Cities, but also villages around the world, are struggling with air pollution that can lead to illness and even death of citizens. This phenomenon causes that many local governments are going to build an air purification installations in public spaces. The article presents an analysis of air quality in the center of Polish cietes like Warsaw, Krakow and Zakopane for PM10 and PM2.5 dusts in December 2018. There are proposed ways to improve the air quality in open urban spaces.

The article analyses the process of implementing the idea of commemorating the victims of December 70 in Szczecin. Disputes, discussions and decisions accompanying this monument are doubly symptomatic: they reveal a problem with the presence of contemporary art in public space, and the question of who and what should be the main purpose of commemorative sculpture. After 1989, the Szczecin agora reflected the political transition of the state, additionally characterised by the “short duration” complex (existence as a “Polish city” only after 1945). Art plays a role in ordering (and subordination) of public sphere, and, as such a tool (building politically handy identity symbols), it is perceived by the authorities. Its specificity, however, allows it to escape social and political control. The second area of consideration is the analysis of the relationship between commemorative function (desired by the founders) and the operation of contemporary art, in reference to the theory of cultural forms of memory. The three-dimensional urban game of visibility was played out in Szczecin around three public sculptures: two unrealised designs, and the final work by Czesław Dźwigaj.

Opis:
Street art (or more broadly urban art), as the name suggests, has its own specific place, which is the street. However one would be mistaken to think that this type of art can only be seen there. Most street art lovers know the works of their favourite artists primarily through the Internet, not only because this kind of art is ephemeral or not easily accessible (for example, due to its dangerous or exotic locations), but because it is perhaps the best documented art that has been created in the world. For artists and lovers of street art, the Internet has become a common space to share photos. More often than not, the Internet also becomes the only place where artistic ideas exist. Paradoxically, such art, which was supposed to be the nearest to the viewer in the physical sense, has become the nearest in the virtual sense. One can, however, hope that neither consumers of art. nor artists will have to give up their direct experience of art that builds our polysensory sensitivity.

The paper demonstrates selected communicative phenomena characteristic of the Polish high school classroom, i.e. classroom communicative inertia and students’ communicative snippiness, which are assumed to originate, inter alia, from the popularity of Internet social networks, the language of which has been partly shaped by such globalising tendencies as the rise of the dominant position of the English language and Anglo-Saxon culture. The remedy for the aforementioned negative aspects of classroom communication may be sought among the premises underlying the concept of the transcommunicator. It is assumed that the above theory should be applied to English language teaching and learning in Poland.

W artykule przedstawiono rozważania dotyczące funkcjonowania przestrzeni publicznej o charakterze kulturalnym oraz jej integrację z systemem przestrzeni miejskich na przykładzie Chojnic. Kontemplacja nad wszystkimi zagadnieniami – tożsamości, kultury w mieście, aspektów społecznych przestrzeni publicznej – opiera się na projekcie zagospodarowania przestrzeni wokół Chojnickiego Centrum Kultury. W przedstawionym obszarze zauważa się brak aktywności społecznych, zamknięcie działalności kulturalnej wewnątrz obiektu, brak tożsamości miejsca oraz funkcjonalnej integracji ze strukturą miasta. Ponadto działania władz miejskich na rzecz poprawy stanu obszaru dotyczą wyłącznie modernizacji obiektu wraz z projektem zagospodarowania przestrzeni w funkcję parkingową. Zauważa się także brak powiązań pomiędzy przestrzeniami o potencjale kulturowym. Zakres projektu obejmuje część analityczną oraz część projektową. W pierwszej części oparto się na literaturze dotyczącej przestrzeni publicznych oraz – w części analiz fizyczno-geograficznych – na dokumentach sporządzanych dla obszaru miasta. Analizy społeczne oraz gospodarcze poparto danymi Głównego Urzędu Statystycznego. Ostatecznym rezultatem niniejszego opracowania jest projekt zagospodarowania przestrzeni przy Chojnickim Centrum Kultury. Na potrzeby odpowiedniego funkcjonowania obszarów o podobnej funkcji publicznej w mieście, stworzono także koncepcję spójnego systemu przestrzeni, za pomocą powiązań przestrzennych i funkcjonalnych, na bazie istniejącego potencjału.
In this article it is considered the functioning of art public space and its connection with all structure on the example of Chojnice city. The contemplation is based on a development project for the public space around the Chojnice Cultural Center. In this area it could be noticed that there is no social activities, identity and integration between the space and the city. Another problem is unavailability of a culture for all the society, because of its introversion into the culture institutes. Furthermore, the operations of local authorities refer only to modernization of Cultural Centre building. The thesis contains two main parts, the first one - analyses, and the second one - the project of the space. The first part focused on natural environmental analyses was based on documents containing environmental information relating to the Chojnice city. Social review was made of the basis of available statistical data, and finally spatial analyses resulted from an on-site verification. The ultimate result of this study is spatial development project for area of Centre for Culture in Chojnice city,which was based on analyses and adapted to existing local conditions . The added value was a project of system of public spaces based on relationship between each other.

This paper attempts to outline the issue of “territory”, and other related conceptual categories such as “space”, in religious studies. Based on recent as well as older publications, it critically addresses current debates on the ambiguous status of “territory”. In such discussions, the world is generally described in terms of cultural and religious flows, subjected to deterritorialization processes. However, relocating “space” and “territory” to the forefront of Social Sciences and Religious Studies is urgent, as evidenced empirically and theoretically: it appears that opposing the shifting paradigms of “deterritorialization” on the one hand, and “spatial turn” on the other, stems from epistemological inaccuracies, rather than from a solid ground of empirically-observed religious realities. Hence, this paper offers a series of critical rejoinders to the opposed paradigms of “deterritorialization” and “spatial turn” in religious studies.
Autor artykułu podejmuje próbę zarysu problemu „terytorium” i innych powiązanych kategorii pojęciowych, takich jak „przestrzeń”, w religioznawstwie. Na podstawie ostatnio wydanych jak i starszych publikacji, krytycznie odnosi się do bieżących debat na temat dwuznacznego statusu „terytorium”. W takich dyskusjach świat jest ogólnie opisany jako kulturowe i religijne przepływy poddane procesom deterytorializacji. Wymogiem współczesności jest jednak uczynienie z „przestrzeni” i „terytorium” pierwszoplanowych przedmiotów zainteresowania nauk społecznych i religioznawstwa, co znajduje uzasadnienie w racjach o charakterze empirycznym i teoretycznym. Wydaje się, że zmieniające się paradygmaty „deterytorializacji” z jednej strony i swego rodzaju „zwrot przestrzenny” z drugiej, wynikają z epistemologicznych nieścisłości, a nie z solidnej, empirycznie potwierdzonej obserwacji rzeczywistości religijnych. Stąd też Autor formułuje szereg krytycznych ocen dotyczących przeciwnych paradygmatów „deterytorializacji” i „zwrotu przestrzennego”.

The text shortly describes the phenomenon of art in public space and some examples of such project by German artist Thorsten Goldberg. In the beginning of the text there’s a definition of this phenomenon and writing about the uprising of the field of art and its progress in USA, Poland and Germany. The text contents distinguishes also few different kinds of such art: drop sculptures, site-specific and context-specific projects. The following parts present examples of projects of art in public space which have been created by Thorsten Goldberg. There’s also about its contexts, innovative meanings and importance for the progress of art in public space. Art and texts of the German artist, Thorsten Goldberg could be an important pattern for other artists who work in this field of art.

Il s’agit d’une interrogation qui inquiète beaucoup, car - et le constat est déjà ancien - la sécularisation de la société française a livré une conception de la laïcité soumise à la fois aux politiques d’intégration et bousculée par les diversités religieuses.
Pytania dotyczące obecności religii w przestrzeni publicznej Francji należą dziś do szczególnie aktualnych. Wobec europejskiego kryzysu imigracyjnego nie można rezygnować z prób udzielenia odpowiedzi o adekwatność stosowanych dziś rozwiązań. Współcześnie realizowana we Francji koncepcja laickości wyjaśniana jest bowiem często z odwołaniem się do wymogów polityki integracji oraz potrzeb i nacisków różnych grup religijnych. Wobec dokonujących się zmian, postrzeganych często i nie bez podstaw jako zagrożenie dla porządku publicznego, należałoby rozpocząć od zrewidowania pojęć, często mylnie rozumianych, które od wejścia w życie ustawy z 9 grudnia 1905 roku określają obszary wytyczone dla religii. Dotycząca tych kwestii praca badawcza wymaga konfrontacji sytuacji historycznej ze współczesnością. Takie porównanie pozwala na uwypuklenie elementów stanowiących nowość, związanych ze zjawiskiem, które można określić jako wypaczanie świadomości społeczeństw świata zachodniego. W celu naświetlenia tej sytuacji należy wziąć również pod uwagę najistotniejsze różnice istniejące pomiędzy religiami, na których koncentrowali się twórcy unormowań z 1905 roku oraz tymi, które w Europie Zachodniej odgrywają dziś coraz większą rolę w konsekwencji ruchów migracyjnych. Należy przede wszystkim podkreślić małą adekwatność stosowania do nich tych samych reguł, które odnosi się do chrześcijaństwa. Przyjmują one bowiem często koncepcje teokratyczne i nie akceptują rozróżnienia sfery sacrum i profanum.
Questions concerning the presence of religion in the public space of France are today particularly valid. The attempts to answer questions about the appropriateness of the current solutions cannot be given up in the face of European crisis concerning the issue of immigration. The concept of secularism currently implemented in France is in fact often explained with reference to the requirements of integration policy and the needs and pressure from various religious groups. Regarding the current changes, seen often, and not without a reason, as a threat to public order, the discussion should start with the revision of concepts, often mistakenly understood, that have defined the areas of religion since the entry into force of the Act of 9 December 1905. The research of these issue requires a juxtaposition of the present and a historical situation. Such a comparison highlights any new elements that are associated with the phenomenon, which can be described as an act of distorting the consciousness of societies of the Western world. In the light of this situation the essential differences between religions should be also taken into account; those on which the creators of regulations from 1905 focused and those which in Western Europe today play an increasingly important role in the consequences of migration. The same rules that apply to Christianity cannot be applied to them because often they take on the theocratic concepts and do not accept the distinction between the sacred and the profane.

Na przykładzie dwóch realizacji w przestrzeni publicznej (przestrzeń miejska i przestrzeń leśna) pokazano sposób, w jaki sztuka – przenikając się z życiem (miejskim i przyrodniczym) – może poruszać temat sacrum. Obie realizacje powstały w przestrzeni pozareligijnej (w naturze i kulturze): „Holy!” (2012) to akcja artystyczna w przestrzeni czterech szczecińskich ośrodków mieszkaniowych. „Umajenie” (2015) to instalacja na terenie Lasu Oliwskiego w Gdańsku Oliwie. Obie prace czerpią swoje inspiracje i bezpośrednio odnoszą się do ikonografii religijnej, jednocześnie przeinterpretowując ich tradycyjne założenia w celu skonstruowania współczesnej wypowiedzi na temat duchowego potencjału sztuki. Wypowiedź świadomie sformułowano wobec panującego obecnie kryzysu religijności w ogóle, a w szczególności w kontekście dyskursu artystycznego. Prace te są efektem osobistej potrzeby obcowania ze sferą sacrum poprzez medium sztuki i poza zdającą się tkwić w impasie tradycyjną przestrzenią sakralną. Zastosowane metody badawcze: eksperymentalna, obserwacyjna, intuicyjna, metoda indywidualnych przypadków, metoda wywiadu.
On the basis of two examples of art in public space (urban and natural), I show how art – interfused with life (urban and natural) – can pertain to the sphere of the sacred. Both works were realized in non-religious environment (in nature and culture): “Holy!” (2012) is an art intervention in four different housing developments in Szczecin. “Umajenie” (2015) is an installation inside the Forest of Oliwa in Gdansk. Both pieces draw their inspiration from and directly refer to religious iconography, simultaneously reinterpreting their traditional premises in order to construct a contemporary statement about the spiritual potential of art. I consciously formulate this statement in the current circumstance of crisis of religion in general, and in particular in the context of contemporary artistic discourse. These works result from a personal need to commune with the sphere of the sacred through art – and outside of weary traditional sacred space. Scientific methods used in the process: experimental, intuitive, observation, case study, interview.

Sprawozdanie z Ogólnopolskiej Konferencji Naukowej pt. "Wolność religijna osób i funkcjonariuszy publicznych", zorganizowanej w Radoczy koło Wadowic,  w dniach 18–20 listopada 2022 roku. Jej organizatorem była Katedra Prawa Wyznaniowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego Jana Pawła II we współpracy z Polskim Towarzystwem Prawa Wyznaniowego.

Opis:
This article will cover a number of issues concerning artistic events indicated in the title with emphaisis on the activities or projects of the artists actively involved ‘ordinary citizens,’ the inhabitants of Poland’s Western and Northern Territories, where Poles were resettled after 1945, in the process of co-creation/reception of their artistic work. An attempt will be made to answer the following questions: To what extent did the en plein air events and symposia de facto realize the ideas propagated by the communist authorities in Poland? Perhaps these artworks, originally intended by their creators to enliven the public space, are now perceived from the contemporary perspective and have finally triumphed over empty communist dialectics, creating artistic value that Pierre Bourdieu could include within the scope of objectified forms of cultural capital? Did they really contribute to the cultural ‘domestication’ of the northern and western territories, where the dicussed events were organized? Also, last but not least: the question concerning the nature of the aforementioned participation – what was the nature of the contribution from the individual participants to the co-creation and realization of the projects?
W niniejszym artykule przeanalizowano kilka wątków dotyczących tytułowych wydarzeń artystycznych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem działań lub projektów artystów włączających aktywnie zwykłych ludzi – mieszkańców zasiedlonych po 1945 roku Ziem Zachodnich i Północnych – w proces współtworzenia / odbioru dzieła. Została podjęta próba odpowiedzi na następujące pytania: na ile omawiane plenery i sympozja w rzeczywisty sposób realizowały idee propagowane przez władzę ludową? A może odczytywane z dzisiejszej perspektywy dzieła, świadomie w zamyśle autorów ingerujące w przestrzeń publiczną, ostatecznie „wygrały” z pustą dialektyką komunistyczną, tworząc dobra, które Pierre Bourdieu włączyłby w zakres uprzedmiotowionej formy kapitału kulturowego? Czy rzeczywiście przyczyniły się do „oswojenia” terenów północnych i zachodnich, na których zorganizowano omawiane imprezy? Ponadto last but not least: pytanie o naturę owej partycypacyjności – jaki charakter miał udział poszczególnych uczestników przy współtworzeniu projektów i realizacji?

Opis:
The article is an attempt to outline the theoretical and methodological refl ection on public history in the context of some conceptual models and concrete examples of case studies. Considering discursive situations, suppositions, suggestions and interpellations on the enlightenment postulate with regard to public history (including the issues: magistra vitae, emancipatory project, affi rmative history, emotive revolution, critical discourse in the public space, modus art based research) I deal with the issues: what is actually the content of public history: history or memory? Does the enlightenment postulate with regard to public history turn memory into history? Are we dealing with some project concocted by the intelligentsia and scientifi c elite? What are the current trends in the implementation of critical discourse in public history?

Opis:
Artykuł zapoznaje ze zjawiskiem występowania różnorodnych języków w przestrzeni publicznej miejscowości Scuol, słynnego kurortu oraz znaczącego centrum turystycznego w kantonie Gryzonia we wschodniej Szwajcarii. Oficjalnym językiem miasta jest język retoromański, jednak prawie wszyscy mieszkańcy posługują się płynnie także językiem niemieckim. Autor koncentruje się na analizie pejzażu językowego w obiektach użyteczności publicznej w komercyjnym centrum oraz historycznej części miejscowości. Z badania wypływa, że w pejzażu tym najczęściej można dostrzec teksty w języku reto‑ romańskim. Silnie zaznacza się także pozycja języka niemieckiego, który występuje zarówno w towarzystwie języka retoromańskiego, jak i samodzielnie. Użycie innych języków jest znacznie rzadsze. Różnorodny charakter tekstów retoromańskich i częstotliwość ich występowania świadczą o tym, że pomimo presji ze strony języka niemieckiego najstarszy język Szwajcarii odgrywa nadal ważną rolę w życiu mieszkańców Scuol.
This article discusses the phenomenon of the existence of different languages in the public space in Scuol, a famous health resort and tourist locality in the Swiss canton of Grisons. The official language of the town is Romansh, but almost all citizens speak fluently German. The author analyses visible texts in public institutions in the commercial center and in the old part of the village. The research shows that Romansh is the most visible language. German plays also an important role and appears with Romansh as well independent. The texts in other languages are rare. The various character of the texts in Romansh and their frequency demonstrate that the oldest language of Switzerland plays – despite the pressure from German – further an important role in the life of the inhabitants of Scuol.
