Opis:
The paper deals with the modelling of the undrained response of non-cohesive partially saturated soils subjected to triaxial compression. The model proposed is based on an incremental equation describing the pre-failure response of non-cohesive soils during shearing. The original model, developed by Sawicki, was modified by taking into account pore fluid compressibility. The governing equation makes it possible to simulate effective stress paths under undrained conditions. Numerical results are compared with experimental data.

Computer aided design of innovative incremental forming process dedicated to manufacturing integral elements for aerospace industry is the main aim of the present work. Description of the proposed incremental forging idea as well as details of the developed numerical models are presented within the paper. First, a simple model of a single anvil indentation was created to evaluate material behaviour under different pressing depths. Then a complete numerical model of developed incremental forming press was proposed. Finally, obtained results in the form of strain distribution and recorded forging loads are presented and compared with results from conventional forming model.

Opis:
The paper presents stability analysis of an elastic-plastic sandwich open conical shell of a circular cross section under combined external load in the form of lateral pressure, longitudinal forces, and shear. The shell consists of two load-carrying faces made of an isotropic, compressible work-hardening material, and they are of different thicknesses and made of different material properties; the core material is of a soft type and it resists transversal forces only. It is also assumed that the shell can be deformed into plastic range before buckling. The flexural, stiffness of the faces is taken into account, the Kirchhoff-Love hypotheses hold for the faces, and the active deformation processes are considered. The constitutive relations used in the analysis are those of the incremental Prandtl-Reuss plastic flow theory associated with the Huber-Mises yield condition. The virtual work principle is the basis to obtain the governing stability equations and the Ritz method is used to derive differential equations of the considered problem. An iterative computer algorithm was elaborated to analyse the shells both in the elastic or elastic-plastic prebuckling state of stress.
W pracy przedstawiono analizę stateczności sprężysto-plastycznej otwartej powłoki stożkowej pod wpływem złożonego obciążenia w postaci siły podłużnej, ciśnienia poprzecznego i sił tnących.

New capital requirements, introduced as a result of the financial crisis, imposed on some banking institutions an obligation to put in place an internal model covering the default and migration risks in the trading book, in addition to the risks covered already by VaR internal models. In contrast to the requirements for internal models of credit risk in the banking book introduced by the New Capital Accord, banks’ regulators did not impose in this case any particular model, leaving banks with freedom to choose the preferred approach. This paper presents, in the light of new supervisory regulations, differences in modeling of the credit risk in the trading book as compared to banking book requirements, focusing in particular on the so-called liquidity horizons. Based on the multifactor model, the impact on capital requirements of a choice of different liquidity horizons for the various creditworthiness levels of the issuers has been analysed, with particular focus on multiple defaults in a given capital horizon, resulting from the regulatory assumption of the constant level of risk.

Opis:
Population-Based Incremental Learning (PBIL) algorithm is a combination of evolutionary optimization and competitive learning derived from artificial neural networks. PBIL has recently received increasing attention in various engineering fields due to its effectiveness, easy implementation and robustness. Despite these strengths, it was reported in the last few years that PBIL suffers from issues of loss of diversity in the population. To deal with this shortcoming, this paper uses parallel PBIL based on multi-population. In parallel PBIL, two populations are used where both probability vectors (PVs) are initialized to 0.5. It is believed that by introducing two populations, the diversity in the population can be increased and better results can be obtained. The approach is applied to power system controller design. Simulations results show that the parallel PBIL approach performs better than the standard PBIL and is as effective as another diversity increasing PBIL called adaptive PBIL.

This work addresses the problem of adaptive observer design for nonlinear systems satisfying incremental quadratic constraints. The output of the system includes nonlinear terms, which puts an additional strain on the design and feasibility of the observer, which is guaranteed under the satisfaction of an LMI, and a set of algebraic constraints. A particular case where the output nonlinearity matches the unknown parameter coefficient is also discussed. The result is illustrated through a numerical example for the chaos synchronization of the Rössler system.

Opis:
Incremental sheet forming (ISF) is a flexible manufacturing process for sheet metal parts in small to medium quantities. Successive movements of a stylus create the geometry of the sheet metal part. ISF can be performed with or without a counter tool. By using counter tools, the geometry deviation of the formed sheet metal part can be reduced. To achieve the broader application of ISF, counter tools must be cost-effective, fast, and individually producible, even for batch sizes of only one part. In addition to milling, which has been the main method used to date, additive manufacturing (AM) also makes it possible to meet these requirements for flexible counter tool production. To investigate the suitability of AM for the production of counter tools for the ISF and to learn more about the load on the counter tool, a cylindrical counter tool made of polylactic acid (PLA) was produced using the fused filament fabrication (FFF) process. This counter tool was used for the ISF of drawing steel. Based on the force measurement results, a first step towards suitability evaluation of 3D-printed counter tools for ISF was taken, and possibilities, as well as application limits for such counter tools were discussed.

Based on the central composite design, data were collected during 20 runs and then variation analysis was performed. The experiments were performed on a 3 axis CNC milling machine equipped with a Kistler dynamometer plate. Subsequently, regression models have been developed to describe process responses by input factors. As crucial parameters, the relative velocity and step size of the tool that affect the forming force and the height of the fracture have been determined. Finally, the application of optimization algorithm has emerged optimal input factors in terms of selected multi-criteria goal. The results of this study suggest that there is a process window that allows the formation of 45° wall angle drawpieces of commercially pure titanium Grade 2.

In this work, we present the development of a mathematical approach for the solution of linear, non-ageing viscoelastic materials undergoing mechanical deformation. We use an integral approach based on a discrete spectrum representation for the creep tensor in order to derive the incremental viscoelastic formulation. Integral operators are discretized using finite difference techniques. The incremental viscoelastic constitutive model contains an internal state variable which represents the influence of the whole past history of stress and strain, thus the difficulty of retaining the stress-strain history in numerical solutions is avoided. A complete general formulation of linear viscoelastic stress-strain analysis is developed in terms of increments of stresses and strains. Numerical simulations are included in order to validate the incremental constitutive equations.

This paper presents a new incremental formulation in the time domain for linear, non-aging viscoelastic materials undergoing mechanical deformation. The formulation is derived from linear differential equations based on a discrete spectrum representation for the creep tensor. The incremental constitutive equations are then obtained by finite difference integration. Thus the difficulty of retaining the stress history in computer solutions is avoided. A complete general formulation of linear viscoelastic stress analysis is developed in terms of increments of strains and stresses. Numerical results of good accuracy are achieved. In this study, the trabecular bone was treated as a composite material that consists of a bone matrix weakened by ellipsoidal pores. Under the hypothesis that all information concerning the local properties and the microarchitecture are “encrypted” in the apparent properties of a given volume element (VE) of the bone, a method of retrieving these data was proposed. Software based on a genetic algorithm, combined with the incremental scale transition method was developed to this end. To test the approach, μCT measurements of four bone samples were performed providing their real micro-architecture. Tensors of apparent properties of the samples were next computed by numerical (finite element) homogenization method for a large range of the elastic properties of trabeculae. They were considered as the fitness function for the proposed algorithm. Very good agreement was found between the obtained and target values of the apparent elastic properties of the samples and volume fraction of pores. The approach is fast and accurate enough in comparison to the finite element homogenization. As an auxiliary result it was shown that the anisotropy of apparent elastic properties is mainly related to the microarchitecture of the bone, not to the intrinsic properties of trabeculae.

Detection of concept changes in incremental learning from data streams and classifier adaptation is studied in this paper. It is often assumed that all processed learning examples are always labeled, i.e. the class label is available for each example. As it may be difficult to satisfy this assumption in practice, in particular in case of data streams, we introduce an approach that detects concept drift in unlabeled data and retrains the classifier using a limited number of additionally labeled examples. The usefulness of this partly supervised approach is evaluated in the experimental study with the Enron data. This real life data set concerns classification of user's emails to multiple folders. Firstly, we show that the Enron data are characterized by frequent sudden changes of concepts. We also demonstrate that our approach can precisely detect these changes. Results of the next comparative study demonstrate that our approach leads to the classification accuracy comparable to two fully supervised methods: the periodic retraining of the classifier based on windowing and the trigger approach with the DDM supervised drift detection. However, our approach reduces the number of examples to be labeled. Furthermore, it requires less updates of retraining classifiers than windowing.

This paper presents the results of experimental research on the fabrication of thin-walled panels with longitudinal stiffening ribs by the single point incremental sheet forming technique. The bead-stiffened panels were made of Alclad 2024-T3 aluminium alloy sheets commonly used in aircraft structures. The influence of forming parameters and tool strategy on surface quality and the possibility of obtaining stiffening ribs with the required profile and depth was tested through experimental research. Two tool path strategies, spiral with continuous sinking and multi-step z-level contouring, were considered. The results of the experiments were used to verify the finite element-based numerical simulations of the incremental forming process. It was found that the main parameter which influences the formability of test sheets is the tool path strategy; the tool path strategy with multi-step z-level contouring allowed the rib to be formed to a depth of 3.53 mm without risk of cracking. However a greater depth of rib equal of 5.56 mm was achieved with the continuous tool path. The tool path strategy was also the main parameter influencing the surface finish of the drawpiece during the single point incremental forming process.

Opis:
Aim/purpose – In this paper, we explore the contribution of Human Resource Management Systems (HRMS) to innovation in SMEs. We consider two HRMS with different orientations: Commitment HRMS (focusing on long-term career development to increase employees’ creativity) and Collaboration HRMS (focusing on the use of external human capital to achieve innovation). We believe that SMEs’ radical and incremental innovation follow different paths from a configurational perspective. We want to understand how the two HRMS influence radical and incremental innovation, consequently, we explore the contributions of Commitment HRMS and Collaboration HRMS. Design/methodology/approach – We apply a set-theoretic method, an analytic quantitative and qualitative technique to approach data – fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) – to test our models. We use a sample of 377 Portuguese SMEs from across industries. Findings – Results show there are two pathways that lead SMEs to high levels of incremental innovation and three alternative paths that originate high levels of radical innovation. By contrast, there are ways that lead to lower levels of incremental (two options) and radical innovation (three options). Research implications/limitations – We provide propositions for theory development on the contribution of HRMS to innovation. Managerial contributions regard the several options provided to SME managers in search of innovation. Limitations regard the lack of generalization power of results due to the cross-sectional nature of the work. However, the research design is replicable without restrictions. Originality/value/contribution – We suggest that SMEs’ radical and incremental innovation follow different paths from a configurational perspective. With this study, we contribute to showing the diversity of ways to reach higher innovation levels at SMEs, so that managers know the alternatives they have at their disposal. Additionally, we reveal the ways that lead to lower innovation levels at SMEs, so we alert managers to the undesired pathways they should be cautious about.

Opis:
An incremental solution of a member in bending and compression by displacement method with shear force impact is presented, wherein individual incremental steps, both the geometrical characteristics of the cross- -section and the position of the neutral axis, can be changed. Functions of loads, internal forces and displacements are represented by trigonometric series. In every load step internal forces and deformation state is memorised, therefore history of the load and stiffness is taken into account. This solution is useful both in static calculations of structures being strengthened as well as in structures, in which degradation of stiffness under load occurs as a result of wall stability loss. The member may be loaded by uniformly distributed load, any number of concentrated forces and nodal moments.

Opis:
The aim of the present article is the assessment of technical shear resistance (technological shear) of orthopedic screw made of titanium alloy Ti6Al4V, produced using incremental technology in the process of 3D printing process. The first part of the work presents incremental techniques in production engineering. The second part of the present work contains a specification of the 3D printing process of samples as well as the description of the used material. The fundamental part of the article is composed out of endurance tests for orthopaedic screws as well as the analysis of the obtained results and conclusions. The method of incremental production SLM using SLM 280HL metal printer was used during the technological process. The resistance tests were performed using ZWICK/ROELL Z150 machines. Identical endurance trials were performed for monolithic bars made of titanium alloys (of bar core size ) made on a wire electric discharge machine Sodick SL600Q for comparative purposes. The obtained test results enabled comparative assessment of the value of shear resistance Rt in the conditions of technological shear. According to the performed tests, the shear resistance Rt of orthopaedic screws is nearly 33% lower than of monolithic bars of the same core size.

Opis:
The final accuracy of the parts formed using single point incremental forming greatly depends on the mechanical properties of the material to be formed and the residual stress formation. In this paper, an X-ray diffraction technique was used to study the distribution of the residual stress along the generating line of the conical drawpiece. A DC04 steel sheet with a thickness of 0.8 mm was used as a test material. The basic mechanical properties of the DC04 sheet metal were determined in the uniaxial tensile test according to the EN ISO 6892–1:2016. It was found that the maximum amount of the residual stress existed in a point located in the midway between a base and a truncation of the drawpiece. In the outer surface of the drawpiece, the orange peel defect associated with a rough surface appearance after SPIF a drawpiece, was observed. In contrast, the inner surface of component was characterized by linear grooves associated with the interaction of tool tip with the sheet surface. This defect is mainly influenced by vertical step size.

The response of adult organisms to physical exercise and physical training is well documented. The same, however, cannot be said about children. This situation is the result of ethical problems of measuring a child’s body response. A great deal of important information concerning the integrated pulmonary–cardiovascular–muscle metabolic response to exercise can be acquired from the breath-by-breath measurement of pulmonary gas exchange (PGE) during ramp incremental exercise tests – CPET (cardiopulmonary exercise test). The authors decided to add a temperature measurement to the standard measurement techniques when designing a measurement system. The body temperature is a parameter that differs children and adults. The physical as well as physiological differences between children and adults may explain a different response to thermal stress [7]. The paper presents the design of a new measurement system customized for measurements of human body temperature during exercise tests (CPET) for children. The temperature measurement system was designed to be used as a complementary part of the measurement system used during cardiopulmonary tests. In the paper there are also given the test results of a prototype of the temperature measurement system. Based on the tests one can conclude that the designed system allows for the temperature measurement of chosen parts of the child’s body during endurance tests using a non-invasive and fairly comfortable method. The use of the designed system should allow for further investigation of the relation between skin temperature and hemoglobin oxygenation [6] and the assumption that temperature changes, monitored in the real time, are a possible factor in determining the maximum intensity of an exercise, especially for children exercise tests. The extra information provided will allow for an increase of the safety of exercise tests, especially for children.

Opis:
This research investigates a novel hole-flanging process by paddle forming through the use of finite element (FE) simulations. Paddles of different shapes rotating at high speeds were used to deform clamped sheets with predrilled holes at their centers. The results of the simulations show that the paddle shape determines the geometry and principal strains of the formed flanges. A convex-shaped paddle forms flanges with predominant strains in the left quadrant of the forming limit diagram (FLD). However, the convex paddle promotes unwanted bulge formation at the clamped end of the flange. A concave paddle forms flanges with no bulge but the principal strains of elements in the middle section of the flange are in the right quadrant of the FLD which indicates an increased probability for crack occurrence. An optimization of the paddle shape was conducted to prevent bulging at the clamped end while avoiding crack occurrence. The paddle shape was optimized by mapping the deformation of some elements along the flange length to a pre-defined strain path on the FLD while maintaining the bulge height within the desired geometric tolerance. The radii and lengths of the paddle edge were varied to obtain an optimum paddle shape.

new incremental method of updating Young modulus
Opis:
This paper presents a new Young modulus updating procedure as an extension to the SIMP method used for topology optimization. In essence, the modified Young modulus updating procedure consists in taking into account in a given optimization step not only the material density from the preceding step, but also the increment in density in the two preceding steps. Thanks to this, it is possible to obtain a solution in cases in which the classic SIMP method failed. The variational approach was adopted and the structure’s strain energy was minimized under constraints imposed on body mass. FEM was used to solve numerical examples. The numerical analysis confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method, particularly for structures with relatively long spans.
