    Opis:
    The paper presents an attempt to automatic speech recognition of Polish spoken medical texts. The attempt resulted in experimental system that can be used as a tool for practical applications. The system uses a typical recognition method based on Hidden Markov Model and domain-specific language model. Implemented software made it possible to conduct many experiments aimed on evaluation of the assumed approach usefulness. Obtained experiment results are presented and analyzed. The system architecture and the way in which it can be integrated with hospital information systems is also exposed.

    Opis:
    The work describes methods used in a laboratory order form recognition module of a hospital information system. Three-level form analysis architecture is proposed. The lower alphabetical level is responsible for separate character recognition. On the intermediate level, recognised strings are verified against the lexicons of items specific for a particular form field. Probabilistic model is used to select the set of most probable items. On the upper level, the dependencies between the form data items are taken into account to further improve the recognition performance. The presented approach was implemented in the medical information system supporting clinic laboratory operation. The laboratory test orders prepared manually by the physician in the paper form, in the net of distributed outpatient clinics are processed in the central hospital laboratory. In the central laboratory the paper forms are scanned, recognised and entered into the information system. The performance tests results are discussed and some further improvements of the applied recognition method are also suggested in the paper.

    Opis:
    Governments across the world are launching ambitious and expensive initiatives related to health care information systems and information systems strategies that use IT as the basis for improving the health care of patients. Computer-based hospital information systems (HISs) are expensive, e.g. a typical HIS for a large hospital is estimated to cost some $50m, i.e. 140m PLN [21]. In contrast, the benefits that result from an information system - in health care or in other business sectors - have rarely been measured [9]. The National Health Service in the UK has embarked on a huge initiative, namely The National Programme for IT in the NHS (NPfIT), costing some £12.4 billion (70bn PLN) over 10 years to 2013-2014. Hospital information systems have evolved over the last three decades. Has this evolution allowed us to gain knowledge of, and understand, the problems and obstacles of HISs and their implementation? Have we a corresponding knowledge of how to achieve success and minimise failure in HIS implementations? In this context, this paper examines the NPfIT, the problems it has experienced and the successes it has achieved, in order to extract lessons from these experiences that might benefit future information and communication technology (ICT) implementations in health care.

    W zarządzaniu współczesną organizacją techniki informatyczne zajmują szczególne miejsce, gdyż w dużej mierze obieg informacji jest możliwy i realizowany poprzez ich użycie. Informatyzacja jest koniecznością wymuszoną przez otoczenie organizacji. Dotyczy to zarówno organizacji rynkowych działających dla zysku, jak i organizacji non profit. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie na przykładzie wybranego szpitala procesu jego informatyzacji i tworzenia systemu informatycznego wspomagającego proces zarządzania tą placówką.
    In the management of a modern organization Information Technology takes a special place, as to a large degree information circulation is possible and carried out just through its use. Taking advantage of Information Technology becomes a necessity forced by the environment of an organization―starting with a compulsory clearance performed partly electronically and finishing with the need of having e-mail addresses and web pages of a company being essential from the marketing point of view. Used information technologies, and related to them procedures as well as change processes do not depend on the fact that we deal with an economic or non-economic organization, a production company, a company providing services or a non-profit company. The aim of the article is to show the case study of a hospital, where the process of creating and implementing information technology has been described as an example, and creating an information system which supports the process of managing this institution.
