The paper deals with the genre typology of the publicistic functional style. The speech genres are interpreted as a three-part system reflecting the interaction of the semantic positions both of the writer and the addressee. For the first time there has been characterized the system of the reader's genre needs which are nom1ally taken into consideration by a reporter when creating the text ofthis or that particular genre. As a result of the study into the problem it has been stated that various informational needs of the audience determine the compositional andthematic genres'peculiarities, as well as the communicative requirements and set the stylistic parametres of the pattems. In the paper there is proposed thesolution of the disputable issued in linguistics concerning the primary and secondary genres and are revealed the regularities in the different genres' interractions.

This paper illustrates a methodological approach to the design of an annotated corpus using a case study of phonetic convergences and divergences by multilingual speakers in southwestern Senegal’s Casamance region. The newly compiled corpus contains approximately 183,000 annotations of multilingual, spoken data, gathered by eight researchers over a ten year span using methods ranging from structured lexical elicitation in controlled contexts to naturally occurring, multilingual conversations. The area from which the data were collected consists of three villages and their primary languages, and yet many more contribute to the linguistic landscape. Detailed metadata inform analyses of variation, the context in which a speech act took place and between whom, the speakers’ linguistic repertoires, trajectories, and social networks, as well as the larger language context. A potential path for convergence or divergence that emerged during data collection and in building and searching the corpus is the crossroads in the phonetic production of word-initial velar plosives. Word-initial [k] emerges in one language where only [ɡ] is present in the other; the third utilizes both. The corpus design makes it feasible, not only to identify areas of accommodation, but to grasp the context, enabling a sociolinguistically informed analysis of the speakers’ linguistic behavior.

This paper seeks to investigate empirically the relationship between the enrolment at public and private higher education institutions (HEIs) and regional growth in Poland. Based on the panel data of 16 voivodeships for the period of 2000-2011, it is established that an increase in the number of students at both types of HEIs has a positive effect on the regional growth. Regardless of the specifications of the regression model, our results demonstrate, supporting the Nelson–Phelps hypothesis, that accumulation of human capital is one of the factors behind economic growth, with no differences detected between public and private HEIs.

Opis:
What is the influence of the social and (to a lesser extent) the cultural on mind and cognition? The question will concern: (i) the nature of the relation between what is social and cultural, on the one hand, and the mind, cognitive ability, and cognitive development on the other; (ii) aspects of the mind, cognitive ability, and cognitive development affected by what is social and cultural; (iii) processes in which what is social and cultural becomes a part of individual cognitive functioning. This paper attempts to provide a conceptual framework within which the above questions can be answered. In the literature concerning the explanation of mind and cognitive abilities, attention is drawn to the importance of distinguishing levels of explanation. One of such approaches to multi-level explanation of the mind and cognition is the distinction drawn by Daniel Dennett between the personal level of explanation (e.g., level of beliefs, desires) and the subpersonal level of explanation (e.g., neural or computational). The purpose of this article is to argue that - recognising that the social and the cultural are one of the constitutive conditions of mind and cognition - we should posit a third level: the interpersonal level of explanation (ILE). The reason for postulating ILE is that there are specific domains in which interpersonal interactions affect elementary cognitive abilities and processes, which may thus result in their transformation into higher cognitive abilities and processes. The entire group of such domains will be defined as ILE, and at the centre of its explanatory potential will be the different types and forms of the said transformation. One of the main research objectives pursued at the ILE is to identify and formulate a taxonomy of transformative features and processes. Two models of such processes will be presented: the Vygotsky model and the Tomasello model. In the final part of this paper, the basic methodological assumptions of the ILE will be presented: the relative autonomy of this level of explanation, multi-level analysis, and the mechanism-based explanation. These assumptions will also be used to formulate general theses of the ILE.

Opis:
In his work A Natural History of Human Thinking, Michael Tomasello depicts thinking as a form of cooperation. Presenting at the same time a conceptual schema enriched with empirical data, he outlines a natural history of thinking in particular, indicating how the process of socialization and new, unique manifestations of human interaction alter the forms of thinking, from the ones we share with primates, through increasingly complex forms characteristic of the primitive man, to these of the contemporary man. In A Natural History of Human Morality Tomasello presents a similar structure, showing morality as a form of human cooperation in which, according to Tomasello, Homo sapiens, seen as “ultra-social primates”, developed new and uniquely human forms of social interaction and organization which, as a result, required new and also very specific for Homo sapiens psychological mechanisms in cognitive processes, social interaction and self-control. While in A Natural History of Human Thinking Tomasello’s main hypothesis is the Shared Intentionality Hypothesis, in A Natural History of Human Morality it is the Interdependence Hypothesis. Thus, this unique structure of abilities and motivation is the feature which distinguishes us from other primates. This essay aims to extract and outline this structure, focusing more on A Natural History of Human Morality.

Opis:
How should we understand intentionality in the physical world? This question may be further divided into at least two other: How to understand intentional states in the physical world? (And if we refer to the entirety of such states as the mind then our question will take on the following form: How should we understand the mind in the physical world) and How to understand intentional content in the physical world? One of the most important projects in modern philosophy of mind and cognitive science consists in naturalisation of the content of mental states. The prevalent concept in the thus understood content naturalisation programme was the reductionist conception. In the article I present one of the proposals of content naturalisation by Daniel D. Hutto and Glenda Satne from the article The Natural Origins of Content. On the one hand, they reject the project of naturalising the content of mental states which is conceived as a reduction of semantic properties of contents of mental states solely to physical causative relations, properties or social mechanisms. On the other hand, Daniel D. Hutto and Glenda Satne present a research programme which does not seek a reductionist explanation of content but rather examines how the content emerged in the natural world – the natural origins of content. Although the authors describe the main framework of such a programme, they do not venture to answer the question whether such a theory even exists. In this article I am going to present the concept of Michael Tomaello most explicitly expressed in his Natural History of Human Thinking as a promising example of such a theory.

Probability hypothesis density (PHD) filter is a suboptimal Bayesian multi-target filter based on random finite set. The Gaussian mixture PHD filter is an analytic solution to the PHD filter for linear Gaussian multi-target models. However, when targets move near each other, the GM-PHD filter cannot correctly estimate the number of targets and their states. To solve the problem, a novel reweighting scheme for closely spaced targets is proposed under the framework of the GM-PHD filter, which can be able to correctly redistribute the weights of closely spaced targets, and effectively improve the multiple target state estimation precision. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can accurately estimate the number of targets and their states, and effectively improve the performance of multi-target tracking algorithm.

This paper presents  the problem concerning  market timing. The aim of the study was to consider the impact of the skills of managers in terms of market timing and the proper selection of assets in the investment portfolio. The study used the Henriksson-Merton model to determine whether the portfolio manager have selected FIO (open-end investment funds) skills in terms of selectivity and market timing and achievements in above-average rates of return. After testing models for the three surveyed funds, there have been confirmed hypothesis that portfolio managers of selected FIO do not have the skills both in terms of market timing and selectivity. The article presents the market efficiency hypothesis and the associated theory of market timing, which is more often touched upon in foreign publications than in Polish ones.
W artykule przedstawiono problem dotyczący wyczucia rynku.

Opis:
The modern, globalized world require from many persons to be in constant movement between not only geographical areas but also cultural circles. Representatives of various cultural, religious, national or ethnic groups meet on a daily basis as part of the education process, professional tasks or free time. Efficient functioning in such an environment is not possible without extended intercultural competences and creating open and tolerant society goes along with the need of breaking, rooted in tradition, stereotypes and prejudices. For a long time, a significant percentage of activities aimed at establishing relationships and cooperation between people from different cultures was based on the assumptions of the contact hypothesis, the essence of which is personal contact, exchange of experiences and verification of beliefs. This approach is reflected, inter alia, in in the European Erasmus + programs to support youth and academic mobility. Currently in the era of limitation of the possibility of movement caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic, most activities within education systems throughout Europe are carried out remotely. Contact mediated by new technologies very often lacks or significantly reduces the possibility of receiving non-verbal elements of communication, such as facial expressions, body language, proxemics or paralinguistic factors. The purpose of this article is to reflect on the effectiveness of actions based on the contact hypothesis in the case of distance contact and the need to search for new, alternative solutions in this regard. The starting point will consist of analysis of the benefits from implementing activities based on direct contact, on the example of the involvement of Erasmus+ program students in activities in the field of intercultural education in primary school. On the other hand, the difficulties observed in international projects, in which contact between participants due to the introduced restrictions must be mediated by the media will be described.
Takie podejście znajduje odzwierciedlenie m.in. w europejskich programach wspierania mobilności młodzieżowej i akademickiej, takich jak Erasmus+.

The title of the essay refers to the famous statement in Foucaults introduction to his History of Madness where he writes that “we have to do justice to Freud“. The problem, however, is that Foucault’s philosophy does not seem to do justice to Freud. Foucault’s use of Freud is ambiguous: sometimes he uses him for purely instrumental purposes (when reconstructing the history of madness and sexuality), but sometimes-for anthropological purposes signaling Freud’s role in redefining our common humanity and particularly our relation to language, life and work. The author confronts Foucault’s ambiguous reading of Freud with the equally ambiguous reading of Foucault by Derrida. Derrida discusses Foucault twice. Once in the essay Cogito and The History of Madness in which Derrida takes on Foucault’s understanding of Descartes and his role in the exclusion of madness from the realm of reason. The second time-in his essay To Do Justice to Freud. Here Derrida disagrees with Foucault whether Freud managed to reestablish the body’s communication with reason which Descartes destroyed.

This paper is devoted to analysis of co-called paradox of confirmation formulated by C. G. Hempel in the 1930s. In particular, the author proposes a solution of this puzzle. The proposal consists in refining the concept of confirmation by adding a clause that if A confirms a hypothesis h, the former must be a logical consequence of a latter, eventually derived with the help of additional assumptions. This leads to an additional constraint requiring that confirmations act relatively to sets of reference. Finally, if h and h’ are logically equivalent, a sentence A confirms both to the same degree if and only if related sets of reference are the same.
