Opis:
The increasingly competitive nature of maritime freight transport has stimulated carriers to improve efficiency and lower costs. The industry has gradually matured, and it has recently become the case that the larger a carrier is, the more competitive advantage it has. Therefore, carriers form strategic alliances to collaborate with each other so that they can reduce their operational costs due to economies of scale. At the same time, such alliances allow carriers to improve the quality of their service by increasing their network coverage. Although carriers collaborate to improve their operational efficiency, they compete with each other simultaneously. In other words, a game of coopetition among carriers has developed in international maritime freight transport in recent years. In this study, we propose a theoretical framework for characterizing coopetition in international maritime shipping and investigating how carriers can manage their business models. Empirical studies, together with salient analytical results, are presented and discussed.

Subsequently, safeguarding the marine climate. As the absence of preparing and failure influence the climate, whether while moving boats to moor in ports or during cruising, as well as stacking and dumping activities in ports. Besides, momentum sailors are prepared to know how to function and work all advanced navigational hardware that made the excursion adrift smoother, more secure and safer. Positive aspects on the climate to be viable with current offices and robotization, the boat today has many high-level route hardware frameworks that give exact information to the journey, consequently keeping away from a large number of the negatives that happened in past times.

The main research issue refers to the identification and analysis of the key features and trends revealed on the global maritime container transport market in the years 2020-2022, as well as its general assessment in terms of the effects that such a highly concentrated market's supply side can cause for shippers and container shipping operators. The research is aimed at determining the main premises and factors stimulating the consolidation processes of the container shipping operators and ongoing market vertical and horizontal integration, as well as assessing the risks and effects resulting from maintaining the current system of regulation of this oligopolistic market. While conducting this research, the following methods were applied: factor analysis (FA), market analysis (MA) based on statistical data concerning the supply side, as well as desk research (DR), i.e. in-depth analysis of many reports, opinions, bulletins and data issued by international maritime organisations as well as research institutes. The obtained research results indicate that:1. the very advanced consolidation processes among the leading container shipping operators and, consequently, further integration of the container market, radically changes the balance of power in favour of shipping operators and creates the potential to generate serious disruptions in this market and other links in the global supply chains, 2/ regulatory antitrust authorities need to take appropriate regulatory action to limit their market power via legal measures regarding competition.

Opis:
Climate change is predicted to cause increases in sea surface temperature (SST), as well as decreases in sea-ice cover, wind and current velocities. These changes will have a marked effect on iceberg melting in the shipping lanes off Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Icebergs that today can cross from northern Labrador to Newfoundland without melting will in the future have to be much larger to survive the transit. For example, icebergs at N Labrador in December of 2016 that are smaller than 156 m will melt before reaching 48N, but in year 2100 the length increases to 228 m. In addition, if future iceberg size distributions off Labrador are the same as today, icebergs will experience roughly 50% reductions in numbers in the NW Atlantic shipping lanes by year 2100. The increased melting rates are due to, in order of importance, increased sea-surface temperatures (responsible for 66% of the increase in the minimum transit size), decreasing current velocities (31%), and decreasing sea-ice cover (3%). Decreasing sea-ice tends to increase wave heights as well as accelerate the effects of wave erosion; however, for the areas studied the wave height is predicted to decrease moderately in year 2100, by a maximum of about 10% in December.

Opis:
Throughout the history of Europe and the world, shipping routes have determined the develop¬ment of many civilisations, since it was along them that settlements and commerce developed, goods and people were transported, and later, industry was located. Currently, shipping routes are an important element in inland transport corridors. The European Union puts particular emphasis on the development of inland and rail transport to balance road transport, which is drastically expanding. Development of inland waterway transport routes in Poland has allies in intensely developing sea ports. The allies of the lower Vistula (dolna Wisła) are the ports in Gdańsk and Gdynia, for which construction of inland ports up-country is an opportunity to increase the trans-shipment capacity. Poland uses the potential of international inland waterways poorly when compared to other European Union countries, which results for instance from the bad technical condition of river engineering structures and from years of neglect in water management. The situation is further amplified by the lack of consistent laws regarding inland navigation and water management, as the responsibility for those issues is shared by several ministries, the institutions they are in charge of and local governments. Governments of the voivodeships situated along the planned international waterways E40 between Warsaw and Gdańsk (Mazowieckie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Pomorskie voivodeships) and E70 (Lubuskie, Wielkopolskie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Warmińsko-Mazurskie, Pomorskie voivodeships) can see both the transport and the tourism potential of Polish waterways. They have been working for many years to restore the rightful role of rivers and to bring about economic development using the advantages they offer.
W historii Europy i świata szlaki żeglugowe stanowiły o rozwoju wielu cywilizacji, gdyż to właśnie wzdłuż nich rozwijało się osadnictwo i handel, prowadzono transport towarów i osób, a następnie lokalizowano przemysł.

International transport is a subject to many regulatory measures worked out by governments, international organisations (e.g. IMO, ILO, EU), regional institutions and public entities. As a result, such regulatory mechanism, which is getting throughout international, strongly affects the real sphere of maritime transport as well as its productivity and efficiency. Maritime transport operators have to apply to many new standards and rules set by international public regulators aimed mainly at improving and enhancing safety and security at sea. It is sometimes very painful process in terms of costs and time but inevitable to survive in the highly competitive environment. The author analyses the nowadays existing regulatory mechanism in maritime transport and tries to evaluate it in terms of its impact on effectiveness of maritime transport processes.

Current maritime transportation and shipping is characterized by rapid technological developments effecting the basic concepts of operating ships and even changing traditional paradigms of controlling ships. The e-Navigation concept of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) specifically aims at more comprehensive and reliable support of the human operators on-board and ashore. However, autonomous unmanned ships remote controlled or even autonomously navigating are expected to come soon. In this paper, selected operational aspects of maritime traffic merging conventional and unmanned remote controlled ships in coastal areas are discussed. Furthermore, some preliminary results of experimental simulation studies into a future scenario of maritime traffic are presented and preliminary conclusions in respect to job profiling and training requirements are discussed.

Opis:
Zrównoważona żegluga (sustainable shipping) jest promowanym w ramach Międzynarodowej Organizacji Morskiej (IMO) kierunkiem rozwoju instrumentów prawnych międzynarodowego prawa morskiego, wynikającym z trzech praktycznych wymogów stawianych żegludze morskiej: „żadnych wypadków, żadnych zanieczyszczeń oraz obsługa na czas” (no casualties, no pollution and service on time).
Sustainable shipping is a direction for the development of international maritime law legal instruments promoted within the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and resulting from three practical requirements for shipping: “no casualties, no pollution and service on time”. The IMO recognized that the global shipping industry operating within the international regulatory framework is heading towards a “sustainable future”, which requires IMO to further develop its legal instruments, including technical and operational measures to deal with global problems. The main focus is on: reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships; reducing the sulfur content of marine fuel; ballast water control and management; the prevention, reduction and control of marine pollution, including plastic pollution, and the effective protection of particularly sensitive marine and coastal ecosystems; as well as improving transport efficiency through electronic information exchange, digitization in shipping and increasing the participation of women in the maritime community. The aim of this paper is to present sustainable shipping as a direction for development of legal instruments of international maritime law, based on the principle of prevention and the obligation to protect and preserve the marine environment, well-established in the law of the sea.
