Opis:
The analysis of the expressive stability of lexeme ‘słodziak’ in Polish The aim of this article is to analyse the lexical changes – expressive stability, to be more specific – in the Polish lexeme ‘słodziak’. The expressive stability of the lexeme was analysed with the application of the value theory by Jadwiga Puzynina, basic human emotions by Anna Wierzbicka, Likert scale, and stylistic marking. Furthermore, the following websites served as sources for the analysis: Polish Wordnet, Language Observatory of the University of Warsaw, Internet dictionary of slang miejski.pl, dictionary glosbe.pl built on the basis of the English-Polish translations, language corpus monco.frazeo.pl, National Corpus of Polish, as well as numerous entries on blogs and forums. The analysis allowed to establish the following meanings of the lexeme ‘słodziak’: (1) lovely person, (2) cute animal, (3) cute item, (4) sweet food and drinks, (5) sweet scent, and (6) unattractive man. Furthermore, the analysis of sources shows that the lexeme is present mostly on gossip and news websites. This emphasises the colloquial nature of the lexeme but allows another tentative conclusion: since most of the gossips, news, and interviews are translated from English, one may suspect significant productivity of the investigated lexeme in the English to Polish translations. The claim is further supported by the presence of the lexeme in English-Polish dictionaries, in which ‘słodziak’ is a suggested equivalent for such English words and phrases as sweetie, cutie, cutie-pie, peach, cutie-patootie. All in all, the analysis shows that the lexeme is relatively stable.

Opis:
Marin Cureau de la Chambre belonged to the group of medicals and philosophers who played a significant role in the development of French philosophy of the seventeenth century. The scholar dealt with the basics of physiognomy and achieved a significant progress in this area. His main work, dedicated to the expression of emotions, provides a comprehensive analysis of human behavior and a classification of feelings. De la Chambre considered himself as a continuator of Aristotle’s works, but his research was in response to the demand of his own era. The author values more highly the realm of emotions and against the tendencies of rationalism, considers human nature almost entirely in their aspects. He considers the body as a medium which helps the soul express all its states of being. Body language is treated as a key to the human psyche. His method is designed to expose the real nature that people are trying to hide behind the conventions and cultural masks. For this purpose de la Chambre deepens his gaze on the context which can be defined as socio-psycho-geographic. The knowledge gained in this way was to be used in human resource management, politics, but also effectively navigating the intricacies of court life. In comparison with Descartes, the medical presents himself as the one who came closer to the knowledge of the “real man”, which, for the other one is clearly lacking. The article presents the main assumptions of de la Chambre’s physiognomy and, where possible, seeks to compare his “Expressions of feelings” with Descartes’ “Passions of the soul”.

The processes of visual attention and stimulus detection are a key stage of perception. In the presented studies we tested the role of the genesis (automatic vs. reflective) and source (internal vs. external stimuli) of emotions in the detection of new stimuli (close to or distant from the fixation point). We expected (1) a narrowing of the field of attention in the case of automatic emotion elicitation or internal sources of emotion; (2) an extension of attention field in the case of reflective processes or external sources of emotion. In Study 1 (N = 90) we used explicit presentation of sentences eliciting emotions. In Study 2 (N = 60) we used degraded presentation (32 ms + masking) of words charged with affect. The hypotheses were partly confirmed by the data collected. We found that in the case of eliciting emotions with automatic origin or internal source detection times were significantly shorter for stimuli occurring close to the fixation point. In the case of reflective emotion eliciting condition and external emotion source, no significant differences were observed in reaction times between stimuli close to and distant from the fixation point.

Opis:
The analysis of the expressive stability of lexeme ‘gówniak’ in Polish The aim of this article is to analyse the expressive stability of the Polish lexeme ‘gówniak’. Although the said lexeme is a relatively new linguistic phenomenon – as it appeared for the first time in the Polish web in 2014 – it is becoming more and more popular among a specific type of internet users and its meaning has started to expand. The expressive stability of the lexeme was analysed on the basis of the basic human emotions by Anna Wierzbicka, value theory by Jadwiga Puzynina, Likert scale, and stylistic marking. Since the lexeme doesn’t appear in any paper dictionaries, the following websites served as sources for the analysis: language corpus monco.frazeo.pl, Polish Wordnet, Internet dictionary of slang miejski.pl, and above all numerous entries on blogs and forums, memes and entertainment websites such as wykop.pl and joemonster.org. The analysis allowed to establish four main meanings of the lexeme ‘gówniak’: (1) a definition of (someone else’s) child popular among users of entertainment websites, (2) an annoying, naughty child, (3) a child of ‘Seba’ and ‘Karyna’, (4) a humorous definition of (your own) child. Moreover, the analysis of the sources shows that the emotional marking of the lexeme is constantly changing: from purely negative (resulting from its morphological structure) to more neutral or even positive one.

Opis:
This article is a review of Frans de Waal's book Mama's Lust Hugs. Animal Emotions and what They Tell Us about Ourselves, which was released in Polnad in 2019. The book deals with the problem of animal emotionality. One of the conclusions reached by the author and which was emphasized in the review is the thesis that there is no such thing as unique human emotions that animals would not have. Emotions are universal; they are shared both by humans and animals. The review noted that although the book is interesting, it is not new in terms of content, because it deals with issues that de Waal wrote about many times in his earlier publications. On the other hand, thanks to the collection and inclusion in one book of the issues related to emotionality in animals, the publication can be a good starting point for reflection not only on animals (their emotionality and rights), but also on humans and their place in the world. It puts the reader in facing the question of human nature. For this reason, what has been tried to show in the review, Frans de Waal's book is a good example of how scientific issues lead to philosophical reflections.

What should be considered the central problem of linguaecology is the issue of protection of language quality (its various manners of existence: language use, system as well as individual and collective linguistic awareness) against destructive human impact, in particular culture, and protection of human health (individuals and human communities) against harmful language. The ecological nature of linguistic communication is determined not only by its axiological (emotional and moral) dimension but also, and foremost, by the intention not to harm oneself and others. In order to meet the challenges of our times (from climate crisis to hate speech), we need to oppose the view that human beings are selfi sh and aggressive by nature. This view contributes to us becoming like that. However, the true human nature is different: human beings are decent, they are homo cooperans.

The accounting system derives from the needs of the practice of economic life, striving in its essence to convey to the economic environment a series of economic information related to the functioning of economic entities on the market. With accounting in the practical dimension, a human is inseparably connected, who is the constructor of this system, the implementer of its main assumptions and functions and the guardian of observing its chief principles. The article presents considerations on the essence and meaning of the so-called emotional intelligence of a human being. These considerations were related to the practical dimension of accounting, making the thesis, that developing emotional intelligence of people professionally involved in accounting, shall be commensurate with the shaping of knowledge and skills in this regard. The article points out accounting areas in which emotional intelligence can be an important factor in the implementation of the main accounting function in relation to its main principle. The article uses a critical analysis of literature and the method of deductive reasoning.

Opis:
The paper offers a type of internal criticism of Martha Nussbaum’s liberal political philosophy. On the one hand, Nussbaum’s claims to political liberalism (as defined by Rawls) are questioned. It is argued that her capabilities-based liberalism remains committed to a broader, primarily Aristotelian account of the human condition. As a result, it exceeds the limits imposed by political liberalism with its focus on citizenship and non-comprehensive foundations of political regimes. On the other hand, the paper argues that Nussbaum’s project can meet the basic normative objective of political liberalism. That is to say, it offers a convincing solution to the question: how can liberal values be stable in a society, given that liberalism endorses the plurality of acceptable normative doctrines? Nussbaum is able to address this issue, because her rich philosophical commitments allow her to complement liberal tenets with a compatible account of practical reasoning complementary. The paper focuses on one of the elements of this conception, i.e. Nussbaum’s theory of emotions and their role in a political culture.
