‘the most important development in literature in the world after Guttenberg is the e-book’ [6]. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the usage of e-resources at the University of Mysore. The paper covers demographic characteristics, computer and Internet usage, types of e-books accessed, the purpose of search, and duration of e-books use. E-books provide easy and instant access to the content and are convenient to read and browse. The findings of the survey reveal that the e-books of Springer, Taylor & Francis were used the most. Reference e-books were used very frequently. A lack of awareness together with acquisition costs seem to hinder usage of e-books.
    Środowisko akademickie Uniwersytetu of Mysore w Indiach obejmuje wykładowców i uczonych badaczy. Oba środowiska prowadzą badania, wydają publikacje i organizują kształcenie ustawiczne, a pracownicy wydziału są głęboko zaangażowani w pomoc studentom. Oprócz zbiorów dokumentów drukowanych, użytkownicy biblioteki mają dostęp do różnych zasobów elektronicznych. W niedawnej przeszłości bibliotekarze zostali zachęceni do bardziej efektywnego wykorzystania e-książek, które są do pobrania dzięki sieci internetowej. Biblioteczne kolekcje książek elektronicznych powiększają się. Mówi się, że „najważniejszym wydarzeniem w rozwoju literatury na świecie po wynalazku Guttenberga jest e-book” [6]. Celem niniejszego badania była ocena wykorzystania e-źródeł na Uniwersytecie w Mysore. W artykule przedstawiono charakterystykę demograficzną, wykorzystanie komputera i Internetu, dostępne rodzaje e-booków oraz cel i okres użytkowania e-książek. E-książki zapewniają łatwy i szybki dostęp do ich zawartości. Wyniki badań wykazują, że bardzo często użytkowane były e-książki wydawnictwa Springer, Taylor & Francis. Często wykorzystywano także źródła informacji o e-bookach. Brak świadomości wraz z kosztami akwizycji zdają się utrudniać korzystanie z e-książek.

    In the last decade, far-reaching changes in the way of using the Internet, which as a result of range, multimedia and interactivity plays bigger and bigger role in interpersonal communication, could be observed. These changes are accompanied by development of geo-information services which are usually associated with geo-visualization understood as presentation of geographic information on the maps. Attainability of computer techniques which enable creating of network applications activated users who often and often build their own topic services which connect chosen contents with a map base. The aim of the paper is to analyse chosen data sources as well as techniques and computer tools which can be used to create topic maps according to the conception “user-creator” (produser), “user-producer” (produsage). The project of a topic map presenting chosen touristic object and also nature protection forms localized in the area of Grybów commune (Małopolska, nowosądecki district) was presented in the article. In conclusion, it was revealed that the created map is elastic in edition and development and its every element is possible to be modified. However, it has got some limitations. Its modification needs expert knowledge and access to a server and published data can be questionable for users.

    The results of the Polish edition of the World Internet Project 2011 indicate gender differences both in the intensity of Internet usage and the ways in which it is used. Women spend less time online, have shorter experience online, and express less openness towards online relationships or services. The main gender difference in the kinds of activities undertaken online concerns entertainment – men engage much more often in activities such as playing games, listening to music or the radio, watching films, or looking for humorous content than women do. Having said that, it should be noted that the differences are not dramatic, indicating the small size of the “gender gap” among Polish Internet users.

    W artykule przedstawiono charakterystykę działalności dydaktycznej Katedry Budowy Mostów i Tuneli Politechniki Krakowskiej w obszarze komunikacyjnego budownictwa podziemnego. Działalność ta została opisana na tle historycznych przemian strukturalnych Katedry Budowy Mostów i Tuneli od początku istnienia Politechniki Krakowskiej, tzn. od 1945 roku. Charakterystyka aktywności dydaktycznej obejmuje: tematykę i rodzaje zajęć, prace dyplomowe, wycieczki dydaktyczne, konferencje naukowo-dydaktyczne, wykorzystywane zasoby internetowe, przygotowane skrypty i wydawnictwa. Zwrócono uwagę na ciągłe podejmowanie wysiłków w kierunku profilowania problematyki dydaktycznej na aktualne potrzeby rynku inwestycyjnego w Polsce. Podkreślono potrzebę ustawicznego kształcenia w kontekście szybkiego rozwoju przedmiotowej dyscypliny. Wieloletnie wysiłki dydaktyczne Katedry w obszarze komunikacyjnego budownictwa podziemnego pozytywnie weryfikują osiągnięcia absolwentów działających zarówno w kraju jak i za granicą.
    In this paper a characteristic of didactic activity of the Chair of Bridge and Tunnel Construction in the Cracow University of Technology in the field of transport underground construction is given. This activity has been described in the context of the history of the development of the Chair since the very beginning of CUT, it is since the year 1945. The characteristic includes: subjects and organizational framework of student lectures and classes, diploma works, didactic excursions, conferences devoted to didactic, usage of Internet for teaching purposes, edited lecture notes and other editorials. Emphasis is put on continuous efforts toward harmonizing the didactic process with needs of investment and construction marked in Poland. Also the need for permanent education resulting from rapid development of the underground construction industry is underlined. Long term didactic work of the Chair is positively verified by professional achievements of many Chair absolvents being active in Poland as well as abroad.
