    The article aims to show the key determinants of the development of early internationalizing companies (EICs). The early and quick internationalization of companies is an increasingly common trend that has been the subject of numerous research projects in many countries. It is an important area of studies focusing on the mechanisms of companies’ internationalization. The author critically analyzes some of the most significant international scientific papers of the last few years, with a special focus on the external and internal determinants of internationalization of EICs, the industries where EICs operate (both hi-tech and traditional) as well as these companies’ strategies in the area of foreign market entry and marketing. The typical characteristics of EICs are compared in the article with those of traditionally internationalized firms. The success factors of EICs in international markets have also been identified on the basis of research in this area. Finally, major threats to the development of EICs and the strengths of these firms are presented.

    The article aims to review and evaluate research reports-mainly publications in English-on businesses referred to as early internationalizing firms, with a special focus on terminology used by various authors with regard to such firms. Duliniec critically reviews several dozen research papers that have been published in this area over the past two decades with the view of identifying the most common terms and definitions of early internationalizing firms. The process of early and quick internationalization of companies has been increasingly observed in the modern world, according to the author, and its importance in explaining the mechanisms of the firms’ internationalization has been growing. Early internationalizing firms are an important field of research on the internationalization of companies in many countries. In Poland, research in this area has been scarce so far, Duliniec says. The analysis conducted by the author shows that terminology used in the field is far from uniform, while the definitions and research conclusions are highly diversified. Three terms are most often used in research reports with regard to the analyzed type of companies: new international ventures, born globals, and early internationalizing firms, the author notes. Early internationalizing firms are the widest term used in this case, Duliniec says, bringing together the views of various authors.

    Opis:
    The article discusses selected theoretical approaches to early internationalizing companies (EIC). These approaches deal with the key internal and external determinants of the early and quick internationalization of small and medium-sized companies. Most of the models discussed by the author refer to the concept of international entrepreneurship. The personal characteristics of the founder/first owner of a company are a key factor in the models discussed, the author says. The author uses descriptive and comparative methods in the article. The models presented include six major theoretical approaches to early internationalizing companies, developed in economically advanced countries by Madsen and Servais; Rasmussan, Madsen and Evangelista; Rialp, Rialp and Knight; Mainela, Pernu and Puhakka; Andersson; and Evers. There is also a seventh approach developed by two Polish authors, Cieślik and Kaciak, who highlight the links between the early internationalization of companies and international entrepreneurship as well as economic reforms in postcommunist countries in Central and Eastern Europe. The article also aims to predict future directions of research into EIC.
    Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie i omówienie najważniejszych podejść teoretycznych (modeli) wyjaśniających zjawisko przedsiębiorstw wcześnie umiędzynarodowionych (PWU). Przedstawiają one główne determinanty, wewnętrzne i zewnętrzne, wczesnej i szybkiej internacjonalizacji małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw. Modele zawierają mniej czy bardziej bezpośrednie odniesienia do koncepcji przedsiębiorczości międzynarodowej. Szczególnie istotne znaczenie mają w większości cechy założycieli/pierwszych właścicieli omawianych przedsiębiorstw. Zastosowano podejście opisowe i porównawcze. Przedstawiono sześć modeli pochodzących od autorów z krajów wysoko rozwiniętych, na które często powołują się badacze piszący o PWU. Są to modele opracowane przez: Madsena i Servaisa; Rasmussana, Madsena i Evangelistę; Rialpa, Rialpa i Knighta; Mainelę, Pernu i Puhakkę, Anderssona; Evers. W artykule zaprezentowano także model polskich autorów, Cieślika i Kąciaka, odnoszący się do związków między transformacją systemową (głównie w krajach Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej), przedsiębiorczością międzynarodową i zakładaniem PWU. Wskazano na najważniejsze elementy modeli oraz dalsze badania, dla których przedstawione modele mogą się stać punktem wyjścia. Ponadto przedstawiono przewidywane kierunki dalszych badań nad PWU, które mogłyby stanowić kolejne przyczynki do wiedzy na ich temat.

    O artigo pretende analisar o suporte dado pela diplomacia estatal brasileira à internacionalização das construtoras do país durante o período da ditadura empresarial-militar instalada com o golpe de 1964. Para tal usamos como fontes revistas especializadas do período, imprensa, memórias de empresários e diplomatas, discursos e documentos oficiais. Analisamos em distintas seções o processo de internacionalização das construtoras durante a ditadura brasileira, a atuação do Ministério de Relações Exteriores ao longo do regime e o papel da diplomacia em favor da atuação das empreiteiras brasileiras no exterior. Concluímos que durante o regime o Itamaraty sofreu aperfeiçoamentos no sentido de impulsionar e dar suporte à atuação de empresas brasileiras exportadoras e que atuavam fora do país, o que fez parte de um processo mais amplo de modernização e atualização do Estado capitalista brasileiro, que forjou o advento de uma ordem empresarial no país no período.
    The article intends to analyze the support given by Brazilian state diplomacy to the internationalization of the country's construction companies during the period of the business-military dictatorship installed with the 1964 coup. To this end, we used specialized magazines of the period, press, memoirs of businessmen and diplomats, speeches and official documents as sources. We analyzed in different sections the process of internationalization of construction companies during the Brazilian dictatorship, the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the regime and the role of diplomacy in favor of the performance of Brazilian contractors abroad. We concluded that during the regime, Itamaraty underwent improvements in order to boost and support the performance of Brazilian exporting companies that operated outside the country, which was part of a broader process of modernization and updating of the Brazilian capitalist state, which forged the advent of a business order in the country in the period.
