Opis:
The concept of gene therapy was introduced with great promise and high expectations. However, what appeared simple in theory has not translated into practice. Despite some success in clinical trials, the research community is still facing an old problem: namely, the need for a vector that can deliver a gene to target cells without adverse events while maintaining a long-term therapeutic effect. Some of these challenges are being addressed by the development of hybrid vectors which meld two different viral systems to incorporate efficient gene delivery and large cloning capacity with site-specific integration. The two known systems that integrate genes into specific sites in mammalian genomes are the adeno-associated virus and phage integrases. Recent experiments with hybrid vectors incorporating both of these systems are encouraging. However, extensive research should be directed towards the safety and efficacy of this approach before it will be available for gene therapy.

Opis:
This paper presents the study and implementation of a new vector control strategy using a hybrid control technique applied to the mechanical position loop aiming to obtain a system that acts in the fractional horsepower motor driver running at near zero frequency. For this purpose, some control techniques are employed to check which one has the best performance regarding this type of application. The use of three control techniques is considered: the Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller with fixed gain; the Generalized Predictive Control (GPC) controller; and a hybrid controller. The last one behaves as both PID and GPC using fuzzy logic in order to achieve improved system performance. Simulation and experimental results are shown and discussed to demonstrate the merits of the proposed approach.

Opis:
We develop a fully Bayesian framework for analysis and comparison of two competing approaches to modelling daily prices on different markets. The first approach, prevailing in financial econometrics, amounts to assuming that logarithms of prices behave like a multivariate random walk; this approach describes logarithmic returns most often by the VAR(1) model with MGARCH (or sometimes MSV) disturbances. In the second approach, considered here, it is assumed that daily price levels are linked together and, thus, the error correction term is added to the usual VAR(1)–MGARCH or VAR(1)–MSV model for logarithmic returns, leading to a reduced rank VAR(2) specification for logarithms of prices. The model proposed in the paper uses a hybrid MSVMGARCH structure for VAR(2) disturbances. In order to keep cointegration modelling as simple as possible, we restrict to the case of two prices representing two different markets. The aim of the paper is to show how to check if a long-run relationship between daily prices exists and whether taking it into account influences our inference on volatility and short-run relations between returns on different markets. In the empirical example the daily values of the S&P500 index and the WTI oil price in the period 19.12.2005 – 30.09.2011 are jointly modelled. It is shown that, although the logarithms of the values of S&P500 and WTI oil price seem to be cointegrated, neglecting the error correction term leads to practically the same conclusions on volatility and conditional correlation as keeping it in the model.

Opis:
The hybrid excitation synchronous motor (HESM), which aim at combining the advantages of permanent magnet motor and wound excitation motor, have the characteristics of low-speed high-torque hill climbing and wide speed range. Firstly, a new kind of HESM is presented in the paper, and its structure and mathematical model are illustrated. Then, based on a space voltage vector control, a novel flux-weakening method for speed adjustment in the high speed region is presented. The unique feature of the proposed control method is that the HESM driving system keeps the q-axis back-EMF components invariable during the flux-weakening operation process. Moreover, a copper loss minimization algorithm is adopted to reduce the copper loss of the HESM in the high speed region. Lastly, the proposed method is validated by the simulation and the experimental results.

Opis:
The paper addresses the problem of forecasting in manufacturing systems. The main aim of the research is to propose new hybrid forecasting models combining artificial intelligencebased methods with traditional techniques based on time series – namely: Hybrid econometric model, Hybrid artificial neural network model, Hybrid support vector machine model and Hybrid extreme learning machine model. The study focuses on solving the problem of limited access to independent variables. Empirical verification of the proposed models is built upon real data from the three manufacturing system areas – production planning, maintenance and quality control. Moreover, in the paper, an algorithm for the forecasting accuracy assessment and optimal method selection for industrial companies is introduced. It can serve not only as an efficient and costless tool for advanced manufacturing companies willing to select the right forecasting method for their particular needs but also as an approach supporting the initial steps of transformation towards smart factory and Industry 4.0 implementation.

Opis:
The heterogeneous mobile terminals coexist in the next generation wireless networks. The most common routing schemes for mobile ad hoc networks are designed for homogeneous wireless networks. The heterogeneous wireless network routing protocols are needed urgently in many important applications. This paper improves the routing scheme utilizing different capability of terminals and the Hybrid Grid Routing Protocol (HGRP) is proposed. The network is organized in the grid form, that is, the network deployment area is divided into square cells according to the location. Each cell contains one backbone node and several ordinary nodes. This proposed protocol consists of four parts: grid construction, local routing, global routing, and routing correction. Analysis and simulation results indicate that the proposed protocol has the advantages of lower routing cost, lower energy consumption, smaller delay and higher throughput, compared to AODV and ZRP.

Opis:
Groundwater contamination due to leakage of gasoline is one of the several causes which affect the groundwater environment by polluting it. In the past few years, In-situ bioremediation has attracted researchers because of its ability to remediate the contaminant at its site with low cost of remediation. This paper proposed the use of a new hybrid algorithm to optimize a multi-objective function which includes the cost of remediation as the first objective and residual contaminant at the end of the remediation period as the second objective. The hybrid algorithm was formed by combining the methods of Differential Evolution, Genetic Algorithms and Simulated Annealing. Support Vector Machines (SVM) was used as a virtual simulator for biodegradation of contaminants in the groundwater flow. The results obtained from the hybrid algorithm were compared with Differential Evolution (DE), Non Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA II) and Simulated Annealing (SA). It was found that the proposed hybrid algorithm was capable of providing the best solution. Fuzzy logic was used to find the best compromising solution and finally a pumping rate strategy for groundwater remediation was presented for the best compromising solution. The results show that the cost incurred for the best compromising solution is intermediate between the highest and lowest cost incurred for other non-dominated solutions.
Zanieczyszczenie wód gruntowych wyciekami benzyny jest jedną z kilku przyczyn wpływających na środowisko wód podziemnych. W ostatnich latach bioremediacja in situ przyciągała uwagę badaczy z powodu jej zdolności do usuwania zanieczyszczeń w ich siedlisku i niskich kosztów procesu. Algorytm hybrydowy powstał z połączenia metod różnicowej ewolucji, algorytmu genetycznego i symulowanego wyżarzania. Maszyna wektorów nośnych (SVM) została użyta jako wirtualny symulator biologicznej degradacji zanieczyszczeń w wodach gruntowych. Wyniki uzyskane z algorytmy hybrydowego porównano z wynikami zróżnicowanej ewolucji (DE), algorytmu genetycznego (NSGA II) i symulowanego wyżarzania (SA).
