    Opis:
    Innovation is a vital factor in today's markets and can dramatically change a company's competitive position. Despite its importance, innovation can also be a high risk adventure for companies due to the high level of uncertainty it entails. This article describes how well structured procedures can help companies guide through the whole innovation process, from idea generation to market launch. Furthermore, it illustrates how the decision making process regarding innovation management can be supported by appropriate software. First, currently existing innovation process models are investigated. How they support small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in their innovation activities is analysed and a modification Thom's well known process model is presented. Furthermore, a description of useful methods and instruments and their use within the innovation process is provided in the form of the innovation tool box. The innovation tool box helps companies both select and implement appropriate methods for the context at hand. A discussion of core factors and basic conditions for successful innovation management in SMEs rounds out the paper. A software tool for innovation management is then presented. Such software systematically supports innovation management and decision making throughout the whole innovation process. Furthermore, by demanding specific description and guidance of innovation methods it can additionally help companies in executing their innovation projects. How the database within the software can also be used to help companies distribute relevant information effectively is also described.

    Opis:
    The paper discusses a trend in the development of computer software known as “strategic forking.” This trend is an intrinsic feature of today’s “open-source community,” according to Konat. To begin with, the article defines the term “source code” in reference to software” and it also explains the terms “open source” and “free software.” Moreover, it introduces the definition of Free/Open-Source Software (FOSS). In the following part of the article, Konat offers a microeconomic analysis of “strategic forking” to determine the motives guiding software engineers taking part in FOSS projects. The problem is discussed from the perspective of the theory of public goods, the demand-side approach to innovation, and other theories concerned with issues such as “hackers’ ethic” and “ego boosting.” Konat pays special attention to describing the “strategic forking” phenomenon with the use of classical microeconomic and enterprise theory tools developed by researchers Jean Tirole and Josh Lerner. The author follows up with a comprehensive analysis of strategic forking as a key to explaining a fundamental discrepancy in the assessment of the motives that guide programmers taking part in the development of open-source software. The analysis focuses on the definition of strategic forking, the conditions determining this trend and its direct causes. Konat also looks at the implications of strategic forking and the factors due to which this approach has not become more widespread around the world. The article closes with a review of issues that require further analysis, according to Konat. These include the issue of software distribution.

    This paper describes advantages of using Management Information Systems in IT departments in the banking sector. Such solutions are gathering full information about IT services and assets. Full information means data regarding resources, type, configuration, relations with other assets, business priority, owners, costs, changes, subcontractors, performance etc. The solution is showing the “big picture” – the full view on the infrastructure and IT services. This approach is giving the management a complete view of the IT service’s situation, which helps in taking the right operational and strategic decisions. This type of solution is crucial in organizations, the business of which strongly depends on IT. A good example of such organizations are banks. Nowadays, their existence is impossible without IT solutions. Over the years, systems have been built on top of other systems to implement a constant stream of necessary changes, driven by regulatory, customer and market demands. As a result, the infrastructure is very complex and having the right tools to control it, became very important.Challenges of banks operating in current environment, their needs, solutions implemented and results of such projects are examined in this paper. Three Polish banks are mentioned, where sophisticated solutions for IT Service Management were implemented. The data is gathered from interviews made with CIO and project managers.
    Artykuł opisuje zalety korzystania z systemów wspomagających zarządzanie informacjami (Management Information Systems) w działach IT sektora bankowego. Takie rozwiązania zbierają pełne informacje o usługach i aktywach IT. Pełne informacje oznaczają dane dotyczące zasobów, typu, konfiguracji, powiązań z innymi aktywami, priorytetów biznesowych, właścicieli, kosztów, zmian, podwykonawców, wyników itp. Rozwiązanie ukazuje szeroki obraz infrastruktury i usług IT. To podejście daje zarządowi pełen obraz sytuacji, w jakiej znajduje się usługa IT, co pomaga w podejmowaniu dobrych operacyjnych i strategicznych decyzji. Rozwiązania tego typu są niezbędne w organizacjach, których interesy są zależne od branży IT, przykładowo w bankach. Bez dostępu do rozwiązań IT w dzisiejszych czasach banki nie mają racji bytu. Na przestrzeni lat systemy powstawały na podstawie innych systemów, aby umożliwić zmiany dyktowane przez regulacyjne, konsumenckie i rynkowe zapotrzebowania. W rezultacie posiadanie narzędzi do kontroli tej złożonej infrastruktury stało się bardzo ważne z punktu widzenia biznesu.W artykule zostały omówione wyzwania stojące przed bankami, ich potrzeby, zastosowane rozwiązania i wyniki projektów. Opisano trzy polskie banki, w których wprowadzono rozwiązania dla zarządzania usługami IT (IT Service Management). Dane pochodzą z wywiadu przeprowadzonego z dyrektorem do spraw IT i menedżerami projektów.
