Opis:
Over the past few years, interest and research in wireless power transfer (WPT) have been rapidly incrementing, and as an effect, this is a remarkable technology in many electronic devices, electric vehicles and medical devices. However, most of the applications have been limited to very close distances because of efficiency concerns. Even though the inductive power transfer technique is becoming relatively mature, it has not shown near-field results more than a few metres away transmission. This review is focused on two fundamental aspects: the power efficiency and the transmission distance in WPT systems. Introducing the principles and the boundaries, scientific articles will be reviewed and discussed in terms of their methods and respective challenges. This paper also shows more important results in efficiency and distance obtained, clearly explaining the theory behind and obstacles to overcome. Furthermore, an overlook in other aspects and the latest research studies for this technology will be given. Moreover, new issues have been raised including safety and security.

Opis:
Bidirectional Inductive power transfer (IPT) systems behave as high order resonant networks and hence are highly sensitive to changes in system parameters. Traditional PID controllers often fail to maintain satisfactory power regulation in the presence of parametric uncertainties. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes a robust controller which is designed using linear matrix inequality (LMI) techniques. The output sensitivity to parametric uncertainty is explored and a linear fractional transformation of the nominal model and its uncertainty is discussed to generate a standard configuration for μ-synthesis and LMI analysis. An H∞ controller is designed based on the structured singular value and LMI feasibility analysis with regard to uncertainties in the primary tuning capacitance, the primary and pickup inductors and the mutual inductance. Robust stability and robust performance of the system is studied through μ-synthesis and LMI feasibility analysis. Simulations and experiments are conducted to verify the power regulation performance of the proposed controller.

Opis:
In order to estimate the inductive power set in the armature of the high-speed solenoid valve (HSV) during the open loop control (OLC) using pulse width modulation (PWM) an analytical explicit formula has been derived. The simplifications taken both in the geometry and in the physical behavior of the HSV were described. The inductive power was calculated for different boundary conditions and shown as a function of the frequency of the coil current. The power set in the armature was used as an input to the thermal calculation. The thermal calculation had an objective to estimate the time dependent temperature distribution in the armature of the HSV. All the derivation steps were presented and the influence of different boundary conditions was shown and discussed. The increase of the temperature during the heating with inductive power has been evaluated both in the core and on the side surface of the HSV.

The problems connected to developing inductive power transfer IPT systems in aspects of high efficiency and suppression of electromagnetic field (EMF) emission are discussed. It is shown how important it is to compensate for large leakage impedance of IPT coils (air transformer) to improve efficiency of high power transfer. Such compensation circuits operating with resonant frequencies at soft switching conditions additionally allow for reduction of switching losses in power semiconductor devices of converters. The consideration has been illustrated and verified by experimental results measured on two different test stands (50 kW with planar coils and with two 12 kW receiver coils) built in a laboratory of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Electrotechnical Institute.

The work presents a DC power supply with power factor correction (PFC). This device is also equipped with a parallel active filter function, which enables the possibility of compensation (minimization) of reactive and distortion power, generated by a group of loads, connected to the same power grid node. A passive filter with variable inductance applied at the input of the power supply allows for a significantly improvement in quality of the system control (given specific criteria), as compared to the solution with a filter with fixed parameters. This is possible by increasing the dynamics of current changes at the power supply input (extending its “frequency response”). The paper presents the principle of operation as well as structures and models of the power supply control system and its power stage. Selected test results its power of the simulation model of the electric system with the power supply, in various operating conditions, are also presented.

Opis:
Powering therapeutic devices plays a crucial role in the design phase of implantable electronic units. Batteries could not provide sufficient charge storage, used for the lifetime of the device, considering the space available for them. As sophisticated surgical procedures are required with the possible trauma to the patient such as material discrepancy and tissue damage, replacement is quite risky and not an option. Thus, therapeutic devices, especially visual prostheses, receive power wirelessly through inductive coil links which are connected to a battery outside the body. An inductive link is based on the main principle that there are two components such as primary and secondary units. Although primary unit includes the battery outside the body, power transmitter, and control unit, secondary unit under the skin contains amplifier, rectifier regulators, and power control unit. In this study, an inductive coil link is modelled to evaluate fundamental design specifications for visual prostheses. Inductive coil link parameters are quantitatively investigated so that maximum power transfer efficiency and miniaturization, which are critically important for electronics placed in intraocular region, are provided. Considering 20 mm distance, it is concluded that the separation and the size of the coil pair, loop diameter, frequency have a major role to determine the system performance.

Opis:
The paper is the second part of the work, devoted to a DC power supply with a power factor correction function. The power supply is equipped additionally with a shunt active power filter function, which enables the compensation of reactive and distortion power, generated by loads, connected to the same power grid node. A tunable inductive filter, included at the input of the power electronics current source – the main block of the power supply – allows for an improvement of the quality of the system control, compared to the device with a fixed inductive filter. This improvement was possible by extending the current source “frequency response”, which facilitated increasing the dynamics of current changes at the power supply input. The second part of the work briefly reminds the reader of the principle of operation and the structures of both the power supply control system and its power stage. The main purpose of this paper is to present the selected test results of the laboratory model of the electric system with the power supply.

Most electrical equipment in common use is connected to the supply via plugs, flexible cables, slip rings, pantograph, etc. It can be useless in moist or explosion-endangered environment. This paper describes a technique, the contactless electrical energy transfer system, by which electrical energy may be transmitted through the large air gap. The transfer system is attractive especially for automatic battery charging stations and for energy supply of inductively powered electric vehicles and other movable consumers. In this case energy is transmitted via ironless transformer. Coupling between the windings is variables and depend on dimensions of air gap. The efficiency of system with large air gap (about 100 mm) can be considerably improved by using higher transmission frequencies in the range approximately 100 kHz. Large leakage inductances may be compensated also in resonance condition by adding capacitances to the windings. Paper presented analysis of power electronics converter with variable voltage frequency. These theoretical developments are compared with practical measurements from a prototype contactless system.

The paper presents the idea behind the implementation of a system designed to monitor biomedical parameters and the subject's behaviour on the basis of the architecture of measurement modules located on the body. The system was developed as a result of market launch of new generations of electronic devices combining high functionality, small size and low power consumption. The paper presents the elements of the system called BioSip, along with hardware solutions selected for the objectives to be accomplished, i.e. providing communication between system elements that would be efficient and resistant to artefacts, extending the time of operation for battery power supply, as well as ensuring a satisfactory level of reliability and ease of use.
