    The presence of a child with disabilities in a family presents more challenging conditions than the presence of a non-disabled child. One of the difficulties is of financial nature. One of the parents often has to give up their job to care for the child, which shrinks the household income. At the same time, the family has higher expenses resulting from, e.g. costs of treatment. All this increases the risk of falling into poverty. The goal of this paper is to analyse the financial situation of households with a disabled child, mainly in the context of poverty, and compare it to the financial situation of households with non-disabled children. The study is based on data from Polish Household Budget Survey, covering two years, 2014 and 2016. The study revealed that families with a disabled child are generally poorer than families with non-disabled children. The financial situation improved over the studied period in both types of families, but the improvement in the families with a disabled child was much greater. The main factor in reducing the risk of poverty in both types of families is the education attainment level of the reference person (the household head), which should be at least upper secondary.

    Many sample surveys are not based on simple or unrestricted random samples, but usually on complex samples with stratification, clustering, unequal inclusion probabilities and multistage sampling. To estimate a parameter, all individual data from complex sample must be weighted by weights connected with sample selection scheme and statification and adjusted for nonresponse and noncoverage errors. Standard statistical computer software is correct for statistical inference from unrestricted random sample, but not from complex sample. The aim of this paper is to present utility of SAS software to statistical inference from complex sample. Data from Household Budget Survey 2008 were used in examples.

    Background. About 7 million people in Poland receive pensions. The amount of benefits paid to pensioners is reflected in the income at their households and expenses, including food expenses. Objective. The aim of the study was to evaluate the dietary patterns of Polish seniors in the retirees` households on the basis of an analysis of food consumption and energy and nutrient intake. Material and method. Food consumption evaluation was based on household budget survey conducted by Statistics Poland in 2019 throughout the whole country. Energy and nutrient intake were calculated using the conversion factors. Results. The consumption of unprocessed red meat in retirees’ households was 1.83 kg/person/month, meat products – 2.90 kg and kitchen salt – 0.24 kg. 6.52 kg of vegetables and 5.99 kg of fruit were consumed per person per month. The mean energy intake in members of these households was 2387 kcal/day. The proportion of energy from fat was high – 36.6%. 14.2% of energy was derived from protein and 49.6% from digestible carbohydrates. The share of animal fat (55.0 g) was higher than vegetable fat (43.7 g). It was associated with a high percentage of energy from saturated fatty acids – 13.4%. The content of polyunsaturated fatty acids was less than half of the saturated fatty acids. Calcium and vitamin D intake was low (658 mg and 3.8 μg respectively). Conclusions. Red meat, processed meat and salt consumption by seniors was too high in relation to the nutritional recommendations. Vegetables and fruit were consumed in amounts that are recommended. Seniors diet was improperly balanced, e.g. due to the high percentage of energy from fat, including saturated fatty acids. However, the intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids was low. Calcium and vitamin D intake was lower than Reference Intakes.

    Praca prezentuje zmiany dokonane w ciągu ostatnich kilku lat w poziomie i strukturze wydatków polskich gospodarstw domowych na ochronę zdrowia. Autor próbuje udzielić odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy kryzys gospodarczy, który dotknął także Polskę, wpłynął na zmianę kształtu prawidłowości zachodzących wcześniej w wydatkach na zdrowie. Źródłem informacji wykorzystanym w opracowaniu są przede wszystkim systematycznie prowadzone przez Główny Urząd Statystyczny badania budżetów gospodarstw domowych. Wyniki tych badań są – zgodnie z wytycznymi OECD – wykorzystywane w postaci zagregowanej do budowy Narodowego Rachunku Zdrowia, będącego obecnie podstawowym źródłem informacji o poziomie i strukturze wydatków na ochronę zdrowia w Polsce.
    This paper presents the changes made over the past few years in the level and structure of expenditure of households on health in Poland. Author is trying to find the answer on the question whether the economic crisis has any impact on the expenses on health system in Poland. The source of information used in this study was the systemic analyses of household budget survey made by the Central Statistical Office (GUS). Results of these analyses, according to the recommendation of OECD, have been used for building National Health Account (NHA), which is currently the basic source of information on the level and structure of health expenditure in Poland.

    In the paper the results of small area estimation using empirical best linear unbiased predictor (EBLUP) for the data coming from Polish Household Budget Survey are presented. The results were obtained using small area models of household expenditures for regions. Estimation of sampling errors was conducted by means of the balanced repeated replication (BRR) technique. The estimation of EBLUPs and their corresponding mean square errors (MSE) was carried out using variance components technique. To calculate MSE of EBLUP the maximum likelihood method (ML) and restricted maximum likelihood method (REML) were used. The computation was made using SAE package designed for R-project.

    W artykule podjęty został temat zmian w poziomie wydatków polskich gospodarstw domowych na leki i artykuły medyczne oraz medyczne dobra trwałego użytku. Autor przedstawia, w jaki sposób zmieniał się poziom wydatków na przestrzeni lat 2006-2015 oraz jaki jest udział wydatków na artykuły medyczno-farmaceutyczne, a także sprzęt i urządzenia medyczne w wydatkach ogółem wśród polskich gospodarstw domowych. Podstawę informacyjną artykułu stanowi literatura przedmiotu oraz statystyki masowe, w tym prowadzone przez Główny Urząd Statystyczny badania budżetów gospodarstw domowych. Na podstawie analizy zgromadzonych źródeł informacji stwierdzono, że polskie gospodarstwa domowe z roku na rok wydają coraz więcej na ochronę zdrowia, w tym na leki i artykuły medyczne oraz medyczne dobra trwałego użytku.
    In the article taken was about changes in the level of expenditure of Polish household on medicines and medical supplies and medical durable goods. The author shows how to change the level of expenditure over the years 2006-2015 and what is the share of expenditure on medical and pharmaceutical articles and medical devices in the total expenditure among Polish household. The basis of information article is the literature and the statistics including conducted by the Central Statistical Office household budget surveys. On the basis of the analysis of the collected information stated that Polish household each year spend more on health care including medicines and medical supplies and medical durable goods.

    Obserwowane współcześnie rosnące zadłużenie gospodarstw domowych wymaga nowego spojrzenia na badania prowadzone w tym zakresie w Polsce. Celem artykułu jest prezentacja i porównanie metodologii badań nad problematyką zadłużenia konsumenckiego. Przedstawiono teoretyczny kontekst zadłużania się, a następnie skoncentrowano się na głównych aspektach metodologicznych badań dotyczących kredytowania gospodarstw domowych na poziomie mikroekonomicznym. Omówiono i porównano wybrane międzynarodowe i krajowe badania gospodarstw domowych oraz dostępne w Polsce źródła danych dotyczące zadłużenia gospodarstw domowych. Dokonany przegląd dostępnych źródeł danych o zadłużeniu gospodarstw domowych pozwala stwierdzić, że w porównaniu do badań prowadzonych w innych krajach w Polsce dane na poziomie mikroekonomicznym są zbierane w ograniczonym zakresie. Źródła tych danych można traktować komplementarnie, stanowi to jednak utrudnienie z punktu widzenia zarówno ich porównywalności, jak również dostępu do nich. Wskazuje to na brak jednego badania wyczerpującego problematykę zadłużenia gospodarstw domowych w Polsce, prowadzonego w dłuższym okresie. W podsumowaniu sformułowano rekomendacje dotyczące kierunkowych zmian w badaniach z zakresu omawianej problematyki prowadzonych w naszym kraju.
    The current grow of household debt requires a new approach to household indebtedness surveys in Poland. The aim of the article is to present and compare research methodologies in the field of consumer debt. The research is focused on presenting the theoretical context of indebtedness, and subsequently on the main aspects of methodological research on household borrowing at the microeconomic level. Selected international and national household surveys as well as data sources available in Poland regarding household indebtedness were discussed and compared. The review of available data sources on household indebtedness indicates that, compared to surveys in other countries, data on the microeconomic level are collected to a limited extent in Poland. The sources of these data can be treated complementary, however this is an obstacle in terms of both their comparability and access to them. This indicates the lack of a single long-term survey on the issue of household debt in Poland. Recommendations for directional changes in research on discussed issues conducted in Poland were formulated in the conclusion.
