Opis:
The article deals with the numerical modeling and simulation of dynamic heating processes. The mathematical models, based on classical Fourier’ s law and Vernotte equation were described. Both models can be used for analysis of the electro - thermal processes. The numerical model of exemplary heating process was created and implemented in the Mathcad environment. The calculation results of two different models of heat transfer were compared. The modeling accuracy and the range of applicability of the described models were determined.

The purpose of the study is to determine the sorption capacity of hard coals from Polish collieries with respect to several sorbets: ethane, ethylene, propane, propylene. The knowledge of the sorption capacity of coal with respect to a wide range of sorbates is essential to ensure the miners' safety and to allow for reliable forecasting fire hazard and self-heating of coal. The self-heating process is evaluated using specialist indicators based on hydrocarbon contents in mine air. Coal properties, such as porosity, coal rank, maceral content, moisture, ash and volatile matter contents as well as proportion of mineral substances are of key importance for understanding the processes taking place on the hard coal-gas interface. The quantitative analysis of these parameters supported by sorption tests will provide us information about the coal's structure's tendency to accumulate and release gases and vapours. It is important to determine the accessibility of the internal coal structure to gases and to investigate the influence of the micro- and submicro-porosity on the process of sorption. Concentrations of non-saturated hydrocarbons: ethylene and propylene are good indicators used to evaluate the scale of the self-heating process. Therefore, we need to reliably establish whether hydrocarbons present in mine air are released only through the self-heating process or whether they can be also accumulated in the coal structure and then desorbed when the conditions should change. Although preventive measures have been put place in Polish collieries, endogenous fire are still fairly frequent, so the hazard control based only on concentrations of non-saturated hydrocarbons may prove insufficient. It is also necessary to determine whether those hydrocarbons can be accumulated in coal, what factors will trigger this process and in what extent. Results of such tests will contribute to fire prevention and will help control other hazards associated with underground mining operations.

Opis:
In this article interest is concentrated on the climate parameters optimization in passengers’ interior of mechatronic systems (public electric transportation vehicles- train, tram or trolleybus). Idea is to use feed forward artificial neural network to create an algorithm and coordination mechanism for heating system parameters control to save electrical energy, and to increase the level of comfort for passengers. A special interest for investigations and further development is devoted to intelligent HVAC system allowing more flexible control of the system’s compressor, fan and heater operation, and, therefore, improvement of efficiency and energy saving. This paper provides the mathematical model and algorithm for optimal control of the climate control system.

Introduction: Acrylamide is used for wide range of industry purposes and it is produced in food during heating process. Foods with high acrylamide concentration include French fries, chips, bread crust, cereal, different baked goods. The electrophilic nature of acrylamide allows to interact with biological molecules. It is easily absorbed via the ingestion, inhalation or through the skin. Objective: Evaluation of dietary exposure to acrylamide in chosen population with respect to different age groups in South Poland and assessment of health risk. Material and Methods: Food consumption survey was conducted among 3 southern provinces in Poland. Studies involved 1470 participants. A semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire was used. Consumption data of individuals were calculated into μg/kgbw/day. Statistics was calculated for both whole group and different age groups. MOE values were calculated. Results: Average acrylamide intake was 0.85 ± 0.82 μgacrylamide/kgbw per day and calculated 95th percentile was 1.70 μgacrylamide/kgbw/day. In general total dietary exposure decreased with age from 1.51 μgacrylamide/kgbw/day for the youngest group (6–12 years old) to 0.67 μgacrylamide/kgbw/day for the oldest one (42–60 years old). The main contributor of acrylamide in diet in all age groups are bakery products. The MOE values calculated for average acrylamide exposure in diet was 212 and 365 for BMDL10 0.18 and 0.31 mg/kgbw/day. Conclusions: Young population consume the highest amount of acrylamide thus any efforts should be done to rise their nutritional knowledge and to decrease intake of high acrylamide products (crisps and French fries). The need for promotion of knowledge how to decrease acrylamide level especially in home-made food regardless of age is necessary.

Opis:
Heating of materials is energy and costly operations. On those reasons optimization is highly desirable. One of the possible solutions to optimize heating in real time is to use a large number of fast simulations on the basis of them the optimization algorithms have chosen the most appropriate option of the heating control. This solution implies the use of extremely fast but sufficiently accurate simplified mathematical models of heating, the structure and parameters of them are defined based on accurate modelling using computationally intensive but slower classical mathematical-physical models. Based on the operating data of the reheating furnace was build an accurate model of heating. Using the simplified model simulation of heating was done with different heating conditions with downtime during heating. Proposed algorithms including the simulations show that the proposed strategy leads to verifiable savings during heating.
Nagrzewanie materiałów jest procesem energochłonnym i kosztowny. Dlatego optymalizacja tych procesów jest bardzo pożądana. Jednym z rozwiązań umożliwiających optymalizacje nagrzewania w czasie rzeczywistym jest przeprowadzenie dużej liczby szybkich symulacji, na podstawie których algorytmy optymalizacji wybierały najodpowiedniejszą wersję sterowania nagrzewaniem. Rozwiązanie takie zakłada stosowanie niezwykle szybkich ale wystarczająco dokładnych uproszczonych matematycznych modeli nagrzewania, których struktura i parametry określane są na podstawie dokładnych, ale wolno działających klasycznych modeli matematyczno-fizycznych. Na podstawie danych eksploatacyjnych pieca grzewczego zbudowano model dokładny, a następnie korzystając z jego wersji uproszczonych przeprowadzono symulacje dla różnych warunków nagrzewania uwzględniając przestoje w trakcie nagrzewania. Zaproponowane algorytmy wraz z wynikami symulacji pokazują, że proponowane podejście prowadzi do znaczących oszczędności w trakcie nagrzewania.

Heat transfer processes occurring in the micro-domains can be described using the dual-phase lag equation (DPLE). This equation can be applied as a model of heating of the thin metal film subjected to the femtosecond laser pulse. In the paper, the 1D dual phase lag equation containing the additional internal heat source resulting from the laser pulse irradiation and supplemented by the appropriate boundary and initial conditions is considered. Appearing in this equation two lag times τq the phase lag of the heat flux) and τT (the phase lag of the temperature gradient) are taken into account. An analytical solution of this equation under the assumption that τT > τq is presented. The separation of the variables technique and the Green’s function method are used in order to find this solution. In the final part of the paper, the example of computations is presented.

The homogeneous soft tissue domain subjected to an external heat source is considered. Thermal processes in this domain are described using the well known Pennes equation and next the Cattaneo-Vernotte one. Within recent years the prevailing view is that the Cattaneo-Vernotte equation better describes the thermal processes proceeding in the biological tissue (it results from the specific internal tissue structure). Appearing in this equation the delay time of heat flux with respect to the temperature gradient (τq) is of the order of several seconds and the different values of τq are taken into account. At the stage of numerical modeling the finite difference method is used. In the final part of the paper, the examples of computations are shown.

Opis:
In the paper the use of the artificial neural network to the control of the work of heat treating equipment for the long axisymmetric steel elements with variable diameters is presented. It is assumed that the velocity of the heat source is modified in the process and is in real time updated according to the current diameter. The measurement of the diameter is performed at a constant distance from the heat source (Δz = 0). The main task of the model is control the assumed values of temperature at constant parameters of the heat source such as radius and power. Therefore the parameter of the process controlled by the artificial neural network is the velocity of the heat source. The input data of the network are the values of temperature and the radius of the heated element. The learning, testing and validation sets were determined by using the equation of steady heat transfer process with a convective term. To verify the possibilities of the presented algorithm, based on the solve of the unsteady heat conduction with finite element method, a numerical simulation is performed. The calculations confirm the effectiveness of use of the presented solution, in order to obtain for example the constant depth of the heat affected zone for the geometrically variable hardened axisymmetric objects.

This paper identifies and describes the parameters of a numerical model generating the microstructure in the integrated heating-remelting-cooling process of steel specimens. The numerical model allows the heating-remelting-cooling process to be simulated comprehensively. The model is based on the Monte Carlo (MC) method and the finite element method (FEM), and works within the entire volume of the steel sample, contrary to previous studies, in which calculations were carried out for selected, relatively small areas. Experimental studies constituting the basis for the identification and description of model parameters such as: probability function, initial number of orientations, number of cells and number of MC steps were carried out using the Gleeble 3800 thermo-mechanical simulator. The use of GPU capabilities improved the performance of the numerical model and significantly reduced the simulation time. Thanks to the significant acceleration of simulation times, it became possible to comprehensively implement a numerical model of the heating-transformation-cooling process in the entire volume of the test sample. The paper is supplemented by results of performance tests of the numerical model and results of simulation tests.

Opis:
One of the most important types of heat treatment that high-carbon steel wires are subjected to is the patenting treatment. This process is conducted with the aim of obtaining a fine-grained uniform pearlitic structure which will be susceptible to plastic deformation in drawing processes. Patenting involves two-stage heat treatment that includes heating the wire up to the temperature above Ac3 in a continuous heating furnace (in the temperature range of 850÷1050°C) followed by a rapid cooling in a tank with a lead bath down to the temperature range of 450÷550°C. The patenting process is most significantly influenced by the chemistry of the steel being treated, as well as by the temperature and the rate of heating and cooling of the wire rod or wire being patented. So far, heating up to the austenitizing temperature has been conducted in several-zone continuous gas-fired or electric furnaces. Recently, attempts have been made in a drawing mill to replace this type of furnace with fast induction heating, which should bring about an energy saving, as well as a reduced quantity of scale on the patented wire. This paper presents the analysis of the structure and mechanical properties of wires of high-carbon steel with a carbon content of 0.76%C after the patenting process using induction heating for different levels of the coil induction power.
Jednym z najważniejszych rodzajów obróbki cieplnej jakim poddaje się druty ze stali wysokowęglowych jest zabieg patentowania. Proces ten prowadzi się w celu otrzymania drobnoziarnistej, jednolitej struktury perlitycznej, która będzie podatna na odkształcenia plastyczne w procesach ciągnienia. Patentowanie polega na dwustopniowej obróbce cieplnej składającej się z procesu nagrzewania drutu do temperatury powyżej Ac3 w piecu grzewczym przelotowym (zakres temperatur 850÷1050°C) i następnie szybkim schłodzeniu w wannie z kąpielą ołowiową do zakresu temperatur 450÷550°C. Na proces patentowania najistotniejszy wpływ ma skład chemiczny obrabianej stali a także temperatura i szybkość nagrzewania oraz chłodzenia patentowanej walcówki lub drutów. Dotychczas nagrzewanie do temperatury austenityzacji realizowane jest w kilkustrefowych przelotowych piecach gazowych lub elektrycznych. Ostatnio w jednym z zakładów ciągarskich podjęto próby zastąpienia tego typu pieca szybkim nagrzewaniem indukcyjnym, co powinno zaowocować oszczędnością energii, jak i mniejszą ilością zgorzeliny na patentowanych drutach. W pracy przedstawiono analizę struktury i własności mechanicznych drutów ze stali wysokowęglowej o zawartości 0.76%C po procesie patentowania z wykorzystaniem indukcyjnego nagrzewania dla różnych poziomów mocy wzbudzenia induktora.

Maintaining railway turnout operability is crucial for ensuring railway transport safety. Electric heating of railway turnouts is a significant technical and economic issue. The classical heating is characterised by high power consumption. For this reason, research is needed to optimise the current system. This paper presents results of a numerical analysis and of experimental researches. The numerical analysis was carried out using the ANSYS software. There was conducted a numerical comparative analysis of energy loss during heating performed using two different heaters. Including the classical method and a heater thermally insulated from a rail. In the first step, heating of a working space filled with a substitute snow model was considered. The snow-covered surface area was held within the working space of the turnout. It was assumed that the snow substitute material had thermal properties approximately the same as real light snow. It was also assumed that the material is in the solid state which would not undergo a phase change. In the next step, a real snow model that included the phase change process was taken into account. The energy efficiency and heat distribution in the turnout have been analysed and compared. The experimental researches were carried out in a physical model. The results showed that the use of a contactless heater results in creating a larger area over which emitted heat affected snow in the working space. Consequently, more snow was melted around the contactless heater than the classic one. This experimental observation supported the results of the numerical analyses presented previously.

In the paper the transients under starting process and the steady states of squirrel-cage motor (IM) and line start permanent magnet synchronous motor (LSPMSM) have been compared. The original stator of 3 kW induction motor type Sg 100L-4B, was used in both structures. In order to determine opportunities to increase energy parameters of LSPMSM the heating curves of both motors were compared. In LSPMSM the rotor with aluminum and copper cage was used. The basic operating parameters of the two structures which are characterized by identical stators were tested. Particular attention has been given to the transient under starting process. Efficiency, power factor and current in the stator windings obtained during measurements for both structures have been presented. The paper focuses on achieving a much higher output power for LSPMSM than an induction motor of the same size. The selected results of experimental tests were shown.
