    Opis:
    The paper presents an algorithm enabling a fully automatic detection of characteristic areas on thermograms containing patients' faces in a front projection. A resolution of problems occurring at the segmentation of face images, such as a change of position, orientation and scale, has been proposed. In addition, attempts to eliminate the effect of the background and of disturbances caused by the haircut and the hairline were made. The algorithm may be used to detect selected points and areas of a face or as a preliminary component in the face recognition, as a development of optical analysis methods or in the quantitative analysis of face on thermograms.

    Opis:
    The paper presents new methods for estimating effective coverage of the image databases in spatial information (SI) vs. colorfulness (CF) space. Existing and commonly used metrics are vulnerable to databases containing very different images in terms of SI and CF, which can maximize the relative ranges, while preserving, in specific cases, high uniformity. The area covered by convex hull created on SI × CF space can be large, but the interior of the convex envelope might be poorly filled. To overcome this flaw, a fill factor is proposed, which determines how well the convex hull area is utilized. In the paper the method is described in details and presented on a few existing databases, as well as on artificial, non-existing databases to prove its robustness in different scenarios. Provided results show that new metric is closer to the actual coverage than existing methods.

    The article presents a new technique for measuring paper deformation in unidirectional tensile tests, based on recording and analysis of a series of specimen images. The proposed technique differs from the DIC-based deformation measurement in that the cross-correlation of image data has been replaced with linear filtering. For this purpose, a regular grid of markers is printed on the sample. Filtering the image creates local maxima in the places where markers occur. The developed algorithm finds their location with sub-pixel accuracy. Printing a grid of markers on tested paper and use of reference objects visible in the same image as the paper sample, freed from the need to mechanically connect the camera and the universal testing machine and from the necessity to electronically synchronize their work. The obtained deformation distributions and Poisson’s ratios are in accordance with the literature data which confirms the correctness of the developed measurement technique.

    Opis:
    Monitoring of activated sludge flocs may provide important information for effective operation and control of wastewater treatment. The research objective is to demonstrate methodology for activated sludge image processing aimed to describe morphological characteristics of activated sludge flocs. The proposed software- -based method was presented and verified by analysis of several activated sludge samples. The results show high efficiency of image segmentation and floc recognition of more than 94% floc components. The analysis of a series of 50 pictures gives rapid and reliable results and can be performed in an automatic or semiautomatic mode. Given inherent heterogeneity of activated sludge flocs, multiple and repeated sample images capture (processing of 50 pictures at a time, repeated at least 4 times ) is recommended.
    Analiza mikroskopowa osadu czynnego może dostarczyć ważnych informacji dla prawidłowego funkcjonowania i kontroli oczyszczania ścieków. Celem badań jest przedstawienie procedury przetwarzania i analizy obrazów osadu czynnego zmierzające do opisania cech morfologicznych kłaczków. Program DAIME użyto do oceny parametrów kłaczków osadu czynnego. Proponowana procedura wykorzystania tego programu została przedstawiona i zweryfikowana poprzez analizę kilku próbek osadu czynnego w maksymalnie 6 powtórzeniach. Każda seria składała się z 10 do 70 obrazów. Analizowane kłaczki zliczono a wyniki zmierzonych parametrów morfologicznych kłaczków poddano analizie statystycznej. Wyniki przetwarzania obrazu zostały pokazane jako prezentacja obrazów z kolejnych kroków analizy. Wyniki pomiarów parametrów morfologicznych wskazują na wysoką efektywność segmentacji obrazu i rozpoznawania kłaczków wynoszącą ponad 94%. Wielkość kłaczków została wybrana spośród dostępnych parametrów, aby pokazać ile obrazów należy poddać obróbce i w ilu powtórzeniach wykonać analizę, aby uzyskać wiarygodne wyniki analizy. Program DAIME umożliwia dobrą segmentację i nadaje się do przetwarzania i pomiar parametrów morfologicznych kłaczków osadu czynnego. Analiza serii składającej się z 50 zdjęć jest szybka, może być automatyczny lub półautomatyczny, a daje wiarygodne wyniki. W świetle heterogeniczności osadu czynnego zalecane jest wykonanie ponad 4 powtórzeń (czterokrotne przetwarzanie co najmniej 50 zdjęć).

    Opis:
    The article proposes an algorithm for detection of orientation of acorns during scarification process. This task is necessary for proper cut off of a part of acorn. Described algorithm uses Harris corner detector for location of acorn's remain of style. The performed tests have shown that proposed method is characterized by a sufficient sensitivity value as a unit of efficiency. Its specificity and precision are also high.
    W artykule przedstawiono propozycję algorytmu detekcji orientacji żołędzi w procesie automatycznej skaryfikacji żołędzi. Określenie orientacji jest konieczne w celu właściwego wykonania odcięcia części nasiona. Opisany algorytm wykorzystuje detektor Harrisa do wykrywania korzenia zarodkowego. Przeprowadzone testy pokazały, że metoda cechuje się wystarczającą wartością czułości jako miary wydajności. Specyficzność oraz precyzja również są wysokie.
