This paper outlines the main reading strategies of ecocriticism. Its main theoretical interest lies not in the pure extraction of literary motifs of Nature, but in the deconstruction of the diversity between Nature and Culture, representing Nature as the postmodern significant “Other” relating to contemporary environmental problems and thus exposing literary approaches in the past ( includingpostmodernism ) as anthropocentric. The main part of this paper focuses on the example of the application of ecocritical strategies in Đuro Sudeta’s modernist and impressionistic novella Mor, which leads to the suggestion of reforming conventional readings in traditional literary history.

Is it possible to talk of mental patterns underlying aesthetic reflections, and has the constant recurrence of particular ideas in the area of aesthetics some deeper explanation? Structural aesthetics of music is an authorial research conception which enables interpretation of phenomena from the area of history of music aesthetics, and in this way provides its systematised picture. The conception uses the ideas of structural linguistics: binary phonological opposition and the historicalliterary process in the approach of Jan Mukařovský. The article also contains an example of using this conception in relation to the aesthetics of antiquity (sophists, Plato, Aristotle), Descartes and impressionism.

Opis:
This article presents the economic and social transformations in the Netherlands from the end of the XVIIth century, to the beginning of the XXth century and the impact of those transformations on the development of housing in the country. Special emphasis is put on described and characteristic residential housing of the inner city, as well as the suburbian one, especially, those built during the high-point of the speculative movements within architecture. Moreover, the matter of availability of housing for the working class is considered.
W niniejszym artykule przedstawione zostały przesłanki, które legły u podstaw działań zmierzających do emancypacji środowiska twórców sztuk pięknych, rzemiosła artystycznego i architektury. Wskazano w nim na przenikanie się tych rodzajów twórczości. W dalszej kolejności przedstawiono podjęte przez twórców awangardowych działania w celu uniezależnienia się ich od wpływu szeroko rozumianego akademizmu. W końcowej części pracy scharakteryzowano następstwa tych działań.

Vladimir Jabotinskys Roman Die Fünf ist bei seinem Erscheinen in Deutschland (2012) als eine literarische Entdeckung gefeiert worden. In der Familiengeschichte der Milgroms aus dem Odessa der Jahre vor der Revolution von 1905 spiegeln sich Hoffnungen und Enttäuschungen der Revolution und der jüdischen Assimiliation, des Aufbruchs in eine neue Welt der Moderne und des Absturzes in eine Welt der brutalen Antimoderne. Der Beitrag untersucht die besonderen literarischen Strategien einer Arbeit an der Erinnerung: des Erzählens von Straßen, Plätzen und Räumen, der Analogisierung des politischen Geschehens mit einem Bühnengeschehen, der symbolistischen Überhöhung der Realität durch Rückgriff auf literarische Texte. Nichtnur aus politischen, auch aus erzählerischen Gründen wird Odessa in Jabotinkskys Roman also zu einem umstrittenen Erinnerungsort.

When Jabotinksys novel first appeared in Germany (2012) it was celebrated as a spectacular literary event. Jobtinsky’s Jewish family novel is situated in the decades before the revolution of 1905; it deals with revolutionary hope and disappointment, with Jewish assimiliation and the idea of a new liberal and tolerant world. It ends with a complete decline of these visions into brutal antimodernism. This article describes special narrative strategies in producing spaces of memory as streets, places and special public locations. Thereby political events appear as analogies to theater plays and also in a symbolistic framework. By this Jabotinskys novel has become a controversial space of memory not only for political but also literary reasons.

The idea of Europeanness and European identity rather than the national identity gains in relevance in view of the symbolic reorganization of the geographic spaces. Moreover, the national identity issues have somewhat lost importance in view of the global hazard of the COVID pandemic. The purpose of this paper is to debate the concept of Europeanness and to express an ambivalent position on this notion. Taking into consideration the most recent accomplishments of cultural theory I would like to demonstrate that the so-called European identity is a nostalgic object recalled to reminisce about the time when globalization and global threats did not exist at the scale comparable to the present. Or, the knowledge about them was patchy due to the undeveloped internet communication. Taking into consideration the explanations of Arjun Appadurai and Svetlana Boym, I will deconstruct the notion of Europeanness in view of a broad idea of nostalgia which according to Boym interprets the past as illusory and non-existent.

The content of the paper examines the intermediate dialogue of the poetic and artistic text on the paradigm of A.G. Matoš’s poetry and the painting created by Ljudevit Šestić and Josip Leović. The main thought derives from Miroslav Šincel’s ascertainment how the works of Matoš „mirror the most important features of our symbolical-impressionistic modernism”. Šestić’s continental landscape impressionist painting and Leović’s symbolism in his painting, open therefore the possibility of intermediate style, content and biographical link (Tovarnik, Osijek, Đakovo, Paris, music...), keeping in mind the different positioning on the map of national cultural heritage. And with Matoš’s pictorial construction of lyrical text and his artistic sensibility, that is very much possible. In the field of stylistic link, purity of style can be read out, but also stylistic impurities caused by a personal and Homeland fate. This paper is of culturological nature.

Szkic opowiada historię wczesnych związków pomiędzy awangardowym filmem niemym a poezją, przyglądając się w szczególności wypowiedziom programowym powiązanym z filmem francuskich impresjonistów. Poezja czy poetyckość była w manifestach i szkicach Ricciotta Canuda, Germaine Dulac czy Louisa Delluca często traktowana jako metaforycznie rozumiana przestrzeń odniesień wynikających z przekonania, że film jako nowa, „siódma” sztuka stanowi doskonałą syntezę właściwości pozostałych. Z poezją, awangardową poetyckością powiązał swoje koncepcje filmu bezpośrednio Jean Epstein, którego pisma miały w Polsce lat dwudziestych sporą i chłonną publiczność. Wiele z elementów jego teorii, powiązanych z ruchem filmowym i „fotogenicznością”, przeniknęło, czego próbuję tu dowieść, także do tekstów programowych polskiej awangardy poetyckiej.
The article tells the story of the early relations between avant-garde silent film and poetry, with a particular focus on critical texts and artistic manifestos from French Impressionist cinema. The poetry or poetic features of art were often evoked metaphorically in the manifestos and other writings produced by Ricciotto Canudo, Germaine Dulac and Louis Delluc. Poetry was treated as a general notion, affiliated with film, often called the “seventh art” and regarded to be the perfect synthesis of all the other arts. Jean Epstein, whose texts and manifestos were very popular in Poland in the 1920s, explicitly linked his theory of film to avant-garde poetry. I argue that many elements of Epstein’s theory, especially in regard to camera movement and photogénie, influenced critical texts and manifestos of the poetic avant-garde in Poland.

The material basis of the paper is an unpublished collection of 47 sonnets by Wincenty Byrski, a poet from Podbeskidzie region. The author of the study discusses the language level of the poems (mainly lexis) in order to reconstruct the picture of Cracow preserved in the texts. Dzieła Adama Chmielowskiego do dziś nie są powszechnie znane, jakkolwiek relacje współczesnych mu i późniejszych malarzy dowodzą, iż pod wieloma względami był w historii polskiej sztuki prekursorem impresjonizmu i symbolizmu – zarówno w twórczości malarskiej, jak i teoretycznej („O istocie sztuki”). Był wybitnym kolorystą, koncentrował się na estetycznych i emocjonalnych aspektach krajobrazu, jego pejzaże o wyraźnych cechach synestetycznych (rytm, harmonia, nastrojowość; powtarzające się motywy, zestrojenia barwne) stanowią zaproszenie do kontemplacji.
Adam Chmielowski’s artistic output has not been made widely known up to now, although the reports of his contemporary artists as well as the ones of later generations prove that in many respects he was a precursor of impressionism and symbolism in the history of Polish art – both in his artistic works and the theoretical ones („About the Essence of Art”). He was an outstanding colourist focused upon the aesthetic and emotional aspects of scenery; his landscapes of pronounced synesthetic values ( rhythm, harmony, feeling; repeated motifs, colour schemes) invite the viewers to contemplation.

W artykule pt. Ukraińskie malarstwo XIX i XX wieków: zarys głównych nurtów zostały przedstawione najważniejsze tendencje w malarstwie ukraińskim ostatnich dwóch stuleci. Zaprezentowano sylwetki głównych artystów związanych z nurtem akademizmu, realizmu i impresjonizmu, tworzących portrety, pejzaże i sceny rodzajowe. Osobne miejsce poświęcono niezwykle istotnym dla rozwoju malarstwa ukraińskiego – pieriedwiżnikom (przedstawicielom kierunku realistycznego) i specyfice ich twórczości. Na konkretnych przykładach artystów i ich dzieł scharakteryzowano przenikanie impresjonizmu do sztuki ukraińskiej. Podkreślono wpływ sytuacji społeczno-politycznej na stan i rozwój malarstwa ukraińskiego w XIX i XX stuleciach.
In the article Ukrainian painting of the 19th and 20th centuries: an outline of the main trends were presented the most important tendencies in Ukrainian painting of the last two centuries. Key figures in the development of realistic trends have been shown in such directions as portraits, landscape paintings and genre scenes. The most known works of painters were presented. An important role for the development of Ukrainian painting was presented, as well as the role of painters – pieriedwiznik’s (representatives of the realistic direction in Ukrainian painting) and the specificity of their work. On concrete examples of artists, painters from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the penetration of Impressionism in Ukrainian art and its gradual manifestations in creativity were documented.
