Opis:
Objectives The aim of this study has been to investigate the frequency of sensitization to horse allergens and clinical symptoms in horse riders. Material and Methods A total of 42 horse riders and 50 healthy individuals were examined by means of skin prick tests for a panel of horse and common animal allergens, and pulmonary function tests were done by spirometry. Results The rate of sensitization to horse allergens was 31% as proven by the skin prick test in horse riders whereas horse sensitization was not seen in the control group. Occupational allergy symptoms were reported by 19 horse riders. Two horse riders with no history of clinical symptoms showed positive skin reactions to horse allergens. Conclusions To decrease the high risk of occupational sensitization among horse riders, workplace conditions should be improved to reduce the load of airborne horse allergens.

Opis:
This article concerns the Eastern motif ―the horse and the rider in the desert‖. This motif appeared in French poetry (Millevoye and Lagrange) in connection with the translations of the Bedouin (desert arabs) poetry. Gradually, in the poetry by Zukovskij (Песнь араба над могилою коня), Pushkin (IX Imitation from the poetic cycle Подражания Корану), Mitskevich (Фарис), and Lermontov (Три пальмы), a metasubject was formed, with a synthesis of Eastern and Western motifs. The poets start with the imitation of the Eastern texts and then, in their poetry, they start to express the philosophical ideas of correspondence between the Eastern and Christian cultures as different forms of a civilization development.

A “Priestesses from Marvinci” or a “Harnessed Wife”? Semiotics of the Iron Age Cheek-Pieces from the Group of “Macedonian Bronzes”

Opis:
The main reason for this study are the bronze objects found on the body of a woman (supposedly a “priestess”) from an Iron Age grave (VII century BC) from Marvinci in the Republic of Macedonia. There has also been a bronze statue recently presented in a public space in Skopje, as a contemporary art interpretation of this archeological finding. The main focus of this article is a semiotic analysis of arch-shaped bronze elements from this grave. Based on the form of similar finds from Europe they are defined as cheek-pieces i.e. elements of the reins for horse riding, but in Macedonia they have been used in another function – as female jewelry or as handles of a specific ritual implement. The study suggests overcoming of these contradictions through the following semiotic relations: a girl/mare + equipment for riding = a harnessed mare/wife, i.e. the use of these objects as symbols of a “wild woman” who is transferred from the sphere of “natural” to the sphere of “cultural” through the act of marriage, becoming a “tamed/a domesticated wife”. Within the same relationship the following paradigm is proposed (husband = ruler: wife = subject). Several facts are stated in the argumentation of this relationship: the mythological and ritual traditions based on ancient written sources; a ritual tradition of Slavic and Balkan folklore; a Slavic and ancient Greek lexeme with the meaning husband and wife whose etymology is based on the meaning of harnessed. This semiotic relation offers a possible key for the interpretation of the twenty bronze statues of horsemen placed in the last three years in the capital of the Republic of Macedonia, as part of the project “Skopje 2014”.

Opis:
The purpose of this work was to assess the impact of a specific equestrian training, conducted in winter weather conditions, on the thermovision temperature distribution of a rider’s body surface. The study included a riding pair with 12 years of experience (female rider, aged 25, sports active and 16-year-old horse, Trakehner breed). Methods: The study included the temperature distribution of selected parts of the rider’s body (the area of the right and left shoulder blade, chest and lumbar section, and the region of the left and right cross) was carried out before and after recreational, jumping and dressage training. Each winter training has been repeated, at different times, 10 times, giving a total of 30 workouts. The thermovision measurements were made in a separate room, always under the same conditions. Results: Research has shown that, along with the increase in the level and intensity of the training, the body surface temperature of the rider increased. After recreational driving, this temperature increased, compared to the pre-workout measurement, by 3.15 °C, after jumping through obstacles to 4.39 °C, and in dressage to 5.82 °C. Conclusions: The highest increase in body surface temperature (on the example of dressage training) was recorded in the thoracic and lumbar part of the spine region, then in the area of the left and right scapula, while the smallest in the left and right sacral region of the rider.
