Opis:
Some selected parameters of steel for structural-ballistic shields (OKB) used in the Navy vessels have been presented. The standards for steel to be used for ballistic shields are established by safety standards institutions and committees. There has been made an analysis of steel used for OKB of the vessels. The bullet-proof of the platters has been carried out on the appropriate position. The results of bullet-proof test of selected platters have been presented. The analysis made allowed to select the platters used for the structural-ballistic safety shields in marine vessels and give the direction for further research determined by contemporary threats of both military and terroristic nature. To produce the platters there have been used two types of armoured metal sheet which had been milled to flats made of the basic steel and which can be applied in shipbuilding. The structural-ballistic platters have had the form of flats with the total thickness of 8.5-9.2 mm. The prepared structural-ballistic platters have been technological processed in order to increase the degree of their strength. There have been also presented mechanical and technological properties of platters after heat treatment. The results of the bullet-proof have been presented in graphs form defining the dependence between the hit force and time. The effects of fire of specimen made of platters, by 7.62 mm cal. bullets with the proper speed have been seen on photographs.

The paper presents results of metallographic investigations of spot welds made of high-strength steel HSLA340 and dual-phase DP600 steel. Low-carbon martensite microstructure was found in the weld nugget of HSLA steel. The DP600 steel shows martensite and bainite microstructure. For both steels, no carbides of microadditives were found because they dissolved in liquid nugget and could not precipitate again because of rapid heat abstraction. Moreover, no transcrystallisation was found in both steels, which proves good mixing of the materials within the weld.

Opis:
The microstructure evolution of boron-bearing high speed steel roll materials after casting and tempering was investigated. The results indicate that as-cast boron-bearing high speed steel consists of martensitic matrix, retained austenite and different borocarbides. The as-cast alloy has a hardness above 64 HRC, and the borocarbides distribute along the grain boundaries. After RE-Mg-Ti compound modification treatment, obvious necking and broken network appear in the grain boundaries. The hardness of boron-bearing high speed steel roll materials reduces gradually with the increase of tempering temperature. Under the same conditions, the toughness of the modified roll material is higher than that of the unmodified roll material. Wear tests show that the wear resistance of boron-bearing high-speed steel modified by RE-Mg-Ti compound modification treatment is better.

Methods of obtaining chromium-coated coatings are considered and technology for the formation of boron, silicon and titanium protected layers on steels under conditions of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis is presented. Using the methods of mathematical modeling, when obtaining wear-resistant coatings on machine parts in conditions of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis, optimal compositions of SHS mixtures have been developed. When tested in sliding friction conditions, the best abrasion resistance, among the coatings under consideration, are chromoaluminium-coated coatings. Their wear resistance is 4.8-5 times higher than in uncoated samples, chromoaluminosilicated and chromoalumotated in 2.1-3.5. The gas-transport method of coating with the help of SHS makes it possible to obtain steel 50 and U8A with increased physical and mechanical properties, without requiring high energy costs and time.

Opis:
The results of microstructure examinations and hardness measurements carried out on two selected grades of high-manganese cast steel with an austenitic matrix, i.e. GX120Mn13 and GX120MnCr18-2, are presented. The examinations of the cast steel microstructure have revealed that the matrix of the GX120MnCr18-2 cast steel contains the precipitates of complex carbides enriched in Cr and Mn with two different morphologies. The presence of these precipitates leads to an increase in hardness by approx. 30 HB compared to the GX120Mn13 cast steel. Samples cut out from the tested materials were loaded (10 strokes) with an energy of 53 J, and then a ball-on-disc tribological test was performed. The test was carried out in reciprocating motion under technically dry friction conditions. While analyzing the obtained results of the microstructure, hardness, and abrasion tests, it was found that the presence of the hard carbide precipitates in the plastic matrix of the tested GX120MnCr18-2 cast steel promoted an increase in hardness, but also led to chipping of these particles from the alloy matrix, thus contributing to micro-cutting during friction.

The results of the modification of austenitic matrix in cast high-manganese steel containing 11÷19% Mn with additions of Cr, Ni and Ti were discussed. The introduction of carbide-forming alloying elements to this cast steel leads to the formation in matrix of stable complex carbide phases, which effectively increase the abrasive wear resistance in a mixture of SiC and water. The starting material used in tests was a cast Hadfield steel containing 11% Mn and 1.34% C. The results presented in the article show significant improvement in abrasive wear resistance and hardness owing to the structure modification with additions of Cr and Ti.

Cast Hadfield steel is characterised by high abrasion resistance, provided, however, that it is exposed to the effect of dynamic loads. During abrasion without loading, e.g. under the impact of loose sand jet, its wear resistance drops very drastically. To increase the abrasion resistance of this alloy under the conditions where no pressure is acting, primary vanadium carbides are formed in the metallurgical process, to obtain a composite structure after the melt solidification. The primary, very hard, carbides uniformly distributed in the austenitic matrix are reported to double the wear resistance of samples subjected to the effect of a silicon carbide-water mixture.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of tribological tests on high manganese GX120Mn13 cast steel under technically dry friction conditions. The tests were carried out using a TRB3 ball-on-disc tribometer using a 6mm-diameter SiC ball as a counter-sample for a specimen made of GX120Mn13 cast steel containing a localised prehardening area on the test surface with a hardness of approximately 597 HV10 (the non-hardened area had a hardness of approximately 325–364 HV10). During the test, the ball travelled in a 16.68 mm diameter circle and passed through both hardening and non-hardened areas. The resulting erosion marks were assessed using an optical profilometer and scanning microscope tests, which showed that the maximum depth of erosion in the previously hardening area was 0.77 µm and was more than twice as deep as in the non-hardened areas surveyed. In contrast, the area of attrition was twice as small as in the non-hardened area located in the axis of the previously applied load and more than three times smaller, but in the area located on the side of the axis and 8.34 mm away from it. Thus, from the point of view of the abrasion resistance of GX120Mn13 cast steel, the validity of its prior hardening before the operation was confirmed.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań tribologicznych wysokomanganowego staliwa GX120Mn13 w warunkach tarcia technicznie suchego.

Purpose: This paper is devoted the investigation hydrogen influence on of wear resistance of high nitrogen steel (HNS) at dry and solid state lubricants assistant friction. It has been established that after hydrogenation at 250 N loading the wear rate increased by 2.9 ... 4.1 times. Microhardness of hydrogenated layer was 7.6 ... 8.2 GPa, that is increased after hydrogenation in two times. After adding the (GaSe)xIn1-x compounds to the tribo conjugates by X-ray diffraction analysis it has been established the appearance of new phases which formed during the friction process and detected on the friction surface. Design/methodology/approach: This work presents research results concerning the comparative tests of high nitrogen steels in the circumstances of dry rolling friction. It was conducted the experiments to determine the tribological properties of high-nitrogen steels under rolling friction. The test pieces were manufactured in the form of rollers, and rotated with a linear velocity 2.27 m/s (upper roller), 3.08 m/s (bottom roller). Upper roller is made from HNS was subjected for hydrogenation. Analysis of friction surfaces indicates the complex mechanism of fracture surfaces. The results of the local X-ray analysis and X-ray diffraction analysis has been established the appearance of new phases and elements on the friction surface. Findings: It has been found that the level of wear resistance of the investigated materials under hydrogenation. Compounds realize chemisorption, tribochemical mechanisms of the formation of thin protective (anti-wear, antifriction) layers on metal surfaces. Research limitations/implications: An essential problem is the verification of the results obtained using the standard mechanical tests, computer-based image analysis and other methods. Practical implications: The observed phenomena can be regarded as the basic explanation of reduces the plasticity characteristics after hydrogenation. Applying the (GaSe)xIn1-x compounds as a lubricant will allow the formation of films on friction surfaces that can minimize surface wear, which will contribute to the transition to a wear-free friction mode. The protective film is a barrier to high shear and normal loads, preserving the base metal of the part and providing reduced wear and friction. Originality/value: The value of this work is that conducted experiments permit to determine the tribological properties of high nitrogen steels under rolling friction after hydrogenation. After adding (GaSe)xIn1-x compounds to the tribo conjugates after due to X-ray diffraction analysis it has been established the appearance of new phases which formed during the friction process and detected on the friction surface.

For tests, the high-manganese cast steel containing 10.7, 17.9 and 20.02% Mn was selected. The results of microstructure examinations and abrasion wear resistance tests carried out on the material in non-hardened condition and after strain hardening with a force of 539.55kN were disclosed. Additionally, the surface of samples after a 16-hour cycle of abrasion tests was examined. Moreover, based on the obtained results, the effect of different contents of Mn in cast steel was studied, mainly in terms of its impact on the abrasion wear resistance. The results obtained on the tested materials were compared with the results obtained on the low-alloyed abrasion wear-resistant cast steel L35GSM.
