Opis:
Heterocyclic aromatic compounds containing sulfur (S-HET), have been detected in air, soil, marine environment and freshwater sediment. Toxicity and mutagenicity data of this class of substances are scarce. The present study focuses on implications of two aryl thiophenes and their mutagenic properties in Salmonella/microsome test. In our experiment only 2,4-diphenylthiophene showed little mutagenic effect in both variants of activaction (+/-S9) in strain TA100. Thiophene ring joined to K-region of phenanthrene did not change the biological activity of 3,6-dimetoxyphenanthro [9,10-c]thiophene and this compound did not show mutagenic potency.

Opis:
The objective of this work was to prepare benzofuroxan derivatives as new, dense, potentially energetic materials and to investigate their properties, with the main focus being on 5,6-dinitrobenzofuroxan (5,6-DNBF). 5,6-DNBF was prepared by a 3-step reaction sequence: a) 1-azido-3-nitrobenzene was synthesized by diazotation of 3-nitroaniline with sodium nitrite and subsequent reaction with sodium azide in acetic/sulfuric mixed acids; b) it was nitrated with HNO3/H2SO4 to 1-azido-2,4,5-trinitrobenzene; c) thermal cyclization of the latter compound in a polar solvent gave the desired 5,6-DNBF (m.p. 177 °C). It was fully characterized by UV/VIS, FT-IR and NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The density of the compound (X-ray) was found to be comparatively high (1.88 g/cm3), and to be superior to the previously known, isomeric energetic material ? 4,6-dinitrobenzofuroxan (4,6-DNBF) (1.76 g/cm3). Furthermore, the synthesis of some other benzofuroxan derivatives, potentially interesting as high energy, density materials (HEDMs), has been carried out. The densities of the compounds obtained were calculated using ACD Labs software (version 4.0). Based on the results obtained, it could be concluded that 5,6-DNBF is one of the densest nitro derivatives of the benzofuroxan series, comparable to CL-14, CL-17, CL-18, and thus could have potential applications as an HEDM.

Tautomerism is a phenomenon of existing of structural isomers of the compound, which are in balance with each other. The most common type of tautomerism associated with migration of hydrogen and redistribution of electron density is prototropic tautomerism. Tautomers generally differ significantly in physicochemical properties and reactivity. Researches on tautomeric balance were the subject of broad interest to biochemists. Several compounds exhibiting biological activity may in fact occur in more than one tautomeric form. It is recognized that tautomers plays an important role in the interaction with DNA molecules, processes transporting living matter, or the appearance of spontaneous mutations. Therefore, for many years the researches on this phenomenon have been conducted, both experimental and theoretical.

Opis:
Over the last 20 years asymmetric aminocatalysis has emerged as highly useful and reliable method of asymmetric synthesis. It involves the use of primary or secondary amines as catalysts of various stereoselective transformations of carbonyl substrates. Owing to the diverse activation strategies available in asymmetric aminocatalysis, it became a method of choice when the functionalization of prochiral aldehydes and ketones is considered. As a consequence, a direct and straightforward access to various chiral building blocks is possible that is of relevance to modern stereocontrolled organic synthesis. In the manuscript, the development of various aminocatalytic activation concepts is described and recent, selected contributions to this field of chemistry discussed. Main advantages of these strategies are highlighted providing an overview of this fascinating area of research.
