Opis:
ObjectivesThe aim of this study is to present the adaptation and implementation of the recommendations of the National Institute for Safety and Health at Work (Instituto Nacional de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo – INSHT) in the authors’ hospital to achieve a safer handling of hazardous drugs.Material and MethodsIn 2016, INSHT published the first document on hazardous drugs in Spain. In the authors’ center, a project was developed to implement the recommendations presented in that document in 2 phases: 1) analysis: to identify drugs and processes susceptible to not being handled as hazardous, and to search for safer alternatives and preventive measures; and 2) development: to ensure information, training, the adaptation of standardized work procedures, the minimization of risks associated with handling, safety devices, personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as health monitoring.ResultsThe authors detected 80 commercial presentations manipulated without adhering to safety conditions, mainly oral (74%) from lists 1 (7.5%), 2 (37.5%) and 3 (55%) of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. The following measures were envisaged to reduce the risk: introducing new presentations (4 lower doses, 1 liquid dose) and centralizing new preparations in the pharmacy service (11 oral formulas, 6 parenteral drugs). Management, spillage and exposure procedures were adapted. Safety measures were included in the prescription and administration applications, and there were some indications of risks in the storage. Overall, 48 referents and 690 nurses were trained. Each unit was provided with PPE and safety devices (e.g., closed systems, RX CRUSH®). The steps prior to the administration were moved to the patient’s bedside to align patient and professional safety. During the first 6 months after the implementation, 22 cases of pregnancy (64% among the nursing staff), 4 cases of lactation, and 1 case of conceiving problems were reported. In the cases of oxytocin and the repackaging of list 3, risk management was applied.ConclusionsThe multidisciplinary approach has allowed to achieve a global and safer control of hazardous drugs with a minimal impact on the center. It is important to continuously evaluate the effects of these measures, and to take into account the data of this analysis and any possible new evidence.

Opis:
The process of economic globalisation and the constant growth in competitivness creates a big challenge for corporations worldwide. This new situation recquires a quick and efficient adjustment of a company structure as well as undertaking adequate activities to prevent the outflow of clients and the loss of market shares. To meet these requirements, it becomes necessary to minimize the company operating costs. The article attempts to analyse the results of the choice of power sources within the instore transportation with regards to incurred costs. The study assumes all aspects of the matter, from small firms hardly using the power devices in question to big companies.

Development of the Polish legislation on technical supervision over certain types of machines is presented. Changes in legal regulations arising from the Polish accession to the European Union are described. The paper shows how the European Directives were implemented to the Polish legal system. It also describes the international linkages of the Office of Technical Inspection (UDT) that enabled it to become a part of the European system of machines supervision. UDT’s supervision over the process of repairs and modernization of some technical equipment, carried out by the authorized organizations, is presented.

Opis:
The combination between the design and project of container terminals and the reflect on port’s economy may be carried out through two main approaches: optimization or simulation. Although the approaches based on optimization models allow a more elegant and compact formulation of the problem, simulation models are mainly based on discrete event simulation (DES) models and help to achieve several aims: then measure this impact on port economy before and after implemented this updating overcome mathematical limitations of optimization approaches, support and make computer-generated strategies/policies more understandable, and support decision makers in daily decision processes through a “what if” approach. Several applications of DES models have been proposed and simulation results confirm that such an approach is quite effective at simulating container terminal operations. Most of the contributions in the literature develop object oriented simulation models and pursue a macroscopic approach which gathers elementary handling activities (e.g. using cranes, reach stackers, shuttles) into a few macro-activities (e.g. unloading vessels: crane-dock-reach stacker-shuttle-yard), simulate the movement of an “aggregation” of containers and therefore do not take into account the effects of container types (e.g. 20’ vs 40’, full vs empty), the incidence of different handling activities that may seem similar but show different time duration and variability/dispersion (e.g. crane unloading a container to dock or to a shuttle) and the differences within the same handling activity (e.g. stacking/loading/unloading time with respect to the tier number). Such contributions primarily focus on modeling architecture, on software implementation issues and on simulating design/real scenarios. Activity duration is often assumed to be deterministic, and those few authors that estimate specific stochastic handling equipment models do not clearly state how they were calibrated, what data were used and what the parameter Values are. Finally, no one investigates the effects of different modeling hypotheses on the simulation of container terminal performances. The focus of this paper is on the effects that different hypotheses on handling equipment models calibration may have on the simulation (discrete event) of container terminal performances. Such effects could not be negligible and should be investigated with respect to different planning horizons, such as strategic or tactical. The aim is to propose to analysts, modelers and practitioners a sort of a guideline useful to point out the strengths or weaknesses of different approaches. Drawing on the model architecture which will be affected on port economics.

Opis:
Green manufacturing cuts across every aspect of manufacturing including product development, process technologies, energy consumption and material flow. Becoming green can be viewed as a process where we start using more eco-friendly manufacturing resources that have low embedded energy and come from renewable resources. Green Manufacturing covers the whole life cycle of product, from requirements specification, design, manufacturing, and maintenance to final discarding. Green design is the most significant part of product's life cycle. Term "green" means that design should consider the product's impact on the environment and causes minimal pollution. This term includes such important approaches as design for the environment (DFE), design for disassembly (DFD), and design for recycling (DFR). Manufacturers can think about the end-of-life approaches across a wide range of products they use in production processes, for example, different machines, machine-tools, material handling equipment, cranes, etc. The analysis of current end-of-life practices identifies significant improvements to product design that reduce the impact of manufactured goods on the environment as whole. The scope of this paper is to describe possible product's end-of-life strategies on the basis of material handling equipment case study.
