This article investigates practices and integration strategies implemented by a European network of universities with regard to refugees and international students, in particular, integration practices at two levels: governance and policies, regarding the institutional initiatives used and their relative success; second, the experience of such policies by international students. Our study revealed that in relation to refugee integration there is an overall lack of organisation, with too little, scattered information with respect to a bottom-up policy. In contrast, with regard to international students the system works fairly well, due to the top-down policy promoted by the EU. We propose that the EU put in place a specific program for refugee integration, such as ERASMUS+, focused on strengthening links with refugee families and schools with a high proportion of refugees.

The recent flow of immigrants to Italy and France, two countries that are the principal destinations after crossing the Mediterranean Sea, has turned out to be a complex and multidimensional problem to manage. Both France and Italy organised a complex method for welcoming and distributing the migrants around their territory as much as possible, hosting them in structures adapted or created for this purpose.On the Italian side, two main issues might be identified and analysed: on the one hand the humanitarian emergency of the reception of the migrants, on the other hand, the difficult processes of social integration/inclusion which were put in place. On the French side, these issues are linked to the managing of the risk of radicalisation, in a context in which the memory of the recent terrorist attacks remains vivid.In dealing with the management of the process of social integration/inclusion, sport has proven to be an important (although controversial) opportunity for social inclusion of young immigrants. Micro participatory action-research has highlighted the potential given by a shared cultural framework, such as that provided by the practice of sport. On the Italian side, these practices have not yet been institutionalised, while on the French side there is a more organic strategy, based on a longer standing tradition of using sport as a means of social inclusion.Starting from this premise about the situation of the two countries, we will propose a descriptive and theoretical comparison based on some case studies that we consider significant in terms of the French and Italian approach to social inclusion through sports.

This paper acknowledges the need for greater convergence of immigrant and ethnic minorities integration policies in Europe and critically examines the general conviction that Great Britain is the source of best practice in this policy area. The articles’ main thesis is that contrary to the commonly held view, Multiculturalism as an integration policy is not effective and adequate. This claim is supported by the three groups of arguments. First of all, Multiculturalist policies have led to ghettoisation of the society and ethnically-driven conflicts instead of integration. Moreover, such policies often violate basic principles of democracy and equality as well as abuse individual human rights in the name of the rights of cultural groups. Finally, multiculturalist approach is inadequate especially at the times of “super-diversity,” in other words, unprecedented inter- and intra-group diversification. In conclusion principles for the future common EU integration policy that can be derived from the British experience are suggested.

Located in the centre of the continent, the Central Asian region is a kind of link between China and the countries of Southeast Asia, Afghanistan, the Middle East and a number of Islamic countries in the south, the Caucasus, Turkey, Europe and Russia – to the west and north. The beginning of the current development of the geopolitical situation in Central Asia falls on time of disintegration of the Soviet Union and emergence of independent republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The presented article describes the geopolitical situation of the region.

Находясь в самом центре континента, регион Центральной Азии представляет собой своего рода связующее звено между Китаем и государствами Юго-Восточной Азии, Афганистаном, государствами Ближнего Востока и рядом исламских государств на юге, Кавказом, Турцией, Европой и Россией – на западе и севере. Начало нынешнего этапа развития геополитической ситуации в Центральной Азии приходится на момент распада Советского Союза и создания независимых республик: Казахстана, Киргизии, Таджикистана, Туркменистана и Узбекистана. Opis:
The main purpose of this article is to present the characteristics of organizations dealing with immigrant integration and of integration initiatives implemented at the local level in two medium-sized cities - Bielefeld in Germany and Bradford in the UK. An additional objective is to identify and compare how the Polish communities living in both cities take advantage of offered integration programmes. The article fits into the current debate on how to put integration policies that are adopted at the national level into practice, and how are local governments trying to respond to the problems of diverse immigrant communities.

The flow of migrants towards Italy in these past decades has raised the problem regarding the absorption and integration of newcomers in the new society and the labour market; this problem has become more severe in this last period. Learning the language and the foundations of the social and political structures of the receiving community is the best way to establish the necessary competence for integration. As the presence of foreigners in Italy stabilises, education has become more complex, as it must be oriented not only towards newcomer students, but also towards those who were born in Italy in foreign families who speak their own mother tongue at home but are also highly competent in Italian. This situation gives rise to diverse individual profiles according to the different balance of the linguistic varieties in these students’ inventory. This article aims to show that an inspection carried according to the sociolinguistic methodology can bring forth valuable data for educational as well as territorial planning and for the definition of policies for integration. The article will present general data on the Italian situation compared to the European one in general in order to define the phenomenon. Then a specific study will be presented based on research conducted in the Scuola Cavour in Alessandria (PISU project – POR FESR 2014/2010), where there are classes in which foreigners and second-generation Italians (G2s) are numerous. A sociolinguistic questionnaire has been collected from students between the ages of 11 and 13 years old; the aim is to assess not only the students’ competences tout court, but also the social spaces where their different languages are used, their main difficulties, and their ambitions. The statistical data are presented and discussed in order to point out the different profiles; they reveal how complex it is to create a linguistic education that moves towards aware citizenship. Practically, the data also provide an important indication on the composition of the classroom and on the educational practices to adopt.
Il flusso di migranti verso l’Italia di questi ultimi decenni ha sollevato il problema dell’assorbimento e dell’integrazione dei nuovi arrivati nella società e nel mercato del lavoro; questo problema è divenuto più acuto in questi ultimi anni. Imparare la lingua e i fondamenti delle strutture sociali e politiche della comunità ospitante è il modo migliore per creare le competenze necessarie all’integrazione. Con lo stabilizzarsi della presenza di stranieri in Italia l’educazione è divenuta sempre più complessa perché deve orientarsi non solo agli studenti appena arrivati, ma anche a quelli che sono nati in Italia da famiglie straniere ed usano la loro lingua madre a casa, ma sono anche molto competenti in italiano. Si sono formati così svariati profili individuali, a seconda del diverso equilibrio delle varietà che compongono il loro repertorio linguistico. Questo articolo intende mostrare che l’indagine condotta con la metodologia della sociolinguistica può produrre dei dati preziosi per la pianificazione di interventi sia didattici sia territoriali volti anche alla definizione di politiche d’integrazione locale. L’articolo presenterà alcuni dati generali sulla situazione italiana confrontata con quella europea per definire il fenomeno, per poi presentare i risultati di una ricerca condotta nella Scuola media “Cavour” di Alessandria nell’ambito del progetto PISU (POR FESR 2014/2010) dove la presenza di alunni stranieri e di seconda generazione (G2) è molto numerosa. È stato somministrato un questionario sociolinguistico a studenti tra gli 11 e i 13 anni; l’obiettivo non era soltanto la valutazione delle competenze tout court, ma anche la classificazione dei contesti in cui le diverse varietà vengono usate, l’identificazione delle principali difficoltà rispetto alla istituzione scolastica e delle ambizioni. Si presenteranno e si discuteranno i dati statistici che evidenziano i diversi profili e mostrano quanto complessa sia la formazione linguistica finalizzata alla cittadinanza consapevole. Sul piano pratico, i dati danno anche una preziosa indicazione sulla composizione delle classi e sulle pratiche da adottare.

As a result of falsified legislative elections to the Sejm in early 1947. Communist Polish Workers’ Party received almost the full political power in Poland. Legally opposition, placed in the Polish Peasant Party and illegal, anti-communist political and military structures clearly weakened, were unable to influence the situation in the country. During 1947 and 1948 were promoted top-down thesis that had been successfully resolved all issues related to the integration so called Recovered Territories with the rest of the country. Incorporated in 1945 Eastern German territories. It was not true, but such views formed part of the fight against the Stalinist leadership of the PPR with the leader of the Communists ‘national’ Władysław Gomułka. During 1948, his political position has been marginalized. As the leader of PPR and head of the Ministry of Recovered Territories had lost the ability to influence the situation in the western and northern regions. At the beginning of 1949. Ministry was closed despite the many unresolved lands new problems
Infolge der gefälschten Wahlen zum „Legislativen Sejm“ (Sejm Ustawodawczy) Anfang 1947 gewann die kommunistische Polnische Arbeiterpartei (Polska Partia Robotnicza, kurz: PPP) fast die gesamte politische Macht in Polen. Die legale Opposition, die sich in der Polnischen Bauernpartei (Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe, kurz: PSL) sammelte, sowie illegale, antikommunistische politische und bewaffnete Strukturen verloren merklich an Kraft und waren nicht in der Lage, auf die Situation im Staat Einfluss zu nehmen. Im Verlauf der Jahre 1947 und 1948 wurde „von oben” die These lanciert, dass alle Fragen im Zusammenhang mit der Integration der sog. Wiedergewonnenen Gebiete mit dem übrigen Staat zu einer positiven Lösung gebracht worden seien. Es handelt sich um die 1945 einverleibten deutschen Ostgebiete. Dies entsprach nicht der Wahrheit, aber solche Ansichten passten zu dem Kampf der stalinistischen Leitung der PPP mit dem Anführer der „einheimischen” Kommunisten, Władysław Gomułka. Im Verlauf des Jahres 1948 wurde dessen politische Position marginalisiert. Als Anführer der PPP und Leiter des Ministeriums für die Wiedergewonnenen Gebiete büßte er die Möglichkeit ein, auf die Situation in den West- und Nordgebieten Einfluss zu nehmen. Anfang 1949 wurde das Ministerium für die Wiedergewonnenen Gebiete aufgelöst, obwohl viele Probleme in den neuen Gebieten noch nicht gelöst waren.
