    To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Praktyka Teoretycznajournal, we have invited our long-lasting collaborators and comrades to reflect once again on the concept of the com-mon and its possible futures by posing the following questions: a) what is the most important aspect of the current struggles for the common?; b) what are the biggest challenges for the commonist politics of the future?; and c) where in the ongoing struggles do you see a potential for scaling-up and spreading organisation based on the com-mon?     The increasing indigenous demand for the recognition of the ri-ghts of indigenous population is a part of a history of mistreatment and abuses. The article seeks to analyze four aspects that are behind the indigenous mobilization: mo-dern law, strengthening of the indigenous movement, international organizations, and transnational capitalism.
    La creciente demanda indígena por el reconocimiento de sus dere-chos es parte de una historia de maltratos y abusos sufridos. Se analizan cuatro ver-tientes que están detrás de la movilización indígena: el cuestionamiento al derecho moderno, la vigorización del movimiento indígena, la acción de organismos interna-cionales, y el capitalismo transnacional.

    The high expectations expressed in the missionary press for the 1910 World Missionary Conference in Edinburgh frequently determine also the discussions of South Indian protestant Christians, which are reflected in their journal, “The Christian Patriot” (Madras 1890ff). Edinburgh is perceived here as a “universal” event, in which “all branches” of (protestant) Christianity are represented and racial barriers are “absolutely lost.” At the same time, further expectations are directed at the conference which go well beyond the agenda of conservative missionaries. These include the demand for the swift granting of “absolute independence for Indian Christians.” In addition, the selection and role of Indian representatives at the Edinburgh Conference are discussed with much controversy.

    The language of fire has sometimes been used in illustrative ways to describe how social movements spark, flare, and sometimes sputter out. Building on recent scholarship about protest camps, as well as borrowing language from environmental historians about fire behavior, this article draws from ethnographic research to describe the pyropolitics of the Indigenous-led anti-pipeline movement at Standing Rock-examining how fire was used as analogy and in material ways to support and drive the movement to protect water from industrial capitalism. Describing ceremonial fires, social fires, home fires, cooking fires, and fires lit in protest on the front line, this article details how fire was put to work in myriad ways in order to support the movement against the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), and ensure social order and physical survival at the camps built to house supporters of the movement. This article concludes with descriptions of how these sparks ignited at Standing Rock followed activists home to their own communities, to other struggles that have been taken up to resist pipelines, the contamination of water, and the appropriation of Indigenous land.
