Many idiomatic expressions specific to the French language have been translated into Arabic in favour of the contact between these two languages. However, these expressions cannot be easily located in Arabic since they receive a new texture, while taking advantage of this idiom’s linguistic material. However, in order to stay faithful to the target language, these expressions should respect a few particular settings that are not fully respected, which makes recognizing them even harder. The semantic aspect added to the contextual reference allows us to identify this kind of calque.

Opis:
The collection of interpretative functions used at three stages of interpretation (the ordering phase, the restructuring phase and the perceptive phase) create a normative conception of the interpretation of law which in its primary form was first presented by Maciej Zieliński in 1969. It was later described fully by the same author in his monograph Wykładnia prawa. Zasady, reguły, wskazówki published in 2002. Under this conception it is assumed that interpretation is always done omnia sunt interpretanda and that the text of a legislative act is ways of expressing norms in legal provisions, which requires their reconstruction (syntax-wise, logic-wise and content-wise) and subsequent equivalencing meaning-wise. The result of the activities undertaken by the legislator, after the linguistic, systemic and functional directives have been applied in accordance with the principle of interpretatio cessat post applicationem trium typorum directionae – a legal norm understood as a complete (syntax-, content- and logic-wise) expression sufficiently unambiguous at the given interpretative moment.
Zbiór dyrektyw interpretacyjnych stosowanych w trzech fazach wykładni (fazie porządkującej, fazie rekonstrukcyjnej i fazie percepcyjnej) tworzy normatywną koncepcję wykładni prawa, której pierwotną wersję przedstawił w 1969 r. Maciej Zieliński, a w pełni zaprezentował w monografii Wykładnia prawa. Zasady, reguły, wskazówki w 2002 r. W koncepcji tej przyjmuje się, że interpretacji dokonuje się zawsze (omnia sunt interpretanda) i podlega jej tekst aktu prawnego, który ze względu na swoiste cechy związane z quasi-idiomatycznością oraz różnymi sposobami wyrażanie norm w przepisach prawnych, wymaga przeprowadzenia czynności rekonstrukcyjnych (syntaktycznie, logicznie i treściowo) oraz ujednoznaczniających. Natomiast rezultatem działań interpretatora – po zastosowaniu dyrektyw językowych, dyrektyw systemowych i dyrektyw funkcjonalnych zgodnie z zasadą interpretatio cessat post applicationem trium typorum directionae – jest norma prawna rozumiana jako zupełna (syntaktycznie, treściowo i logicznie) wypowiedź dostatecznie jednoznaczna w wybranym momencie interpretacyjnym.

Each of the round anniversaries of the Queen’s reign took place in a different socio-political climate, reflecting the dynamics of change in the United Kingdom. Elizabeth II celebrated the Silver Jubilee in 1977, the Golden Jubilee in 2002, the Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the Sapphire Jubilee of her reign in 2017 and finally, in 2022, the Platinum Jubilee. Although so much has changed since the Silver Jubilee, the Queen, through the preservation of her stance, has become a symbol of constancy and stability not only among Britons or Commonwealth citizens but perhaps also among people from other cultural areas of the world. All those anniversaries were abundantly and thoroughly reported in various national newspapers. However, the language applied to present the 2022 Platinum Jubilee by the popular press, and the language employed by the quality press to describe the same event differed significantly. The case study presented in this article shows how popular press representatives such as “Daily Mirror”, “The Sun” and “Sunday Mirror” and quality press representatives, “The Guardian” and “The Sunday Times” vary linguistically while delivering the same information to the reader. The case study contains the frequency and choice of idiomatic application, play on words and overall cultural significance.
Jedes der runden Regierungsjubiläen der Queen fand in einem anderen gesellschaftspolitischen Klima statt, das die Dynamik des Wandels im Vereinigten Königreich widerspiegelt. Elizabeth II. feierte 1977 das Silberne Jubiläum, 2002 das Goldene Jubiläum, 2012 das Diamantene Jubiläum, 2017 das Saphirjubiläum ihrer Regierungszeit und schließlich 2022 das Platinjubiläum. Obwohl sich seit dem Silberjubiläum so viel verändert hat, ist die Queen durch die Bewahrung ihrer Haltung nicht nur unter Briten oder Commonwealth-Bürgern, sondern vielleicht auch unter Menschen aus anderen Kulturkreisen der Welt zu einem Symbol für Beständigkeit und Stabilität geworden. Über alle diese Jahrestage wurde reichlich und ausführlich in verschiedenen überregionalen Zeitungen berichtet. Die Sprache, die von der Publikumspresse zur Präsentation des Platinjubiläums 2022 verwendet wurde, und die Sprache, die von der Qualitätspresse zur Beschreibung desselben Ereignisses verwendet wurde, unterscheiden sich jedoch erheblich. Die in diesem Artikel vorgestellte Fallstudie zeigt, wie populäre Pressevertreter wie “Daily Mirror”, “The Sun” and “Sunday Mirror” und Qualitätspressevertreter “The Guardian” und “The Sunday Times” sprachlich variieren, während sie dem Leser die gleichen Informationen liefern. Die Fallstudie untersucht die Häufigkeit und Wahl der idiomatischen Ausdrücke, des Wortspiels und die allgemeine kulturelle Bedeutung.

Opis:
Senses are the organs of perception which allow our body to contribute to the understanding of the external world. Many anthropologists and philosophers have already suggested that there are hierarchies between the senses in many different cultures. For example, the importance of the olfactory sense is often neglected in western societies. This issue can be confirmed by the lack of lexiconand linguistic forms related to the verbal representation of the olfaction.                                                                                 This study aims to detect the potential existence of productive syntactic and semantic patterns within the idiomatic olfactory expressions used in French and Hungarian. Our results indicate thatthere are syntactic and semantic patterns in the two languages under study. The semantic patterns entirely coincide, and the syntactic combinations, although the structure of both languages does notresemble each other, can be considered as equivalents.

Zmysły są narządami percepcji, które pozwalają ciału rozumieć świat zewnętrzny. Wielu antropologów i filozofów twierdziło, że istnieją hierarchie zmysłów w zależności od kultury. Dla przykładu,zmysł węchu jest zaniedbany w zachodnich społeczeństwach. Jest to potwierdzone brakiem słownictwa i innych form językowych odnoszących się do węchu.Niniejsze studium próbuje wykryć potencjalne wzory syntaktyczne i semantyczne w idiomach języka francuskiego oraz węgierskiego dotyczących węchu. Schematy takie istnieją, choć struktury języków nie są do siebie podobne.

The paper presents the analysis of types of modifications in idiomatic expressions based on the particular examples extracted from comments and opinions from press texts in both Polish and French Internet editions. The main task of the analysis was to reveal the diversity of the operations and to compare how they function in both languages. The review of the examples from the presented phraseological innovations proves that both common as well as different operations exist for both Polish and French. Some modifications have the effect of word games allowing to activate a literal sense or a new meaning in a context.
Dans cet article, nous étudions les différents types de modifications des unités phraséologiques qui apparaissent dans les textes de presse électronique française et polonaise et les commentaires sous les articles en ligne. Notre objectif principal était de décrire le fonctionnement de ces unités dans le discours journalistique et de montrer la diversité des procédés utilisés en français et en polonais. Notre analyse a permis de détecter les opérations communes et celles qui sont caractéristiques pour les deux langues comparées. Certaines modifications ont pour effet les jeux de mots permettant d’activer un sens littéral ou un sens nouveau actualisé dans un contexte adéquat.
W artykule przeanalizowano pod różnym kątem przykłady modyfikacji związków frazeologicznych, pochodzące z komentarzy i wypowiedzi do tekstów prasowych w polskich i francuskich wydaniach internetowych. Głównym zadaniem było pokazanie różnorodności użytych środków oraz porównanie sposobu ich funkcjonowania w obu językach. Analiza przykładów innowacji frazeologicznych dowodzi, że istnieją operacje zarówno wspólne, jak i odmienne dla obu systemów językowych. W niektórych modyfikacjach występuje gra słów, w której aktualne staje się znaczenie dosłowne związku lub w odpowiednim kontekście pojawia się nowe znaczenie.

Yoji jukugo are idioms comprised of four characters (kanji) that can be used to enhance the textuality of a Japanese Shakespeare translation, whether in response to Shakespeare’s rhetoric or as compensation for the tendency of translation to be carried out at a lower textual register than the source. This article examines their use in two translations each of Julius Caesar by Matsuoka Kazuko (2014) and Fukuda Tsuneari (1960) and of The Merry Wives of Windsor by Matsuoka (2001) and Odashima Yūshi (1983); in both cases Matsuoka uses significantly more yoji jukugo than her predecessors. In the Julius Caesar translations their usage is noticeable in the set speeches by Antony and Brutus in 3.2, and commonly denote baseness or barbarity. In the Merry Wives translations they commonly denote dissolute behaviour, often for comic effect, and can even be used malapropistically in the target language.

Autor článku chce především ukázat, jak jsou Češi obecně vnímáni a charakterizováni v okruhu popisované domény kinematografie. Vybral si pro účel tohoto příspěvku český komediální televizní seriál pojmenovaný Hospoda, ve kterém je hodně příkladů týkajících se autocharakteristiky vlastností českého etnika. Všechny uvedené českojazyčné příklady s vyprofilovaným „národnostním komponentem” jsou vážně brány současnou lingvistikou jako ukazatel stereotypu, který je pevně zakotven v kulturně jazykovém kódu. Ve většině analyzovaných příkladů všichni herci v tomto zaprezentovaném seriálu poukazovali na lidské vady a jejich nedokonalosti a právě díky nim si český divák (reprezentující příslušníky zmíněného národa) může své nedostatky lépe uvědomovat. 
The author of this article above all wishes to show how the Czech are perceived and characterized within the described domain of cinematography. For the purpose of this article the author had chosen a Czech sitcom entitled Hospoda (The Inn), which contains numerous examples of self characteristics of the Czech ethnic group. All the Czech language examples with the highlighted „national component” placed here are treated by modern linguistics seriously as the stereotype coefficient, which is deep-set in cultural linguistic code. In most of the analyzed examples all the actors of the presented sitcom were able to accurately point human faults and imperfections. It is thanks to them that Czech audience (the representatives of the nation) are able to realize their shortcomings.

The following paper investigates the nature of idiomatic expressions for emotions and analyses them in Polish and Norwegian. Emotions are a phenomenon universal for all human beings, yet their perception and expression differs across cultures. It seems to be a tendency in all languages to ‘somatize’ emotions, that is to place them in the human body, the nearest reference point. However, explaining this tendency by physiology is not always plausible as shown in the conducted study on expressions using internal organs and bodily liquids in Polish and Norwegian. Expressions that bear most similarity between languages coming from the same culture circle are not those motivated by physiology, but by culture, as for example those originating from Hippocratic humoral doctrine. Metaphorical mechanisms, claimed by some linguists to be universal, for example the so called container metaphor, are also to be found in the analyzed material. It has been proven that culture can influence the construction and perception of emotions. The language of emotions, which by default is a part of culture, calls therefore for more attention from researchers in all fields dealing with this topic.

This paper is dedicated to the description of the idiomatic expression zamienić się w słup soli in contemporary Polish. First of all, the origin of this word combination was presented, and next – its lexicographic condition. Moreover, phraseological modifications were discussed (exchange, development, shortening and regulation), which a given idiomatic expression undergoes. Linguistic material was excerpted from the National Corpus of Polish and Internet sites.

This article presents specific dictionary analytisms and idiomatic phrases used in the Polish language of Kurier Wileński in the interwar period. I have found 50 dictionary analytisms (7 citations included) and 5 idioms (1 citation included). Amongst specific analytisms the Russicisms dominate: 31 items. Older Polish vocabulary creates a large group: 10 items. Six out of these phrases stand for recessive elements, four – are a part of obsolete lexis. One ephemeral unit (narzędzia moczowe) and one regionalism (skład apteczny) have appeared. The genesis of 5 unique idiomatic phrases excerpted from Kurier Wileński is shown in a following way: 3 Russicisms, 1 Ukrainian or Bielarusian borrowing (duby smalone), 1 idiomatic phrase of an unknown origin (ruszać się jak mucha w śmietanie). The textual frequency of appearance of all the collected peculiar lexical phenomena was in total 81 examples. As the analysis denoted, in the second decade of the period between the Wars the language of the editors of Kurier Wileński was less saturated with uniqueness than in the first ten years after the First World War. It could be – yet in the weak form – the result of contact of the Vilnius Region with ethnic Poland lands within one country.
W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono osobliwe analityzmy słownikowe i frazeologizmy funkcjonujące w polszczyźnie „Kuriera Wileńskiego” w dwudziestoleciu międzywojennym. Z badanej gazety wyekscerpowano łącznie 50 analityzmów słownikowych (w tym 7 cytatów) i 5 frazeologizmów (w tym 1 cytat). W grupie osobliwych analityzmów dominują rusycyzmy: 31 jednostek. Stosunkowo licznie reprezentowane jest starsze słownictwo ogólnopolskie: 10 jednostek. Sześć spośród nich to elementy recesywne, 4 leksemy należą zaś do leksyki przestarzałej. W badanym dzienniku napotkano 1 jednostkę efemeryczną (narzędzia moczowe) oraz 1 regionalizm (skład apteczny). Geneza 5 osobliwych frazeologizmów wynotowanych z KW przedstawia się następująco: 3 rusycyzmy, 1 ukrainizm lub białorutenizm (duby smalone), 1 frazeologizm o niejasnym pochodzeniu (ruszać się jak mucha w śmietanie). Frekwencja tekstowa wszystkich zgromadzonych osobliwych jednostek leksykalnych była niewielka i wynosiła łącznie 81 wystąpień. Jak wykazała analiza, w drugim dziesięcioleciu okresu międzywojennego język redaktorów KW był nieco mniej nasycony osobliwościami niż w pierwszych latach po I wojnie światowej. Mógł to być – słaby jeszcze – efekt zbliżenia Wileńszczyzny z Polską etniczną w granicach jednego państwa.

Einführung und Ziele: Der Beitrag präsentiert Voraussetzungen des Kognitivismus und der Kognitiven Linguistik und stützt sich auf Begriffe wie Konzept, Konzeptualisation, kognitives Modell, Projektion, Metapher, Phraseologism, Idiom. Eine der Grundvoraussetzungen der kognitiven Theorien ist, dass sprachliche Strukturen aus der Interaktion des Menschen mit seiner Umgebung resultieren und konzeptuellen, darunter nicht objektiven und teilweise arbiträren Charakter haben. Erfahrung, Denken und Sprache sind metaphorischer Art und mit einander verbunden. Das Ziel des Beitrags ist, Methoden und Ergebnisse der kognitiven Forschung darzulegen und sie am sprachlichen Material aus dem Bereich der Phraseologie und Idiomatik zu besprechen. Materialien und Methoden: Das Material liegt in Bearbeitungen aus dem Gebiet der Kognitiven Linguistik, von klassischen Arbeiten bis eingehenden kontrastiv-vergleichenden Analysen, vor. Ergebnisse: Die Besprechung der Postulate der kognitiven Forschung in der Linguistik, Phraseologie und Idiomatik zeigt, dass kognitive Methoden für die Charakteristik von bestimmten Typen er Phraseologismen und auf bestimmten Etappen der Analyse zufrieden stellend sind. Fazit: Das Wesen und die Vielfältigkeit der Phraseologie verlangen Untersuchung ihrer ihre kulturellen und kultursemiotischen Implikationen, dabei Anwendung von Methoden, die sie erklären.
Introduction and aim: The paper presents the assumptions of Cognitive Science and Cognitive Linguistics and deals with topics such as concept, conceptualization, cognitive model, projection, metaphor, phraseologism, idiom. One of the most important theoretical points of Cognitive Linguistics is the assumption, that the language structures occur in interaction with the world and are of conceptual, also non objective and partly arbitrary kind. Human experience, thought and language are of metaphorical art and are linked up. The point of the paper is to present the assumptions, methods and results of Cognitive Science and Cognitive Linguistics and apply them to the research area of phraseology and idiomatics. Material and methods: The material is the previous research of Cognitive Science and Cognitive Linguistics, from classical processings to recent comparative and contrastive studies. Conclusion: The discussion of the applications of the psychology of mind in the linguistics and especially phraseology and idiomatics shows the variety of language problems and makes sure that the methodological base for phraseological and idiomatic research can be offered by the Cognitive Linguistics only for some types of phraseologisms and on some levels of research. Result: Phraseology in its nature and variety needs an explicit and systematic culture based approach and also appropriate methods which shall explain its cultural and cultural semiotic implications.

The issues mentioned above are examined on the basic of the content of the Russian journalistic discourse fom the years 1988-2000. The authores has singled out more than 20 key words around wchich new groups (also idioms) are formed. The analysis contained in the text only three groups of collocations wchich are being formed around the words: dukhovnost,tsennosti (and its derivates) and rynok (and int derivates). The artile reals with the assessment of a desperate search for the essence of spirituality and the essence of new values. Chronologically, the subsequent productivity of the key word rynok confirms the extremely difficult problem of making a choice wchich would be best for man. The source material subjected to semantic analysis containts a great deal of valuable information concerning not only the social reception of turbulent socio-political transformations but also the impact of those innovations on the way in wchich reality is perceived and interpreted.

After painstakingly anatomizing in a previous book (s. DIP) the function verb phrase (FVP) in German and tracking down English combinations which display the morpho syntactical pattern, comply with the lexicosemantic criteria and assume the stylistic features, characteristic of “Funktionsverbgeflige” (FVGs), I resume in the present contribution my relentless quest for lexicomorphological conveyors of FVGs, this time in Romaniana Romance language - and then, in a second stage, try to go with a fine tooth-comb through the semantic and stylistic shifts following in the wake of FVPs as employed by the three languages at issue (German, English and Romanian). The opening section of the paper at hand searches in a first phase through the samples of Romanian FVPs extracted from various sources and assigns them to the aspect subcategories which they most fittingly illustrate: ingressive, punctual, iterative and egressive. In a second phase the analysis focuses on type a-§i ie$i din rábdári FVPs which convey a transition from one state to another and, consequently, admit of a double-barrelled interpretation, i.e. both egressive and ingressive - hence the labels ‘contradiction in terms’ and ‘transitive aspect’ I put forward as indicative of their idiosyncratic behaviour. The third and final phase of my survey is devoted to investigating stylistic synonymy as well as defending such intriguing FVPs as fa ll in love and fa ll out o f love. The approach in the middle section is roughly the same, i.e. descriptive in the beginning, with copious illustration of various semantic shifts (active / reflexive > passive, active > reflexive) as well as of the contrasts and similarities observed when comparing the three languages at issue, and interpretive in the second stage, with the focus on two most challenging cases: the ‘implicit’ passive with a subject acting semantically as a ‘minor performer’; the surprisingly divergent semantics of two at first blush similar FVPs {be thrown into ecstasies and go into ecstasies). The third section investigates the involuntary as well as premeditated decomposition of idiomatic meaning in FVPs, which more often than not is to be held accountable for comic effects. The technique at work here is the superimposition of nonidiomatic meaning on the idiomatic one, which in turn triggers off the reaction phase of the listener/reader confronted when least expected with the real intentions of the speaker/writer. The effects of the interference at issue range from ambiguity through a smack of ridicule - when decomposition is unintentional - to the most sophisticated linguistic humour - when decomposition is premeditated. Since the approach is also a contrastive one, the final conclusions would only naturally relate to the rendering into another language of linguicomedy samples. Unfortunately the translatability of interference-effects-generated linguistic humour has been found to be minimum at best in most cases.

Opis:
Is there a difference between structure and a structural element in a musical work or practice? How can one tackle such a question methodologically? Are these concepts part of an abstract construct or are they perceivable to the ear? And about whose ear would one be talking about? When does one speak about an idiomatic style (for the piano) and how much of this idea is materialized in music? Is such reflection useful to understand a musical practice? In this text, I propose a view of the piano playing the main role in the structure and as a structural element by describing compositional situations and giving a counterpoint on them. This paper is organized as follows: a short theoretical framework where the first questions are challenged, along with paradigmatic examples on how the piano has been used in the structure and as a structural element in western art music, mainly from the second half of the 20th century and nowadays, including short considerations on how and the rationale why I have used it in some of my music compositions.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to present a comparative analysis of a novel written in Italian by Laura Mancinelli, 'The Twelve Abbots of Challant', and its translation into Polish prepared by Maciej Brzozowski. Focusing on a few examples, such as the use of grammatical tenses and moods, differences in the syntax, and the problems of translating idiomatic and metaphoric expressions, the paper aims to compare the author’s style with that of the translator. The task undertaken by the translator seems very hard indeed from the very beginning due to considerable differences between the Italian and Polish languages in the use of tenses and moods. While the Italian grammar uses four moods, eight simple and seven compound tenses, the frugal Polish grammar makes with just three modes, one compound and three simple tenses. The discussion will clearly illustrate that thanks to some modifications it was possible to translate and preserve the meaning and the spirit of the Italian grammar and style.
