The article deals with the phenomenon of intercultural communication. Presented are the results of the survey method aimed at analysing the level of formation of intercultural competence of Ukrainian VSPU students living abroad. Differences and similarities in the students’ intercultural communication experience have been revealed by comparison. The ranking method was used to classify the obtained data when analysing the students’ life experiences abroad. The research results were presented graphically in charts and tables using descriptive statistics.

The article discusses some basic notions related to intercultural foreign language teaching. These include: intercultural communication competence, intercultural teaching, and intercultural training. The article also presents the results of research allowing an overview of the status quo of interculturality from the perspective of Polish teachers of the German language. The research is of a very general nature as it was supposed to counterbalance numerous operationally detailed surveys and provide data on to what extent the teachers understand interculturality as a general guideline in teaching German as a foreign language.

The article discusses the processes of self-evaluation about intercultural communication competency of the individual. On the basis of gathered quantitative data, the author discusses a psychological level of understanding cultural difference and contextual influences in this regard. Three main perspectives were established when discussing intercultural communication competency of the individual. First, it is a social standard of multiculturalism. That perspective shows openness of individuals toward cultural plurality in the public life. Second is constructing community in the perspective of cultural plurality, and third is a sphere of skills needed for effective communication between individuals and groups when cultural difference is engaged.

Opis:
The text examines processes of intercultural communication applying the interactionist approach. Following the Ricoeur’s concept of discourse and the Berger’s expectation states theory, the most significant aspect of the above mentioned communication are negotiations of reality aiming to define the meaning and course of a situation and interaction. Both the dynamics and contents of social actors’ expectation result from their culturally determined perception and communication codes as well as their personal features (such as intercultural experience, motivational factors, social competences and so on). A significant role has to be ascribed, however, to the specificity of social and physical space of communication creating primary conditions for an interaction. The proposed thesis is being discussed in the context of several cases of intercultural communication placed in various kinds of social spaces.

The article focuses on intercultural communication, which creates a passage from a multicultural environment towards social integration and intercultural relations. The author introduces the topic by short characteristics of changes in the modern world, determined by social mobility and multiculturalism. The article presents then some chosen aspects of social integration of migrants seen as bilateral process which requires the development of intercultural competences of both migrants’ and the receiving community. The author further describes intercultural communication and stresses its importance for education and social development. Finally, some factors conditioning the acquisition of intercultural competence with reference to Gordon Allport’s contact hypothesis and informational influences are presented along with highlighting the importance of empathy.

The coexistence of different nations, races i.e. cultures in the same social space that could be a country, a village or even a company is already a fact. Nowadays, not taking into account the tools of intercultural communication may result in damaging every communicative act. We believe that there is a necessity for revising and explaining the concepts related to the subject of intercultural communication from the perspective of foreign language teaching. In this article we will discuss such concepts as: interculturalism, transculturation, acculturation, integration, identity, etc. We will also look into the origin of intercultural communication. All these reflections will bring us closer to the intercultural competence which, in our opinion, students of foreign languages, i.e. intercultural speakers, should possess. In conclusion, we present the main objectives of the Common Frame of Reference for the Languages of the Council of Europe (2002) with regard to intercultural education.

The presented diagnostic study concerning intercultural competence was carried out in the pedagogical context of intercultural education. The research place was chosen purposively: it resulted from the intercultural character of Białystok. In the interwar period that the study refers to, the biggest national groups in the town were Poles and Jews. There were also Belarusians, Russians, Germans and Tatars. As part of the analysis of intercultural competence of students from Poland and Israel I focused on the respondents’ declarations concerning their knowledge of the social structure of pre-war Białystok. Then, I determined what motivates secondary school students to learn about the past. Developing the competence in the affective/motivational area is of key importance in intercultural communication. Identifying the reasons why secondary school students from Poland and Israel find it worth learning about the history of their ancestors is as important as knowledge of the history of our cultural group and other cultures. It was also important to determine the level of Polish youths’ readiness to communicate with students from Israel, and vice versa. Diagnosing the students’ competence allows educators to plan adequate educational activities aimed at broadening intercultural competence, to strengthen the existing resources, to improve the weak points, and fill in the gaps.

“Before filling in the application form, please read carefully these instructions.” Forms, Intercultural Communication and Transnational Dutch Studies Almost everyone is familiar with various types of formal forms. The language as well as the structure of such texts differ, however, from the standards and rules of every-day communication, which, in consequence, may lead to many problems. Reading the instructions to the form may not always constitute great help or assistance. It is very common that people, who are obliged to fill in the particular form, come across different terms or sophisticated grammatical structures they do not know or at least do not fully comprehend. Let us add to all these problem a notion of a foreign language, and as a consequence, a foreign culture for which the form is prepared, we may be facing an insurmountable barrier – both linguistic and cultural. This is a matter which, nowadays, modern philologists have to face. Particular intercultural problems or diffi culties which may additionally constrain the communication should also be overcome. The first part of the article expounds upon some of the problems that people, who have to fill in the Dutch forms, may encounter. The second part of the article discusses how the official forms may be introduced to the educational curriculum as a didactic means that helps in the process of both language teaching and learning.

The Erasmus Programme was officially introduced in 1987 despite the discontent of some member states which had their own solutions in the field of educational exchange. Instead, the new programme was supposed to achieve certain far- reaching goals which exceeded the interests of particular countries. Achieving the goals of the program involved some difficulties because the process initiated by the student exchange program last several years and should be consistent with changes taking place at that time in the field of education. Furthermore, the overall objectives should harmonize with the interests of individual institutions and, above all, the plans of individual students. This study analysed the experiences of 21 Polish students who spent their Erasmus scholarship in Portugal. While the authors concentrated on the specifics of this given location, it did not constitute their only point of attention. The authors analyzed the students’ expectations, comparing them later with their evaluation of the benefits that emerged from their stay. The main question was whether the effects noted by the students corresponded with the intentions of the creators of the programme. They proved to be quite consistent, with some exceptions such as the opportunity to participate in classes in languages other than Portuguese.

Purpose: The purpose of the article is to present the issue of securities as a form of investment, using the strategy of securities portfolio choice. Methods: In order to make a comprehensive analysis of the strategy of choices modeling of equity portfolio in the context of the integration of financial markets and European integration, the following research instruments were introduced: 1) analysis of the system of securities, 2) institutional approach, 3) systemic approach. In this paper legal-dogmatic method was applied primarily which helped to conduct the analysis of legal standards currently in force and security institutions. Results: The full picture of the investment decision is obtained using valuation models based on sequential valuation or sensitivity analysis. These methods, adapted to analyze portfolios of debt instruments, take into account factors relating to both changes in yield curves, as well as due to the passage of time to maturity (Szafarczyk, 2006). However, they are much more complex. The presented article is only an introduction to the topic.
