    Opis:
    W artykule przedstawiono wyniki analiz różnic w wydajności opieki zdrowotnej świadczonej w szpitalach zlokalizowanych w zachodnich i południowych regionach Ukrainy. Oszacowano poziom wydajności przy użyciu techniki modelowania nieparametrycznego –metody DEA. Metoda ta stanowi narzędzie stosowane do porównań i oceny względnej skuteczności kilku jednostek gospodarczych będących jednostkami decyzyjnymi (DMU). W badaniu skupiono uwagę na różnicach w poziomie efektywności szpitali.
    This study examines variations in efficiency among hospitals located in western and southern Ukraine. We estimated efficiency using a nonparemetric modeling technique known as data envelopment analysis (DEA). DEA is a very powerful tool to compare relative efficiency among several economic units of study, known as decision making units (DMUS). In our current and previous research we have focused attention on comparative efficiency among hospitals and then explained variation in efficiency based on historical and cultural differences that influence managerial behavior at the hospital level of decision making. This study using current data and an expanded geographic territory provides further support to our findings from previous studies.

    Opis:
    Aim: Cooperative purchasing is considered a promising area for lowering the cost in the health care sector, although recent initiatives show mixed results. The purpose of this study is to find a thorough explanation for the performance of cooperative purchasing in healthcare by investigating the role of trust, commitment, organizational factors (i.e. group formality, and IT system effectiveness) and interpersonal skills (i.e. teamwork skills, and communication). Design/research method: A conceptual model for the performance of cooperative purchasing was developed. This model was empirically validated using a survey of 88 Dutch hospital purchasing professionals. Conclusions/findings: Analysis shows a significant impact of trust and commitment in cooperative purchasing groups on performance. Group formality and teamwork skills appear to be essential for achieving trust and cooperative purchasing performance. We also found a positive impact of IT system effectiveness on commitment, not on trust. Positive feelings about the group and positive expectation about the continuity of the group can be stimulated through effective IT systems. Since proper IT support is often neglected in many healthcare organizations, management efforts to improve IT systems could truly facilitate the tactical purchasing process of cooperative purchasing in hospitals. Originality/value of the article: Many cooperative purchasing initiatives suffer from conflicts over the allocation of savings, time, and costs. Despite the growing importance of cooperative purchasing, few empirical studies have explored the effects on hospital performance. Our study extends previous research by investigating the relationships between trust, commitment, and the performance of cooperative purchasing (1) and the impact of organizational factors and interpersonal skills on trust and commitment in purchasing groups within a healthcare context (2).

    Opis:
    Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to study how the Sars-Cov-19 pandemic has affected the processes and performance management of medium-sized outpatient clinics in Poland. Given the novelty of the studied area and lack of relevant literature, the case study approach has been employed. Design/methodology/approach: The case study was performed at CortenMedic, a medium 17 sized outpatient clinic located in Poland. We analyzed materials obtained from CortenMedic and interviewed its management board. Following an in-depth restructuring of processes, performance management, and business processes management governance, the CortenMedic adjusted to an environment and has taken advantage of opportunities. Findings: As a result, the CortenMedic recognized outstanding results superior to those before the Sars-Cov-19 period. This study shows that the business processes management and performance management should be dynamic and follow the changes identified inside and outside the companies. The changes through Sars-Cov-19 appear very quickly and are of temporary nature. We postulate the threat of the Sars-Cov-19 pandemic can be converted by the healthcare organizations into an opportunity. Research limitations/implications: Several limitations of our research must be acknowledged. Firstly, we shall note we based our study on only one organization located in Poland. Since we do not compare our results with other Polish and European clinics, obtained in this study results might not be generalizable. Practical implications: The increased role of BPM governance in the pandemic period, as compliance with processes, especially with work safety standards, become of utmost importance, posing a thrill of infection otherwise. In this sense, the postulates of this study might be applicable to other healthcare services providers. Additionally, the results of the paper can provide guidance to a decision-maker or management staff through improving the structure of primary and secondary processes depending on the needs and expectations of a dynamic environment. Social implications: The article’s findings may still offer astute insights to researchers and practitioners who wish to consider more information regarding the importance of the BPM and PM in the healthcare sector through the business process restructuring. Originality/value: The added value of the article is the answer to the question study how the Sars-Cov-19 pandemic has affected the BPM and performance management (PM) of medium 6 sized outpatient clinics in Poland.

    Opis:
    Purpose: The submitted article focuses on how to solve the problems faced by the European healthcare systems. Design/Methodology: The article consists of two sections. The first one is theoretical and presents interdisciplinary achievements of researchers. The second section includes examples of solutions applied in Sweden, Germany and Great Britain. In the theoretical part, books and articles on the methodology of VBHC creation were reviewed. The empirical part is based on reports on the introduction of VBHC. Findings: The desire to improve cost and clinical effectiveness indicates the need for a value-based healthcare (VBHC). Thus, the concept of VBHC should contribute, according to experts, economists as well as finance and management specialists, to the economic efficiency and clinical effectiveness. Research limitations/implications: Unfortunately, this is a lengthy process to be preceded by many activities. Healthcare registers and databases belong to the most important ones. Thanks to them, it is possible to create the key performance indicators (KPI) allowing for a rational health policy. Original value: To the achievements contained in the publications, the submitted article adds the need to take into account appropriately selected KPIs analyzing the macroeconomic environment for the functioning of hospitals.     Cel: przedłożony artykuł koncentruje się na celu, jakim jest rozwiązanie problemów, na jakie napotykają europejskie systemy ochrony zdrowia. Konstrukcja/Metodyka: artykuł składa się z dwóch części. Pierwsza z nich ma charakter teoretyczny i przedstawia interdyscyplinarny dorobek badawczy. Druga część zawiera przykłady rozwiązań wdrożonych w Szwecji, Niemczech i Wielkiej Brytanii. W pierwszej części dokonano przeglądu monografii i artykułów poświęconych metodyce tworzenia VBHC. Część empiryczna oparta jest na raportach przedstawiających wprowadzanie VBHC. Wyniki: chęć poprawy efektywności kosztowej i klinicznej skuteczności wskazuje na potrzebę wdrożenia VBHC. Koncepcja VBHC powinna zatem przyczynić się, zdaniem ekspertów, ekonomistów oraz specjalistów od finansów i zarządzania do poprawiania efektywności ekonomicznej i skuteczności klinicznej. Ograniczenia/implikacje badawcze: niestety jest to długotrwały proces poprzedzony wieloma czynnościami. Do najważniejszych z nich należy stworzenie rejestrów medycznych i baz danych. Dzięki nim możliwe jest tworzenie kluczowych wskaźników działalności (KPI) pozwalających na prowadzenie racjonalnej polityki zdrowotnej. Oryginalność/wartość: do dorobku zawartego w publikacjach przedłożony artykuł dodaje konieczność uwzględnienia odpowiednio wybranych KPI analizujących środowisko makroekonomiczne do funkcjonowania szpitali.
