Opis:
Holy water can help lay people in their pursuit of sainthood. It remindsthem about the sacrament of baptism and encourages to be grateful to Godfor such a great gift, to feel joy and pride in being Christian. It helps to prepare for the Eucharist and raises awareness God’s presence. Through holywater God absolves the venial sins when we use it in the spirit of remorse. This water constitutes an element of the blessing which is given by parentsto their children on the basis of priesthood arising from the mystery ofbaptism. It plays an important role in the Christian customs related to burial, indicating the exceptional meaning of human death, the dignity of the humanbody, the mystery of the purgatory and the significance of the prayer forthe dead. Holy water is used in blessings and shows the need to sanctify thewhole human life, the everyday existence, the various dimensions of humanlabour and activity. Sometimes it is kept in the houses of the believers towhich they can resort to in moments of temptation. Many saints talks of theimportance of holy water as protection from the evil spirit. Furthermore, itprovides consolation, reassurance in spiritual struggle and internal renewal. There is also the danger of abuse: mechanical use, giving up the spiritualstruggle with venial sins, neglecting everyday duties, magical thinking.

Opis:
Hydrochemical indicators are widely used for assessment of groundwater chemistry. They were established mainly for mineral water in order to understand their origin and chemical classification. In the case of fresh water, they are used occasionally because quality classifications are based on concentrations of individual components and physical properties in relation to the permissible standards established for water intended for human consumption. Natural in Polish climate, bicarbonate-calcium and bicarbonate-calcium-magnesium waters are commonly used for drinking. In many places, ions emitted from pollution outbreaks have already caused chemical changes of water and it is often the first symptom of their contamination. The author has evaluated the scope and trends of these changes in the groundwater of the Holy Cross region in Poland using the bicarbonate and calcium-magnesium indicators.

Quartz arenites and wackes with intercalations of silty shales of the Ociesęki Formation were analysed in small outcrops and one core. The succession contains about forty-three ichnogenera and seventy-four ichnospe- cies, among which thirty-three ichnogenera and fifty-three ichnospecies are described by present author. The formation belongs to the Schmidtiellus-Holmia Superzone and to the Protolenus-Issafeniella Zone. Most strata are totally bioturbated. The diverse and numerous trace fossils represent the Cruziana ichnofacies in the lower part of the formation and the Skolithos ichnofacies in the upper part. A few possibly new ichnospecies of different ichnogenera have been described in open nomenclature. Sedimentary structures and trace fossil assemblages indicate that the older part of this formation was deposited on the upper offshore to lower shoreface, while its younger part was deposited on the lower to middle shoreface, where storm episodes were the main factor controlling sedimentation and the activity of benthos. The trace fossil associations studied are similar to those from the lower Cambrian in many places around the world. The ichnoassociations from the Polish part of the East European Platform and from Sweden, which represent the Baltica palaeocontinent, display the closest similarity.

Opis:
The article ”The history and theology of a baptismal bowl” shows the way in which the form of baptizing had an influence on the evolution of shape and size of a baptismal bowl. It also describes theological meaning of a baptismal bowl in the context of analysing the rituals of liturgy of baptism, which was renewed after the Second Vatican Council. In terms of Ritual and Ceremonies of Blessing a baptismal bowl is a real baptismal source. Mention should be made of the fact that it is necessary to tell the difference between a baptistery which means a separated building outside the church and chapel, which is situated in church, or another place in a church building. This place is created only for giving the sacrament of holy baptism. Not all the parishes can have a special baptistery, but all of them must have a baptismal bowl (the baptismal source) where the sacrament of holy baptism is given. In post-conciliar liturgical books the baptismal bowl is called the source of salvation or a gate of spiritual life of Christ, or a kind of her womb thanks to which people are born to a new life through water and Holy Spirit. In the renewed liturgy, which emphasizes the Paschal character of the sacrament of holy baptism, a baptismal bowl appears as a place of transition from death to life, because the ones who are born in this world are infected by the dirt of original sin, then washed in it by streams of baptismal water they are incorporated in Christ. In this way they regain their original purity and impeccability and their souls are fertilized by the riches of virtues. The baptismal source can be also described as a place of reaching divine alliance, because baptism is the first sacrament of New Alliance in which people experience ontic relationship with Christ and are united with His Body. In this meaning a baptismal bowl in post-conciliar liturgy appears as locus theologicus, since apart from the pulpit and the altar it creates historical-saving triad in the architecture of faith, and its design and artistry can become the source of deep theological reflections.

Opis:
Posoborowy Mszał Pawła VI włączył aspersję do obrzędów wstępnych Mszy św., przewidując możliwość zastąpienia aktu pokuty w niedzielę aspersją, zarazem nadając jej charakter wspomnienia chrztu. Analiza kolejnych edycji mszału posoborowego wskazuje m.in. na łączność aspersji z liturgią chrzcielną w Wigilię Paschalną. Modlitwy aspersji podkreślają także chrzcielny charakter kapłaństwa wspólnego wiernych. Dopełnieniem obrzędu aspersji mszalnej są nieszpory niedzieli Zmartwychwstania Pańskiego, połączone z pokropieniem wodą chrzcielną.
Sprinkling with water as a sign of covenant and purification is rooted in the Old Testament. Although Christians accepted the biblical symbolism of water, sprinkling with it in the liturgy encountered resistance. In ancient times that reluctance resulted from the similarity of sprinkling to pagan rites, in the Middle Ages and during the Reformation from the danger of treating this rite in the liturgy as a repetition of baptism. The rite of sprinkling initially had no connection with the liturgy of the Mass, later it became the rite preceding the Mass (Asperges) and it was of purifying and penitential character. The development of the introductory rites in the Mass led to the formation of the penitential act among them, which in the post-Tridentine Missal took the form of the Confiteor. The post-conciliar Missal of Paul VI included Asperges in the introductory rites of the Mass providing for the possibility of replacing the penitential act on Sunday with Asperges, and at the same time treating it as the memory of baptism. The analyses of the subsequent editions of the post-conciliar Missal indicate, among others, the connection of Asperges with the liturgy of baptism during the Easter Vigil. The prayers of Asperges also highlight the baptismal character of the common priesthood of the faithful. The service which completes the rite of Missal Asperges is Vespers of Resurrection Sunday connected with the sprinkling of baptismal water.

Opis:
The article presents a new look at the subject of the birth of water and of the Spirit (John 3,5) which is necessary for attainment of the kingdom of God. It is a new birth for the Christian in his life. The explanation of the meaning of the birth of water and of the Spirit is difficult, because it is found only once in the Holy Bible (John 3,5). The pericope John 3,1-21 is compared with other texts of the Holy Scripture (especially with the Gospel of John, the Letter to the Galatians and the Book of Ezekiel). In the Gospel of John and the Letter to the Galatians it occurs an opposition between the flesh and the Spirit (John 3,6 and Gal 5,19-23). And also the meanings of works done in God (John 3,21) and of the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5,22-23) can be the same. People who do the works of the flesh “shall not obtain (not inherit) the kingdom of God” (Gal 5,21). The text Gal 5,4-6 is very important, because it shows the importance of Christ and the Spirit in the Christian life. In the Book of Ezekiel God promises the sprinkling of clean water, a new heart, a new spirit and a gift of His Spirit (Ezek 36,25-27). Jesus Christ is “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1,29) and “baptizes with the Holy Spirit” (John 1,33). In this work it is discussed the meanings of words “water” and “spirit” in the phrase “to born of water and the Spirit” (John 3,5).
