Opis:: The Polish school is constantly changing, which is associated with rapid economic and political changes. We observe very intense population movements taking the form of mass migrations. For these reasons, in the paper, we present the essence of the borderland and its typology, the formation of the intercultural identity of a person from the borderland. It is on the border of cultures that children going to school exchange information, learn about other customs, values, learn respect and tolerance. It depends to a large extent on the teacher/educator, who should build a good atmosphere of cooperation between the educational team of the multicultural borderland. The subject of interpretive research was the ways of defining the work of teachers in grades I–III of the multicultural borderland, indicating the tasks carried out at that time, the meanings given to them by teachers of grades I–III in the Lubuskie Province using non-standardised interviews. The research showed a positive picture of the situation. The respondents’ statements indicated a great need to introduce intercultural education to the school reality.
Polska szkoła ulega ciągłym zmianom, co związane jest z gwałtownymi przemianami gospodarczo-ustrojowymi. Obserwujemy bardzo intensywny ruchy ludności przybierający formy masowych migracji. Z tych względów w tekście przedstawiamy istotę pogranicza i jego typologię, kształtowanie się tożsamości międzykulturowej człowieka z pogranicza. To właśnie na pograniczu kultur dzieci chodząc do szkoły, w toku przyjaznej atmosfery i dialogu, wymieniają się informacjami, poznają inne zwyczaje, wartości, uczą się szacunku i tolerancji. Niniejsze w dużym stopniu zależy to od nauczyciela/wychowawcy, który powinien budować dobrą atmosferę współpracy zespołu wychowawczego pogranicza wielokulturowego, dbając o dobrostan uczniów. Przedmiotem badań o charakterze jakościowym uczyniono sposoby definiowania pracy nauczycielek w klasach I–III pogranicza wielokulturowego, wskazywania zadań realizowanych w tym czasie, znaczenia im nadawane przez nauczycielki klas I–III województwa lubuskiego z wykorzystaniem niestandaryzowanych wywiadów. Przeprowadzone badania ukazały pozytywny obraz sytuacji, pozytywny dobrostan uczniów. Wypowiedzi badanych jednoznacznie wykazały dużą potrzebę wprowadzenia edukacji międzykulturowej do rzeczywistości szkolnej.

Opis:: Due to the emergence of new social problems resulting from weakening pro-integration moods regarding culturally, ethnically, or religiously diverse societies, the Acting in Context by Training the Trainers in Social Empowerment (ACTTE) project was prepared and implemented. The Polish National Agency of Academic Exchange (NAWA) financed the project as part of the International Academic Partnerships program. The project goals were: 1) shaping competencies/skills in the field of DPA (Developing the Power to Act) in organized training participants (NGO employees and academic teachers), 2) developing tools for intervention work based on the concept of Empowerment. Within the training, the research was carried out based on the action research methodology and the use of scaling and uncategorized interview. The article presents the excerpt of the research, which was aimed at determining the changes in the competencies related to the use of the DPA approach in the project’s participants, as well as their subjective understanding of the DPA. The presented research results show the legitimacy of the project implementation by partner institutions, which are universities and non-governmental organizations. The competences and skills acquired by the project participants can be used in academic and environmental work.

Opis:: The article deals with the issues of the role of multicultural/intercultural education in ensuring the cultural rights of the bearers of various traditions in the process of their interaction in an ethnically diverse human environment. The hypothesis of the publication is the following: multicultural/intercultural education forms (builds) a platform for the realization of cultural rights of representatives of various ethnic communities in the process of their interaction, preventing the violation of their rights. Clarifying the content of the concepts of multicultural education and intercultural education begins with exposing the content of the concepts of multiculturalism and interculturalism. The content of the concept of ethnic interaction as well as the structure of this phenomenon is presented. The etymology of multicultural/intercultural education and its contemporary value is discussed. The author concludes that the practice of multicultural/intercultural education in North American and European countries has proven its viability in forming a platform for ensuring equal opportunities for the realization of the cultural rights of the bearers of various ethnocultural traditions and ways of life, particularly in the educational process. It opens up opportunities for equal ethnic interaction at the level of minority groups and at the level of minorities and the majority – the mainstream of the country of residence – and helps to avoid violations of their rights thanks the exclusion of prejudices, getting to know each other better. As a result, opportunities for interaction in the plane of psychological perception replace the paradigm of opposition “we-they (strangers)” with the paradigm of compromise “we-they (others).” The prospects for the development of multicultural/intercultural education for Ukraine are analyzed in the context of conflict-free interethnic interaction.
Artykuł porusza kwestie roli edukacji wielokulturowej/międzykulturowej w zapewnieniu praw kulturowych nosicieli różnych tradycji w procesie ich interakcji w etnicznie zróżnicowanym środowisku ludzkim. Hipoteza publikacji jest następująca: edukacja wielokulturowa/międzykulturowa tworzy (buduje) platformę dla realizacji praw kulturowych przedstawicieli różnych społeczności etnicznych w procesie ich interakcji, zapobiegając naruszaniu ich praw. Wyjaśnienie treści pojęć „edukacja wielokulturowa” i „edukacja międzykulturowa” rozpoczyna się od ujawnienia zawartości pojęć „wielokulturowość” i „międzykulturowość”. Przedstawiono treść pojęcia „interakcji etnicznej” oraz strukturę tego zjawiska. Omówiono etymologię edukacji wielokulturowej/międzykulturowej i jej współczesną wartość. Autor stwierdza, że praktyka edukacji wielokulturowej/międzykulturowej w krajach Ameryki Północnej i Europy dowiodła swojej przydatności w tworzeniu platformy zapewniającej równe szanse realizacji praw kulturowych nosicieli różnych tradycji etnokulturowych i sposobów życia, zwłaszcza w procesie edukacyjnym. Otwiera możliwości równych interakcji etnicznych na poziomie grup mniejszościowych oraz na poziomie mniejszości i większości – głównego nurtu kraju zamieszkania – i pomaga uniknąć naruszeń ich praw dzięki wykluczeniu uprzedzeń i lepszemu poznaniu się. W rezultacie możliwości interakcji na płaszczyźnie percepcji psychologicznej zastępują paradygmat opozycji „my-oni (obcy)” paradygmatem kompromisu „my-oni (inni)”. Perspektywy rozwoju edukacji wielokulturowej/międzykulturowej na Ukrainie są analizowane w kontekście bezkonfliktowej interakcji międzyetnicznej.

Opis:: Global cultural exchange is a well-known, boundless phenomenon. Therefore, it is fundamental for countries to promote mutual understanding and tolerance of cultural diversity, to prevent stigmatization and social hermetization from migrant backgrounds, and to foster social inclusion, thus fulfilling the assumptions of sustainable development. Polish society is considered to be relatively homogenous in terms of culture, however, the increasing influx of immigrants, especially from Eastern Europe, poses a new challenge for its national schooling system and multicultural education. That is why the aim of the article was to verify the state of preparation of Polish schools for multicultural education, mutual attitudes of the participants of the educational process, and the relationships between them, as well as to indicate dependency between parents, students, and teachers. The article presents the results of quantitative research carried out in a group of early childhood education teachers from border regions. The results of the conducted research showed the state of intercultural education in Polish schools before the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine. The study is barely the attempt of monitoring the condition of intercultural education, especially in the current “new multicultural reality” in Polish schools.

Opis:: Cel artykułu stanowi podjęcie refleksji nad jednym z aspektów gościnności – zagadnieniem otwartości społeczeństwa na reprezentantów innych kultur. Gościnność stanowi, zgodnie z powszechnymi przekonaniami oraz w opinii badaczy polskich tradycji, jedną z podstawowych właściwości kultury polskiej. Równocześnie jednak przypisuje się jej dystans wobec innych, nieufność, niekiedy wręcz ksenofobię. Przedmiot analizy zawartej w artykule stanowią współczesne polskie reportaże, które pokazują Polskę jako kraj niegościnny. Celem analizy nie jest idea potraktowania reportaży jako wiarygodnych źródeł wiedzy na temat polskiej kultury, a namysł nad elementami perswazyjnymi obecnymi w opowieści o trudnościach w międzykulturowym komunikowaniu. Przedmiot analizy stanowią teksty zawarte w dwóch książkach – w Królu kebabów Marty Mazuś oraz w tomie zbiorowym o tytule Obrażenia. Pobici z Polską (autorstwa Urszuli Jabłońskiej, Magdaleny Kinińskiej, Kai Puto, Małgorzaty Rejmer, Ziemowita Szczerka, Macieja Wasielewskiego, Mirosława Wlekłego, Agnieszki Wójcińskiej). Autorka artykułu wskazuje na elementy ksenofobii możliwe do wydobycia z samych przytoczonych historii oraz na ujawniające się w narracji subiektywne punkty widzenia podmiotów relacjonujących i interpretujących przywoływane zdarzenia.
The purpose of the article is to reflect on one aspect of hospitality – the issue of openness of society to representatives of other cultures. According to popular beliefs and in the opinion of researchers of Polish traditions, hospitality is one of the fundamental characteristics of Polish culture. At the same time, however, it is also attributed to distance from others, distrust, and sometimes even xenophobia. The subject of the article’s analysis is contemporary Polish reportages showing Poland as an unfriendly country. The purpose of the study is not to treat reportages as credible sources of knowledge about Polish culture but to reflect on persuasive elements present in the story of difficulties in intercultural communication. The subject of the analysis is the texts contained in two books – the King of Kebabs by Marta Mazuś and the collective volume entitled Damage. Beaten with Poland (by Urszula Jabłońska, Magdalena Kinińska, Kai Puto, Małgorzata Rejmer, Ziemowit Szczerek, Maciej Wasielewski, Mirosław Wlekły, Agnieszka Wójcińska). The article’s author points to the elements of xenophobia that can be extracted from the stories cited and the subjective points of view of subjects reporting and interpreting the events revealed in the narrative.

W recenzowanej publikacji znalazło się określenie zarówno aktualnego odniesienia do praw wolności religijnej, jak i przyczyn i skutków łamania tych praw, nie tylko przez jednostki, lecz także reprezentantów różnych ruchów społecznych czy nawet instytucji państwowych. Publikacja jest próbą wypracowania koncepcji racjonalnych usprawnień w kontekście wolności religijnej i zakazu dyskryminacji wyrażania religijnych przekonań.
The publication is a collective monograph, which was created in connection with the growing wave of religious persecution, especially of Christians, not only around the world but also in Europe, including Poland. The authors of the individual chapters of the monograph aim to clearly articulate religious rights, the need to respect them, and point to their sources. The reviewed publication includes a definition of the current reference to the rights of religious freedom, as well as the causes and consequences of violations of these rights, not only by individuals, but also by representatives of various social movements or even state institutions. The publication is an attempt to develop the concept of reasonable accommodation in the context of religious freedom and the prohibition of discrimination against the expression of religious beliefs.

Opis:: The Scout and Polish Scouting movement is characterized by the possibility of meeting and cooperation of people from different backgrounds and cultures. A natural thing for this social movement is daily confrontation with Otherness/ Alienness in conditions of cultural diversity and undertaking various forms of educational activity based on the idea of interculturalism. The study presents some partial results of a research project devoted to the content referring to the idea of interculturalism and education in the conditions of cultural diversity, present in the program studies of the scouting movement. These studies contribute to the historical trend of intercultural pedagogy and the history of education in the context of ideological assumptions and activities of children and youth organizations. The article contains a description of the applied conceptual categories and the characteristics of the precursors and the contemporary scouting movement. In a chronological order, it presents a selection of examples of the content of scouting program studies that are related to the idea of interculturalism and intercultural education.
Ruch skautowy i harcerski charakteryzuje możliwość spotkania i współpracy osób wywodzących się z różnych środowisk i kultur. Naturalną rzeczą jest w nim codzienna konfrontacja z Innością/Obcością w warunkach zróżnicowania kulturowego oraz podejmowanie różnych form aktywności edukacyjnej opartej na idei międzykulturowości. Od chwili powstania swej organizacji skauci i harcerze realizowali zadania wpisujące się we współczesne rozumienie edukacji międzykulturowej, oparte na ogólnych zasadach Prawa skautowego, które zakładają szacunek do innych i współpracę z nimi w duchu braterstwa, solidarności i tolerancji. W komunikacie z badań zostały przedstawione cząstkowe wyniki realizacji projektu badawczego poświęconego treściom nawiązującym do idei międzykulturowości oraz edukacji w warunkach zróżnicowania kulturowego, występującym w opracowaniach programowych ruchu skautowego i harcerskiego. Badania te stanowią przyczynek do historycznego nurtu pedagogiki międzykulturowej oraz historii wychowania w kontekście założeń ideowych i działalności organizacji dzieci i młodzieży. Artykuł zawiera opis wykorzystanych kategorii pojęciowych, charakterystykę prekursorów oraz współczesnego ruchu skautowego i harcerskiego. W układzie chronologicznym został w nim przedstawiony wybór przykładów treści skautowych i harcerskich opracowań programowych, które wiążą się z ideą międzykulturowości i edukacji międzykulturowej.

Opis:: This study comprises an analysis of the school education system in the context of using modern technologies. Its main goal is to present the benefits and limitations associated with the implementation of modern technologies in the school environment. Two fundamental questions will be asked: 1) What are the effects of using new technologies in education, including intercultural education? 2) Can modern technologies pave the way for implementing the ideal of education as an activity aimed primarily at shaping an individual capable of effective and creative adaptation to the social reality in which otherness, including cultural otherness, is common? The authors indicate the types of implemented technologies and assess their impact on adapting students to the extracurricular reality. Referring to the source data and postulates of the contemporary pedagogical and sociological thought, the authors highlight the topicality of the message requiring from the school the activation and development of students’ competencies that will be effectively and creatively implemented in their future professional and social life. It should also be noted that education takes place in cyberspace as well, especially when it is related to the use of modern technologies, which is why great importance should be drawn to cybersecurity.

Opis:: The article is an attempt to explain the meaning of the following terms: multiculturalism, interculturalism, transculturality in the context of the development of axiological competences by young people. The author shares his extensive experience in the implementation of local and international educational projects as part of the School of Dialogue – a program, thanks to which students from Murowana Goślina discovered the Jewish past of their town and developed their own tolerance. Artykuł jest próbą ukazania zakresu znaczeniowego następujących pojęć: wielokulturowość, międzykulturowość, transkulturowość w kontekście rozwijania przez młodych ludzi kompetencji aksjologicznych. Autor tekstu dzieli się bogatym doświadczeniem w realizacji projektów edukacyjnych o charakterze lokalnym oraz międzynarodowym w ramach Szkoły Dialogu – programu, dzięki któremu uczniowie z Murowanej Gośliny odkrywali żydowską przeszłość swojego miasta oraz rozwijali własną tolerancję. Artykuł przywołuje koncepcję dziesięciu zasad dialogu, których wcielanie w życie jest szansą wzmacniania wśród uczniów polskiej szkoły postaw opartych na szacunku wobec inności oraz akceptacji różnorodności.

Opis:: In this article, I discuss the issues of mixed marriages, referring to research conducted by Polish sociologists, psychologists and educators. On this basis, I try to show possible areas of conflict in this type of relationships, various strategies for working out compromises as well as various relations with the social microstructure. I emphasise problems related to bringing up children in a bi-cultural family environment, in particular aspects of bi-religious home education. My intention is also to identify potential areas of intercultural enrichment and the emergence of new cultural capital in mixed families. I also reflect on PolishJewish marriages by recalling the biography of a representative of the third generation of the Holocaust survivors, married to a Catholic, who has introduced, together with her husband, a model of dualistic education. The research was based on the biographical method, unstructured/indepth interviews. The article presents one of the elements of broader research, which focused on the construction of the socio-cultural identity of the narrators.

Opis:: Globalization is a process that has brought many changes in recent decades. Improvement and further development of economic aspects meant that people were offered new opportunities, and this outside the country. It is not only the existing infrastructure that is responsible for the fact that the world is increasingly becoming a multicultural world. Despite many changes, differences between cultures in terms of their attitudes and beliefs, but also the meaning and interpretation of everyday life, are still visible. Migration is closely related to labor policy. If legal requirements allow, the goal of many migrants is to earn money abroad. Over 100 nations live and work in Germany (Visser / de Jong 2002, p. 110). Germany is a multicultural country. Due to the growing number of elderly people, caring for them must adapt to a multicultural clientele. Interculturalism is of great importance not only for care but also for society as a whole. Multicultural work teams are and will continue to be an increasingly common form of work in Germany (Barth, 2000). Not only more and more care recipients, but also more and more carers come from other countries and cultures. For this reason, practice and a change of approach are needed to deal with this topic in a delicate and structured way.
Globalizacja to proces, który w ostatnich dziesięcioleciach przyniósł wiele zmian. Poprawa i dalszy rozwój aspektów ekonomicznych spowodowały, że ludziom zaoferowano nowe możliwości i to poza granicami państwa. Nie tylko istniejąca infrastruktura odpowiada za to, że świat w coraz większym stopniu staje się światem wielokulturowym. Mimo wielu zmian różnice między kulturami w zakresie ich podejścia i przekonań, ale także znaczenia i interpretacji życia codziennego, nadal są widoczne. Migracja jest ściśle związana z polityką pracy. Jeśli pozwalają na to wymogi prawne, celem wielu migrantów jest zarabianie pieniędzy poza granicami ojczyzny. Na terenie Niemiec żyje i pracuje ponad 100 różnych narodów (Visser, de Jong 2002, s. 110). Niemcy to kraj wielokulturowy. Ze względu na rosnącą liczbę osób starszych opieka nad nimi musi dostosować się do wielokulturowej klienteli. Międzykulturowość ma ogromne znaczenie nie tylko dla opieki, ale także dla całego społeczeństwa. Wielokulturowe zespoły robocze są i będą w przyszłości powszechną formą pracy na terenie Niemiec (Barth, 2000). Nie tylko coraz więcej odbiorców opieki, ale także opiekunów pochodzi z innych krajów i innych kultur. Z tego powodu potrzebna jest praktyka i zmiana podejścia, aby sprostać wyzwaniom w delikatny i uporządkowany sposób.

Opis:: The purpose of this paper was to determine how much the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic affected economic factors globally in the intercultural environment. The subject of the research refers to the analysis of the impact of the crisis on economic factors (foreign trade, GDP, GNP) of selected countries (Italy, Germany, Russia, China, and Croatia). In addition, special attention was given to the intercultural characteristics of the observed countries (intercultural communication, intercultural competence, intercultural sensitivity and intercultural conflicts). The content analysis as a qualitative method examined publicly available official documents related to the factors and characteristics observed. The contribution of the paper refers to the analysis of the situation of the observed countries by connecting the key elements needed for further action.
Celem artykułu jest określenie, w jakim stopniu kryzys wywołany pandemią COVID-19 wpłynął na czynniki ekonomiczne w skali globalnej w środowisku międzykulturowym. Przedmiotem badań jest analiza wpływu kryzysu na czynniki gospodarcze (handel zagraniczny, PKB, PNB) wybranych losowo krajów (Włochy, Niemcy, Rosja, Chiny, Chorwacja). Ponadto szczególną uwagę zwrócono na cechy międzykulturowe obserwowanych krajów (komunikacja międzykulturowa, kompetencje międzykulturowe, wrażliwość międzykulturowa i konflikty międzykulturowe). Analiza treści jako metoda jakościowa obejmowała analizę publicznie dostępnych dokumentów urzędowych pod kątem zaobserwowanych czynników i cech. Wkład artykułu dotyczy analizy sytuacji obserwowanych krajów poprzez powiązanie kluczowych elementów potrzebnych do dalszych działań.

In the article, I propose a conception of aesthetics that undermines the dogmatic idea of a pure discipline exempt from moral evaluation. This project is motivated by cross-cultural research. The article is dedicated to the institutional forms introduced by the Council of Europe in the Intercultural Cities Programme (ICC). It is aimed at responding to the challenges of the culturally diverse landscape of contemporary cities, both in Europe and on other continents. The objective of this article is to present and critically analyze the instruments of the ICC, while maintaining ideological neutrality and considering the values outlined by the Council of Europe and the expected results.
