Opis:
An analysis of combining ability of rye, based on F1 generation hybrids, was performed in order to select lines of high effects of general combining ability which are useful for creation of population and synthetic varieties as well as hybrids giving high effects of specific combining ability. The main aim of the present paper was to recognize the actions of genes responsible for quantitative traits and combining ability of rye inbred lines on the basis of F1  and F2  hybrids analysis. The study material included 56 F1 generation hybrids obtained though diallel-cross with 8 parent lines as well as 56 F2  generation hybrids crossed with 8 parent lines.A genetic analysis of generation F2 yields results and GCA estimates which substantially correspond with those obtained for generation F1. The closest results were obtained for plant height, ear length and 1000-grain weight. For cultivation purposes, an analysis of generation F2  will be reliable and the selection based on it successful. Most of the studied lines were found to essentially influence the effects of general combining ability. The most recommendable is the line SMH-49 whose progeny was characterized both by shortened leaves and increased 1000-grain weight and the weight of grains per ear.

Opis:
Crosses between Betula nana and B. utilis 'Doorenbos' were undertaken in order to obtain interspecific hybrids which could be characterized by wide spreading stems, strong branching habit, decorative clear white bark and an interesting shape of purple leaves. The research purpose was to examine genetic diversity of the 16 F1 and F2 putative progenies by using the RAPD-PCR method and the ploidy analysis. A total of 242 RAPD markers were scored with 24 primers and 220 (90.9%) polymorphic bands were found. In the NJ dendrogram, cluster I consisted of the female parent - B. nana and 12 hybrids and cluster II grouped the male parent - B. utilis 'Doorenbos' with 4 hybrids (F2/2, F1/8, F1/7 and F2/1). The 2-D scaling by PCoA was in agreement with the similarity index, i.e. two hybrids (F1/8, F2/2) grouped with the male parent while others with female parent. Classification of the hybrid plants by chromosome counting demonstrated that 13 hybrids were confirmed with accurate chromosome counts as being diploid (2n=2x=28) and 3 plants (F1/7, F1/8, F2/2) as triploid with 42 chromosomes.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to examine the new 10 inbreed lines and 4 experimental F1 hybrids of white cabbage in respect to their agromorphological traits, content of selected nutrients, pro-healthy components, and their value for the consumption. Both inbreed lines and experimental F1 hybrids showed good internal uniformity and were diversified in respect to their yield, earliness, morphology, and susceptibility to the major diseases of cabbage. The studied genotypes were characterized by a significant difference in content of selected nutrients and bioactive substances. As a result the new commercial F1 hybrid of white cabbage SKW1518 was recommended for the registration at the Research Centre for Cultivar Testing.
