    The purpose of the article/hypothesis: The purpose of this paper is to attempt to justify the thesis that the health potential of human and society has an impact on economic well-being, contributing to the economic growth of countries, and thus their enrichment.Methodology: In order to examine the significance and strength of the impact of health capital on productivity on a macroeconomic scale, an econometric model of economic growth was used and six estimations were made in which the impact of subsequent components of this capital was examined.Results of the research: It turned out that 4 out of 6 introduced variables of health capital significantly influenced economic growth, and their direction is consistent with the economic theory. This implies necessity for further studies.

    The concept of sustainable development refers to efforts to improve in a harmonious way economic, social and environmental dimensions. One of the main aspects of the social dimension of sustainable development is public health. In the introduction the role of indicator systems to monitor the effectiveness of any policy, including sustainable development is recalled. Usually such systems contain a subset of the public health indicators. This is the case Eurostat and GUS databases. In the paper a qualitative analysis of such subset of indicators available through the Eurostat database is carried out. The life expectancy is the leading indicator with a variant of the healthy life years. Quoted is the rationale for excluding this variant from analyzes that compare different populations due to subjectivity of this option. Later in the article a lack of indicators to which a visible impact on the leading indicator could be attributed is concluded. Consequently, the subset of indicators under consideration can not be treated as a decision support tool. Thus, its meaning is limited to the information and comparison purposes.

    This article discusses the most serious and frequent health problems among children and adolescents in Poland, the main reasons causing these problems and prospects for the future. The paper begins with a rationale for promoting children’s and adolescents’ healthcare and the modern approaches to the health assessment. In the next sections selected issues related to health condition of children and adolescents are discussed: trends in physical and motor developments, subjective health status, health behaviours, mortality, main health problems (injuries, psychosocial health problems, chronic diseases, obesity, dental caries, disability, cancer, infectious diseases, disorders of vision, hearing and motor systems).

    W artykule przedstawiono ocenę dostępności usług zdrowia w gminach powiatu płockiego. Dokonano analizy na płaszczyźnie społecznej oraz przestrzennej. W celu zobrazowania problemu przestrzenne cechy odniesiono do liczby obiektów opieki zdrowotnej oraz udzielonych porad. Rozważania zostały oparte na 8 cechach uzyskanych z Banku Danych Lokalnych (BDL-u) i znormalizowanych do wartości porównywalnych. Analiza wykazała duże zróżnicowanie w gminach powiatu płockiego w aspekcie dostępności społeczno-przestrzennej usług zdrowia. Gminami o zdecydowanie najlepszej obsłudze usługami zdrowia są Radzanowo i Brudzeń Duży, a najsłabsza sytuacja występuje w Małej Wsi i Słubicach.
    The article presents an assessment of the availability of health services in the communes of the Płock poviat. An analysis was made at the social and spatial level. In order to illustrate the problem, the spatial features have been confined to the number of healthcare facilities and advice provided. The considerations were based on 8 features obtained from Local Data Bank and normalized to comparable values. The analysis showed a large diversity of the Płock poviat in terms of socio-spatial accessibility of health services. By far the communes with the best healthcare services are Radzanowo and Brudzeń Duży, and the poorest situation is in Mała Wieś and Słubice.

    In the work the approach to analyse the state of the health resorts located in Podkarpackie province was presented. The characteristics of Horyniec-Zdrój, Iwonicz-Zdrój, Polańczyk and Rymanów-Zdrój include a historical overview, description of climate, soil and water, health resort protection zones, available mineral water and medical raw materials and also description of performed treatments. The analysis was made on the basis of statistical data concerning the number of active centres, the number of patients, the number of performed treatments and the analysis of municipal infrastructure in the years 1995-2016. The analysis was performed on the basis of statistical data from Central Statistical Office. Additionally, the indicators of water supply infrastructure development and indicators of tourism development were calculated. The work is aimed at analysing all health resorts bases in the Podkarpackie province and determining which health resort develops best, where individual treatments are offered, as well as what medical raw materials caused that these places provide balneological treatments.
    W pracy przedstawiono analizę baz uzdrowiskowych znajdujących się na terenie województwa podkarpackiego. Wykonano charakterystykę miejscowości Horyniec-Zdrój, Iwonicz-Zdrój, Polańczyk i Rymanów-Zdrój zawierającą rys historyczny, opis klimatu, gleb i wody, strefy ochrony uzdrowiskowej, dostępne wody mineralne i surowce lecznicze oraz opis przeprowadzanych zabiegów. Analizę wykonano na podstawie danych statystycznych dotyczących liczby działających ośrodków, liczby kuracjuszy, liczby wykonanych zabiegów oraz infrastruktury komunalnej w latach 1995-2016. Analizę sporządzoną na podstawie analizy danych statystycznych zebranych przez Główny Urząd Statystyczny. Ponadto dla tych miejscowości uzdrowiskowych obliczono wskaźniki rozwoju infrastruktury wodociągowej oraz wskaźniki rozwoju turystycznego. Praca ma na celu analizę wszystkich baz uzdrowiskowych na terenie województwa podkarpackiego oraz określenie, które z uzdrowisk rozwija się najlepiej, gdzie oferowane są poszczególne zabiegi, a także jakie naturalne surowce lecznicze spowodowały, że akurat te miejscowości świadczą zabiegi balneologiczne.

    As a result arising from the implementation of the Mission Oriented Scorecard should be the improvement of the functioning of the organization, and consequently the implementation of the vision, or at a shorter period of time- the strategy of the organization. It occurs however, that in organizations where the system is implemented (or its components), there is a situation in which employees, being accountable for a specific value metrics, carry undesirable actions from the point of view of the mission and the strategy of the company. The aim of this article is to examine the function-oriented mission Scorecard as a tool for leading employees (including managers) to achieve the objectives of the organization and to examine these problems in the functioning of the Mission Oriented Scorecard.

    Opis:
    Purpose: The submitted article focuses on how to solve the problems faced by the European healthcare systems. Design/Methodology: The article consists of two sections. The first one is theoretical and presents interdisciplinary achievements of researchers. The second section includes examples of solutions applied in Sweden, Germany and Great Britain. In the theoretical part, books and articles on the methodology of VBHC creation were reviewed. The empirical part is based on reports on the introduction of VBHC. Findings: The desire to improve cost and clinical effectiveness indicates the need for a value-based healthcare (VBHC). Thus, the concept of VBHC should contribute, according to experts, economists as well as finance and management specialists, to the economic efficiency and clinical effectiveness. Research limitations/implications: Unfortunately, this is a lengthy process to be preceded by many activities. Healthcare registers and databases belong to the most important ones. Thanks to them, it is possible to create the key performance indicators (KPI) allowing for a rational health policy. Original value: To the achievements contained in the publications, the submitted article adds the need to take into account appropriately selected KPIs analyzing the macroeconomic environment for the functioning of hospitals.
    Cel: przedłożony artykuł koncentruje się na celu, jakim jest rozwiązanie problemów, na jakie napotykają europejskie systemy ochrony zdrowia. Konstrukcja/Metodyka: artykuł składa się z dwóch części. Pierwsza z nich ma charakter teoretyczny i przedstawia interdyscyplinarny dorobek badawczy. Druga część zawiera przykłady rozwiązań wdrożonych w Szwecji, Niemczech i Wielkiej Brytanii. W pierwszej części dokonano przeglądu monografii i artykułów poświęconych metodyce tworzenia VBHC. Część empiryczna oparta jest na raportach przedstawiających wprowadzanie VBHC. Wyniki: chęć poprawy efektywności kosztowej i klinicznej skuteczności wskazuje na potrzebę wdrożenia VBHC. Koncepcja VBHC powinna zatem przyczynić się, zdaniem ekspertów, ekonomistów oraz specjalistów od finansów i zarządzania do poprawiania efektywności ekonomicznej i skuteczności klinicznej. Ograniczenia/implikacje badawcze: niestety jest to długotrwały proces poprzedzony wieloma czynnościami. Do najważniejszych z nich należy stworzenie rejestrów medycznych i baz danych. Dzięki nim możliwe jest tworzenie kluczowych wskaźników działalności (KPI) pozwalających na prowadzenie racjonalnej polityki zdrowotnej. Oryginalność/wartość: do dorobku zawartego w publikacjach przedłożony artykuł dodaje konieczność uwzględnienia odpowiednio wybranych KPI analizujących środowisko makroekonomiczne do funkcjonowania szpitali.

    As part of the European Public Health project IMCA II validity and practicability of “air pollution” as a respiratory health indicator were analyzed. The definitions of air quality as an indicator proposed by the WHO project ECOEHIS and by IMCA I were compared. The public availability of the necessary data was checked through access to web-based data-bases. Practicability and interpretation of the indicator were discussed with project partners and external experts. Air quality serves as a kind of benchmark for the good health-related environmental policy. In this sense, it is a relevant health indicator. Although air quality is not directly in the responsibility of health policy, its vital importance for the population’s health should not be neglected. In principle, data is available to calculate this IMCA indicator for any chosen area in Europe. The indicator is relevant and informative, but calculation and interpretation need input from local expert knowledge. The European health policy is well advised to take air quality into account. To that end, an interdisciplinary approach is warranted. The proposed definition of air quality as a (respiratory) health indicator is workable, but correct interpretation depends on expert and local knowledge.

    Objectives To compare the number and quality of public, environmental and occupational health articles published in international journals from the 3 major non-English speaking countries of East Asia: China, Japan and Korea. Material and Methods Public, environmental and occupational health articles from China, Japan and Korea that were published in 161 journals from 2003 to 2012 were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) database. We recorded the numbers of total articles, impact factors (IF), citations, number of articles in top 10 journals, references as well as the article distribution from various regions in China. Results From 2003 to 2012, China, Japan and Korea published 5713, 3802 and 1967 papers respectively, with accumulated impact factor of 14 934.55, 8758.36 and 6189.25, the average impact factor of 2.61, 2.30 and 3.15 and the average citation numbers per document of 5.08, 6.49 and 5.25. In the top 10 high-impact public, environmental and occupational health journals, China, Japan and Korea accounted for 50.19%, 20.34% and 29.47% of all the papers published in those journals, respectively. Total impact factors of the most popular 10 papers for China, Japan and Korea were: 26.23, 27.08 and 26.91. Distribution of scientific papers among regions was unbalanced in China, for Hong Kong and Taiwan it accounted for 47.31% of the papers from China. Conclusions From 2003 to 2012, both the quality and number of papers from China published in public, environmental and occupational health journals have greatly improved. China exceeded Japan and Korea in the number, accumulated impact factor, total citation times and the average number of references, while Korea had the highest average impact factor. Japan had the highest journal impact factor among the most popular journals, and the highest average citation number per document.

    The aim of this paper is to present the possibility of using multidimensional comparison analysis and DEA to evaluate the efficiency of the hospitals for with the payer is the National Health Fund (NHF). There were used Hellwig's taxonomical meter of development and DEA method letting to analyze the relative efficiency of the units surveyed. The obtained results allow to determine the relative efficiency of hospitals care in individual voivodships.

    Health indicators – definitions, functions, classificationsAspiration for health care system improvement can be observed in almost each country. However the health policy activities should be based on comprehensive and reliable information about current health status of population, health care system performance valuation and monitoring, health needs and identification of priorities in the health sector. The information can be efficiently collected and presented in the form of health indicators. The health indicators application in the epidemiology is obvious, but rapid growth of health expenditures in the last years causes considerable increase of interest in the problems of wider usage of health indicators.If we assume wide health indicators definition they could be divided into four groups, depending on the field they concern: indicators of population characteristics, indicators of individual and population health status, indicators of non-medical determinants of health and indicators of health system performance. The analysis of health indicators indicates their  following functions: information, diagnosis, planning, comparing, prognosis, monitoring, evaluation. Many indicators may perform different  functions, depending on the level of usage and the main aims defined.

    The objective of this study was to assess the relations between health spending and selected indicators of healthcare efficiency in the classification of healthcare financing systems in OECD countries. The study also provides an insight into the amount of health spending and healthcare efficiency, represented by life expectancy at birth, positive health self-assessment, and the health care index. The relationships of the selected variables were primarily examined in per their classification according to the health financing system. Aspects falling under the main objective were analysed through statistical descriptive analysis and analysis of relationships. The relationship between the level of funding in terms of GDP and the outputs of healthcare efficiency was confirmed. However, this connection was not confirmed when considering the healthcare financing system. The national health financing appeared to be the only system where the relationship existed. Simultaneously, the importance of managing an efficient healthcare financing system can be highlighted.
    Celem tego badania była ocena efektywności wydatków na opiekę zdrowotną, w zależności od rodzaju systemu finansowania opieki zdrowotnej w krajach OE D. Badanie zapewnia również wgląd w wysokość wydatków na zdrowie i efektywność opieki zdrowotnej, reprezentowanych przez oczekiwaną długość życia w chwili urodzenia, pozytywną samoocenę zdrowia i wskaźnik opieki zdrowotnej. Zależności wybranych zmiennych badano przede wszystkim według ich klasyfikacji godnie systemem finansowania opieki zdrowotnej. Aspekty wchodzące w zakres celu głównego analizowano poprzez statystyczną analizę opisową i analizę zależności. Potwierdziliśmy związek między poziomem finansowania pod względem PKB a wynikami wydajności opieki zdrowotnej. Związek ten nie został jednak potwierdzony przy rozważaniu systemu finansowania. Wydaje się, że krajowe finansowanie opieki zdrowotnej jest jedynym systemem, w którym istnieje związek. Jednocześnie można podkreślić znaczenie zarządzania wydajnym systemem finansowania opieki zdrowotnej.

    The subject of occupational health and safety in terms of the GRI indicators has been presented in this article. GRI indicators are used in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) reporting. This article is an attempt to answer the question: are the published indicators the result of actual implementation of occupational health and safety management strategy or are they just part of building an image and reputation of a company that is socially responsible?
    W publikacji przedstawiono zagadnienia bezpieczeństwa i higieny pracy w ujęciu wskaźników GRI (ang. Global Reporting Initiative), które są stosowane w raportowaniu społecznej działalności firm (ang. CRS – Corporate Social Responsibility). Artykuł jest próbą odpowiedzi na pytanie: czy publikowane wskaźniki są rezultatem rzeczywistego wdrażana strategii zarządzania bezpieczeństwem i higieną pracy, czy też są tylko elementem budowania wizerunku i reputacji firmy odpowiedzialnie społecznej.

    In this paper we consider the impact of Human Development Index and Environmental Health on sustainable development in 178 observed countries. We focus on the necessity of multidisciplinary approaches that estimate and predict how selected indicators such as (1) Improved sanitation facilities (% of population with access); (2) Life expectancy at birth, female (years); (3) Improved water source, rural areas (% of rural population with access); (4) Access to electricity (% of population), and (5) Health expenditure per capita (current USD) influence on sustainable development and environmental health in the World. The Environmental Health and Human Develop-ment Indicator allow countries to compare their social and environmental inequalities with other surrounding countries/regions. Any correlations between Environmental Health and Human Development Index as well as with five World Bank indicators were to be analyzed. The objective was also to explore the heterogeneity of observed countries according to their level of sustainable development based on Environmental Health and Human Devel-opment Index.
    W artykule przedstawiono wpływ wskaźników Rozwoju Społecznego (Human Development Index, HDI) i Zdro-wia (Environmental Health, EH) na zrównoważony rozwój w 178 krajach. Szczególny nacisk położono na (1) Poprawę dostępu do urządzeń sanitarnych (% populacji z dostępem); (2) Oczekiwany czas życia od momentu urodzenia u kobiet (w latach); (3) Poprawa dostępu do wody na terenach rolniczych (% populacji z dostępem); (4) Dostęp do elektryczności (% populacji) oraz (5) Wpływ poziomu wydatków na zdrowie na osobę (w USD) na zrównoważony rozwój i kwestie zdrowotne w perspektywie światowej. Wskaźniki (w połączeniu z tym przygoto-wanymi przez Bank Światowy) te pozwalają na porównanie różnych krajów w zakresie ich społecznych i środo-wiskowych nierówności wobec siebie i innych krajów/regionów. Przeanalizowano wszelkie występujące korelacje pomiędzy wskaźnikami. Celem było także zbadanie poziomu heterogeniczności poszczególnych krajów z per-spektywy poziomu wdrażanego rozwoju zrównoważonego z uwzględnieniem wskaźników Rozwoju Społecznego (HDI) i Zdrowia (EH).
