Opis:
Using conformal mapping techniques, superposition and analytic continuation, we derive analytic solutions to the problem of a screw dislocation interacting with a parabolic elastic inhomogeneity. The screw dislocation can be located anywhere either in the surrounding matrix or in the parabolic inhomogeneity or simply on the parabolic interface itself. We obtain explicit expressions for the two analytic functions in the image plane characterizing the elastic fields describing displacement and stresses in the two-phase composite. Using the Peach-Koehler formula, we also obtain the image force acting on the screw dislocation. The analytic function defined in the parabolic inhomogeneity in the physical plane can be interpreted in terms of real and image screw dislocations for any location of the real screw dislocation.

We examine the in-plane and anti-plane stress states inside a parabolic inhomogeneity which is bonded to an infinite matrix through an intermediate coating. The interfaces of the three-phase parabolic inhomogeneity are two confocal parabolas. The corresponding boundary value problems are studied in the physical plane rather than in the image plane. A simple condition is found that ensures that the internal stress state inside the parabolic inhomogeneity is uniform and hydrostatic. Furthermore, this condition is independent of the elastic properties of the coating and the two geometric parameters of the composite: in fact, the condition depends only on the elastic constants of the inhomogeneity and the matrix and the ratio between the two remote principal stresses. Once this condition is met, the mean stress in the coating is constant and the hoop stress on the coating side is also uniform along the entire inhomogeneity-coating interface. The unconditional uniformity of stresses inside a three-phase parabolic inhomogeneity is achieved when the matrix is subjected to uniform remote anti-plane shear stresses. The internal uniform anti-plane shear stresses inside the inhomogeneity are independent of the shear modulus of the coating and the two geometric parameters of the composite.

We rigorously prove that a non-elliptical inhomogeneity continues to permit an internal uniform stress field despite the presence of a nearby non-circular Eshelby inclusion undergoing uniform anti-plane eigenstrains when the surrounding matrix is subjected to uniform remote anti-plane stresses. Here, we adopt a specific representation of the non-circular Eshelby inclusion as a Booth’s lemniscate inclusion. Our analysis indicates that the internal uniform stress field inside the non-elliptical inhomogeneity is independent of the existence of the Booth’s lemniscate inclusion whereas the non-elliptical shape of the inhomogeneity is attributed entirely to its presence. Representative numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method of general solution.

Using conformal mapping techniques, analytic continuation and the theory of Cauchy singular integral equations, we prove that a non-parabolic open inhomogeneity embedded in an elastic matrix subjected to a uniform remote anti-plane stress nevertheless admits an internal uniform stress field despite the presence of a finite mode III crack in its vicinity. Our analysis indicates that: (i) the internal uniform stress field is independent of the specific shape of the inhomogeneity and the presence of the finite crack; (ii) the existence of the finite crack plays a key role in the non-parabolic open shape of the inhomogeneity and in the non-uniform stresses in the surrounding matrix; (iii) the two-term asymptotic expansion at infinity of the stress field in the matrix is independent of the presence of the finite crack. Detailed numerical results are presented to demonstrate the proposed theory.

Using the Stroh quartic formalism, we prove that the internal electroelastic field is unconditionally uniform inside a three-phase anisotropic piezoelectric elliptical inhomogeneity with two confocal elliptical interfaces when the surrounding matrix is subjected to uniform remote anti-plane mechanical and in-plane electrical loading. The inhomogeneity and the matrix comprise monoclinic piezoelectric materials with symmetry plane at x3 = 0 and with poling in the x3-direction; the intermediate interphase layer is a transversely isotropic piezoelectric material with poling in the x3-direction. Moreover, we obtain the internal uniform electroelastic field inside the elliptical inhomogeneity and the non-uniform electroelastic field in the interphase layer in real-form in terms of the fundamental piezoelectricity matrices for both the inhomogeneity and the matrix and the generalized Barnett–Lothe tensors for both the interphase layer and the matrix.

W ciągu ostatnich lat pojawiły się opinie, że wynik oceny zawilgocenia otrzymany przy użyciu metody RVM jest często zawyżony w stosunku do wyników uzyskanych przy wykorzystaniu pozostałych metod. Autorzy sugerują, że jedną z przyczyn rozbieżności wyników oceny zawilgocenia, może być niejednorodność zawilgocenia izolacji. Wykonano badania oraz analizę spektrum napięcia powrotnego rozbudowanego laboratoryjnego modelu izolacji niejednorodnie zawilgoconej. Otrzymane wyniki odniesiono do wyników badań transformatorów energetycznych pracujących w polskim systemie energetycznym.
There is a considerable amount of controversy concerning proper results interpretation, particularly in reference to the RVM method. There is opinion that results of moisture content evaluation obtained using RVM methods are relatively higher than results obtained using another methods. Authors suggest that one of the reasons of result differences can be moisture inhomogeneity of insulation. Authors investigated and analysed the recovery voltage spectrum of a complex laboratory model of inhomogeneity insulation. The results of this research are presented in this paper. The results were also referred to the results of dielectric response investigations of the power transformers. The recovery voltage spectra of this unit's insulation were a non typical. The interpretation of the dielectric response in those cases was very difficult.

In this work, a general approximate solution for the configurational force between edge dislocation and inhomogeneity of an arbitrary shape and properties with coupled thermo- mechanical loads was developed on the basis of the Eshelby equivalent inclusion theory. The effect of temperature-dependent elastic properties, thermal expansion coefficient and yield strength on the configurational forces was analyzed. Furthermore, the configurational force considered to be the driving force for dislocation migration was innovatively used to investigate the interaction mechanism between graphene and internal defects of a metal.

Opis:
The effect of oscillating movement amplitude and frequency of electrode wire swinging on forming of pad weld runs, the character of parent metal penetration, as well as structural and chemical inhomogeneity in the zone of intermixing padding weld with parent material has been tested while submerged arc surfacing using oscillating electrode. It has been stated that along with increasing frequency of electrode wire end oscillations and the same amplitude and surfacing speed, the weld run formation is improved, the width of the zone of padding weld intermixture with parent material is reduced and more dispersive structure with lower structural and chemical inhomogeneity in a padding weld is being formed. More uniform fusion penetration into the parent material and alignment of fusion line can be observed. Those relations remain practically unchanged with increasing amplitude of oscillation.
Badano wpływ amplitudy ruchów zakosowych i częstotliwości wahań drutu elektrodowego przy napawaniu łukiem krytym elektrodą wahliwą na formowanie napawanych ściegów, charakter przetopienia materiału podstawowego, a także na strukturalną i chemiczną niejednorodność w strefie stopienia napoiny z materiałem podstawowym. Stwierdzono, że przy zwiększeniu częstotliwości wahań końca drutu elektrodowego, przy jednakowej amplitudzie i prędkości napawania, polepsza się formowanie ściegu, zmniejsza się szerokość strefy stopienia napoiny z materiałem podstawowym, w napoinie tworzy się bardziej dyspersyjna struktura z mniejszą strukturalną i chemiczną niejednorodnością. Obserwuje się bardziej równomierne wtopienie w materiał podstawowy i wyrównywanie linii wtopienia. Przy tym powyższe zależności praktycznie nie zmieniają się przy wzroście amplitudy ruchów zakosowych.

Analiza dostępnych danych literaturowych, jak też badania strukturalne filtrów własnej produkcji wskazują, że większość filtrów włókninowych cechuje się silnie polidyspersyjnym rozkładem średnic włókien, który zazwyczaj można dobrze aproksymować za pomocą rozkładu logarytmiczno-normalnego. Zaproponowano i rozwiązano nowe modele matematyczne pozwalające opisać penetrację cząstek aerozolowych przez takie filtry.
Analysis of the available literature data and results of structural investigations of our own-made filters indicate that majority of fibrous filters are characterized by a strong polydisperse fiber diameter distribution, which can be usually precisely approximated with the use of the log-normal one. New mathematical models allowing one to describe penetration of aerosol particles through such filters were proposed and solved.

It is shown in the paper that drop size distribution in liquid-liquid dispersions is affected by both the fine-scale and the large-scale inhomogeneity of turbulence. Fine-scale inhomogeneity is related to the phenomenon of local intermittency and described using a multifractal formalism. Large-scale inhomogeneity is related to inhomogeneous distributions of the locally averaged properties of turbulence, including the rate of energy dissipation and the integral scale of turbulence. Large-scale distributions of the properties of turbulence in a stirred tank are considered with a network of well-mixed zones. CFD methods are used to compute the properties of turbulence in these zones. A model taking into account inhomogeneity of both types explains the effect of the system's scale on drop size; it predicts smaller maximum stable drop sizes than the classic Kolmogorov theory of turbulence. The model predictions agree well with experimental data.

Opis:
Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD) techniques have been used by researchers for last three decades in order to obtain Ultra-Fine Grained (UFG) materials. Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) is preferred more than other SPD techniques thanks to its high performance and practicability. Hexa Equal Channel Angular Pressing (Hexa-ECAP) – modified ECAP technique which enables to apply ECAP routes for cylindrical samples properly – was preferred in this study. Within the objective of this study, the effects of coefficient and ram velocity on the mean effective strain and strain inhomogeneity of Hexa-ECAP processed Al7075 aluminium alloy were investigated. Also, the effects of ram velocity and friction coefficient on hardness homogeneity were investigated benefitting from the similarity between the hardness distribution and the strain distribution.

Phytoplankton communities have long been used as water quality indicators within environmental policies. This has fostered the development of national and international phytoplankton monitoring programs, but these networks are subject to sources of uncertainty due to laboratory issues. Nevertheless, studies regarding the interference associated with these aspects are not well-documented. Hence, a long time series (2003–2015) from the Basque continental shelf (southeastern Bay of Biscay) was analyzed to evaluate the uncertainty given by laboratory strategies when studying phytoplankton variability. Variability in phytoplankton communities was explained not only by environmental conditions but also by changes in fixatives (glutaraldehyde and acidic Lugol's solution) and laboratory staff. Based on Bray-Curtis distances, phytoplankton assemblages were found to be significantly dissimilar according to the effect of changes in the specialist handling the sample and the employed fixative. The pair-wise permutational multivariate analysis of variance (PERMANOVA) showed significant differences between the two fixatives utilized and also between the three taxonomists involved. Thus, laboratory-related effects should be considered in the study of phytoplankton time series.

Opis:
Most of underground hydrocarbon storage are located in depleted natural gas reservoirs. Seismic survey is the most economical source of detailed subsurface information. The inversion of seismic section for obtaining pseudoacoustic impedance section gives the possibility to extract detailed subsurface information. The seismic wavelet parameters and noise briefly influence the resolution. Low signal parameters, especially long signal duration time and the presence of noise decrease pseudoimpedance resolution. Drawing out from measurement or modelled seismic data approximation of distribution of acoustic pseuoimpedance leads us to visualisation and images useful to stratum homogeneity identification goal. In this paper, the improvement of geologic section image resolution by use of minimum entropy deconvolution method before inversion is applied. The author proposes context and adaptive transformation of images and edge detection methods as a way to increase the effectiveness of correct interpretation of simulated images. In the paper, the edge detection algorithms using Sobel, Prewitt, Robert, Canny operators as well as Laplacian of Gaussian method are emphasised. Wiener filtering of image transformation improving rock section structure interpretation pseudoimpedance matrix on proper acoustic pseudoimpedance value, corresponding to selected geologic stratum. The goal of the study is to develop applications of image transformation tools to inhomogeneity detection in salt deposits.

Acoustic inversion is useful to extract information from seismic data. Inhomogeneities of salt deposits should be predicted before the decision of underground storage location is made. The work concerns the possibility of detecting anhydrite intercalation in the rock salt from seismic dataset. The resolution strongly depends on signal to noise ratio. The synthetic pseudoacoustic impedance sections are generated for efficiency test of predictive and minimum entropy deconvolution process, when random noise distorts the seismic traces.
