    Opis:
    In the article we outline some characteristics of proper names as a linguistic phenomenon, their communicative and compositional features, stylistic functions and interpretive-perceptual models. We consider our own names as linguistic universals that convey the linguistic and cultural code of a particular nation, revealing similarities or differences in representation in different languages. In addition to naming an object or person, proper names also perform the function of characterizing those objects or people. A comparative analysis of the use of proper names in presidential inaugural speeches and in proverbs presents proper names not only as separate textual elements, but also demonstrates the historical and cultural specificity of each country, embodied in its language, political and social accents, traditions passed down from generation to generation. Due to the recurrent use of texts, proper names create additional connotations and develop associative thinking of the reader or listener. Some of these proper names are elements of national identity, while others become a civilization property.

    The article discusses the phenomenon of the prominent statesman, thinker, and publicist K.P. Pobedonostsev. The author explores his relationship with the Russian intelligentsia, representatives of the conservative camp. The politi-cal views of Pobedonostsev and paradoxicality of his behavior as a politician and as a person are analyzed. Reasons for his ideological drama, which is fatal-ity of his attempts to resist the general tendencies of life, are also revealed. The article substantiates the position that the motivation of Pobedonostsev’s human and political strategy depended on the socio-historical and cultural context of the turn of the 19th – 20th centuries.

    Wyniki wyborów prezydenckich na Ukrainie w 2004r. i rezultaty badań opinii publicznej wskazują wyraźnie na ogromną rolę, jaką odegrał w czasie "pomarańczowej rewolucji" kontekst historyczno kulturowy. Społeczeństwo ukraińskie podzieliło się niemal po równo na dwa obozy: "pomarańczowych" - zwolenników rewolucji i "niebieskich" - zwolenników kontrrewolucji. Ten podział miał w dużej mierze charakter terytorialny. Zachód i centrum kraju głosowały w większości na Wiktora Juszczenkę, zaś wschód i południe na Wiktora Janukowycza. Postawy i zachowania zwolenników rewolucji i ich przeciwników były zdeterminowane przez następujące czynniki: tożsamość narodową, język, wyznanie, identyfikację ojczyzny, tradycję i pamięć historyczną. W rzeczywistości Ukraina pod względem historycznym i kulturowym dzieli się na trzy regiony: 1) Zachód pozostający do 1939 r. pod dużym wpływem cywilizacji łacińskiej; 2) Centrum, które uległo częściowej rusyfikacji, ale zachowało narodowy charakter; 3) Wschód i Południe - obszar zasiedlony dopiero w XIX w. z dużym udziałem Rosjan i pozbawiony własnej tradycji historycznej. Na podstawie danych sondażowych można postawić tezę, iż społeczeństwo ukraińskie pod względem cywilizacyjno-kulturowym i politycznym stanowią faktycznie trzy grupy: 1) świadomi Ukraińcy (około 40%), mówiący na co dzień po ukraińsku, wierni Patriarchatu Kijowskiego lub grekokatolicy,opowiadający się za zbliżeniem z Unią Europejską i NATO oraz demokratyzacją; 2) Rosjanie i Ukrainorusy (około 40%), mówiący po rosyjsku, ateiści lub wierni Patriarchatu Moskiewskiego, tęskniący za Związkiem Sowieckim, opowiadający się za ścisłą współpracą z Rosją i Białorusią; 3) "wahający się" (około 20%), przeważnie Ukraińcy dwujęzyczni lub rosyjskojęzyczni, rozdarci kulturowo między Wschodem i Zachodem.
    The results of the presidential elections in Ukraine in 2004 and the results of public opinion polls show clearly the immense role played by historical and cultural context during the “Orange Revolution”. Ukrainian society was divided almost equally into two camps: the „orange” – revolution supporters and the „blue” – supporters of the counterrevolution. This division was largely territorial. The west and center of the country voted in majority on Viktor Yushchenko and the east and south on Viktor Yanukovych. Social attitudes and behavior of supporters of the revolution, and their opponents, were determined by the following factors: national identity, language, religion, identification of fatherland, tradition and historical memory. In fact, Ukraine is divided, historically and culturally, into three regions: 1) West, which until 1939 was greatly influenced by Latin civilization; 2) Centre, which has been partially Russificated, but retained its national character; 3) East and South – an area inhabited only in the 19th century with a large proportion of Russians, without its own historical tradition. Based on survey data we can propose a thesis that the Ukrainian society, in cultural and political terms, is actually divided into three groups: 1) nationally conscious Ukrainians (about 40%), talking every day in Ukrainian, followers of the Kiev Patriarchate and Greek Catholics, supporting democratization and rapprochement with the European Union and NATO; 2) Russians and “Ukrainorussians” (about 40%), speaking Russian, atheists or followers of the Moscow Patriarchate, nostalgic for the Soviet Union, supporting close cooperation with Russia and Belarus; 3) “hesitating ones” (about 20%), mostly Russian-speaking, or bilingual Ukrainians, culturally torn between East and West.

    Opis:
    In light of the publication of the last volume of the onomasticon “Polish Anthroponymy of 16th–18th Century”, the authors reflect on the inspiration for the dictionary. They highlight the role of Professor Aleksandra Cieślikowa in shaping the concept of the volume and present stages of its creation and publication, as well as indicating the importance of describing anthroponymic phenomena in a historical and sociocultural context. The authors discuss the structure of each entry and of the whole dictionary and the sources used. The uniqueness of the onomasticon, owing to the variety of textual data referred to in the dictionary, is emphasised. The authors believe that “Polish Anthroponymy” may be a good starting point for further syntheses for other researchers.

    At the beginning of the 21st century, the topics of refugees and expulsion in conjunction with National Socialism and the Holocaust play an important role in contemporary children’s literature. Literary portrayals of Jewish childhood during the Second World War are mostly based on authentic experiences of eyewitnesses who are still alive. Against the setting of the approaching transition from the “communicative memory” to the “cultural memory” (Assmann 2008, Welzer 2008), literary texts are vitally important for social memorialization. However, so far there has been little empirical exploration into how these texts are read by adolescents and how they find their way into the cultural memory of literature classes. Furthermore, the didactic theory that children’s literature should contribute to intercultural understanding requires an empirical foundation. This was the basis for my study, Literarische Gesprache im interkulturellen Kontext - Discussions about Literature in an Intercultural Context – (Hoffmann 2011). In a qualitative-empirical study, I explored the reception of Mirjam Pressler’s novel Malka Mai – Malka (2002) – by secondary school students in German language classes in Germany and Poland. The aim of my research project was to reconstruct learning potentials in discussions about literature within an intercultural context. Given the novel’s potential meanings and the demands it places upon its readers, I would like to demonstrate in this article the different ways in which it is received, as well as to show which areas of tension lie behind the subjective receptions.

    In this article, I discuss adult learning models and their implications in the field of academic didactics addressed to teacher candidates, which seem adequate to thinking about teaching (learning) in school inspired by constructivist-interpretative paradigms (Klus-Stańska 2018). Referring to David Guile’s (2005b) typology of approaches to professional education, which takes into account the criterion of the adopted theories of learning (a monological approach based on cognitivism, a dialogical/participatory approach, rooted in the model of cognition situated in context, and a trialogical approach corresponding to the theory of activity along with social constructivism), I compare the implications of the differentiated re/defining of the theory and practice relations in the programmes of the pedagogical component of studies constructed in accordance with the identified approaches.
