Opis:
Several studies claim that the physical effort of students during Physical Education classes (PE) is low. There is a lack of desire to change or improve physical fitness levels. Purpose: In this study, we intend to analyse the average values of heart rate (HR) during different phases of the PE class, trying to identify possible differences between collective and individual sports (basketball and apparatus gymnastics). The sample consisted of a group of 15 students, 5 female and 10 male (15.2± 12:56 years) and the study was conducted over 10 sessions (5 of each type), registering values of HR (bpm) using HR monitors (Polar Electronic, FT1 model). Results: After exploratory data analysis there were significant differences in the transition phase (basketball: 146 ± 27.2 bpm, p = 0.001; apparatus gymnastics: 138.4 ± 25.8 bpm, p = 0.001) and the drilling stage (basketball: 151.2 ± 26.1 bpm, p = 0.000; gymnastics apparatus: 143.0 ± 27.0 bpm, p = 0.000). In the process of organizing, the differences were not significant (basketball: 136.8 ± 26.2 bpm, p = 0526; apparatus gymnastics: 132.3 ± 23.9 bpm, p = 0526). Conclusions: Having these results, we believe that PE teachers should plan sessions that provide increased uptime and higher levels of intensity for students, especially in periods of drilling, regardless of the class.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare and analyse of relationships between stability indices registered in two positions: standing and handstand in athletes practicing gymnastics at various levels of advancement. Methods: The study included 46 athletes practicing gymnastics. The research tool was posturograph CQ-Stab 2P. Results: In both standing position and handstand in the seniors there were statistically significantly lower values of such indicators as: sway area delimited by the center of pressure ( p = 0.004, p = 0.014), mean amplitude of COP ( p = 0.021, p = 0.017), mean displacement of the center of feet/hands pressure in medio-lateral direction ( p = 0.011, p = 0.003) and maximal displacement of the center of feet/hands pressure in mediolateral direction ( p = 0.036, p = 0.036). In the standing position, seniors also had statistically significantly lower values of the statokinesiogram path length, both total ( p = 0.000) as well as in anteroposterior ( p = 0.001) and mediolateral ( p = 0.002) directions. In the seniors group there were statistically significant correlations between variables obtained in standing position and handstand. Conclusions: The level of sport advancement significantly differentiates the stability of a body in standing position and handstand. The seniors practicing gymnastics, compared to juniors, are characterized by a better ability to control the position of the body in both positions. The lack of relationships between stability indices registered in standing and handstand in juniors suggests that the analysis of the values of stability indices obtained in a standing position does not provide the possibility of predicting the ability to maintain balance in the handstand during the recruitment of candidates for gymnastics.

Opis:
Background. The following study attempts to compare the motor skills of younger schoolaged female children (7-9 and 9-11) who attended rhythmic gymnastics classes and those who participated in modern dance classes. Material and methods. The study involved 30 girls aged 7-9 and 35 aged 9-11 who attended rhythmic gymnastics, as well as 36 female children aged 7-9 and 40 aged 9-11 doing modern dance. Sixteen tests of motor skills were conducted to assess the coordination of the whole body, lower-limb explosive strength, lower-limb flexibility, repetitive bodily movement and its frequency. The multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was applied for determining quantitive differences between the two groups of girls. Results. The results of the research showed a significant difference in most motor variables at the level of statistical significance of P=0.05 between the two categories of examinees, especially in the older age group (9-11), showcasing better results in the girls engaged in rhythmic gymnastics. Conclusions. The findings may help to understand the specific requirements concerning girls’ competing in rhythmic gymnastics, as well as their everyday training process, which is considerably more demanding than that of modern dance performers, which may however ultimately result in higher-quality motor skills, especially of coordination, static balance and flexibility.
Wprowadzenie. Poniższe badanie porównuje umiejętności motorycznych młodszych dziewcząt w wieku szkolnym (7-9 i 9-11 lat), które uczęszczały na zajęcia z gimnastyki artystycznej i tańca nowoczesnego. Materiał i metody.

Opis:
The relevance of the study is due to the need to improve the quality of training of future physical education (PE) specialists. Knowledge of the legacy of outstanding teachers is the basis for the formation of professional competencies of PE specialists. The experience of F. Nachtegall, the Scandinavian educator of New Times, the main stages of his activity on the introduction of PE in education, their content and results became an impulse to recognize the importance of physical and moral health of young people as the main object of attention of authorities, benefactors and society during the period under study. The educational reforms initiated by him ensured the availability of PE to all young people, promoted the education of healthy, industrious, useful citizens and led to the institutionalisation of PE. Founding Europe's first gymnastics club and a private gymnastics school for different classes, organising and running a school for training civic gymnastics teachers, and founding a gymnastics college - these are just a small part of Nachtegall's multifaceted activities. Nachtegall's practical experience had an enormous influence on the creation of the organisational, programme, control and methodological foundations for the formation of didactic knowledge on the teaching process of PE.

Opis:
Modern physical culture was one of the many important processes that have taken over the political, social, and cultural life in Germany in the second half of the 19th century. At the turn of the 19th century in Germany, two big middle-class organizations have been formed to deal with physical activity affairs: the German Gymnastics Association (Deutsche Turnerschaft; the Turnverein) and dynamically-growing English sports. The paper demonstrates the relations between the Turnverein movement and the world of sport in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century. The German Gymnastics Association, an organization founded in the 60s of the 19th century, had long-time achievements initiated by the work of Friedrich Ludwig Jahn. Simultaneously, the world of sport in Germany was concentrated on the newly-founded in 1904 German Olympics Committee – primary organization bringing together several various federations of sport disciplines. It was an organization primarily brought into existence to coordinate the debut appearance of the German Empire in the restored by P. Coubertain Olympic Games.

Purpose: The main aim of this study was to verify the usefulness of selected simple methods of recording and fast biomechanical analysis performed by judges of artistic gymnastics in assessing a gymnast’s movement technique. Material and methods: The study participants comprised six artistic gymnastics judges, who assessed back handsprings using two methods: a real-time observation method and a frame-by-frame video analysis method. They also determined flexion angles of knee and hip joints using the computer program. Results: In the case of the real-time observation method, the judges gave a total of 5.8 error points with an arithmetic mean of 0.16 points for the flexion of the knee joints. In the high-speed video analysis method, the total amounted to 8.6 error points and the mean value amounted to 0.24 error points. For the excessive flexion of hip joints, the sum of the error values was 2.2 error points and the arithmetic mean was 0.06 error points during real-time observation. The sum obtained using frame-by-frame analysis method equaled 10.8 and the mean equaled 0.30 error points. Conclusions: Error values obtained through the frame-by-frame video analysis of movement technique were higher than those obtained through the real-time observation method. The judges were able to indicate the number of the frame in which the maximal joint flexion occurred with good accuracy. Using the real-time observation method as well as the high-speed video analysis performed without determining the exact angle for assessing movement technique were found to be insufficient tools for improving the quality of judging.

Objectives This study has aimed at investigating the impact of the Special Aviation Gymnastics Instruments (SAGI) training scheme on the blood serum cortisol, testosterone, insulin, and plasma adrenaline, noradrenaline, and dopamine in comparison with a control group. Material and Methods Fifty-five cadets, aged 20 years old, participated in the study. Cadets were divided into 2 groups: A (N = 41) – the SAGI-trained, and B (N = 14) – the control group. In both groups, blood was the examined material, sampled twice: before the training session (BT) and after the training session (AT), at the beginning (training session I), during (training session II), and after completion of the SAGI training session (training session III). Commercially available kits were used for assaying serum cortisol, testosterone, and insulin as well as plasma adrenaline, noradrenaline, and dopamine. Cadets’ physical fitness was assessed by means of Aero-Synthetic Efficiency Tests. Results In group A, a significant decrease in serum cortisol (training session III) and insulin in three training sessions AT in comparison with the values BT was seen. A statistically significant increase in testosterone and catecholamines was noted in all 3 training sessions AT in comparison with the values BT. In group B, a statistically significant increase in cortisol (training session II), testosterone, and catecholamines was observed in all 3 training sessions AT vs. the values in training session BT. In group B, serum levels of all assayed hormones were higher in training session III than those in group A. Conclusions In the examined group, the SAGI training produced fewer hormonal changes dependent on the intensity and exercise type and physical efficiency improvement than in the control group. Opis:
Background: The inclusion of gymnastic-based movements in workout routines in many exercise training programs, generally called mixed modality training (MMT), and even in many competitions, is increasingly common. In contrast to artistic gymnastic competitions, MMT workouts aim to complete as many movements as quickly as possible, which tends to deform the movement pattern proposed by artistic gymnastics. Execution of the MMT workouts with more of the gymnastics-based style (i.e., based on the gymnastics movement pattern) could improve performance in exercises with a high-level complexity, such as the “ring muscle up” (RMU). Thus, this study aimed to analyze the kinematic aspects of RMU, performed by a former gymnast both with and without the gymnastics based style. Methods: A former gymnast with a successful transition to MMT, carried out RMU using two movement patterns: 1) close to the classical artistic gymnastics pattern (“Front uprise”), and 2) close to that used by many athletes not from gymnastics. The athlete performed RMU, three times with each proposed movement pattern. Images were captured using a high-speed digital camera. Hip and ankle displacement, velocity and acceleration were recorded and analyzed. Results: The execution of RMU was faster and the hip vertical displacement was greater when RMU was carried out with a gymnastics-based style, while ankle displacement path, peak velocity and acceleration were lower. Conclusion: The use of a gymnastics-based style to carry out RMU seems to be advantageous from the biomechanical point of view, favoring the performance of RMU.

Opis:
In many sports disciplines, competitors perform activities that are not directly evaluated by referees, and whose time, length, or height are not directly measured, but which determine good sports results. In the case of trampolining, such activities involve the jumps that precede the program during competitions. Those preparatory jumps help the competitor perfom jumps for which he can receive the best notes. By undertaking research on the importance of preparatory activities in trampoline jumps, the authors decided to discover the interdependence between the number of preparatory jumps and the quality of the performance. The aim of the article was to experimentally indicate the optimal number of performed jumps before starting the program. The authors used an experiment involving 4 elite competitors in trampolining: two juniors had the first sports class and two had the master class. Having done 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16 preparatory jumps, the competitors performed a program consisting of 5 elements. Two qualified referees, using a measuring device, evaluated the performed program. It turned out that in 3 cases the best jumps were performed after 8 preparatory jumps, and in 10 cases, after one jump. Fewer than 8 and more than 10 jumps lead to worsening the quality of performance. This conclusion is a valuable practical tip for coaches.

Park Jordana w Krakowie istnieje do dnia dzisiejszego, współcześnie spełnia jednak inną rolę- popularnego miejsca rekreacji i wypoczynku w centrum miasta. Natomiast istniejące w wielu miastach „ogródki jordanowskie” to miejsca zabawy dla najmłodszych.
Henryk Jordan – who lived in Cracow at the turn of 19th and 20th century – was a well-known and esteemed medical doctor, social and political activist as well as an art patron and publicist. His most prominent heritage is a city park named after him. At the time it was a location where pioneering work promoting physical culture among youngsters took place. First trainings started in 1889 and instantly became popular. Trainings were carefully organized and combined physical training with a promotion of a patriotism. At the beginning of 1890’s Jordan introduced football which became very popular amongst male teenagers. Football became a part of trainings and competitions, and after a while organized football teams started to play in the park. This was a starting point of the oldest still existing Polish football clubs: Cracovia and Wisła. Jordan’s ideas inspired others, and soon many other cities in Poland. Jordan’s park exists until today, however, it plays a role of a popularizing recreational spot in the city centre. In other cities, so-called “Jordan’s gardens” became playgrounds for children.

Objectives Assessment of the effect of training on Special Aerial Gymnastics Instruments (SAGI) on the urine β-2- microglobulin (β-2M), albumin (ALB), total protein (TP), N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase EC.3.2.1.30 (NAG), expressed as creatinine (Cr) and on the physical fitness of the examined cadets in comparison with the control group. Material and Methods The study involved 55 cadets aged 20, divided into group A (N = 41) trained on SAGI, and group B (N = 14) – a control group. The urine was collected twice: before the training (BT) and after the training (AT) at the start (training I), during (training II), and after completion of the training program (training III). Urine proteins were assayed with commercially available kits. Results In group A, results obtained in trainings I, II and III showed a statistically significant increase in β-2M/Cr, NAG/Cr, TP/Cr, ALB/Cr indices in AT compared with the baseline BT values. Similarly in group B, a statistically significant increase in β-2M/Cr, NAG/Cr (trainings I, II), TP/Cr, AT compared with the baseline BT values in trainings I, II, and III was noted. Comparison of both groups showed a higher value of the post-exercise proteinuria in group B than in group A. In group A, a significant correlation between TP/Cr vs. ALB/Cr, NAG/Cr vs. TP/Cr, β-2M/Cr vs. TP/Cr, i.e., r = 0.62 at p < 0.001; r = 0.33 at p = 0.03; r = 0.60 at p < 0.001, and r = 0.52 at p < 0.001, respectively, was observed in group A, training III, AT. Conclusions Assayed urine proteins depend on the intensity of physical exercise, the type of exercise, and the level of physical fitness.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the study was to determine whether 10- to 13-year-old, national-level, female acrobatic gymnasts present a different quiet standing postural control (with and without visual cues) than untrained female peers. Methods: The mean velocity of the center of pressure (in anterior-posterior and medial-lateral directions) was computed from 60-s long quiet-standing trials on a stationary force plate in fifteen 10- to 13-year-old female acrobatic gymnasts and thirteen sex- and age-matched non-athletes. A two-way repeated measures ANOVA (acrobatic gymnasts vs. non-athletes and eyes open vs. eyes closed) was used for the anterior-posterior and mediallateral COP mean velocity. The relation between subjects’ body mass and COP mean velocity was tested with the used Spearman’s Rank Correlation Coefficient. Results: Postural sway (represented by COP mean velocity) was not significantly different between the acrobatic gymnasts and the non-athletes ( p > 0.05), except for the faster medial-lateral sway in eyes-open conditions in the acrobatic gymnasts ( p < 0.05). The gymnasts’ body mass negatively correlated with their anterior-posterior sway velocity in both visual conditions (eyes open: r = –0.7; eyes closed: r = –0.6) and with medial-lateral sway velocity during eyes-closed trials (r = –0.5; p < 0.05). Conclusions: Results of the study indicate that in quiet standing postural control 10- to 13-year-old acrobatic gymnasts did not make use of their trained abilities. Heavier gymnasts might have been more stable than lighter ones during quiet standing.

Opis:
Visual information is thought to be a dominant information source when performing whole-body movements in gymnastics. Visual information can furthermore facilitate performance when being engaged in situations of interpersonal coordination that may occur in sports such as synchronized trampolining. The question arises, which body-related visual cues are most important in the emergence of behavioral synchronization between two gymnasts in synchronized trampolining? To address this question, advanced gymnasts were asked to synchronize their performance to video-sequences of a model gymnast, while body-related visual cues of the model gymnast were systematically manipulated. Results revealed, first that biological motion cues are more important than nonbiological motion cues, and second that the perceived motion of the arms seems to drive synchronicity in synchronized trampolining. It is stated, that biological visual information of the arms is a dominant visual information source when performing leaps in synchronized trampolining.

Opis:
This study aimed to determine the characteristic features of handstand posture control associated with a high level of ability among male gymnasts. Methods: 8 acrobatic gymnasts (4 more and 4 less experienced) participated in the study. They performed a 10-second handstand five times with each hand positioned on one AccuSway (AMTI) force platform and the other hand on the second. Body sway changes were recorded in time series: centre of pressure (COP) and components of the ground reaction force (GRF) (vertical, medial-lateral and anterior-posterior). The COP amplitude and average of GRF components, the index of frequency (by Fast Fourier Transform) for the right and left hand were calculated. Results: More experienced gymnasts performing a handstand concentrate mainly on minimizing anterior-posterior body sway with minimum medial-lateral body sway. Less experienced gymnasts’ pressure exerted on a surface by the hands is irregular in a medial-lateral direction. More experienced gymnasts control body position in the handstand and show less variation of body sway compared to less experienced gymnasts. More experienced gymnasts revealed lower frequency of body sway in the handstand compared to less experienced gymnasts. Conclusion: The stabilometric profile of more experienced gymnasts means the better posture control in handstand. The minimizing of body sway is compensated by exerting more force on a floor surface and the less experienced athletes cannot do that even after several years of training. The gymnasts of both groups, during standing on their hands, put more load on the right hand.
