    The article presents examples of initiatives, promotional activities and services that are critical to a positive image of modern libraries. The paper also describes old libraries with historical collections, which are part of the cultural landscape of cities, co-create the atmosphere of places, and are attractive for scientists, enthusiasts and visitors. Examples prove that libraries have created their own style, and their openness to technical innovations causes that the institutions are seen as modern.

    This article is the first study of the library belonging to the Łódź industrialist and art collector Henryk Grohman (1862–1939). It attempts to answer the question of the degree to which analysing these volumes, which are now housed in the collections of the University of Warsaw Library and the National Museum in Warsaw, can prove helpful in the study of art collections. The methodology for researching historical book collections was used to reconstruct and describe the library. These inquiries resulted in more than 165 titles being determined, which originally belonging to Grohman and covered oriental and European arts and crafts, as well as graphic and drawing arts (about 60). These included monographs, albums, and critical catalogues, exhibition and antiquarian nature, published mainly in Western Europe before 1914. The collector’s specialized book collection, built up on an ongoing basis, overlapped with his artistic interests and had the character of a utilitarian library. From the point of view of the study of graphic collections of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the reference libraries of their creators seem to be of particular importance. In times when taste no longer sufficed to create a valuable collection, and quality and rarity became the main criteria for selecting graphic works, specialized literature on the subject was of help. Created by art historians, collection curators, art market experts, and also private collectors, it introduced the nuanced world of graphic arts. It provided a tool to help identify a print, determine its state, edition and quality, and thus determine the value of a given work. The preserved publications from Grohman’s library were therefore regarded as sources of specialized knowledge that the collector could not acquire either during his education or in his native environment. Three publications have been analysed in detail in the context of Grohman’s graphic arts collection: the series Le peintre-graveur illustré by Loys Delteil (1906–1926), the two-volume catalogue of Jean-Louis Forain’s lithographs and etchings by Marcel Guérin (1910, 1912), and the album devoted to the engravings of Fank Bangwyn prepared by Frank Newbolt (1908). These are publications reflecting the thriving activity of the circle of print enthusiasts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which had a significant impact on the dissemination of knowledge about this field of art. The series of relationships revealed between the collection of prints and drawings and the reference library significantly expanded the knowledge on its creator and how the collection was formed. It made it possible to appreciate the collector’s expertise and artistic taste, to observe how his awareness grew, influencing decisions on subsequent purchases, and also to detail the provenance of certain works. Thanks to the research field being expanded to include Grohman’s library, the findings on his graphic collection have become more complete and reliable.

    The authors summarise the main databases of written cultural heritage, used for research of book culture history in Slovakia, Czech Republic and Hungary, particularly databases including data for research of Polish books of the 16th-18th centuries. Potential of digital science and its sources for traditional book culture history research is emphasised. Authors analyse all types of Polonica in certain digitalised collections of various historical libraries in the Kingdom of Hungary from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Mutual cultural relationship of Slovakia and Poland in book culture history is also highlighted, especially for building of aristocratic and bourgeois libraries.
    Autorki prezentują główne bazy danych piśmiennego dziedzictwa kulturowego używane do badań nad historią kultury książki na Słowacji, w Republice Czeskiej i na Węgrzech, w szczególności te z nich, które zawierają dane przydatne w badaniach nad polską książką od XVI do XVIII w. Autorki podkreślają potencjał jaki reprezentuje humanistyka cyfrowa i źródła przez nią wykorzystywane dla tradycyjnych badań na historią kultury książki. Analizują wszystkie typy poloników znajdujących się w niektórych zdigitalizowanych kolekcjach bibliotek dawnego Królestwa Węgierskiego istniejących od XVI do XVIII w. Naświetlają również relacje w dziedzinie kultury książki pomiędzy Polską a Słowacją, w szczególności w kontekście powstawania bibliotek mieszczańskich i arystokratycznych oraz rozwoju drukarstwa i księgarstwa w Królestwie Węgierskim.

    Rozpoznanie dawnych księgozbiorów to jeden z istotniejszych obszarów badań historycznobibliologicznych. Znaczącą część tego rodzaju kolekcji stanowią biblioteki parafialne. Do podstawowych źródeł w badaniach nad nimi należą akta wizytacyjne, rejestrujące książki będące na stanie parafii. Tego rodzaju dokumentacja wizytacji generalnych z XVIII i początku XIX w. w diecezji chełmskiej, dekanacie chełmskim, pokazuje księgozbiory parafialne w Czułczycach, Kumowie, Olchowcu, Orchówku, Pawłowie, Sawinie, Sosnowicy, Świerżem, Uhrusku i Wereszczynie. Biblioteki te są zróżnicowane zarówno pod względem liczebności, jak i zawartości treściowej. W każdej z nich są obecne książki pro offi cio ecclesiastico, natomiast teksty pro docendo populo występują w parafi ach większych i lepiej uposażonych. Pochodzą one zazwyczaj z darów, stąd też znajdują się wśród nich dzieła niekoniecznie przydatne do pracy duszpasterskiej proboszczów. Są wytworami polskich i zagranicznych warsztatów drukarskich i pochodzą z XVI, XVII i XVIII w.
    The identifi cation of old book collections is one of more important areas of historical-bibliological research. A signifi cant portion of such collections are parish libraries (book collections). One of the principal sources in their investigation is visitation records listing the books possessed by a parish. Such documents of general visitations of the 18th and early 19th centuries in the Chełm diocese’s Chełm deanery show the parish book collections in Czułczyce, Kumów, Olchowiec, Orchówek, Pawłów, Sawin, Sosnowica, Świerże, Uhrusk, and Wereszczyn. They are diversifi ed both in terms of the number and content of books. In each of them there are books pro officio ecclesiastico, while the texts pro docendo populo are found in larger and better endowed parishes. The books were usually donated therefore the collections contain works not necessarily useful in the pastoral work of parish priests. They are the products of Polish and foreign print shops and date from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.

    The article discusses the rise and evolution of digital libraries It also focuses on the structure and function of the Pomeranian Digital Library.     Celem artykułu jest zapoznanie czytelnika z zagadnieniem bibliotek cyfrowych oraz przybliżenie struktury i działalności Pomorskiej Biblioteki Cyfrowej [dalej: PBC]. W drugiej części artykułu ukazano rolę PBC w udostępnianiu cennych kolekcji bibliotecznych – w oparciu o dane statystyczne, ankietę przeprowadzoną wśród użytkowników PBC oraz zapytania kierowane poprzez formularz kontaktowy. Artykuł przedstawia także działania promujące cyfrowe dziedzictwo kulturowe podejmowane za pośrednictwem mediów społecznościowych i we współpracy z lokalnymi instytucjami kultury.

    Ośrodek Archiwów, Bibliotek i Muzeów Kościelnych Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego Jana Pawła II prowadził od roku 1960 prace polegające na mikrofilmowaniu głównie kościelnych archiwaliów oraz – w mniejszym stopniu – zbiorów historycznych bibliotek kościelnych. Opisy gromadzonych mikrofilmów były na przestrzeni lat publikowane na łamach czasopisma „Archiwa, Biblioteki i Muzea Kościelne”. Poszczególne grupy mikrofilmów zyskiwały kolejny numer publikacji nazywanej katalogiem mikrofilmów. Obecny stan prac został przedstawiony w drukowanym katalogu autorstwa dr hab. Marii Dębowskiej. Publikacja scaliła opisy 5593 mikrofilmów. Ich kolekcja, stworzona w Ośrodku Archiwów, Bibliotek i Muzeów Kościelnych, jest unikatowym zbiorem do badań nad dziejami Kościoła w Polsce.
    Ever since 1960, the Ecclesiastical Archives, Library and Museum Centre of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin has been microfilming primarily ecclesiastical archive materials and partially also the historical collections of church libraries. The descriptions of the resulting microfilms were published over the years in the journal Archiwa, Biblioteki i Muzea Kościelne. Subsequent groups of microfilms were assigned consecutive publication numbers and were referred to as microfilm catalogues. The current status of the work is presented in a printed catalogue by Maria Dębowska, PhD. The catalogue brings together descriptions of 5,593 microfilms. Created in the Ecclesiastical Archives, Library and Museum Centre, the microfilm collection is a unique resource for studies on the history of the Church in Poland.

    Opis:
    The procedure of depositing the library of the Bielany Camaldolese monastery in the Jagiellonian Library was rather complicated. Firstly, it required creating essential software and adjusting the final storage area in the library. Secondly, single items had to be removed from the shelves, cleaned, identified and correlated with corresponding records in the digital database. After that, the collection underwent massive disinfection and was transported to the main building of the Jagiellonian Library, where all the books were arranged on the shelves, in the original order. The last phase of this project involved electronic cataloguing in the Virtua library management system.

    Opis:
    Biblioteka Ordynacji Massalańskiej Bispingów, podobnie jak inne księgozbiory Grodzieńszczyzny, została utracona w czasie II wojny światowej. Historia kolekcji sięga 1853 r., kiedy to została ufundowana ordynacja. Biblioteka mieściła się w pałacu rodziny Bispingów w Massalanach i według świadectw źródłowych zawierała głównie dzieła treści naukowej, w większości w języku francuskim i polskim. Podczas poszukiwania książek z rozproszonego księgozbioru Biblioteki Ordynacji Massalańskiej w różnych bibliotekach Białorusi i w wyniku przeprowadzonych badań proweniencyjnych w zbiorach Grodzieńskiego Państwowego Muzeum Historyczno-Archeologicznego i Narodowego Archiwum Historycznego Białorusi w Grodnie odnaleziono dwa znaczące fragmenty biblioteki ordynackiej, liczące 493 tomy, w tym 44 starodruki. Na podstawie analizy tych dzieł został odtworzony charakter Biblioteki Ordynacji Massalańskiej i jej historia, stanowiąca świadectwo kultury czytelniczej Grodzieńszczyzny w XIX i na początku XX w.
    The Massalany Estate Library of the Bisping family like other private libraries of Hrodna region were lost during the World War II. The history of this library dates back to 1853 when the estate was founded. The library was situated in the Bispings family palace in Massalany and, according to some accounts, had books on predominantly scientific topics most of them in Polish and French. As it transpired, this library survived partially in the Hrodna State Historical and Archeological Museum where it was discovered. For the time being there were identified presumably about 300 volumes bearing the estate library seal „The Library of Massalany Estate” or having other traits of this provenance. On the basis of the properties of these volumes we attempted to reconstruct the structure of the library collection and study its history. The preliminary results of these studies are presented in the article.

    The article examines the Polonica (polish prints) stored at the State Scientific Library of Prešov (hereafter: the SSL of Prešov), an institution founded in 1952. Since its establishment, employees of the former bibliographic department have compiled inventories of literature, personal and thematic bibliographies, and have conducted research on and prints included in the collections of the SSL of Prešov. The research in the field of the history of book culture was carried out in the library collections by researchers from universities, including those from abroad. The author presents an overview of the publications printed to date, focusing on the Polonica in the collections of the SSL of Prešov, especially those of Kraków provenance.
