Opis:
This paper analyses the heat treatment of the hot-dip zinc coating deposited on both cast iron and steel. The aim of research is to increase coating hardness and wear resistance without decreasing its anticorrosion properties. Hot-dip zinc coating was deposited in industrial conditions (acc. PN-EN ISO 10684) on disc shape samples and bolts M12x60. The achieved results were assessed on the basis of microscopic observation (with the use of an optical and scanning microscope), EDS (point and linear) analysis and micro-hardness measurements. It was discovered that the heat treatment of zinc coating results in an increase in hardness which is caused by the corresponding changes in microstructure.

Opis:
The steel substrate formed as the result of oxy-acetylene cutting (OAB) was treated differently - using: softening annealing, grinding and electro-polishing. Investigations were focused on the influence of additional processing on the structure and corrosion resistance of the deposited zinc coating. The hot - dip Zn galvanizing process was conducted in industrial conditions. Parameters were fixed: temperature 457 °C, dipping time 150 s. The coating thickness diversification dependent on the sub-surface steel structure was analysed and compared to the previous results. The correlation between conducted treatment and coatings morphology was determined.

Opis:
The paper deals with the fabrication of the surface layer enriched with Zn on AlSi17 aluminium alloy to modify the microstructure and surface properties of the alloy. The continuous surface layer was fabricated on the AlSi17 substrate by the hot-dip galvanizing of AlSi17 for 15min in a Zn bath heated to 450°C. The thickness of the layer was about 100 μm. The layer was characterised by a multi-component microstructure containing the regions of a solid solution of Al in Zn and dendrites of a eutectoid composed of a solid solution of Al in Zn and a solid solution of Zn in Al. In the layer, fine particles of Si with a regular shape were distributed. The results indicated that these Si particles formed by the action of Zn on the eutectic Si precipitations in the AlSi17 substrate. In the microstructure, large primary Si crystals and multi-phase precipitations, originating from the substrate, were also observed. The surface layer had much higher microhardness than the AlSi17 substrate. The results showed that hot-dip galvanizing can be used to modify the microstructure and properties of the surface layer of AlSi17. The study indicates the possibility of conducting further research on the fabrication of joints between AlSi17 and other metallic materials using a Zn interlayer fabricated by hot-dip galvanizing.

Opis:
The article discusses the future of the production of protective coatings based on the hot-dip galvanizing of iron-carbon alloys, such as steel or cast iron. Currently exploited zinc deposits will be exhausted in the next two decades and it will be necessary to start the exploitation of new deposits in order to maintain the supply or quantity of Zn on the global market. In both cases, it will be related to the increasing cost of zinc on world markets. Zinc-based protective coatings (one of the best corrosion protection methods) constitute almost 50% of the world’s zinc consumption. Economic issues with the constant increase in the price of Zn will force the change or modification of hot-dip galvanizing technology. The article presents data on the production, consumption and development of zinc prices on the global market. Possible directions are presented which producers of zinc coatings will have to follow in order to maintain sales markets, such as the modification of chemical compositions of protective alloys which could be an alternative to pure zinc coatings and the possibility of limiting zinc consumption based on the influence of the surface of galvanized elements, i.e. its metal matrix, and surface roughness.

Opis:
The growth kinetics of the zinc coating formed on the surface of casting made from ductile iron grade EN-GJS-500-3 was investigated. To produce homogenous metal matrix in test samples, the normalising and ferritising annealing was carried out. Studies showed a heterogeneous structure of cast iron with varying content of the phases formed. This was followed by hot dip galvanising treatment at 450 C to capture the growth kinetics of the zinc coating (the time of the treatment ranged from 60 to 600 seconds). Nonlinear estimation of the determined growth kinetics of the alloyed layer of a zinc coating was made and an equation of the zinc coating growth was derived. Based on the results of the investigations it was concluded that thickness of the zinc coating formed on the surface of casting with a 100% pearlitic matrix makes 55% of the thickness of coating formed on the surface in 100% ferritic.

Opis:
Facing the still growing demand for metals, particularly for zinc, the recovery of metals from secondary sources should be considered. Spent pickling solutions can be the source of valuable products such as hydrochloric acid, zinc or iron salts or even metallic zinc. The selection of an efficient, selective and economical method for the regeneration of such solutions is a key issue for hot dip galvanizing plants, especially in reference to strict environmental protection regulations.

Opis:
Następnie w zarysie opisano technologię cynkowania ogniowego w odniesieniu do prętów zbrojeniowych. Zwrócono uwagę na korzystny wpływ powłoki cynkowej na przyczepność zbrojenia do betonu. Opisano mechanizm degradacji powłoki spowodowany oddziaływaniem wysokoalkalicznej cieczy porowej, a także wnikaniem chlorków i dwutlenku węgla w porowatą strukturę betonu.
The article presents the method of corrosion protection of steel reinforcement of concrete structures by hot dip galvanizing, which is not well-known in Poland. The mechanism of protection against corrosion of steel rebars surface in the concrete pore liquid environment by zinc coating is discussed in the preliminary part. Then the hot dip galvanizing technology for reinforcing bars is outlined. Attention was drawn to the positive influence of zinc coating on the adhesion of reinforcement to concrete. The mechanism of coating degradation caused by the action of high alkaline pore liquid, as well as penetration of chlorides and carbon dioxide into porous concrete structure was described.
