Opis:
In many practical situations fluids are normally blended with additives (viscosity index improvers, viscosity thickeners, viscosity thinners) due to which they show pseudoplastic and dilatant nature which can be modelled as cubic stress model (Rabinowitsch model). The cubic stress model for pseudoplastic fluids is adopted because Wada and Hayashi have shown that the theoretical results with this model are in good agreement with the experimental results. The present theoretical analysis is to investigate the pseudoplastic effect along with the effect of rotational inertia on the pressure distribution, frictional torque and fluid flow rate of externally pressurised flow in narrow clearance between two curvilinear surfaces of revolution. The expression for pressure has been derived using energy integral approach. To analyse and discuss the effects of pseudoplasticity and fluid inertia on the pressure distribution, fluid flow rate and frictional torque, the examples of externally pressurised flow in the clearance between parallel disks and concentric spherical surfaces have been considered.

Opis:
Void initiation and growth serve as an important mechanism in ductile failures in metals. Particularly, on the micron-level, the extra hardening effect associated with strain gradient is accounted for by adopting strain gradient elasto-plasticity instead of the conventional plasticity. Effects of inertial, strain gradient hardening and thermal softening are formulated analytically for the case where a spherical void expands under external hydrostatic stress. As demonstrated by our results, the inertia effect firstly tends to hinder but then promotes the void growth. The threshold stress required for rapid void growth is lifted due to extra hardening of strain gradient so that the growth of a smaller void is delayed more remarkably. A considerable thermal softening phenomenon is observed here, which is caused by plastic work during the deformation process. The final void growth rate is mainly related to the maximum loading, which is consistent with the prediction based on the classical plastic theory.

Opis:
The aim of this study is to determine whether mutual funds provide benefits for their clients. The performance of Polish mutual funds has been evaluated in terms of their efficiency, including their potential inertia over time. Moreover, the use of the phenomenon of economies of scale resulting from assets inflow to the fund by means of the Markovian framework has been examined. The results are consistent with the efficient market hypothesis. When assessing the market-adjusted returns, underperformance was noticed in both small and large funds. The smart money effect, recognised in the literature, is not confirmed here; however, there are some noticeable investor reactions, such as the phenomenon of chasing performance.
