Opis:
Przedstawiono kalorymetryczne badania hydrożelu chitozanowego dotyczące mechanizmu sorpcji Cu(II), Ag(I) i Ca(II).
In the present research, studies were performed to determine the character of adsorption of Ca(II), Cu(II), Ag(I) ions in chitosan. The studies were carried out for chitosan hydrogel. The character of sorption was determined on the basis of calorimetric studies. The heat of reaction was measured during the sorption of individual ions. The process of adsorption was carried out for a maximum ion concentration. It follows from the measurement of the heat of sorption for Cu(II) and Ag(I) ions that the sorption process has a chemical character, which is shown by a measurable thermal effect of the order of dozens kJ/mol. It is interesting that Ca(II) ions which have an advantageous influence on living organisms, do not reveal this effect.

Opis:
Visual and auditory simple reaction times for both right and left hands of young university male students were recorded with a simple reaction timer, before and after an exercise schedule without and with elevated temperatures in a climatic chamber. The results indicated a decrease in both visual and auditory reaction times after the exercise, but a marked increase in them was noticed when exercise was performed at elevated temperatures. The difference in reaction times in preferred and nonpreferred hands was negligible at rest, i.e., without any exercise and elevated temperature. However, the difference was significant when exercise was performed at elevated temperatures. Visual reaction time was longer than auditory reaction time in all conditions. The results suggest that in hot industries, increased temperature has a specific rather than general effect on cognitive processes, perception and attentiveness, leading to increased chances of human errors, fatal accidents and loss of productivity.

In the paper, the effects of heat and dissolving processes of nitration of 1,2,4-triazol-5-one (TO) in an acidic environment were measured. The reaction calorimeter was used for the study. The kinetics of TO nitration in a 200-ml reactor was investigated by the use of a UV-VIS technique. Determined heat of TO nitration in the mixture of HNO₃/H₂SO₄/H₂O 60/40/40 was 1320 J/g, while in the case of nitration with 70% HNO₃, the heat was 1195 J/g. Heat of solution of TO in concentrated sulfuric acid was 576 J/g for 95% H₂SO₄ and 256 J/g for 80% H₂SO₄. The total heat of nitration in the mixture HNO₃/H₂SO₄/H₂O consists of the heat effects of TO solution and its nitration. A model of kinetics of synthesis of 3-nitro-1,2,4-triazol-5-one (NTO) was proposed and it was used to simulate the phenomena occurring in the calorimeter and in the reactor. The experimental data were compared with modelling results and parameters of Arrhenius equation for synthesis of NTO in the used nitration mixtures were determined.

Measurements were performed using a reaction calorimeter DRC Evolution delivered by Setaram. The heat of solution of MDP in concentrated sulfuric acid (95%), the heat of mixing of nitric acid (100%) with sulfuric acid (95%) and the heating effect of nitration of MDP in a mixture of nitric and sulfuric acids were measured. The heat of solution of MDP was 95±3 kJ/mol, while the total heat effect of nitration MDP was 392±9 kJ/mol. The measured heat of solution of acids was 34±2 kJ/mol HNO3. Analysis of literature data and own research allowed us to propose the model of kinetics for nitration of MDP. The model was used to simulate phenomena and reactions running in the reaction calorimeter. The experimental data were compared with modelling results. An exact solution of first order chemical reaction effects on a radiative flow past a linearly accelerated infinite isothermal vertical plate with variable mass diffusion, under the action of a transversely applied magnetic field has been presented. The plate temperature is raised linearly with time and the concentration level near the plate is also raised to C'w linearly with time. The dimensionless governing equations are tackled using the Laplace-transform technique. The velocity, temperature and concentration fields are studied for different physical parameters such as the magnetic field parameter, radiation parameter, chemical reaction parameter, thermal Grashof number, mass Grashof number, Schmidt number, Prandtl number and time. It is observed that velocity increases with decreasing magnetic field parameter or radiation parameter. But the trend is just reversed with respect to the chemical reaction parameter.

This paper presents a study of a hydromagnetic free convection flow of an electrically conducting micropolar fluid past a vertical plate through a porous medium with a heat source, taking into account the homogeneous chemical reaction of first order. A uniform magnetic field has also been considered in the study which acts perpendicular to the porous surface of the above plate. The analysis has been done by assuming varying permeability of the medium and the Rosseland approximation has been used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. Numerical results are presented graphically in the form of velocity, micro- rotation, concentration and temperature profiles, the skin-friction coefficient, the couple stress coefficient, the rate of heat and mass transfers at the wall for different material parameters. The study clearly demonstrates how a chemical reaction influences the above parameters under given conditions.

Finite difference solutions of the unsteady MHD flow past an impulsively started infinite vertical plate with uniform heat and mass flux are presented here, taking into account the homogeneous chemical reaction of first order. The dimensionless governing equations are solved by an efficient, more accurate, unconditionally stable and fast converging implicit scheme. The effects of velocity, temperature and concentration for different parameters such as chemical reaction parameter, Schmidt number, Prandtl number, thermal Grashof number, mass Grashof number and time are studied. It is observed that due to the presence of a first order chemical reaction, the velocity increases during the generative reaction and decreases in the destructive reaction. It is observed that the velocity decreases in the presence of the magnetic field, as compared to its absence.

This scientific paper presents the research on influence of austenitizing temperature on kinetics and evolution of the spheroidal plain cast iron during eutectoid reaction in isothermal conditions. The cast iron has been austenitized in temperatures of 900, 960 or 1020°C. Therewere two temperature values of isothermal holding taken into consideration: 760 or 820°C. The order of creation of reaction products and their morphology have been analyzed. The particular attention has been paid to the initial stage of transformation. The qualitative research has been executed using the transmission electron microscope (TEM), as well as quantitative research (LM). The influence of austenitizing temperature has also been determined on transformation kinetics and structural composition. It was found that the increase of austenitizing temperature is conductive to the initial release of structures by metastable system. A reduction of time was observed of the initial stage of transformation at temperature close to Ar12 with its simultaneous elongation at temperature close to Ar11, with an increase of austenitizing temperature. The dependences obtained by the metallographic method confirm the prior results of dilatometric research of eutectoid reaction.

A reliable method is introduced for predicting the detonation velocity of CHNOFClAl explosives through suitable decomposition paths. The predicted decomposition products are used to estimate the heat of detonation (decomposition) and the detonation velocity. For non-ideal aluminized explosives, the Chapman-Jouguet detonation velocities are significantly different from those expected from existing thermodynamic computer codes for equilibrium and steady state calculations. The predicted detonation velocities give more reliable results for CHNO explosives than one of the best available empirical methods over a wide range of loading densities. The new model provides better agreement with respect to experimental values for aluminized explosives than the computed results from the BKWS equation of state using full and partial equilibrium of aluminium.
