Opis:
The climatic conditions and the heating and cooling load between Ghent, Belgium, and Krakow, Poland, are compared. The cost of heating and cooling is calculated and compared. Heating in Belgium is done by using natural gas, just like in Poland, but due to higher gas prices, cost of heating is higher in Belgium than in Poland. That is why an interesting alternative for heating and cooling, namely borehole heat exchanger coupled with a heat pump, is calculated. This seems to be an economic and environmentally friendly alternative for heating and cooling.

Opis:
The paper outlines the essential factors influencing the precision of optimizing the values of definite scalar quantities according to the criteria that are used in designing heat exchangers. The paper refers to the method of designing heat exchangers of technical power systems in view of the required reliability of these systems described in the work [1]. Optimization is used for the velocity values of the flow of definite fluids through the heat exchanger and for the cooling fluid temperature T2’’ at the output of the definite heat exchanger, as they occur in significant relationships with definite scalar quantities in designing heat exchangers. The paper emphasizes divergences in the results of calculations of the above mentioned optimized values of definite scalar quantities on the example of designing a shell and tube condenser of marine steam turbine. The criterion of optimizing the values of definite scalar quantities is the minimum of total costs min Σ n i=1 Ki τ in the time τ. The time is the set value τ z and constitutes the period, in which the optimization is considered. The paper presents the following factors: time assumption τ z of the period, in which optimization is considered, price assumption of electrical energy KCe consumed in order to pump the cooling water in time τ z, assumption of the values of efficiency τ p of the pump of the cooling water in time τ z, assumption of the values of the friction factor λ str2 of the inside surfaces of the condenser tube in time τ z, at the cooling water flow, the selection of a model of the function determining the Nusselt number Nu2 from the set of models that can be used in a given designing case, price assumption (the selection of a manufacturer) of heat exchanger area KCA of a shell and tube condenser, assumption of the forecasted thickness δos2 of fouling on the heat exchanger area from the side of the flow of the condenser cooling water in time τ z. Finally, the conclusions resulting from the paper’s contents are presented.

Opis:
The use of suitable materials for the preparation of sealing grout is an important issue from the point of view of the correct construction of borehole heat exchangers and geothermal wells. The minimization of the loss of heat during the transport of thermal water in geothermal wells can be achieved by use of sealing slurries with reduced thermal conductivity. Such slurries are also recommended in the upper part of deep borehole heat exchangers and the upper part of energy piles. The publication describes the impact of the addition of diatomite as a material lowering the thermal conductivity of solidified grout.

Opis:
Borehole heat exchangers (BHE) are made as hydraulic systems consolidated by cement slurry in boreholes. They mediate in heat exchange between the receiver on the surface (heat pump), and the reservoir of thermal energy (rock mass). In the analytical description of temperature changes accompanying energy download and return to the rock mass, the temperature of the entire borehole heat exchanger is assumed to be the same. In fact, the exchanger temperature changes both in the vertical and horizontal cross-sectional view of the exchanger. Accordingly, the temperature of the interface of the hardened cement slurry and the rock mass differs from the one which was adopted for design calculations. The article shows the differences between the theoretical and actual state, when the temperature was measured with a thermal imaging camera. It also includes suggestions regarding the mathematical description of temperature changes on the side surface of the heat exchanger. Measurements were made by a model of a BHE equipped with a single U-tube.

In the paper presented are the issues related to the design and operation of micro heat exchangers, where phase changes can occur, applicable to the domestic micro combined heat and power (CHP) unit. Analysed is the stability of the two-phase .ow in such unit. A simple hydraulic model presented in the paper enables for the stability analysis of the system and analysis of disturbance propagation caused by a jump change of the flow rate. Equations of the system dynamics as well as properties of the working fluid are strongly non-linear. A proposed model can be applicable in designing the system of flow control in micro heat exchangers operating in the considered CHP unit.

Heat exchangers belong to the group of devices, whose proper operation is essential for the proper conduct of industrial processes. The growing influence of numerical methods in the design stage of exchanger, allows to optimize their design in terms of efficiency and meet the specified thermal parameters. A relatively new way to use numerical simulation is the study of unsteady heat transfer that characterized their work during failure. The article presents results of numerical analysis of the operation of a hypothetical heat exchanger with emergency leak of one of the coils. The effects of stream loss in the pipe and change of flow dynamics of entire system were taken into consideration. The importance of location of leak on the behavior of heat exchanger was also taken into account. The simulation was performed using the commercial software Autodesk Simulation CFD.

For the correct design, the number and the location of borehole heat exchangers, it is necessary to know thermal properties of rocks and the exchanger. This applies particularly to larger installations, more than 100 kW. One of the methods of determining these values is Thermal Response Test. This method is based on measurements in the first drilled borehole heat exchanger. Based on results of the TRT geothermal analysis is made. The analysis defines: the number of wells, the arrangement of wells, and the parameters of temperature of heat carrier after long-term use. This analysis based on calculations using specialist software. This paper presents the determination of the number of borehole heat exchangers and working conditions (temperature of the heat carrier) of an underground heat reservoir accessed using borehole heat exchangers for the building of the Primary School in Myszków.

The regeneration of rock mass heat resources with the use of four sources can be done with the use of installations owned by the Geoenergetics Laboratory, Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas AGH UST. This paper is devoted to one of them, i.e. an air heater. In the case of increased thermal energy consumption the rock mass can be excessively cooled, which may cause problems with providing thermal standard for buildings making use of ground as a source of heat. New additional sources supplementing the process of heat resources regeneration is a key element of maintaining the high efficiency of the heating-cooling system. A real case exemplifying how free thermal energy can be stored with an air heater in the summer season is discussed in this paper. The procedure and respective conclusions are analyzed. The results of most important measurements are tabularized and their functions plotted in the form graphs.

Opis:
The world’s demand for energy is constantly increasing mainly due to population growth and improved living standards. Currently, the share of electricity generation is 37 of the global primary energy consumption. Fossil-based electricity production is accounted for 68 of the total generation with coal, the most carbon-intensive fossil fuel, being the largest contributor (41) to the world’s electricity supply in 2012. Electricity demand is projected to grow rapidly and is also expected to be 70 higher in 2035, than the current demand. The Polish energy sector is heavily dependent on coal, resulting in large CO2 emission per capita. Poland has considerable potential for geothermal energy production, as there is a large number of deep, abandoned wells that might be utilized for geothermal energy production. Utilizing these resources would contribute to the CO2 emission reduction without negative impact on security of energy supply. Following paper describes method of reconstructing negative or abandoned oil and gas wells for Deep Borehole Heat Exchangers (DBHE). In many old boreholes, exploiting underground geothermal waters is impossible, thus adaptation for DBHE is sometimes the only option to utilize geothermal heat reservoirs. The insulated coaxial inner column which enables the circulation of heat carrier plays the crucial role in effective functioning of DBHE systems. Vacuum Insulated Tubing (VIT) can improve heat production as well as increase efficient energy use. This technique found plethora of applications in offshore and onshore deep drilling and production. Throughout recent years, VIT technology is being more commonly applied in geothermal industry. Negative or abandoned wells could be reconstructed for DBHE. To maximize the heat uptake from such boreholes, it is advised to use inner column made from material with lowest possible thermal conductivity coefficient. Article deals with possible application of vacuum pipes as inner column in deep coaxial borehole heat exchangers.

One of the most important elements of heat exchangers are perforated bottoms. These are perforated plates of significant thickness, in which heating cartridge pipes are mounted. For the designers of heat exchangers, the strength analusis of the connection between the elements, which allows for the determination of the state of stress and calculation of displacements of the perforated bottom after fixing the pipes in it, is of special importance. It results from carried out computations that the maximum reduced stresses in the perforated bottom are significantly lower than the values of admissible stresses. In this paper, computations of stresses and strains for various thicknesses of the perforated bottom have been presented. As a results of a decrease in the thickness of the perforated bottom, its deflectionincrease, and thus the heating system pipes are more exposed to strains and losses of stability.

In this study, instead of gasketed or brazed plate heat exchangers, which are used in various fields of application, a direct metal sintering method is used to design a heat exchanger with its original geometry and with different geometries. Studies of heat exchangers found in published literature were reviewed, and the thermal behaviors of the proposed unique designs were examined. Usually heat exchangers using this design do not use channel spacing angles of 30-45-60-75° for the plate ducts. The thermal behaviors of the fluid-circulating systems were analyzed using ANSYS FLUENT software, and they used the boundary conditions found in the literature for this design. Heat transfer between the heat exchanger channels and channel walls was calculated. The analyses results show that an increase in the amount of heat transfer surface area and also an increase in surface roughness increased the amount of positive heat transfer.
