Opis:
The observational study evaluated isokinetic parameters in patients at eight months after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) utilizing semitendinosus and gracilis tendons autograft, with two different modes of physiotherapy, and investigated whether analysed parameters were affected by the postoperative physiotherapy supervision duration. Methods: Strict exclusion criteria were employed on a group of 259 ACL-reconstructed patients to identify two groups of males preoperatively well trained and frequently participating in sports, with different durations of postoperative physiotherapy supervision: Group I (n = 18; x = 27.67 weeks) and Group II (n = 20; x = 10.75 weeks). The patients underwent knee extensor and flexor muscles torques measurements with the 180°/s and 60°/s. The torque, position and time parameters were analysed. Limb Symmetry Index (LSI) was calculated. The parametric tests for dependent samples, parametric tests for independent samples, and linear Pearson’s correlation coefficient calculations were performed. Results: There were significant between-limb differences in the Group II in the knee extensor and flexor muscles torque parameters, with LSI ranging from x = 75.72 to x = 78.75 and from x = 78.69 to x = 87.82, respectively. The knee extensor muscles torque parameters and LSI values were positively correlated with the physiotherapy supervision duration. The inter-limb differences in the Group I and II in knee flexor muscles PT angle amounted to x = 10.94° (180°/s), x = 9.39° (60°/s), and x = 12.00° (180°/s), x = 9.75° (60°/s), respectively. Conclusions: The longer postoperative physiotherapy supervision was more effective for improving knee muscles torque parameters. The knee flexor muscles PT angle was shifted towards extension in the ACL-reconstructed limb, regardless of the time of postoperative physiotherapy supervision duration.

Purpose: To assess the degree of independence in physical activities of daily living for patients under long-term in-home nursing care; to evaluate any changes in physical activities of daily living at entry and after 90 days of in-home nursing care. Materials and methods: InterRAI-HC (Residental Assessment Instrument – Home Care) questionnaire was used as a tool according to the protocol and assessed patients at entry and again after 90 days. The participants consisted of 100 consecutive patients who were newly admitted to long-term in-home nursing care. Results: The analysis of total dependence showed that more than 50% of patients were entirely dependent in eight out of ten specified physical activities of daily living (except mobility in bed and food consumption). Intention to treat analysis was performed; the percentages of patients totally dependent in performing eating and mobility in bed actions increased significantly by the 90-day follow-up. Also a comparison of the mean value of independence for analyzed activities did not change significantly over the 90 days, with the only exception being the mean value of independence for dressing up the upper part of the body, which significantly improved after 90 days per protocol analysis. A high mortality rate is noted among these patients (15% by the 90 day follow-up). This probably resulted from the restrictive qualification criteria used in Poland for patients to receive this form of in-home healthcare service. Conclusions: The majority of patients who are under long-term in-home nursing care in Poland are entirely dependent when it comes to the physical activities of daily living.

Opis:
Purpose – We conceptualized the novel phenomenon of COVID-induced virtual teams and its implications and provided researchers with the required information on how to conduct a phenomenon-based study for conceptualizing novel phenomena in relevant ways. Design/methodology/approach – This article stems from phenomenon-based and, thus, theory-building and grounded qualitative research in the German industrial sector. We conducted 47 problem-centered interviews in two phases (February–July 2021 and February–July 2022) to understand how team members and team leaders experienced COVID-induced virtual teamwork and its subsequent developments. Findings – Empirically, we found COVID-induced virtual teams to be characterized by a high relevance of shaping positive team dynamics via steering internal moderators; crisis is a novel external moderator and transformation becomes the key output factor to be leveraged. Work-from-home leads to specific configuration needs and interrelations between work-from-home and on-site introduce additional dynamics. Methodologically, the phenomenon-based approach is found to be highly suitable for studying the effects of such novel phenomena. Research limitations/implications – This article is explorative. Thus, we advocate further research on related novel phenomena, such as post-COVID-hybrid and work-from-home teams. A model of how to encourage positive dynamics in post-COVID-hybrid teams is developed and lays the groundwork for further studies on post-COVID teamwork. Concerning methodology, researchers are provided with information on how to conduct phenomenon-based research on novel phenomena, such as the COVID-induced virtual teams that we studied. Practical implications – Companies receive advice on how to encourage positive dynamics in post-COVID teamwork, e.g. on identifying best practices and resilient individuals. Social implications – In a country such as Germany that faces labor shortages, our insights might facilitate better labor-market integration for those with care-work obligations and international workers. Originality/value – We offer a first conceptualization of a relevant novel phenomenon, namely COVID- induced virtual teams. We exemplify the phenomenon-based approach as a suitable methodology that serves to build relevant theory using active categorization.

Opis:
The present paper views globalisation and women’s work and exploitation in a micro enterprise in India, the beedi (indigenous cigarette) industry with a case study from one of the states in India. Rural occupational structures and employment patterns in India have undergone a transition in the last few decades due to globalisation. Newer forms of employment like construction work, domestic services and beedi making have become alternatives to agricultural labour for women. Beedi is an indigenous cigarette, in which tobacco is rolled in a tendu leaf and tied with a cotton thread. This is smaller and less expensive than a cigarette and in the popular imagination it stands for the working class. This work is done sitting at home and mostly women and girls do it. This is a very gendered industry, for only women and girls that too from low-income groups make beedis. There is a lot of exploitation in this industry and this has only increased with the advent of globalisation but this is generally ignored by data gathering systems, policy makers and administrators. There is an occupational health hazard too for many of these workers suffer from various health hazards not because they are smoking these beedis but because they are making them.

Opis:
Artykuł dotyczy regulacji prawnej w zakresie obowiązków pracodawcy z obszaru bezpieczeństwa i higieny pracy względem telepracownika wykonującego pracę w domu. Jeśli telepracownik wykonuje pracę w domu, pracodawca jest obowiązany wykonywać obowiązki z zakresu bezpieczeństwa i higieny pracy względem telepracownika z wyjątkiem tych wyraźnie wskazanych w art. 6717 k.p.
The article focuses on the Polish legal regulations regarding the employer’s obligation to ensure the health and safety of home-based telework. If the teleworker is working from home, the employer must perform the duties specifed in the Polish Labour Code with respect to the teleworker, regarding the type and conditions of the work performed, except those defined in Art. 6717. This exclusion is considered quite narrow, which may be the reason why in practice employers are not very interested in this form of work. Te implementation of the obligations stipulated in the Labour Code in the area of health and safety will not be easy, due to the requirement that teleworker’s privacy must be observed. Telework makes for difficulties for employers and Państwowa Inspekcja Pracy (Poland’s National Labour Inspectorate) in the supervision of teleworkers’ working conditions. The aim of this study is to present the main problems in this subject.
