Opis:
The aim of present study was to evaluate mechanisms involved in thermomodulatory effect LPK in rats.Experiments were performed on adult Wistar male rats. LPK was applied either intracerebroventricularly (icv), or intraperitoneally (ip) using the similar program and technique of experiments as in our previous study. We confirmed in this paper the results of our previous reports that icv administration LPK at the dose of 20 nmol induced evident significant rectal hypothermia, while lower dose LPK of 1 nmol icv exerted significant hyperthermic effect. Peripherally applied LPK at the range of doses 10-100 nmol/100 g ip displayed slight bimodal (hyperthermic and hypothermic) effect on rectal temperature. Prior administration of haloperidol, an antagonist of central dopamine receptors blocked both effects LPK applied either icv or ip. Obtained results indicate that both hypothermic and hyperthermic effects LPK are also modulated by central dopaminergic receptors.

Opis:
The paper presents the investigation of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) dedicated to hyperthermia application. The crystal structure and size distributions have been determined by means of transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Magnetic properties of the nanoparticles were tested by Mössbauer spectroscopy together with calorimetric experiments. The Mössbauer spectroscopic study of MNPs revealed the existence of a superparamagnetic phase. The relative contribution of the relaxing component to the total spectrum at room temperature was about 10%. The heating effect of these MNPs under alternating magnetic field was examined. The temperature increase has reached 5°C in 10 min. The preliminary temperature rise suggests that the investigated materials are applicable for hyperthermia.

Opis:
The work highlights peculiar features of synthesis and summarizes important properties of nanoparticles and films based on two types of oxide magnets: with spinel and perovskite-type structures. The attention is drawn to the differences in the processes underlying the formation of crystalline phase in the materials of each group. It is shown that for the spinels, the formation of weakly agglomerated crystalline nanoparticles can occur in the process of synthesis, but for the perovskite-like magnets, the formation of crystalline nanoparticles requires additional high-temperature treatment. It is demonstrated that synthesized nanoparticles and films may find wide practical applications, particularly as the heat mediators in hyperthermia treatment therapy, as components of left-handed media, ferroelectric-ferromagnetic layered structures and composite microwave resonators. They also may be used as integral parts of composite structures, which possess magnetic-field-controlled properties and display giant magnetocaloric effect.

Opis:
Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a clinical syndrome in which genetically susceptible individuals respond to the administration of potent inhalation anaesthetics and depolarization skeletal muscle relaxants with skeletal rigidity, unstable blood pressure, tachycardia, arrhythmias, hyperventilation, hypoxia, lactic and respiratory acidosis and high fever. In studies of the genetic basis of MH, a mutation was identified in the porcine (C1843T) and human (C1840T) skeletal muscle ryanodine receptor (RYR1) gene. This gene is mapped on human chromosome 19q13.1. The RYR1 gene contains 106 exons, of which two arc alternatively spliced.
