Opis:
Objectives The main aim of this study was to examine the health behavior patterns of soldiers in the Hungarian Defense Forces and to introduce health behavior profiles according to the cluster analysis of lifestyle factors. Material and Methods The soldiers (N = 5475) who underwent health tests in 2011–2015 participated in this cross-sectional study. The factors included in the analysis are the following: age, sex, diseases diagnosed, the body mass index, eating habits, the smoking status, daily physical activity, sporting habits, the presence of psychosomatic symptoms, mental toughness and sleep apnea. The response options for each factor were scored on a linear scale; the minimum number of points available was –47.5 pts and the maximum number was 48.5 pts according to the 24 factors. Finally, the authors created health profiles typical of the pattern with the cluster analysis of the data. Results As a result of the cluster analysis, 16 distinct profiles were found, 10 of which differed significantly (p < 0.05) from each other. The lowest point value achieved was 3.1 pts and the highest was 26.2 pts. The lowest number of points was achieved by the cluster, 1.8% of the sample, with the highest average age (43.5±7.2 years) in which women showed the highest participation (46%). The 2 clusters with the highest numbers of points, 2.9% and 5.5% of the sample, were the 2 groups with the lowest average age (33.7±7.1 years and 34.3±7.9 years). Conclusions The significance of the health profiles obtained during this examination with the Hungarian Defense Forces is that the health promotion intervention opportunities may be determined by clusters, the health behavior factor with which the authors can reach higher health benefits can be chosen and the effectiveness of the interventions carried out can be traced easily. Background. Contemporary studies of health and evaluation attempts emphasize the holistic approach to health and its dimensions. The objective of the study was determination of health profiles and survival abilities among adolescents, and indicate differentiating variables. Material and methods. A diagnostic survey was used based on Kalina, investigating the subjective sense of health from the aspects of somatic, mental, social health and survival abilities. SPHSA was calculated as the arithmetic mean of individual health and total health measures. The study was conducted in 2014, in a group of 507 school adolescents aged 15-25 attending Medical Post-Secondary School in Lutsk, Ukraine. Results. Social health was evaluated by the adolescents in the most positive terms – 3.82 (±0.67), whereas survival abilities – in the most negative terms, 2.63(±0.75). In the domain of total health, the highest values occurred for daily physical activity – 3.10(±0.35), while the lowest – for occasional activity – 2.78 (±0.35). Similarly, significant differences were found between adolescents of the final, fourth year of school (2.82±0.73), and younger students. Significant correlations were demonstrated (p<0.05) in individual health profiles. With regard to survival capability, such correlation was observed in adolescents engaged in daily physical activity and students from big cities. In the somatic health profile it was observed in overweight adolescents and those who showed systematic physical activity and in the survival capability profile of adolescents pursuing systematic physical activity. With regard to the social health profile a significantly higher value occurred in first year students and those with the highest educational achievements. Conclusions. The results of the study obtained should be used in discussions concerning educational programmes for students of paramedical specialties in the Ukraine.
Wprowadzenie. Materiał i metody. Zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego na postawie oryginalnej metodologii Kaliny, która polega na badaniu subiektywnego poczucia zdrowia w zakresie czterech mierników: zdrowia somatycznego, psychicznego, społecznego i zdolności przetrwania. Indeks SPHSA obliczono za pomocą średniej arytmetycznej poszczególnych mierników zdrowia i zdrowia całkowitego. Badania zrealizowano w 2014 r., na grupie 507 uczniów w wieku 15-25 lat będących słuchaczami studium policealnego w Łucku na Ukrainie. Wyniki. Młodzież najwyżej oceniła swoje zdrowie społeczne 3,82 (±0,67), natomiast najniżej zdolności przetrwania 2,63(±0,75). W kategorii zdrowia całkowitego istotnie najwyższe wartości zaobserwowano u uczniów o codziennej aktywności ruchowej 3,10(±0,35), a najniższe wystąpiły u rówieśników o aktywności sporadycznej 2,78 (±0,35). Podobnie istotne różnice wykazano między uczniami ostatniej czwartej klasy (2,82±0,73), a klasami młodszymi. Wykazano istotne zależności (p<0,05 w poszczególnych profilach zdrowia. W zdolności przetrwania taki związek wystąpił u uczniów o codziennej aktywności ruchowej oraz u uczniów z dużych miast. W profilu zdrowia somatycznego w grupie uczniów z nadwagą i u osób o systematycznej aktywności fizycznej, a także w profilu zdolności przetrwania u uczniów o systematycznej aktywności fizycznej. W profilu zdrowia społecznego istotnie wyższą wartość wykazano u uczniów pierwszego roku studiów i najwyższych osiągnięciach edukacyjnych. Wnioski.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to present unmet expectations and needs of patients concerning the scope and quality of medical care. The complaints submitted with the Patients Ombudsman at the Ministry of Health have been deemed as exemplary, since this is a central authority of governmental administration relevant in cases regarding the protection of patients specified in the act, which encompasses the entire country in the scope of its powers. This is also the authority which has most often appeared in the mass media, hence it is the most probable thatthe patients will address exactly this institution with any problem they may have (very often without knowing any other way or procedure). The aim of the article is also to present selected strategies assumed by thepatients to allow them to solve the encountered difficulties. Recipients of benefits more and more effectively manage and undertake effective actions aimed at obtaining assistance to the extent they expect. They adopt attitudes proving the assumption of responsibility for their own health (empowered), which is proved even by their Internet activity to the extent of which they search for information on e.g. disease prevention, treatment, application of medicines or good nutrition (however, the conclusions in this regard one cannot generalize interms of the whole population of people enjoying medical benefits). In addition, the article presents also a process of changes with respect to the attitudes towards the value of health and changes occurring in the profile of the modern patient. Presentation of the selected problem area was made on the basis of the results of qualitative analysis of the scope and nature of the complaints submitted with the Patients’ Ombudsman (2009–2013) as well as a selective review and survey of the literature and its analysis.

Opis:
Purpose This study aimed to determine the effect of metal base removable partial dentures (MRPDs) and acrylic base removable partial dentures (ARPDs) on oral health-related quality of life. Design/methodology/approach The study was conducted on 40 patients. Twenty received ARPDs (nine in the maxilla and eleven in the mandible), and twenty received MRPDs (nine in the maxilla and eleven in the mandible). The patients were 45–65 years old. The impact of RPDs on the patient's quality of life was analysed with the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-ALB14) questionnaire. The differences in OHIP-14 between the two dentures at three different time points were estimated. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS software, version 22 (IBM), and a p-value<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Findings The OHIP-ALB14 score for both denture types was high at T1 and then remarkably decreased at T2 (p<0.05) and T3 (p<0.05), with no significant differences between MRPDs and ARPDs users. For ARPD users, the satisfaction level significantly increased (<0.001) after one year for the dimensions of Physical Pain, Functional limitation, and Psychological Discomfort. Whereas, for MRPD users, satisfaction level significantly increased (<0.001) in the dimensions of Functional limitation, Psychological Discomfort, and Psychological Disability after a year of denture use. Research limitations/implications The findings from this study can be taken as the first step towards future research with a longer post-operative follow-up that can analyse the differences between dentures if any. Practical implications The comparative analysis between ARPD and MRPD and their impact on the oral soft tissues will help prosthodontists reach accurate treatment decisions. Originality/value This study has not been conducted in the region of Kosovo before. Moreover, the engineers manufacturing dental prostheses will know about the effect of their product on oral health.

Opis:
Background. The number of patients with temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) is increasing in clinical dental practice. Our study aimed to determine whether a correlation between Parkinson’s disease and TMD symptoms can be established. Material and methods. The anamnestic and clinical dysfunctional indices and the correlations related to the quality of life (SF 36, QoL) of Parkinson’s disease patients (PG, n=35) and healthy controls (CG, n=42) were examined in a cross-sectional study. Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS 24.0 software. Results. The mean value (7.0±7.7) of the PG in the OHIP-14 (Oral Health Impact Profile) questionnaire was significantly higher (p<0.001) than that of the CG (2.0±3.7). The ratio of belonging to the asymptomatic (Ai0) group was higher in the CG (71.4%) than in the PG (45.7%). The number of moderate or severe symptoms (DiII and DiIII) was higher in the PG (37.1%) than in the CG (2.4%). The mean value of QoL of the PG (60.9±20.1) was significantly lower (p<0.001) than that of the CG (75.9±15.3). Conclusions. Results of the study support that patients with Parkinson’s disease have a higher incidence of TMD. Using the SF-36, we were able to quantify lower QoL of the PG.
Wprowadzenie. Materiał i metody. W badaniu przekrojowym wzięto pod uwagę anamnestyczne i kliniczne wskaźniki dysfunkcji oraz korelacje związane z jakością życia (kwestionariusz oceny jakości życia SF-36) u pacjentów z chorobą Parkinsona (PG, n=35) i u osób zdrowych (CG, n=42). Analizę statystyczną przeprowadzono przy użyciu oprogramowania SPSS 24.0. Wyniki. Wnioski. Wyniki badania potwierdzają, że pacjenci z chorobą Parkinsona częściej cierpią z powodu TMD. Dzięki zastosowaniu SF-36 określono ilościowo niższą jakość życia PG.

Introduction and objective. There is a significantly higher risk of lipid disorders occurrence, including atherogenic dyslipidemia in women after menopause than it is in general population. The aim of the work was to investigate the correlation between health behaviours and the occurrence of lipid disorders in women after menopause working in agriculture. Material and methods. The study was conducted in years 2015–2016 and included 843 post-menopausal women working in agriculture. The following were used: a questionnaire including socio-demographic data, laboratory lipid tests, inventory of health behaviours. The following were estimated: logistic regression models for serum lipids concentration versus frequency of health behaviours in the examined women. Results. Adverse lipid profile was found in over a half of post-menopausal women working in agriculture, whereas the frequency of health behaviours were estimated at the average level, although the frequency of correct eating habits and health practices was significantly lower than preventive behaviours and positive psychological attitudes. A correlation was found between the frequency of health behaviours and the occurrence of lipid disorders in women after menopause working in agriculture: more frequent health practices co-existed with the lower concentration of total cholesterol and a higher concentration of HDL-cholesterol, more frequent preventive behaviours co-existed with lower concentration of LDL-cholesterol. Women with higher concentration of triglycerides undertook pro-health practices relatively more often. Conclusions. The study revealed a high prevalence of lipid disorders in postmenopausal women working in agriculture. More effective health education programmes are necessary in the area of reduction the risk factors of CVD in the population of women working in agriculture.

ObjectivesThe objective of this study was to determine the effects of 2 physical exercise programs carried out during working hours in an office work environment on health-related parameters of employees.Material and MethodsThe participants included 47 healthy office worker volunteers (aged 45±11.95 years, 27% males) who formed 3 groups: circuit training (CT), brisk walk (BW), and control (C) groups. The interventions lasted 12 weeks with a weekly frequency of three 30-minute sessions in the middle of the workday. All employees were evaluated with a multicomponent battery test which included: anthropometric and body composition measurements, a cardiorespiratory fitness test, lipid profile, blood pressure, and mental health (depression, anxiety, and stress). Basic descriptive statistics were calculated. A repeated measures ANOVA was performed to summarize changes in the variables studied after the application of the physical exercise programs.ResultsGenerally, both exercise programs (CT and BW) maintained the body weight and body mass index while reducing body fat mass (a group × time interaction; 4.864 ≤ F ≤ 6.524, 0.001 ≤ p ≤ 0.015), although the CT intervention also showed relevant (inter-group) reductions in the waist-hip ratio (F = 11.311, p = 0.007) and increased skeletal muscle mass (F = 15.062, p = 0.003). Both exercise programs (CT and BW) improved the cardiorespiratory fitness test scores (a group × time interaction; F = 18.054, p < 0.001). There were no changes in the lipid profile or blood pressure after the interventions, but there was an improvement in mental health (4.760 ≤ F ≤ 8.087, 0.008 ≤ p ≤ 0.037).ConclusionsThe findings suggest that both types of programs could be implemented in the employees’ daily routine in order to improve their overall health. Nevertheless, studies with larger samples are necessary before the conclusions can be generalized.

Opis:
The objective of the study was to determine the effect of replacing triticale (high rumen degradable starch) with maize grain (low rumen degradable starch) during the transition period and the first 120 days of lactation on metabolic and hormonal profile indices, milk production and fertility performance in cows. Forty-eight Holstein-Friesian dairy cows were divided into 4 groups: TT (2.5 kg triticale grain/cow per day supplemented from 14 days prepartum to day 120 postpartum), TM (2.5 kg triticale grain/cow per day supplemented from day 14 before parturition to calving, and then 2.5 kg maize grain to 120 days of lactation), MT (2.5 kg maize grain/cow per day supplemented from day 14 before parturition to calving, and then 2.5 kg triticale grain to 120 days of lactation), MM (2.5 kg maize grain/cow per day supplemented from 14 days prepartum to day 120 postpartum). Blood samples were collected 3 weeks and 1 week before calving and on days 14, 56 and 70 of lactation, and they were analyzed in terms of concentrations of glucose, insulin, leptin, insulin-like growth factor I, nonesterified fatty acids, triglycerides, cholesterol, blood urea nitrogen and activities of aspartate aminotransferase and gamma glutamyl transpeptidase. Milk samples were collected twice a day at weekly intervals and analyzed for fat, protein and lactose. Milk yield and individual dry mater intake were recorded at weekly intervals. Body condition was estimated 3 weeks before calving, on parturition day and on days 14, 56 and 120 of lactation. Replacing triticale grain with maize grain in the transition period and during lactation positively affected fertility of lactating cows. An increased first service conception rate and shortening of the days open period was observed in MM and TM groups in comparison to those found in group MT (P ≤ 0.05). The lowest number of services per conception was recorded in groups MM and TM (P ≤ 0.05). Although the impact of milk production and the most of the blood indices were not significantly affected by this treatment, the results of the study suggest that maize grain in the transition period and lactation might be a more effective energy source for dairy cows than triticale grain.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to check whether the information for colon cancer patients available on top websites devoted to this disease is comprehensible for the readers or whether, due to high saturation with special medical terms, it is beyond the recommended readability level of an average internet user. Two main criteria of analysis were involved in the study: readability and lexical sophistication. The methods used in the study include 8 readability tests (ARI, Colemen-Liau, New Dale-Chall, Flesch-Kincid, Fry, Gunning Fog, Raygor Estimate, and SMOG), TAALES software and Lexical Complexity Analyser used to examine syntactic and lexical parameters of texts, and a corpus-assisted web-based tool used for lexical sophistication called VocabProfile. The study has shown that none of the 30 websites under scrutiny meets the demand of the recommended readability level, and that higher lexical sophistication involves a lower readability level.
