    Opis:
    The paper presents a reconstruction and an analysis of the Vistula river bed changes in the 19th and 20th centuries, performed on the basis of topographic maps. The analysis took into account both natural (floods, changes in rock-debris supply) and anthropogenic (e.g., river regulation, construction of water reservoirs) causes, which resulted in significant changes of the morphology of the Vistula river bed. To estimate the river bed changes the author used such parameters as: the length of the banks and changes of their location, the width of the river bed, and the surface of the river bed forms and their share in the river bed surface area.

    W artykule porównano treść map topograficznych opracowanych na początku XX w., przedstawiających fragment obszaru pozostającego pod zaborem rosyjskim – Kielce i okolice. Przeanalizowane zostały topograficzne mapy wojskowe państw zaborczych: rosyjska Dwuwiorstówka, austriacka Spezialkarte i niemiecka Karte des Westlichen Russlands. Mapy te cechuje wiele podobieństw: zbliżona skala, podobny okres i cel powstania. Przeprowadzona została analiza elementów topografii: sieci komunikacyjnej, zabudowy, budynków, obiektów przemysłowo-gospodarczych i warstw przyrodniczych pod względem wizualnych różnic, kluczy znaków oraz obiektywnych miar, takich jak długość czy powierzchnia.
    The article compares the scope of topographic maps of Polish territory annexed by Russia, prepared at the beginning of the twentieth century: Kielce and its surroundings. The comparison includes military topographic maps prepared by every country taking part in the partition of Poland – Russia (Dwuwiorstówka), Austria (Spezialkarte) and Prussia (Karte des Westlichen Russlands). These maps have very much in common – their scale, date and purpose of their release were similar. The analysis includes the comparison of, for example, lengths or areas of maps’ topographic elements and the visual comparison of maps and their symbology keys.

    Opis:
    During the interwar period, an estimated 32–36% of Polish territory was covered by the Polish Military Geographical Institute’s (Pol. Wojskowy Instytut Geograficzny) 1:25,000 detailed map. At the same time, the MGI achieved a full coverage of the country by 1:100,000 tactical map. 50% of tactical map sheets were revised for the 1930s – many covered areas for which no detailed maps had been printed. Considering the fact that 1:100,000 tactical map was updated on the basis of revised 1:25,000 maps, another 17–21% of 1:25,000 detailed map sheets were finished or in progress by the German and Soviet invasion in 1939. The study confirmed additional 4% of 1:25,000 detailed map sheets as ‘partially compiled’ by the MGI and finished by the Germans. Another 17% of detailed map sheets are potentially to be found. Hypotheses, clues and evidence are presented in the paper.
