Zarówno ich wyznaczanie, jak i przekraczanie, jest kwestią celów, jakie możemy i chcemy postawić sobie w kontekście istniejącego ładu, w który staramy się wpisać, przekształcając go lub dostosowując się do niego. La question d’image reste un sujet sensible dans le dialogue entre les chrétiens et les musulmans. Pour l’aborder, l’article commence par une courte présentation des principales caractéristiques de l’attitude des musulmans à l’égard des images et de l’art en général. Afin de brosser un tableau assez complet des réactions chrétiennes à cette attitude, l’article présente les textes écrits par les auteurs chrétiens qui représentent les trois traditions syriaques: les melkites, les syriaques occidentaux (monophysites) et les orientaux (nestoriens). Les auteurs syriaques ont élaboré des théologies de l’image peu connues, mais particulièrement originales. Leurs réponses reflètent un éventail des conceptions chrétiennes de l’image, héritées du judaïsme, élaborées au long des confrontations avec le polythéisme anthropomorphe des Grecs et à partir du 8e siècle soumises à des vérifications théologiques par la crise de l’iconoclasme byzantin. Cet héritage théologique est déployé en faveur du culte des images, mais de manière la mieux adaptée qui soit à l’interlocuteur musulman et avec toujours une plus grande connaissance de l’islam.
The place of paintings and other works of art in religion have always been a thorny issue in the Christian-Muslim dialogue. The first part of this article presents a general overview of the Muslims' stance on the cult of images. The second part offers a broad array of Christian responses to it, as expressed by the writers of the Christian-Syriac traditions: Melchites, Western Syrians (Monophysites) and Eastern Syrians (Nestorians). Their theology of the image - sadly still little known - solidly based on the core Christian believes, enhanced by certain Judaistic elements, challenged by the anthropomorphic polytheism of the Greeks, and tried in the furnace of the theological discourse during the troubled times of the iconoclastic controversies, is immensely rich and meaningful. They speak in favour of the cult of images, though postulate a measure of caution in their application in the liturgy. Their manner of presenting their arguments betrays a good knowledge of Islam and is geared towards accommodating the potential apprehensions of their Muslim counterparts.
Postrzeganie obrazu (i dzieł sztuki jako takich) jest trudnym tematem w dialogu chrześcijańsko-muzułmańskim. Podejmując tę kwestię, autorka najpierw ogólnie prezentuje stanowisko muzułmanów wobec kultu obrazów. Następnie ukazuje szerokie spektrum reakcji wybranych teologów chrześcijańskich na taką percepcję kultu wizerunków. Wybór autorów chrześcijańskich ogranicza się do trzech tradycji syryjskich: melchickiej, syryjskiej zachodniej (monofizyci) oraz syryjskiej wschodniej (nestorianie). Autorzy ci reprezentują bogatą i zróżnicowaną chrześcijańską koncepcję obrazu, która ciągle pozostaje mało znana. Ich teologiczna koncepcja obrazu - od początku naznaczona elementami zaczerpniętymi z judaizmu - wypracowana została w konfrontacji z antropomorficznym politeizmem Greków, a następnie poddana teologicznej krytyce w epoce ikonoklazmu bizantyjskiego. Wspomniana teologia, wykazująca znajomość islamu oraz zdolność pozyskania sobie muzułmańskiego interlokutora, pozostaje przychylna kultowi obrazów, mimo pewnych zastrzeżeń natury teologicznej oraz specyficznej koncepcji roli obrazów w liturgii.

Opis:
A disparity servoing based fast autofocusing method is proposed for stereomicroscopes according to linear relationship between the disparity change in stereomicroscopic images and the move distance of a motorized translation stage. For a certain stereomicroscope, the calibration of a disparity range of clear images at each magnification is implemented offline. After that, the disparity of the stereomicroscopic image is used as an index to represent the sharpness of an arbitrary image. If the disparity does not satisfy the requirement, move steps and direction of a step motor are calculated by utilizing the linear relationship between the disparity change and the move distance of the stage. The iteration will be continued until the disparity of the captured stereomicroscopic image approximates to the clearest disparity. The experimental results show that the proposed method only requires a few iterations and less time to reach the focus position, and the disparity error is less than 0.5 pixel.

The article deals with the complex process of creating a country image, both at home and abroad. It consists of two parts, being interrelated with each other, however not in a direct way. In part one the focus is laid on the image of India created by Indians themselves, which is partly a result of the grand economic transformation initiated in the beginning of the 1990s, and partly a heritage of much older cultural and political tradition. In part two the case of India’s changing image in Poland is analyzed, viz. the case of a country, which unlike other European states, never ventured to establish its own political presence overseas, but nevertheless it was able to build a complex structure of various images of the civilization it hardly had any direct political contact with.

Noise removal in IR (Infra Red) images is very popular in recent years, however the same approach is utilized as for vision images, with no or minor changes. In this work we wanted to show the results of noise removal for selected filters. We focused on investigation of some filters normally used for image processing and their influence to IR image quality. In IR imaging the choice of filter depends mainly on the purpose of the processing, e.g. detection of small objects in complex images, edge and contour detection or removal of non-uniformity of the detector array. The performance of the selected noise reduction filters was evaluated using PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) and MAE (Mean Absolute Error) quality measure, greater value of the PSNR and lower value of the MAE indicate better noise reduction. The results are shown only for few images from our database which contain over 2000 of IR images.

In ECDIS systems, the radar display is overlapping the chart at the position set out by GPS or other navigational system. In case this information is lost, the radar image is overlapping the point of the reckoned position. The paper presents a different method of integration of the radar image with ECDIS system display. At this stage, using the comparative methods applied in navigation has been suggested. They are associated with methods of digital displays' acquisition and processing.

The aim of the presentation is an attempt of a new approach to the matters of regionalization of geographical space and valorization of scenic units made from the outside reference point (in the orthogonal grid). Such an opportunity to take a look from another perspective is given by analysis of aerial and satellite photos, and DTM. Regardless of the adopted way of perceiving the landscape: either as a peculiar spatial structural-material unit (an approach typical of natural sciences), or a physiognomic approach (typical of humanist and technical sciences), the landscape requires appropriate categorization and evaluation. The presentation shows methods which allow for multi-criterion evaluation of spatial units, and then basing on this, suggest possibilities of new spatial divisions. From the point of view of analysis of Sat images and DTM, the most important methods include: Cartographic methods, like: bonitation method, matrix method of determining landscape value, landscape model as surface features, method of determining boundaries and ranges of scenic units, their features, intensity, needs, significance, relations, etc., method of cartometric determination of outlines of objects (scenic units) as basic fields of evaluation – determination of shape and size; Terrain methods used mainly in landscape architecture, like: method of scenic interiors and units, method of impression curve by Wejchert, method of rural landscape classification by Sóhngen, “photographic” method by Cymerman and Hopper, Methods of landscape evaluation based on the infrastructure value (landscape as an element of the cultural-architectonical value) e.g. evaluation and valorization of landscape by means of assessing the value of object included in it, e.g. property, building structures, monuments; Methods of functional evaluation e.g. agricultural, forest, urban, etc.; Methods of evaluation of the photo-tonal value (colour range); Methods of landscape evaluation by means of selected statistical parameters (e.g.) basing on provisions of the fuzzy set theory for the value of space represented by the open space index, characterized by parameters of descriptive statistics. These methods will be presented using several examples of open space value estimation procedures in LandSat photos and DEM models from the region of Nigeria. The presentation will continue with selected methods being used for identifycation and determination of the range of uniform scenic value zones and transitional zones. Cartometric extractions of outlines of scenic units as basic fields of evaluation will be shown, types of landscape discussed and basic statistics describing its structure presented. The authors will also refer to the issues of limits of landscape use and their practical meaning, e.g. in tourist terms. At attempt of classification and valorization of separated fields has been presented, along with estimation of the level of their uniformity, rank and usability.

Zauważalny kryzys sztuki kościelnej to między innymi wszechobecność kiczu, definiowanego jako konsekwencja kultury masowej, stosującego wysoki styl do wyrażenia idei estetycznie niższej. Kicz, wyrastając z gloryfikacji banału, nie zaspokaja potrzeby piękna, jest bowiem dziełem o niewielkiej wartości artystycznej, niepogłębionym tworem, kierowanym do przeciętnych gustów, utrwalającym stereotypowe poglądy. Do najważniejszych fenomenów sztuki należą kultowe wizerunki. Kult obrazów był znany w cesarstwie bizantyjskim, gdzie powstało wiele pierwowzorów, między innymi ikona Hodegetrii – Matki Bożej Przewodniczki, ukazanej z Dzieciątkiem, Które wskazuje tzw. gestem Hodegetrii. Do szczególnej sławy przedstawień maryjnych przyczyniła się legenda o pierwszym portreciście, którym miał być św. Łukasz Ewangelista. Obrazy obdarzone szczególną mocą charakteryzują się pewnymi cechami: zostały znalezione w niespodziewanych miejscach (np. w lesie, przy studni lub źródełku, na przydrożnym drzewie), były źródłem niezwykłego blasku, „pociły się”, „płakały” lub krwawiły, przeniesione do kaplicy, dworu lub chaty, wracały na miejsce znalezienia, gdzie objawiały niezwykłą moc. Objawione na Podlasiu ikony maryjne odzwierciedlały cechy lokalnej kultury, podatnej na wpływy z różnych kierunków. Stopniowa latynizacja sztuki cerkiewnej, szczególnie na obszarach kulturowego pogranicza, nie powinna być postrzegana w kategoriach polityczno-konfesyjnych. Takie procesy są przejawem naturalnej osmozy kulturowej i indywidualnych aspiracji zleceniodawców, pragnących podnieść swój prestiż fundacjami wzorowanymi na najlepszych (według ówczesnych kryteriów) artystycznych wzorach. Tworzone w tym kręgu dzieła charakteryzował koloryt lokalny i stylowo-ikonograficzny, który nie może być oceniany dziewiętnastowiecznymi kryteriami estetycznymi, ani też koncepcjami „czystości stylowej”, lecz postrzegany w szerszym kontekście przemian kulturowych
Among the most important phenomena of the Christian religion there are images to which the faith ascribes supernatural properties, primarily the possibility of healing and defense against danger. In the area of the historic Podlasie such images often manifested themselves particularly frequently in the seventeenth century, when Podlasie was the theater of war, of devastating marches of troops, and of plagues and famine. Unusual pictures (images and icons) manifested themselves on trees (Leśna Podlaska, Puchły, Krypno), mystically prevented themselves from catching fire (Stary Kornin), or after a few years of functioning in a temple (Juchnowiec, Strabla) or in a manor house (Różanystok) manifested their supernatural power. It is a phenomenon of religious culture of Podlasie to adopt the iconographic patterns of iconic Catholic images by the Uniate Church, and after its abolition — by the Orthodox Church (Puchły, Kożany), as well as veneration of icons in Catholic churches (Juchnowiec, Strabla).

The subject of this paper is automatic matching of point as well the correlation conditions. Tor this purpose the authors develop the experimental program which matches feature points in aerial and cosmos stereo image overlap and estimate results simultaneously. The examples for 10 aerial stereo images and cosmos stereo image indicate that using of operators Sobel and LoG leads to good results as interest operators.
Przedstawiony artykuł jest poświęcony metodom wyznaczenia punktów z lepszymi charakterystykami korelacyjnymi dla identyfikacji punktów na stereoskopowych zdjęciach lotniczych i satelitarnych. Dla opracowania wyników eksperymentów napisano program komputerowy na Delphi-5. Wykonane prace eksperymentalne na 10 zdjęciach pokazują celowość wykorzystania operatorów Sobela i LoG dla znajdywania punktów przydatnych dla identyfikacji.

In this article, I describe the way in which images come into being in the mind of the protagonist of the book W Central Parku [In Central Park] by Wojciech Karpiński. I analyze the protagonist’s behavior in the perspective of Antonio Damasio’s neurobiological research. Memory is one of the factors that participate in the creation of images in the artist’s mind. It is a dynamic phenomenon that collects memories evoked by various stimuli. It also participates in the creation of the autobiographical ‘self’ of the protagonist.

In the book Regarding the Pain of Others Susan Sontag tackles the problem of war photography as a mean of mobilization of anti-war opposition. She mentions also the tradition of pictorial representations of ‘disasters of war’ as well as the western ‘iconography of suffering’. In her erudite essay, Sontag chose to omit German ‘Bildhistoriker’, Aby Warburg (1886-1929). Warburg’s concept of genesis of images from the spirit of suffering and his contribution to the study of visual aspects of war are the subjects of the present essay.

Automatyzacja procesu wyznaczania elementów orientacji zdjęć jest jednym z najważniejszych zadań współczesnej fotogrametrii. W artykule przedstawiono metodę wyznaczania elementów transformacji z układu współrzędnych obiektu do układu współrzędnych tłowych, gdy znane są pewne szczególne geometryczne cechy obiektów. W pracy podano teoretyczne podstawy rozwiązania. Opracowany komputerowy program pozwolił na sprawdzenie poprawności przyjętego rozwiązania. Przedstawiony przykład pokazuje zastosowanie tej metody w rekonstrukcji obiektów.

Opis:
Narrative developments often stem from images in Dany Laferrière’s work. On the other hand, some of the narration in Laferrière’s fiction and nonfiction is synthesized in narrative snapshots that resemble descriptions. Temporal dimension plays a key role in this constant shift between image and imagination, because, as Didi-Huberman has shown, images carry an anachronistic element. This element also allows Laferrière and his narrators to use mainly simple present tense, even when the content of the narration is set in the past. Nevertheless, images are never explained or rationalized in Laferrière’s work, which keeps the mystery and ambiguity that characterize visual representations.
