Opis:: Cerasus fruticosa is a rare and endangered plant species in Poland. In northern part of the country it occurs on scattered localities of relic, early Holocene (preboreal) character. Most of the species stands known from the end of 19th century have disappeared in the last decades. All data, revised in the field 40 years ago, were checked in 2000-2002. The species survived on 6 localities of 14 ones, confirmed in sixteenth. The hybridization between C. fruticosa and C. vulgaris is one of the main reasons of extinction of the first species. The floristic composition of plant communities with C. fruticosa was examined and compared with relevant literature. The regression of photophilous and thermophilous plant species, characteristic for associations with C. fruticosa and moderate invasion of synanthropic ones were observed.

Opis:: This paper presents the results of mycological observations of the Cladonio- Pinetum community in the “Bory Tucholskie” National Park in 2018. Active protection treatments have been performed to protect disappearing communities. This study was conducted using the permanent circular plot method, with each plot having an area of approximately 100 m2. Observations were also carried out using the route method outside the plots. Consequently, 71 fungal taxa were found. Among the identified species of macromycetes are Boletopsis grisea, which is on the list of protected fungi, and seven species (Boletopsis grisea, Cortinarius armeniacus, Dacrymyces capitatus, Deconica montana, Entoloma rhodocalix, Tricholoma equestre, and Tricholoma colossus) that are on the red list of macrofungi in Poland.

Opis:: The number of capercaillie in its entire range of distribution is declining. Its population n Europe (without Russia) amounts to about 580 thousand individuals including 500 thousand in Scandinavia. In Poland, 480−600 capercaillies live in 4 isolated populations. The major reason of the declining abundances of capercaillie can be seen in altered forest biotopes and their isolated distribution, widespread predation, noisy behaviour of people, disturbances in population structure, or extinction of isolated populations. Protective measures in the European countries concentrate on active protection of natural populations, capercaillie restoration and research−based education, computer simulations of the survival of this species and a long−term monitoring system. The projects for restoration of domesticated birds developed in the Czech Republic and Germany appeared unsuccessful. The mortality of released individuals was greater than 90%. Poland lacks both an integrated research programme and a long−term monitoring of capercaillie. Legal regulations in force and national directives concerning the principles of capercaillie protection are not uniformly and efficiently implemented in practice. Currently, breeding of birds for reintroduction is held in the Leżajsk and Wisła Forest Districts.

Opis:: The future capercaillie protection programmes should concentrate on the improvement of the capercaillie habitat structure, creation of ecological corridors between isolated habitats and reduction of predation pressure. International cooperation are an indispensable elements of efficient protection of capercaillie. Scientific research on capercaillie with special emphasis put on genetics, development of monitoring programmes, improvement of forest management methods are of the highest importance. It is essential to develop a comprehensive programme for reintroduction protection in accordance with IUCN directives.

Opis:: In the years 1997-1999, studies on the periods of A. lusitanicus development and on the occurrence of its developmental stages were carried out. Dates of overwintering, mating, egg-laying, hatching and population peaks of the slug were observed on six sites located in horticultural habitats, as well as in the isolation cage, where slugs were reared. It was ascertained that A. lusitanicus has a year-long life cycle. The slug overwinters in the form of eggs or juvenile stages and rarely as adult individuals. Young slugs leave their winter shelters by the end of February. The mating period starts in the second half of July and lasts from 6 to 10 weeks. Eggs are laid from mid-August till late autumn. Slug hatching occurs in spring and autumn at the time of plant sprouting.
W latach 1997-1999 w rejonie Łańcuta prowadzono badania nad cyklem życiowym ślinika luzytańskiego - Arion lusitanicus Mah. W siedliskach upraw ogrodniczych oraz w izolatorze z hodowlą ślimaka obserwowano terminy: zimowania, kopulacji, składania jaj, wylęgania ślimaków i szczytów liczebności. Ustalono, że A. lusitanicus ma roczny cykl życiowy, ale w populacji ślimaka mogą także występować pojedyncze osobniki o dwuletnim cyklu życiowym. Zimują jaja lub stadia młodociane, rzadziej osobniki dorosłe. Młode ślimaki opuszczają kryjówki zimowe pod koniec lutego. Wyląg ślimaków z jaj zimujących trwa od połowy marca do końca kwietnia. W połowie maja stadia młodociane osiągają szczyt liczebności. Okres kopulacji rozpoczyna się w drugiej połowie lipca i trwa od 1,5 do 2,5 miesiąca. Jaja składane są od połowy sierpnia do późnej jesieni. Ze złożonych jaj wyląg ślimaków rozpoczyna na początku drugiej dekady września i trwa od 50 do 80 dni. Przed zimą wylęga się do 30% jaj. Reszta jaj zimuje i wylęga się wiosną następnego roku. Liczne pojawy A. lusitanicus przypadają wiosną i wczesną jesienią, w okresach wzrostu i wschodów roślin uprawnych najbardziej wrażliwych na żerowanie ślimaka.

Opis:: The Macroregion of the Mazurian Lake District and the adjoining mesoregion of the Sępopol Plain were formed during Baltic glaciation and in the post-glacial period. The existing habitat differentiation, especially large variations in the soil cover, is divided into three distinct landscape zones. The northern areas of the district are typical heavy and very heavy soils, composed of tight clays and loams, represented by brown soils and black earths. They contribute to the ecosystem stability. Hydrogenic soils occupy only a small area. Agricultural production, when carried out correctly, should not threaten the habitat and should be in harmony with the area in question. The central, moraine area of the Mazurian Lake District, with unique natural qualities, is comprised of different soil forms and various soil covers. Brown and lessive soils are dominant among mineral soils. Deluvial soils are common, which is a warning sign on the danger of erosion. Contribution of hydrogenic soils is clearly seen. Protection of these soils, as well as re-naturalisation of the selected areas, is becoming vital. This area badly requires ecological farming. Light and very light soils, mainly rusty and podzo! soils, accompanied by large areas of sensitive for transformation hydrogenic, muck, and mucky soils occur in the southern part of the district, in the area of outwash plains. Outwash plains call for complex solutions to improve the quality of their mineral soils, as well as utilisation and protection of hydrogenic soils.

Opis:: Present status of a postglacial relict – Salix myrtilloides L. was investigated in north central Poland at 27 localities. Consequently 3 sites were confirmed, 4 were not confirmed, and the remaining 20 were considered to be extinct. In comparison to the historical distribution, ca. 74% of the sites existing 50 years ago do not exist today in the studied region. The confirmed populations were found near Oporówek (ca. 1600 stems), Rakowiec (ca. 100) and Bobrowo (15). At three sites confirmed in this study, the existence of vigorous hybrids between S. myrtilloides and S. aurita L. (S. ×onusta Besser) were observed. The most important threats to Salix myrtilloides L. populations in the studied region were assessed to be hybridization with other commonly occurring willow species, site isolation and habitat destruction. Natural habitat protection with adequate buffer zone and gene pool protection in a form of plantations was suggested as a conservation strategy. As an alternative strategy active protection ‘insitu’ was proposed based on cutting competitive common species of willows.

Opis:: Rezerwat "Jezioro Martwe" o powierzchni 17,73 ha, położony w województwie warmińsko-mazurskim, w Leśnictwie Kiwajny, utworzono w 1970 r. w celu ochrony maliny moroszki (Rubus chamaemorus L.). Na terenie rezerwatu zarejestrowanych jest obecnie 116 gatunków roślin: 7 wątrobowców, 24 mchów i 85 roślin naczyniowych. W rezerwacie występuje 7 gatunków roślin objętych ochroną gatunkową, w tym 3 - ochroną ścisłą. Tereny chronione obejmują północno-wschodnią część lokalnego obniżenia, z jej najniższymi partiami wokół zbiornika wodnego. Przy granicy rezerwatu od strony wschodniej i południowej rzeźba terenu jest pagórkowata, natomiast po stronie zachodniej i północnej - płaska. Główną zlewnią jest zlewnia Jeziora Martwego o powierzchni 2,61 ha. Sieć hydrologiczna obiektu jest w znacznym stopniu zarośnięta i zamulona. Utrzymuje się wysoki poziom wody gruntowej. Rezerwat prawie w całości znajduje się na torfowisku. Na części powierzchni obiektu dominują utwory mezo- i oligotroficzne. Na obrzeżach Jeziora występuje torfowisko wysokie, które w południowej części rezerwatu ma strukturę kępkową. W miejscach ze słabym przepływem wód gruntowych wykształciły się torfowiska przejściowe, zajmujące powierzchnię 7,93 ha (55,3%). W miejscach z silniejszym przepływem wód gruntowych występują gleby torfowo-murszowe. Miąższość złoża torfu wynosi ok. 4 m w rejonie Jeziora i stopniowo się spłyca, zanikając na obrzeżach niecki. Torfy zalegają na glinie zwałowej oglejonej w warstwach stropowych. Lasy w rezerwacie zajmują 14,34 ha, a tereny nieleśne - 0,78 ha. W lasach występuje drzewostan sosnowo-świerkowy, w siedlisku boru mieszanego bagiennego (85% powierzchni leśnej rezerwatu) i lasu mieszanego bagiennego (15%).
The "Jezioro Martwe" Reserve located in the province of Warmia and Mazury within the Forestry Administration of Kiwajny covers an area of 17.73 ha. It was created in 1970 to protect Rubus chamaemorus L. There are 116 plant species currently registered within the reserve, including 7 liverworts, 24 moss species and 85 vascular plant species. The reserve protects 7 plant species including 3 species under strict control. The protected area covers north-eastern part of a local depression and its lowest sites around the water body. Along the eastern and southern border of the reserve the terrain relief is hilly, whereas along the western and northern border it is flat. The Lake Martwe catchmant, of an area of 2.61 ha, is the main catchment area. The hydrologic network within the reserve is considerably overgrown and silted. Ground water is maintained at a high level. Almost the entire reserve is placed on peat-land. Part of the reserve is dominated by meso- and oligotrophic formations. Around the lake banks, there are raised peat bogs which, in southern part of the reserve, are characterized by a tufty structure. Transitional peat-land formed in places of low ground water flow occupies an area of 7.93 ha (55.3%), while peat-muck soils occur in places with higher ground water flow. The thickness of peat deposit is approx. 4 m in the lake region and becomes gradually thinner outside to disappear at the borders of the depression. The peat is lined by boulder clay gleyed in the roof rock. The reserve forests cover 14.34 ha, while the non-forest areas cover 0.78 ha. Lake Martwe, included in the reserve, covers an area of 2.61 ha. The tree stand is built of pine-spruce trees growing in a habitat of mixed palustrine coniferous forest (85% of the forest area of the reserve) and mixed palustrine forest (15%).
