    Opis:
    A new method utilizing holographic interferometry technique is described to conceal information in security holograms for enhancing their anti-counterfeiting ability. This concealed information can only be imitated if security hologram is illuminated through correct decoding wavefront generated through a key hologram. In decoding process, three spatially separated focus spots emerge at predefined positions which upon divergence further generate interferometric fringes modulated with concealed information in them. When security hologram is perfectly aligned, interferometric fringes disappear and concealed information becomes visible. The advantage of encoding through this technique lies in the fact that relative repositioning of key and security hologram becomes much easier and also additionally brings multifold improvement in the security level of the verification systems.

    Opis:
    In view of the needs related to automatic language processing, we emphasize the necessity of applying formal methods in linguistics in general, and particularly in creation of dictionary entries. We present some of our research achievements pertaining to the creation of a dictionary of Polish predicative nouns. As the dictionary is intended to be computer consulted, its entries take into account polysemy and contain information about the syntactic relations between elements of an elementary sentence. The dictionary is a kind of the lexicon grammar.
    Z uwagi na potrzeby związane z automatycznym przetwarzaniem języka w niniejszym artykule zwracamy uwagę na konieczność stosowania metod formalnych w językoznawstwie, a w szczególności na wymóg kodowania opisów w słownikach. W szczególności przedstawiamy rezultaty prac własnych, które są związane z budowanym od pewnego już czasu słownikiem predykatów rzeczownikowych języka polskiego. Ponieważ słownik przeznaczony jest do zastosowań komputerowych, hasła słownikowe otrzymały formę sformalizowaną uwzględniającą polisemię formy oraz łączliwość elementów w zdaniu elementarnym. Słownik ma charakter leksykonu gramatycznego.

    Opis:
    Various forms of language-activity influence the acquisition of a foreign language. In this article, the author underlines the importance of foreign-language exercises, and their effectiveness in the developing the learner’s encoding of decoded foreign-language information structures in the form of constant structure-matrices. The theories of teaching and learning drawn on in the article point to the variety of methods and degrees of foreign-language acquisition, both through cognitive exercises and through the pattern approach. Such exercises develop receptive and productive language-communication skills.

    Opis:
    The study is concerned with the fundamentals of granular computing and its application to neural networks. Granular computing, as the name itself stipulates, deals with representing information in the form of some aggregates (embracing a number of individual entitites) and their ensuing processing. We elaborate on the rationale behind granular computing. Next, a number of formal frameworks of information granulation are discussed including several alternatives such as fuzzy sets, interval analysis, rough sets, and probability. The notion of granularity itself is defined and quantified. A design agenda of granular computing is formulated and the key design problems are raised. A number of granular architectures are also discussed with an objective of dealineating the fundamental algorithmic and conceptual challenges. It is shown that the use of information granules of different size (granularity) lends itself to general pyramid architectures of information processing. The role of encoding and decoding mechanisms visible in this setting is also discussed in detail along with some particular solutions. Neural networks are primarily involved at the level of numeric optimization. Granularity of information introduces another dimension to the neurocomputing. We discuss the role of granular constructs in the design of neural networks and knowledge representation therein. The intent of this paper is to elaborate on the fundamentals and put the entire area in a certain perspective while not moving into specific algorithmic details.
