Opis:
The elemental composition, mineral composition and microstructure of the HaH 286 eucrite found in Lybia in 2000 were studied by analytical electron microscopy. It was established that the mean elemental composition of HaH 286 and atomic and molar ratios: Fe/Mn = 34, Mg/Mg+Fe = 36, Na/Al = 0.066, and Ca/Al = 0.73 are typical of eucrites, and two main meteorite minerals have the mean composition: clinopyroxene En34Fs59Wo7 and plagioclase feldspar An88Ab12. Variations in the composition of pyroxenes and plagioclases are as follows: pyroxene En34-36Fs53-62Wo3-13 and plagioclase: An86-100Ab14-0. Pyroxene is represented by pigeonite and by orthopyroxene. Chromite, ilmenite and silica are minor minerals. The composition, atomic ratios and microstructure indicate that the HaH 286 meteorite is a pyroxene-plagioclase basaltic achondrite, a non-cumulate eucrite with the composition of plagioclase changing between anorthite and bytownite.

Opis:
The Pleistocene to Holocene succession in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, consists of an alternation of calcareous sandstones and reddish fine-grained deposits (palaeosols). The palaeosols can be subdivided into two main groups based on the sand-sized versus clay- to silt-sized grains: (1) the sandy hamra palaeosols, and (2) the loess and loess-derived palaeosols. The hamra palaeosols can, in turn, also be subdivided into two main types according to their colour and grain size: (1) light brown loamy to sandy hamra palaeosols, and (2) dark brown sandy clay hamra palaeosols. The hamra palaeosols are polygenetic and originated in humid environments. Their red colour results from ferric oxides coating the sand grains, but also by illuviation. The various pedogenitic units and their gradual transition to loess palaeosols are due to different phases of dust accretion. Both groups of palaeosols developed during the last glacial. They are considered to represent different climate environments: hamra palaeosols represent humid climates, whereas the loess and loess-derived palaeosols represent dry and semi-dry climates.

In order to evaluate the water quality of the Hauterivian groundwater in the zinc deposit of Chaabet el Hamra, Southern Setif region, Algeria, eighteen physico-chemical parameters such as pH, EC, TDS, Cl, SO42−, HCO3, CO32−, NO3, Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+,, and heavy metals Zn, Pb, Fe, Cr, Cd, Mn were analyzed and collected from six different wells in April 2012. The studied groundwater is dominated by HCO3, Ca2+, and Mg2+ ions. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and Algerian standards, all groundwater samples are considered safe and fit for drinking as they fall within the permissible limits. In addition, the Schoeller diagram confirms the best quality water of the Hauterivian groundwater. Gibbs diagram show that the predominant samples fall in the rock-water interaction field, suggesting that water-rock interactions are the major mechanism controlling groundwater chemistry. Assessment of groundwater samples using various water quality indices such as sodium absorption ratio (SAR), soluble sodium percentage (SSP), residual sodium carbonate (RSC), magnesium hazard (MH) and Kelly ratio (KR) showed that the groundwater in the area has an excellent quality for irrigation purpose. According to Wilcox’s diagram, all groundwater samples fall in the C2S1 category, reflecting that they are suitable for irrigation.

The animal remains discussed in this paper come from three archaeological sites in the el Hamra Christian complex excavated within the frame of the el Ga'ab Depression archaeological, ethnographical and ecological project. During two seasons in 2013/2014 and 2014/2015, a team directed by Yahia Fadl Tahir collected and examined a total of 89 mammals, 5 ostrich egg and 16 Mollusca remains. The bone assemblage was divided into seven groups representing the most and least attractive parts of the carcass in terms of nutritional value. Identified species include sheep (Ovis aries) and goat (Capra hircus), while other animal remains include ostrich egg fragments, and mollusk species: Pila ovata, Melanoides tuberculata and Lanistes carinatus. Similarities can be observed in livestock husbandry and subsistence patterns in the early Christian period in the Dongola region, where the economy depended on smalls mammals like sheep and goats to provide milk and meat.
